"Thanks for the money. I'll need it for my other projects." - Tim "3.3" Schafer (Not an actual quote he made, ment to satrical)

Another title that's a stain on the early access program. You'd think a developer like DoubleFine couldn't mess up a PC game like this. Just take everything from Theme Hospital, mix abit of Dwarf Fortress in there add abit of originality and hey presto, you have a game. Not really though, as you've come across the bad reviews/recommendations for this game and there's alot of them.

There's nothing good in this game, it's bare-bones as it comes. Unless a very, very talented modding crew works relentlessly on this game it's never going to be worth a purchase.

Oh and one more thing; Recommending your own game through the Curator system isn't ethical. Stop that.

Edit - 21/07/2015
Wow, didn't realise that this 'review' would get so popular.
I'd just like to thank everyone who took the time to click on that good ol' green thumb and bring to light the trash that is early access and greenlight games. Thanks to Steams new refund option, broken, half made games like this will hopefully never come to be.

I own some bad games on Steam and this is one of them. Other reviews discuss general qualities of this game and I want to discuss a particular aspect. What makes this title the most odious and worthy of comment for me is the apparent trickery that caused me to purchase. I purchased this in a sale on 27 June 2014. On 17 August 2014 they announced they were abandoning it. It seems to me they put it on sale with the full knowledge they were not bothering to finishing the product, in order to suck up any last purchases. I think this was a very naughty thing for Doublefine Productions to do and I will not be purchasing any of their products in future. On yes, naturally, I am ineligible for the new Steam refund service. Delightful! (Polite Version)

I've finally decided to give the "release" version a full go. After completing most of the goals in the game I've come to a conclusion:

DF-9 does not hold up to its promise. Not by a long shot.

Aside from the fact that fact that Double Fine abandoned (I do actually understand their situation) the game long before their planned goals had been implemented, the unfortunate truth is that what we do have isn't finished either.

Most prominently the power system. Without an actual power meter (like we have for O2) your base will just suddenly lose power if you've built too much. You have no useful way of knowing when to build another reactor. The devs expect you to hover your mouse over each and every room and sum up the power consumption in your head each time you want to take inventory.

Next up is the "story" of the game. One of the last versions must have shoehorned this in because I don't remember it from Alpha5. Basically at some point the game will spontaneously throw multiple raider ships and raider astronauts at you in bulk. I've you've managed to build your base accordingly by then: congratulations for figuring out the simple and boring strategy needed. If you haven't? Well, you can start all over again.

Then as you continue to play and expand your base to meet the other goals you'll notice how the game becomes increasingly glitchy.

And speaking of goals: The "build all the things" goal isn't even possible. I tried. I built everything there is and allegedly I'm still missing something.

Do NOT buy!

It is an unfinished abandoned game.

pros
- cool idea

cons
- bad AI
- extremely bad AI
-- your people outside the station will occasionally find their airlocked blocked by a ♥♥♥♥♥♥, who will make his situps there, regardless of suffocating comrades
-- your security will ignore raiders or enemy autocannons until they are shot dead
- bad scripting
-- starting point descriptions especially abour dangers are irrelevant
- there are no real goals/economy/anything

Do NOT buy this "game"!
