Cosa dicono gli sviluppatori:

“Spacebase DF-9 is a simulation game in ongoing development at Double Fine Productions. The in-progress Alpha version is available right now for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Check out SpacebaseDF9.com for updates, join the community, and give feedback as the game progresses! We'll be releasing major updates roughly once a month, and hotfixes in between as needed. With each major update we'll post a video here showing what's been added and improved in the new build.

The current Alpha build is very much a sandbox - there is no explicit goal or victory condition; rather there is the implicit goal of getting a large, thriving base up and running. For tips on ways to do this, check out the Guides section in our Community Hub for info from both fans and developers.

Being an Early Access Alpha, there are bugs in the game and features we haven't been able to fully develop yet. See below for our lists of Planned Features and Known Issues. Here at Double Fine we take transparency and the goodwill of our fans very seriously, so please let us know what you think needs our attention... and thank you for your interest and support!”

Informazioni sul gioco

In Spacebase DF-9, you'll build a home among the stars for a motley population of humans and aliens as they go about their daily lives. Mine asteroids, discover derelicts, and deal with the tribulations of galactic resettlement in Earth's distant future. Meteor impacts! Explosive decompression! Unbearable loneliness!

Key Features:

  • Resource management
Carefully plan and build your base using raw matter, mine more from asteroids.
  • Detailed simulation of oxygen and vacuum
Keep citizens comfy and safe from asphyxiation.
  • Social simulation
Citizens mingle, forming friendships and enmities that affect morale and base culture.
  • Duty assignment
Assign citizens to duties they're well suited for, and watch base efficiency and happiness increase as these skills develop.
  • Base defense
Build turrets and use Security personnel to fend off raiders, killbots, and other hostiles.
  • Technology research
Discover new advancements in Research Labs that allow you to build new things, upgrade the gear your citizens use, and keep the population safe from space viruses.

Planned Features:

The Alpha version here on Early Access is constantly being improved! Here are some of the big ticket items in our near-term development plan:
  • Carryable objects: Citizens pick up and interact with a wide range of smaller objects: food, tools, trinkets, fashion accessories. Citizens collect and trade some of these based on personal tastes.
  • Power system: Build Fusion Reactors to provide power to rooms. Without power, lights go out and machines stop working.
  • Base history screen: See a chronicle of your base you can share with other players. Capture and annotate screenshots to document important or zany events.

Known Issues:

Pardon our space-dust! Here's a list of "known issues" - things we know are broken - in the current version of the game. We also have an internal bug tracker we use to track smaller issues in greater detail, and we'd like to make it publicly readable eventually. For now, we'll use this section to track the things we want you to know have our attention and are thinking about.
  • When post effects are disabled, emergency lighting makes some rooms pitch black.

Great UI, some good ideas, but current feature set is exremely small, leading to a shallow game where you'll have seen everything it has to offer within an hour. It's also riddled with severe, game-breaking bugs; your station's success usually has more to do with whether or not the game decides to malfunction, and less with the environmental hazards.

Down the road I could see this evolving into something excellent, but in it's current state it's falling short of playable. I would only reccomend purchasing at this stage as a means of supporting the project, don't expect a fully playable game at this point.

I really try to like this game, I really do. But between the horrible AI, UI, and overall game meta, not to mention lackluster developer support over the course of the last year I cannot with good conscience recommend this to anybody. Wait at least until beta to buy this, and only if they significantly alter the meta-game.

As it stands the AI are imbecilic, the gameplay progression borders on unfair or unplayable even at low difficulty, and the game has a daisy chain of progressive bugs and glitches that functionally cripple your base the longer you play. Invisible raiders? Yes. Unhealable citizens? Got that too. Ludicrous pathing? Sure! Lack of transparency in regards to what you're placing into the game? Oh hell yes, have to rely on an oft-incomplete wiki full of speculations.

You would be better off looking to ancient games like Space Colony, or Startopia for a game of this genre that works. (More in the case of Startopia) This is what bugs me the most, since I normally would expect good things from a Double Fine game, if only because I enjoyed Brutal Legend. But it is obvious to me that Double Fine isn't investing many resources in this game, and probably have no intention of doing so either.

My prediction? A halt in development by Fall of 2014 when the dev team gets recalled to work on what is seen as more 'profitable' ventures. But maybe I'm just pessimistic because I've played games like this in the past with far higher levels of development from studios most people have never even heard of.

Spacebase DF-9 - 24.99
Startopia - 6.99 (Space Base DF-9 could learn something about meta from this)
Space Colony - Available on GOG for 9.99 (Again, something Spacebase DF-9 could learn about creating at least tolerably realistic social interactions in somewhat of a fun fashion.)

At it's current state, I would not recommend this game, but what it has now is very promising and I'll probably sink more and more hours as new updates come out. It's main problem is questionablly dumb AI, which will probablly fixed in the future.

I am all for base-building management games, but when they are not done well its very hard to enjoy yourself. In the current state (patch 5). Things are still broken that should have been fixed a long while ago, like your builders deciding they don't need to go back for more oxygen and dying....REPEATEDLY. As for playing the game as it is (ignoring bugs), it probably wont keep you distracted for long, as there is not much to do, I will list what you will do atm.

start out
1- build 2 connected boxes for airlock and air filter room, then a food station

2- proceed to add on more rooms and collect more people when they show up

3- a.-occasionally have events like derelict "ships" to board (with usually nothing on it except for more people or something hostile)
b.- pirates (which most you can just send away >.>)
c.- asteroid shower (just hope a hole isn't made)
or even
d.- a alien parasite that kills one of the crew and attacks everyone else (once you have a few people they tend to just beat the hell out of it).

aaaand thats pretty much it.

I Try to come back and play (doesn't take long at all to basically hit the end of the alpha, maybe an hour...maybe) after updates, but nothing really changes besides a new job or new building item (and bugs fixed later to fix the new things too). I don't want to but compared to Prison Architect, this game is moving at snails pace, if the snail was smashed with a hammer over and over and then flicked forward a little, then repeat.

ps- don't believe those big action fight from the video, it doesn't happen

FYI
Alpha 1 (launch)- Oct. 15 2013
Alpha 2- Nov. 14 2013
Alpha 3- Dec. 18 2013
Alpha 4- Feb. 13 2014
and FINALLY a
Alpha 5- May 28th 2014
and the next one will probably be September or October.

I hope this game gets better and maybe I will get to update a review on the game as it is later, but for now just save your money, I wish I did.
