Patch Delay

Hey ArkCoNauts!

We wanted to let everyone know that we are going to have to push the patch back by one week. Paul has been waiting on some assistance from Valve regarding the features he's working on, and that has delayed him by fair bit. We want to be sure to get everything done, and that we roll out working Steam integration features as planned. We'll keep you guys posted!

Hey ArkCoNauts!

Things are moving right along with the next patch, and we're working like crazy on more new content and features. Our last patch brought in everyone's favorite derpy shark with people teeth, Fineous. While we saw a few hiccups with dialog, we were able to stomp out most of those issues, and continue to iron out the NPC system. This has set the stage for all of Fineous' crazy friends to make their appearances

To get into a little more detail about what to expect, let's talk about the rest of our cast of NPC's. Unlike Fineous, they will be scattered around for you to run into, rather than waiting around your base. Once you meet them, and help them out, you will be able to gain the anchor for them as well, and collect them all for your home base. Who wouldn't want to live with Business Ape?! Ok, so maybe he gets his own room. Joking aside though, we feel that we have a good solution for allowing players to decide when and where the NPC's spawn. Additionally, collecting NPC's will start to grant bonuses to you for having them around. These guys will definitely keep you all busy as you gather them up and take them home.

While the NPC's are nearing completion, we're also working on another long awaited feature: The wormholes! When complete, you will be able to hop to entirely different maps and explore new worlds in addition to your main world. These alternate worlds will present you with fresh sources of additional materials, and plenty of new things to discover. These will be stable wormholes, unlike our first iteration, and you will be able to visit them over and over! While the first implementation you'll see will be kept somewhat simple, more types of alternate world will be added over time, we have more than plenty of ideas for things we can have lurking about behind the portals.

If that doesn't have you excited, we are also preparing to unleash Steam Inventory integration. What does this mean? Tradable armors, weapons, and other redeemable goodies will now be available, letting us give you all sorts of new shinies which you can redeem by codes! I don't know about you guys, but this is one of the moments I've been waiting for above all else. There's nothing more fun than being able to shower the community with awesome gear to use in game, and I am very much looking forward to putting this awesomeness to work!

On the community side, I do want to put a reminder out there that Jake is now doing weekly livestreams to keep everyone even more up to date on the latest happenings, and what we're working on. We stream every Monday night, starting at 8PM Eastern. (Except this week, due to the holiday we will be streaming Tuesday the 26th at 8PM Eastern instead) In addition to catching up on the game, I'm usually there with a few spare copies in hand to give away, so if you don't have a copy yet be sure to come hang out! Suit up as an operative of the Ark Corporation, sent to the farthest reaches of the universe in search of habitable planets to terraform. With no choice but to descend to the surface and figure out how to survive long enough to complete your mission, you step into the escape pod.

Along the way you’ll gather resources to craft armor, weapons, facilities, and vehicles to help you explore the world and conquer its aggressive inhabitants. Your base of operations will evolve from a few basic facilities exposed to the elements into a hardened fortress full of advanced technologies that let you accomplish amazing improvements to your equipment and alter the environment itself.

Be careful, though; almost everything down there wants to kill you, including fierce laser space sharks, artillery-toting polar bears, wickedly quick jetpack penguins, and even crazier horrors. Out on the Edge of Space, you must adapt or you die. Good luck, ArkCo Operative!

На протяжении 2х лет раннего доступа происходили в основном косметические изменения графики и интерфейса. Однако, визуальная часть так и осталась спорной как раньше. Сейчас она просто немного другая.

Крафт, как основопологающая фишка, абсолютно не интересен и не приносит удовольствия.
Все предметы резделены на несколько типов и по сути мы объединяем эти типы, а не конкретные объекты.
К примеру из металла и грязи можно создать как стену для бункера, так и лазерную винтовку.

Присутсвует довольно классная музыка и некая своя атмосфера, но этого не хватает для интересного времяпрепровождения. Чувствуется хороший фундамент, но руки так и чешутся переделать бОльшую половину игры.

I've bought this game when it was v0.16 or something. At time i write it, game is at v0.4271 - and i dont regret it.
Since game's world is divided into biomes, which are vertically-placed and you always start in 1st - almost no matter how game changes and what's added - you will see same stuff until you get lower in the world and further in game.

Personally, if you're wondering whenever it's worth getting or not and dont trust in reviews much - just download it from torrent and try for yourself.
Take into account - THIS IS early access game - there are bugs, issues. No need to cry "game is bad, %feature_name% not working, devs sucks" on review page - reporting is enough.

Pros:
- interactions with developers - they do respond within a day (depending on timeline of yours) and they're friendly. Seriously, sometimes they even run server to play with them and they do take in account suggestions of players about what to implement;
- helpful people;
- Quite big sandbox-generated world - can travel to new places, see alot monsters and kill them. 3 biomes with different flora, fauna - so you will not see all the same textures for whole game.
- build your base, place facilities and decorate at your taste (alot stuff will be coming, thought even now you can spend few hours decorating);
- (personal opinion, based on seeing progress) game is moving into right direction, thought not as fast as one would wish for;
- rpg-oriented - alot stuff to research, player-style-oriented armor sets and kits;
- quite nice amount of armors (3 trees: fighter, explorer, builder - all with unique and useful bonuses), weapons (phase - unlimited ammo and weak strikes, projectiles - limited powerful crafted ammo, energy - not present yet) and facilities to place;
- there is a tutorial. People, who read it at least know very basics;
- SCI-FI setting;
- some humorous moments;
- Pretty nice graphics;

Cons:
-small team of developers so game will not be finished soon (guess 1 year at least);
- bugs - early access, so they are expected and it's up for YOU!!!!!! to report them and make game better;
- not much lore present atm (thought likely more than in casual AAA shooter), as well as some explanations for game's features - but not a problem if you're experienced in game and know english. And can open controls;
- only English as supported language atm;
- Current map prototype makes you paint it yourself, which is both funny and masochistic in some term - so you might consider paper and pen or explore in horisontal lines;
- no way to pause game (thought placing command node and teleporting to command center placed in your haven saves the day);
- a bit hard to set multiplayer server - there is a complete How-To guide on forum thought;

neutral:
- farming - as in any rpg, thought droprates are adjusted (increased mostly) each patch, getting most of resources isnt hard during traveling - just keep your eyes open;
- 2d game - yep, no realistic 3D graphics (like in 60-usd games);
- not newbie-friendly in some terms, since not everything is explained in game, or not fully. If you run into trouble - i'm currently making game's guide:

state of game:
- 3/5 biomes present and filled (with mobs, plants, events and stuff). Rest 2 will come somewhere nearby release from early access;
- some animal mounts and vehicles;
- multiplayer (thought require to have someone hosting server);
- guns, armors, upgrades, facilities and stuff in quite nice amounts;
- 1 NPC. More coming following update;
- major updates see the light each 20-30 days, critical hotfixes mostly within 2-3 days. Characters/World wipes now aren`t too frequent (1 per 3+ month or something). Actually, it was pretty long time since last character wipe;
- achievements (3) - more will come at game's release (not sure if those 3 are obtainable atm);

I find game quite interesting and entertaining even in current state, thought (based on interactions with devs) even more funny things will be seen in future

The Game runs perfect alot of content in this game and to rop it off yjis game has working servers that you can help your friends build craft and just explore, I realy recomend you try it before you the day ends especialy If your a Terraria gamer at heart.

This game keeps getting better and better with every patch. The devs really listen to the fan base and it shows in the quality and quantity of their updates. I'm eagerly anticipating the official release!

I've had alot of fun with this game for the small amount of time I've played it so far. Haven't tried multiplayer yet. Looking forward to Full Release.

Игра на столько отстойная что писать о + и - нет смысла. Покупайте Starbound . Это хлам гнилой. 3рая купил и вы её зря купите.

...шел второй год беты...

Обожал Террарию и конечно же повелся на EoS. Желею...

Игра, которая была релизнута в конце июня 2013 года, до сих пор находится в каком-то подвешенном состоянии. Выходят патчи/фиксы, но конца и края им нет. Что-то меняется в механике после очередного "большого" аддона и все можно начинать заного. Уже даже и не уверен что решусь в нее играть после окончательного релиза, просто надоело одно и то же.

Да, у нее есть своя атмосфера, отличное звуковое и музыкальное оформление (для подобного рода игр). Сносная графическая составляющая (опять таки для подобных игрушек). Но на этом все плюсы и заканчиваются. Шаблон на шаблоне и шаблоном погоняет. Про баги/глюки и писать не буду, игра же вроде как в состоянии тестирования.

В то время, когда у EoS есть такой сильный конкурент как Starbound - выбор очевиден. Отзывы в массей своей разделились почти поровну За/Против, а для игры в этой стадии разработки (да да, именно разработки) это "смертельно" опасно, она может оказаться просто невостребованной.

Все же надеюсь, что разработчики закончат начатое в ближайшее время, иначе они потеряют и тех кто еще ждет полноценного релиза.

Хоть и игра в Бете,но обновления с каждым разом радую.В игре сделали более легкую прокачку и пока что добавили немного мобов.Так же заметил,что в игре появилось четыре данжа и один к новому году! Бывают и своего рода фризы,но разработчики стремятся сделать игру лучше,и это заметно с каждой обновой.

Almost missed this title due to mixed reviews. Glad I didn't! Please do not let mixed reviews scare you off like almost happened to me. I will tell you why. Most negatives were probably from the early stages of this game and from people who expected a full game during early access.

Pro's:
-Excellent grahics for the genre.
-Good sound effects.
-Many innovations, like vertical progression and unlocking new craftables with Science points.
(at first I hated the science points thing but grew to love it once I understood how it worked)
-Darn good tutorial for an Early Access game.
-Very few bugs so far.
-Very involved and helpful devs and community.

Con's:
-Even though it has a good tutorial I found it still hard to know what to do next after start and what path to take to progress into biomes below after start.

So there you have it, I think the label 'mixed reviews' is very misplaced. I can't stress enough that this is a solid and good game with friendly devs.

10/10 Would commit suicide to bring my stuff home again.

EoS is still a buggy and slow paced game. No real wiki to find out your information from, you gotta learn it all by yourself. It'll take you a couple of hours before you really get started on how to play the game. Some of you may be bored after the first couple of hours, because you simply have no idea what you are doing.

BUT for those of you who can get past the first 5-8 hours of playing this game, it may become interesting to explore, to dig to find new stuff, head towards dungeons. With that said, how well you fare in this game is how much patience you really have. You have to read stuff in the codex to learn how things works, you may never get past some parts without help from the community. Its grind intensive, one thing that I don't really like. You have to kill, and kill, and kill, like in an MMORPG, just keep killing, and leveling, want to build more stuff? Kill more, get more science points, convert it to research data.

Eventually it gets so absurd that you need so much research datas and at the same time, you reach a point where you get alot of science points that you either have to find a couple of upgrade platforms and extend your Science maximum capacity OR you just kill and stop, convert it to datas, every few minutes.

If you want to go by the first method to make things a little easier, dig more! The upgrade platforms which are so beneficial and essential but of course, it is so god damn rare. For those of you who have played terraria, it is pretty much like the Crystal Hearts but rarer. Its interesting but also tiring because of how big the world is, You have to explore and explore and explore to find these upgrade platforms. There is simply no way you can chance upon this without luck since there is no navigation help or map for you to refer to.

So do I recommend this game? Sure, I do, but overall I give this game about a 6.5/10. Keep in mind that this is still in early access.

It has a massive content, but not enough help support, things are still very buggy, but it is not unplayable, the designs is pretty and simple, but a little unappealing. The developers are helpful, they respond alot, the game is updated very frequently,

My unsatisfaction with this game is due to its grinding factor of kill dig kill dig, find stuff, continue killing, build stuff, and finally, just finally, you can get to the first dungeon and die more, realising you need better armor, and to get better armor, you need better buildings, so you kill and dig more, to build these buildings and armor, but it is way too slow, so you need to build better tools, but for better tools, you also need to kill and dig more. THEN you also need better weapons, and you know where I'm going with this.

So why am I still playing it? Well to be honest, it is because of the developers. They want to improve this game, so I close an eye while writing this review and at the same time, try to tell you guys about the truth of this game. It is not exciting, half of the game is not completed yet, but hearing what the developers have to say, I'm sure that EoS will be much more fun when it is launched. So i'll give you a couple of reasons to get this game and a couple not to.

Get this game if you
- are patient and want to see the game grow, contribute to the community and give feedback to the developers.
- are willing to fork out money to support the development of EoS.
- are willing to take the risk and pay a cheaper price for early access, with hopes that this game does not end up like other Early access games.
- You are a rich ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, so why the hell not?

Do not get this game (now) if you
- Just want another Terraria-like game to fill your time. (Seriously, if that's your motive, don't get it yet)
- Want to get the full experience right now, and you are unable to tolerate buggy, and slow-paced game. (In this case, you should try Starbound for a better experience)
- Want a multiplayer game for you and your friends to play with. (Yes, reasons for this is because it is likely that either 1 of you are gonna get bored, and when you buy this for multiplayer, you are gonna play this for multiplayer, and end up not playing it when your friends stop.)

*Update*
While this game is not terrible, those of you who do not have that much patience, did not have an enjoyable experience or with expectations that are not met, but at the same time would like a concept similar to EOS, maybe "Signs Of Life" would appeal to you more.

I wanted to thumbs up this review but at this time I wouldn't recommend it to others. It is a work in progress but a couple of key issues are preventing me from doing so.

To keep this as brief as possible, there's not hardly any "How to" up to date resource online - most of what I found was from more than 12 months ago and a lot of the game content has changed since then. The in-game tutorial is better than nothing but it only goes over the basics and the in-game codex doesn't offer the detail needed. If the developer would put up some current video tutorials it would help out a lot.

When I first started playing it was a major red flag to me that you couldn't pause the game in single player. The game can be fairly complex (which is a good thing if you have a resource to explain it) and most of what's available online is fairly outdated. People were left to ask questions on the forums. Not a major issue for people that have been playing since 2013, but for new players (even ones with experience from playing other similar games like Terraria or Starbound) they can lose motivation to continue quickly without knowing what to do next to progress.

It's not a bad game, it has potential and it's still in development. However I could not recommend it at this time. I have uninstalled the game and will check back in a few months.

Terraria is better, but only because its a fully developed game. This one is still in progress, but is incredibly addictive, even more so than Terraria in my opinion. They've implemented a skilling system, where you repurpose dirt and mud etc into experience data which you then use to level your skills up in order to unlock new weapons and armor. Its a little complicated for those who just came from the simplicity of Terraria, but you catch on pretty quick.

Its a little unbalanced, but what can you expect from an early access game? I say if you liked Terraria, you'll probably like Edge of Space a lot too, but you'll want it when it comes out fully. The world's a little too big, with not enough to do, and the Arctic Biome is really dangerous, but again, I'm expecting these things will be expanded on eventually.

Final verdict: Currently not nearly as deep and immersive as Terraria but has INCREDIBLE potential to become an even better game.

9.5/10 cant wait for the released game

Hello readers!

Let's get the obvious out the of the way: it's in Beta. There will be changes. There are glitches. Boo-hoo.

Pros:

It's engaging, especially compared to the garden variety of miners and crafters out there. There is a multifaceted approach to crafting that requires both raw materials and the know-how of a specific skill to be able to craft. Science Points (SP) are awarded for everything - killing baddies to laser-punching dirt - and are used for increasing skill levels in broad categories such as Base Construction (BUILD BIGGER CHESTS!) to Utilities (MAKE STRONGER LAZERBEAM!) to Consumables (WHO NEEDS CRYORODS ANYWAYS?). Once your skill level is increased you can then craft a better item for yourself! Enough on crafting..

Enemies! They're gorgeous! They're varied! They kick my ♥♥♥ =( They have weaknesses that make it an engaging combat game beyond point-and-click. Angles of attack, parabolic arcs, and reload times all need to be taken into consideration when fighting the local floral and fauna. Build stronger weapons! Fight bigger baddies! Get more SP! Build Data from SP into building better weapons! Rinse - repeat - pwn.

Dungeons! Just when you think you've found it all - suddenly you're platforming through a mega-dungeon fighting off mechanical brains with well-timed plasma rifle shots! Loot Loot Loot Loot.

More dungeons! Did you know penguins like pre-marital sex and Daft Punk? Play this game to find out why. They're promiscious. And deadly. More Loot! Why do I need all these brain stems? SCIENCE!

Cons:

It's in Beta. Lighting sometimes ♥♥♥♥♥ itself - sometimes there's no shadows at all! Hitboxes have been off before - but appear to have been patched. Nothing gamebreaking that I've run into with my 38 hours. 1/2 the world isn't filled in yet - but I'm sure it will be amazing when it is! There's more than enough to explore as is.

The only gripe I have is lack of map - but it is a planned implementation, and I'm sure will be here soon. It's a large and confusing world - even with teleportation available you still get your ♥♥♥ lost.


OVERALL GRADE:

WOULD BUY AGAIN / 10

I give it a solid 8.5 - with the possibility to be a 9 or even 10 when all the bugs are worked out and content is added. The time I have put into it should say enough. As a fan of Minecraft and Terraria - both Vanilla - the Edge of Space more than meets my expectations and is my current crack.

Edge of Space pits you against the environment as you progress downward as opposed to side by side. You gradualy start to encounter bigger badder challanges that not only require you to be well prepaired equiptment wise, but it also requires you to bring more advanced tools.

The versatility in Edge of Space's tools seperates it from alot of other sandbox games because you can choose to have a longer, less powerful range, or a shorter more powerful version of your tools. This gives you options to work with.

The armor sets also differnt from other games in the aspect that they are not necissarly combat focused. Instead of Ranger, Mage, Melee, you get Builder, Explorer, Fighter. Each armor catering to a particular task rather then a weapon role. All items are created from crafting data of a specific sub catagory in crafting, so you can specialize and focus on one area at a time rather then pooling all of your science (aka accumulative xp pool ) into everything at once.

Edge of Space also offers a challange factor with it's dungeons. It disables things like jet packs and grappling hooks and building so that you can not cheese the boses for easy wins.

This should give you an idea of how the game plays out and how it differs from other games of it's kind.

Development Stage: Early Access

Early Access Compitence Rateing: 9/10 - Things were bumpy at first for what ever reasons, but things turned around quickly. The developers never gave up despite the road bumps and updates are comeing in frequantly. Edge of Space is a very good example of Early Access done right.

Exploration: 9/10 - The environment can be dangerous, there's danger around every corner and you need to prepair accordingly. There are events and outposts that keep you busy and though it is currently in an infant state of things, I can see how the world will gradualy become more and more full as time advances.

Crafting: 8/10 - Crafting is based on xp and tends to get a bit grindy, but it's quite rewarding once you unlock new things.

Game Controls: 8/10 - Some obvious bugs are still around, but it will not hinder the game experince too much. Jetpacks can also go wildly out of control and some of the grapple mechanics can send your character bouncing about.

Game Play: 8/10 - I suspect the game will greatly improve with time, but at the moment there is a limited amount of content to keep you busy, so the game becomes a bit grindy. Again, I suspect this will change greatly in the near future.

Music: 9/10 - The music is very fitting for the game and quite immersive.

Graphics: 8/10 - It's gritty and retro, but also very fitting for the game style. Some of the texture look weird, but it's a fair representation of what it is conveying.

Newbie Friendly: 7/10 - Newbies will catch on eventualy, but the learning curve is a bit harsh. But in a good way. It is suggested to have some platformer experince before attempting Edge of Space. Newer generation gamers may have trouble where as older generation gamers will have little trouble with landing platforms and timeing jumps.

Community and Moderators: 9/10 - Very few fights, healthy interactions. Strong communication, very good staff members. Moderation is fair and efficent and well handled.

Developers: 10/10 - Very approachable developers, they are always happy to answer questions. They have sense of humor and are reasonable people. Very good company to invest your faith and funds into.

Normally I don't do early access reviews. Partly because early access is really about development, not playing (and reviewing) a finished product. Partly because everything is in too much flux for the review to be valid for long.

Mostly because I'm too lazy to write reviews for finished games, let alone one still in alpha/beta.

But I'll make an exception here, because even in it's current incomplete state, it is already one of my favorite games. It's also a fine example of what early access should be: An engaged development team that listens to feedback, works with the community, and simply wants to deliver a great experience to the people who buy their product.

From an investment standpoint (which is how early access should be approached IMHO), this is exactly the type of product I'd want to back. The fact they're making a game I want to play makes it even better.

If you come looking for another Terraria clone... you will be shocked, you will be surprised, and you will be.... kinda WRONG. It's a great game, it's pretty original in its crafting system, breaking things into their component catagories so that one thing can be used in place of another if it's in the same catagory. New updates are always fixing things, and the new research and XP system is awesome!

A highly entertaining and humorous game, as well as a very unpredictable one!

Pretty cool game, little more confusing than Starbound when I get into it for the first time but I feel like the more confusing a game is the more fun it will be later on depending on the game type. It is more similar to Starbound than it it to Terraria if anything, I didn't get too far into the game so I can't say if it is much like Terraria at all.

If you played all you could of Terraria and Starbound and absolutely love the sandbox genre of games then you will love Edge of Space. This game combine many of the elements of Terraria with an Edge of Space trim to it. The gameplay itself is similar to Terraria, but with a Starbound spacey theme. The game is unique in its own way. Game music is good, better than starbound but not as cool as Terraria. The game is more complex then Terraria and Starbound which can deter players who play it for the first time.

The tutorial explains the basic controls and concepts of the game, but in my opinion, more could have been done to explain the game mechanics for crafting.

You have to read your codex entries after the tutorial to figure out what you need to do. Once you do that the game becomes very fun to play. Explore, craft, fight... All is open to your disposal.

This game is still in beta, the developers are constantly patching the game and adding new content. The game only gets better from here.
