Special Notice Concerning the Next Patch

Hey, Everyone!

We want to let everyone know that the patch that was meant to be coming out this weekend, is being pushed to next weekend instead (weekend of the 27th). Last week, Paul got very sick on us, and we lost several days of dev time on his end. As he is the one working feverishly on the UI re-write, it brought things to a standstill on that front. Due to the fact that this IS an overhaul of the entire UI, including the menu screen, we’re not able to put through an update to the patch timer on the launcher. If we complete the patch and all needed work before then, we will happily patch it out sooner, but we want to err on the side of caution. This is a very labor intensive one for the team, and we want to be sure we set a realistic timeframe. We apologize for the delay, and we hope you guys will bear with us a little longer. By way of apology, we leave you with something awesome to look at, coming in the near future:

ArkCo News - 9/15/14

Hey ArkCoNauts!

As you all know, the patches have been pouring out, so it’s been awhile since we sat down for the news. The team is back from PAX, and we’re really happy with everyone’s response at the show. Players were treated to a crazy challenge dungeon, showing off what the dungeon system is capable of and what we have in store for the near future. Now that we’ve gotten back into the swing of things, the next patch on the 22nd is starting to take shape. The focus has to do with UI redesign, something many have felt the game needs. We have not been deaf to that feedback at all and things are already looking so much better as we move forward with this! Here's a look at the new character selection screen:

Following this patch, we start to look again at the bigger picture, and move forward to another huge overhaul of player progression. We’ll be bringing in some very exciting new directions for it, and it will allow the player to take a far more active role in deciding how their character is built throughout the game. The player experience is very important to us, and it’s an area we know has been in need of the attention for a long while. From here, we continue to build progression and solidify the way the higher tiers of content will fit in. The changes coming will start to move from the frame that is in place now, to a more robust, multiple play-style system. While some may instinctively groan at the idea of having to re-learn things, the overall result ties in beautifully with all the progress the game has made over the first half of the year. We’re very proud of what Edge of Space has become and look very much forward to seeing these new changes in the hands of players. We will be listening closely to the feedback from you all, as we continue to polish the game, and make it feel better to play than ever before.

On the Community side, we are drawing ever closer to our Halloween event, and are excited to see that coming together. With the help of our awesome community team, we look forward to some frightening fun in October. Good times are ahead, and we’re ready to rock this! You must terraform the entire world, craft armor, weapons, kits, and vehicles to help you explore and conquer. Starting only with a laser pick and the gear from your pod you must immediately start gathering resources to survive. At the absolute edge of space you will adapt or die! Good luck ArkCo Operative!

I bought this from kickstarter long time ago, during its ALPHA stages it was great and showed a lot of promise.

They removed most of the enmies for a long time which was kinda frustrating as the game felt like it only had 3 enemis to kill.

They made the world smaller and only go donwards direction which makes it really hard to travel as you cant predict if your jatpack can take it or you die falling.

The quest are a good addition but mostly impossible as with the weapons you can get early they do 1 damage so destroying a craps nest takes so long you cant destroy it before time runs out.
Same thing with defend defence platform, once you take the quest 8 enemies will spawn inside the defence platform and destroy it less than 10 seconds hitting it 15 dam per tick inside the platform.
Also its kinda weird that enmies that hit it are seen in the game wilderness as non damaging mobs and yes they will even hurt you even thou they should not.

The new research system takes far too long to get anything build. Even the basics. As you need to grind load of enemies to get 15-25 points in certain research gategories at random in order to advance it further which requires 1000 or more per level and enemies wont drop reserach date always when killed.

Currently for some reason you cant even build the next weapon in line as its material tables are bugged and it wont allow you to put any of the right materials in to build it.

Also the current weapon system is kinda sad as you can only upgrade your weapon and not really build more weapons jsut the one you have.

Enemies can spawn anewhere, even inside you and they sure like to spawn inside your base all the time. You need to constantly clear it out.

Enemies also tend to have so much hp that with your 1 dam pea shooter you need about 30 shots to kill one enemy and yo ueven have to reaload it slowly. Thou the weapons are made randomly if you are lucky you might get weapon with 2 dam.

The lighting day and night system is getting an upgrade soon which is a great thing but at its current state it is horid. Black boxes that dont even fade in but appear instantly when night comes. Luckily this shoul be fixed soon but its been this bad for a long time.

There are many normal alpha game buggs that dont bother me like animatiosn are the wrong way, characters spazzing out when looking up ( this will be fixed soon too =) ), etc cant craft things, de-sync at servers, etc.

The developers are very active and have improved this game alot thou sometimes things have gone the other way too but currently I dont recomend this. This will prolly be good at some point but not yet. Consider buying terraria, 7 days to die, minecraft or maybe crea while you wait for this to pop up good.

I will edit this review as the game updates, hopefully it get better. I really hope so.

Edge Of Space may just seem like another one of those Not-so-smash-hit Terraria replicas. However, if you actually explore the game you'll find that it's much more than that.

First off, There's the hefty tutorial, and the (rather) steep learning curve. You'll probably be finding yourself tripping over yourself in the three different menus, each at a not-that-convenient spot on your keyboard.(V for Crafting? Really?) All the while your having your energy zapped by one of those nice little energy suckers. But once you get used to the very confusing interface it shouldn't be much trouble.

Now that we are out of the inital Edge Of Space experience, we'll start talking about some of it's better qualitys. First and most noticable thing is the Weapons. In this game, you can take the phrase "No weapon is the same" literally. Different types, Different Ammunition, Different Specs, just about different everything. Ever played Borderlands 1 or 2? Take their weapon system and apply it hear.

Next:
Updates. Your never not sure when another updates going to be out, because they have a in-game update timer, and the updates are shot out faster than most Early Access games can blink.

THE RESULT:
While many players will get bored and lose interest in the first chunk of gameplay, those who stick around sure will be going for a fun ride- and loss of outside-world productivity. If you're a patient gamer, I recommend you pick up this title right now.
You won't be dissapointed.

Edge of Space is a dream for sci-fi fans. Also, is a dream for the early adopters, because the devs are always upgrading the game and talking to the community. This is how an Early Access game should be!

If you buy before the official launch, you'll receive exclusive content. If sandbox games are your cup of tea, I highly recommend you to try Edge of Space!

You've just crashed on a planet. All you've got is some utilities from your ship you were able to grab. You can mine, you can build, and you can craft. What will you do to survive?

(tl;dr at bottom)

If you're a fan of Terraria, but want something a little more bizarre, and more focused on space, this is definitely your game. Don't see it as Terraria or Minecraft knock-off, though. This game is one of the most unique games of this type that I've seen. Most notably, the crafting system. The way this game's crafting system works is just fantastic. Rather than picking around for specific blocks, you are able to craft things by finding blocks to fit the requirements for density, permiability, and other criteria for creating an object. There is more to this, but I'd rather let you find that out for yourself, as there are many machines in this game that would take a while to fully explain.

As you can see the graphics in the screenshots, and audio in the trailers, I'm not really going to dive that deep into them. The only thing I'd like to note is character creation. There is at least a moderate amount of customization for your character off the bat, and even more when you consider vanity and armor further in the game, so if that's the type of thing you're into, consider it another plus.

This game isn't completely great though, and I won't be able to stress enough that this game is EARLY ACCESS, and that's what you're paying for. A lot of it isn't done. There are bugs and glitches (though not really anything that will ruin the experience).

tl;dr

Pros:
+ Crafting system
+ Plenty of other machines to play around with
+ Block variety (there are vending machines, TVs, etc that you can craft)
+ Customization
+ Boss fights
+ Misc. world events (worm holes and such will crop up here and there)
+ Concept (the idea is cool)
+ Playtime (lots of playtime in this, even at this stage)

Cons:
- Graphics (while the graphics aren't bad, you could get sick from watching the world backdrop)
- Not finished (bugs - bugs everywhere)
- Emphasis on not finished (not that much content)
