[Development] Hudson Mk V - A twin-engined rascal!

The twin-engined passenger aircraft which proved its value during the war as a light bomber.
Meet the Hudson Mk V!

Aviation has presented many cases of military machines which, after the end of the conflict, were adapted for use in civilian service. The twin-engine Lockheed Super Electra was a good example that went in the complete opposite direction however. A well known and respected passenger aircraft became a no less recognizable light bomber, know in the European World War II theater as the Hudson.

The first machines ordered were transported from the United States to Great Britain in early 1939, being used in the spring before the outbreak of World War II by the RAF to patrol the North Sea. The Hudson also enrolled in history as the first Allied aircraft operating from the British Isles credited with shooting down a German aircraft during the opening stages of World War II. The event took place on October 8th 1939 over a cold Jutland.

[Development] Brigand B.1 - A Bandit without a mask

We are pleased to present to you the Royal Air Force successor of the well-known Bristol Beaufighter. The Bristol Brigand that will arrive in Update 1.63 Desert Hunters in the designated B.1 bomber variant.

We are pleased to present to you the Royal Air Force successor of the well-known Bristol Beaufighter - the Bristol Brigand that will arrive in Update 1.63 Desert Hunters in the designated B.1 bomber variant. The Bristol Brigand was the successor to the aging Bristol Beaufighter - a heavy 2 engine fighter that was able to step into a wide range of combat roles - from Night Fighter, Ground Attack aircraft to Naval torpedo bomber. The Brigand was developed during World War 2, but came too late to see service or to have any meaningful impact on the outcome of the war. It was later deployed during the Malayan Emergency.

The main idea behind producing a new type of multi-role heavy fighter was to simplify the production and logistics (the new Brigand reconstructed the tail of the existing “Buckingham” medium bomber), while aiming for higher speed and incorporating the implementation of newer technologies. The Brigand B.1 bomber variant was powered by two Bristol Centaurus 57 powerplants, each generating a maximum continuous power of 2,165 hp which allowed the aircraft to reach a maximum speed of 357 mph (574 km/h) at 16,500 feet (5,030 m). The weight of the empty aircraft was slightly over 11 tons and it was operated by a 3 man crew.

So after playing a LOT of hours, spending over $100, I've come to realize that this game can best be described as oversaturated pay to play. Yes, it is a fun game. At higher levels, you essentially have to be ridiculously good at playing or spend a LOT of money to keep from going negative on Silver Eagles. While it is free to play, if you want to get anywhere,m plan on spending $30-$50 MONTHLY. I no longer recommend this game due to its very greedy pay to play scheme.

Been playing for a while now.

Fun as hell provided you know what you're doing

Satisfaction of destroying anything russian

Relatively balanced f.e. big guns have bad armour and big massively heavy tanks are kinda pointless cos u wont ever see action.

BIG NEGATIVE ONE. The IS2 should be removed as its as easy to use as a noose

BIG NEGATIVE TWO. Premium is literally pay to progress, without it it will take you many hours to unlock a later vehicle and with it about 1 hour. lmao.

I have a very love-hate realtionship with War Thunder. Before I had a decent computer, this was the game that I looked forward to getting most. Hands down. When I got the game at last, I was very pleased.

The game looks fantastic. It performs incredibly well, especially considering the graphical quality and size of the maps. Additionally, outside of a few premium vehicles, there is very little pay-to-win. Unlike World of Tanks, you cannot buy special ammunition or consumables. I cannot think of a single aspect of the gameplay itself that is bad. In fact, I can think of little in that respect that is even mediocre.

So why not recommend it? 2 main things, that, between the two, ruin the game for me.

The matchmaking. Basically the balancing entirely. The recent introduction of mouse-guided ATGMs on (Surprise!) a Soviet tank broke late tier tank balancing. Similarly, there are age-old and unadressed issues with certain armor models, unrealistic shell performance, etc. that just make the game a nightmare for certain vehicles. Throw on top the bush camos that are just way too good. Even air forces has major problems. The addition of a (Surprise!) Soviet bomber that is basically the Death Star completely ruin my desire to keep grinding to the high tiers.

Along with balancing is the age-old issue of Russian (aka Soviet) bias on the part of the devs. Certain vehicles are and always have been completely overperforming. This transcends modes, but it is the worst in Ground Forces. Vehicles have balancing that just makes no sense, or have unrealistic performance that is not fixed by the devs. And I don't even know what they thought with some of the early Soviet planes. Do they obey physics? I con't tell, but I'm not entirely sure.

Throw on top of that the fact that, to account for shrinking player numbers, they compress the MM (which in turn means fewer players. No one saw that coming!) means that some battles are cases of give up, go back to the garage, and try again.

The second gripe is Gaijin Entertainment themselves. Not only do they make decisions that seem baffling (see "mouse-guided ATGMs") but they behave in an almost authoritarian way. I seriously wonder if they know that this is the 21st century. They silence criticizm, they ban players, they have forum moderators that behave like kings on a self-built throne, it's atrocious. Never use their forums. Just don't. You'll be banned or your thread blocked if you do as much as fromn at Gaijin.

I would say get the game for Naval Forces. I still will give it a second chance. However, my optimism is running out. In Naval Forces, I thought, was a place where the Japanese could be exceptional at something (they have no tanks yet and few aircraft), where the Soviets would not be as much of a problem. Where we could finally have land, air AND sea.

Instead we get boats. I am preparing for Russian Bias as stong as the rest of their game, possibly worse. Broken machines, broken mechanics, terrible MM, and even more opportunities for these developers to pretend Gorbachev is still in power.

Maybe if they sell the game to someone else, it could be fixed. It still has some of the INCREDIBLE potential that this game had in the beginning.

P.S. I thought I already made a review, but it is possible Gaijin had it removed. If so I rest my case, and take that "Mostly Positive" as nothing more that a Gaijin advertisement.

Not that I anticipate this review to be seen very much, but having been with the game since 2012 I feel compelled to make one. I have played the predecessor games (Wings/Birds of Prey and Birds of Steel) as well as put about 3000+ hours of time into WT, not all on the Steam version, but before steam link and including a previous account, and I just want to offer my perspective on the game.

War Thunder has undergone a large amount of changes in 4 years, which is to be expected. There was never a physical, celebratory release of the game from Open Beta into an actual game. That being said, it's not for the worse for it. The game used to have some very unbalanced features (Some may remember the horrors of 2 minute games with Yer Thunder, or the B-17 bomber aces with laser gunners, or farther back the scourge of the D-13 dominating the game). Recently, the ATGM tanks (which just require some changing of tactics) have been put down as 'bias' and 'unfair'. The game is much more balanced than many other vehicle-based combat games.

Also, trying to compare War Thunder to other games (World of Tanks, World of Warplanes, etc.) is not an apt comparison, the games are set up very differently, and WT is really a game all it's own.

As time has passed, most of the larger, more game-breaking imbalances have been corrected and despite what people may tell you, the cries of Russian/US/British/German/Japanese Bias are all unfounded. In the vast majority of places it's simply someone not knowing how to counter any specific group of planes (for example shooting a Lagg-3's wooden wings). There are some widely considered to be undertiered/overtiered tanks and aircraft. This is always in flux as the BRs for some vehicles change nearly patch to patch. Additionally things like damage and flight models for vehicles are being tweaked and adjusted on a constant basis.

Things that may be present in more intense simulators (things like unreliable engines, imperfect manufacturing, crew shellshock, etc.) aren't modeled into War Thunder. The vehicles in the game perform as close to they can while also maintaining easier control schemes for different game modes. For example, if you play simulator, you may be able to get better performance out of your plane than realistic mode due to being able to have a more complex control setup.

In terms of business-wise and staff-wise, Gaijin leaves some things to be desired. Some of the staff can be abrasive at times, but for the most part they are all pretty well-informed community aides. I, personally, have never had a bad experience with game moderators, forum moderators, or support members. Some say they have, but I can't offer insight into those cases. Every issue that I have gone to support with I have received help with and been able to resolve the issue. As a business, Gaijin has really been using the F2P model with microtransactions for in-game currency (called Golden Eagles). GE can be used for premium time, premium vehicles (they earn more research and silver lion currency then non-premium vehicles), and decals and camos to adorn your vehicles with (most of these can be unlocked for free with playtime). Again, you will see a lot of cries of Pay-to-Win here, but that isn't the case. The model that it is is really Pay-to-Advance, as the increased rewards just help with research times and working your way up the grinding ladder.

If you're looking for realism, War Thunder may not be the best game, simply because play is simplified for a wider playerbase, which is something people mark as a bad thing, but it's just a business move. The game has always been that way, and will continue to be more simple-focused, which isn't to bash on people playing in these modes, there are just more people in those modes.

Gameplay is fairly easy to catch on to, but does take some time, patience, and practice to master. Knowing what your plane or tank can do, what strengths/weaknesses it has, and other attributes of your vehicle as well as the same of the enemy vehicles that you face is needed. The game is a time investment, you won't be able to hop right into it and get to top-tier in a week or two, it'll take longer than that.

Edit: On hacking/cheating. Gaijin regularly (every month or so) announces how many accounts were determined to be using 'external modifications. and bans those accounts permanently. Most of the time, you will encounter no cheats, people can make vehicles do some pretty smooth tricks with gameplay mechanics, or are just better-than-average and players will look for an excuse as to why they lost. Not saying it to be elitist, but that's just honesty.

Edit: Playerbase. To be honest the playerbase much anymore is filled with a lot of people who are all too happy to rage and vent anger in any way they can (cries of bias, teamkilling, spamming caps). These players are in the minority, most players are quiet and occasionally will say something or two. I cannot fault the game for actions of the people playing it. And there are a lot of good people out there in the game (the majority of players). I recommend playing alone or with people that you know you communicate well with. A squad of 4 people can clean house in any given game if they know each other and what they're doing.

There are frustrating moments. Mainly for me, game updates are blocked on most of the networks I play on, as they do outside network security and Peer-to-Peer downloading is blocked. (Colleges, a lot of libraries, the like). I have not had much at all in the way of game bugs or glitches, crashes, or anything of that sort. You will come across some limitations, especially on older machines, but don't be deterred. I played on a potatotop for a year on minimum settings at 30fps, the game was still enjoyable.

TL;DR- War Thunder has some realistic attributes, but also some simplified attributes. Don't listen to people crying wolf with bias, use your own patience and know-how to play and it is fun and rewarding. Be prepared to invest your time into the game, not for a quick rush to the 'end'. Play the game, if you find it fun or entertaining, stick around, just go along with the ride.

PS- If anyone is looking to play, or discuss the game, feel free to find me in-game and I would be happy to join!

Would be much better if the maps were actually fair to all countries.
Basically, in real life US fighters weren't meant to be interceptors. They were made with large fuel tanks, sturdy airframes, engines optimized for high altitude, and machine guns. The reason: to escort bombers from long distances. In War Thunder, we instead see US planes thrown into an interceptor situation against planes which perform the role of intercepting extremely well (ones with light airframes, cannons, high climb rates, etc). The maps show an obvious advantage to planes designed for this role due to their size. This results in people having to "side climb" to recreate the long journey the American fighters would take when escorting bombers. Problem is, you're usually the only person that does this, with the rest of your team either being bombers or fighters at low altitude that get picked off in a matter of seconds. Furthermore, making even the simplest mistake while BnZing an enemy leaves you vulnerable to their whole team and in a matter of seconds you'll have 20 cannon rounds in your fuselage. And for some reason, naval and army planes are thrown together.

I'm not whining about "Russian Bias" or how American planes suck. American planes don't suck. Actually, they're amazing for what they were made to do: ESCORTING BOMBERS over long distances. Not intercepting fighters. And if they were given that role in the game, they would be extremely formidable. As of now, unless you're with a squad of people climbing together, extremely good/lucky or going against a team of idiots, you're playing with a lost chance.

Cancerous piece of ♥♥♥♥♥! Treating paying customers with disrespect. Optimizing the game to fit their supererior russian nationalism worldview while having the most obnoxious and gangster capitalism price policy on steam.

You pay gold and you get a stinking pile of crap in return.

Playerbase is shrinking. Dont make the mistake to put it on your Hard Drive or even spend one Dime on this blackhole. 7 years of development and the most obnoxious bugs are not fixed. Stop braking german planes damage models so that steel giants now can burn out like paper planes. LMG does nothing to enemy fighters even with the "best" icendiary ammo belts. Leveling your gunners does nothing. Matchmaking is so hamfisted its not funny. Nothing is historical nothing is balanced properly. No matter if you play Historical or "Realistic" Battles or Arcade Battles. The game modes are sickening bad. The Map design is sickening worse. And the game mechanics are utterly broken. Its a simulator , right a simulator of how much a game company can abuse its playerbase and customers and laugh at history and realism and moste of all the core of a game fun and great teamwork. Everything is designed to ♥♥♥♥ you over. I wish there was a refund option for Golden Eagles and Bundles bought on gaijin page.

The player base is cancerous and the program itself is just a frustrating pile of bits occupying your precious hard drive space.

I have been on Warthunder on and off. And it's constantly the same thing, 1 Nation is OP as ♥♥♥♥ and all the others keep getting nerfed. Please, either fix the balancing matches for skill level (Tired of sh*t teammates screwing up the game), balance nations or just put the ACTUAL HISTORICAL values.

Until then, beatings will continue until morale improves on my end, and I will play once again, once the game is "stable".

I played this game for a long time, yet i won't recommend this game.
For almost two years, each time i get the same useless bonus (backup vehicle or 5000 coins, a normal low ranked tank's price is 300.000 coins) only once or twice i could get a normal bonus, which was again a cheap, useless bonus but since it was few times it felt good (15.000 coins), so if i get 21 time bonus (21 days of login) i can buy a cheap tank for myself with
again im greatful for some cheap, useless, low priced bonus.

War Thunder is not a player-friendly game for free gaming, you need to pay for it or else game developers woudn't give ♥♥♥♥ about you because there are so many other players, you will see that i am right after this game will keep on giving you the same useless bonuses over and over..

I keep playing War Thunder but i decided not purchase anything because i know the next day i pay, I will keep receiving a repair fee for a light tank as a bonus. This game will give you nothing instead of ''CONGRATS YOU WONT 5000 COINS'' so why should i trust this game at all? They won't get nothing from me for being so greedy, the only way this game will start giving you something is when no one will play that game, and the bonuses will be out of desperation. I've seen many greedyass developers that were begging for coins in the end and that is what they deserve.

I spent almost 2 years for this game, don't make the same mistake (PS ; i won't delete the game since i spent so much time to open up high tiers, but give a chance for other tank simulation games, unless you have 2 years to develop yourself to have atleast decent gaming experience.

In short, you may enjoy the game, but don't expect much help from the game itself, i will write further reviews if there will be any change in rewarding system or some player-friendly act by the game developers.

I know no matter how much i write, game developers will laugh their ♥♥♥ of me since they dont give a ♥♥♥♥.. why am i saying this, NO change at all. 5000 COINS gifted well done (after 2 years) can i not accept the gift since i do not want some chewed chewing gum as a gift? I'd prefer a gift that is written "dear player, f-ck you" instead of 5000 coins ( to unlock a ♥♥♥♥ tank its atleast 300.000 coins. Every chance-roll is set and known to the developers, after i spin it slowly stops at backup tanks or 5000 coins (every time). Seriosly sorry for my language but ♥♥♥♥off, i have more chance in an illegal casino. Someday ppl will realize this bs and will go away and then everything will be free, when no one is playing this game anymore. I hope g.developers will start to give a ♥♥♥♥ about people. Ill make further comments after the new update

Literally unplayable at higher tier.Im talking about tanks. If you want to play anything else than german tanks prepare for a cluster ♥♥♥♥ of campers.Thats it.Every single match at high tier is a cluster ♥♥♥♥ of german tanks camping. And you cant do anything because the frontal armor is too thick to penetrate and you cant flank because EVERY SINGLE GERMAN TANK PLAYER IS CAMPING IN THE SPAWN.

Once apon a time Gaijin used to listen to the people and use their ideas to make the game. Thats was about 4 years ago, now what the Russian company have done is broke the game so much nothing can fix it.
It is unbalanced
It has a clear Russian bias
It isn't historicly accurate like it claims to be
The battle ratings are so bad that people stop as soon as they go to tier 2
There is one "supper" battle raiting at BR 8.0 where planes from 2 complety differnt time peroids fight
The maps are too big or too small
There isn't enough space in the BR's for more planes or tanks unless they make a new battle rating
It isn't clear what you want to research
Ignore the Mostly possitve reviews, that was at a time when Gaijin listend. Now they don't. War thunder is run be a dictorship. It's a shame a game like this is in the wrong hands
