[Development] Stow the boiling vessel - Target front!

Dear friends!

Since the development of War Thunder began, we have strived to diversify all of the in-game content available to our players. We have added new aircraft and new locations, we added new ground vehicles for the USSR and Germany. We introduced a research tree for US ground vehicles. Of course, we didn’t plan to stop there, and so, we would like to proudly present to you a project that the development team has been working on diligently for a long time - British ground vehicles!

Fast and deadly, heavy and protected, beautiful and powerful, here they are! - ground vehicles for a fourth nation in War Thunder. The manufacture of ground vehicles from Great Britain proved to have an unusual approach in combining armour and weaponry. Often, they created unique vehicles, of which no counterpart anywhere else in the world could match.

In the first Devblog about British ground vehicles, we would like to introduce players to three prominent British developments, which were in the armed forces of Great Britain during and after WW2. Just from the examples of these three vehicles that have been shown here, you can already see how different and diverse the British manufacturing techniques of ground vehicles was, techniques which led to superb vehicles that will soon be available for our players in War Thunder. So let’s put away our tea mugs and see what we've got!

Medium “cruiser” tank A34 “Comet”

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=489807221

The A34 “Comet” was the further development of the “Cromwell”. An incredible vehicle, which was recognized by the British command as the best in its class. At a weight of only 33 tons, its firepower was greater than the firepower of any other Allied medium tank of its time. The only other comparable vehicle within the British Ground Forces, the Sherman Firefly, was greatly inferior to the “Comet” in all characteristics, except the cannon’s penetration.

The “Comet” was upgraded and modified to fit the 17-pounder-antitank cannon, which already proved its effectiveness as a field cannon. Besides that, the armour on the vehicle turret was improved, while the chassis was taken from the “Cromwell”. In game, the vehicle shows its strengths against opponents at rank III and IV, but tankers should not rely on armour protection, as non sloped armour may lead to poor survivability. The proper use of its excellent combination of mobility and cannon performance transform the “Comet” into a dangerous hunter against enemy tanks and self-propelled guns behind enemy lines.

Heavy infantry tank Churchill Mk.III

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=489807173
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=489807172

The “Churchill” is a legendary British infantry support tank. Thanks to its successful design and excellent armour protection, which was further enhanced as the vehicle was modernized, the “Churchill” successfully participated in various theaters of World War II, including even parts of the Battle of Kursk and the Korean War. Its extremely low maximum speed on roads and cross country is made up for by very good armour protection. The Mk.III comes equipped with a 6-pounder (57mm) anti-tank cannon, which may sometimes be lacking in penetration to combat some enemy vehicles on medium to far distances. Thus, the driver of the “Churchill” has to adapt his tactics by steadily approaching the enemy and attacking from short distance. At the same the Churchill can provide cover to nearby allied vehicles using its massive hull.

Medium tank Centurion Mk.3

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=489807236
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=489807203

This third modification of the British “Centurion” tank was equipped with the QF 20 (83.8mm) pounder cannon, which is a very unique weapon indeed: It was an extremely powerful main cannon based on the infamous German 88mm KwK.43 cannon. It was the first cannon to feature so-called “sabot” rounds, in which the projectile was encased in a detachable holder - the sabot. While it came too late to actively participate in World War II, it proved its effectiveness in other conflicts like the Korean War and Vietnam. In War Thunder, this vehicle will take its rightful place at rank IV, where it will be a worthy opponent for the late modifications of the Panther and T-44.

Already this year in War Thunder!

[Competition] Loving the Unloved II

Dear Pilots and Tankers!
Some vehicles in War Thunder don’t quite get the attention they deserve; therefore, I believe we, as a community must change this!
Starting today we are going to have a little competition here in our “Live War Thunder” Community.

Loving the Unloved
Righto, time for round two you talented individuals. Did you miss us?

I think it’s perhaps time for some unloved axis planes. How about some bomber love? SM.79’s it is. Remember, keep them historical if you want to try to win some prizes. You have two weeks.

#unloved

II Spot the Sparrowhawk
A bit of an ugly duckling but we can change that with a bit of makeup..

You have two weeks to create your best historical SM.79 skins using any of our models in game, whichever one you prefer. The top 3 skins will be selected by the Live.WT moderation team. Each of these winners will receive a nice shiny SM.79 1937 or SM.79bis to add to the collection as well as 2000, 1000 and 500 Golden Eagles respectively.

More details you can find on Live.WT site!

Joined America as a pilot.
Hours of practice and training.
Totally ready for realistic mode now.
Decided to become a bomber in realistic mode in Saipan.
Started out on an aircraft carrier.
Increased throttle.
Ohhhhh yeah ♥♥♥♥ just got real.
Wingspan was too wide for carrier.
Right wing hits the superstructure and falls off.
Oh ♥♥♥♥.
Bomber and pilot, along with three gunners, plunge into the ocean.
At the last second pilot thinks back to the girl back home, the one he left behind.
Drowns.
Have to wait 9 minutes for early death penalty.

30 minutes later, Victory in Saipan.

11/10 Will die for the American Cause again.

You know you've been playing too much War Thunder when...

You have a panic attack while driving over bridges. You assume other drivers are going to push you off at any moment.

While looking at cars you picture them in x-ray mode, noting where the critical modules are.

While looking at planes in real life, you picture a target in front of them, guessing how much you would have to lead the target.

You get frustrated with your car mechanic when he can't fix your car in under one minute.

You can only hold your breath underwater for five seconds before you drown.

You suddenly can pronounce German and Russian.

While watching the news you see an airliner attempt a landing with one wing. "No big deal" you think.

You get nervous when you hear a plane above you.

You know more about flying planes than some pilots and you have never flown a plane.

When you see two kids' kites get tied up together, you mutter to yourself, "damn team killers..."

You freak out every time someone tailgates you.

You constantly beg your optometrist for "keen vision," even though your vision is 20/20.

You don't have to use an alarm clock anymore. You sit bolt upright after nightmares of "YOUR LEFT WING!"

You drive a car that has two fire extinguishers inside, a set of tracks instead of a spare tire, and a hatchet and a shovel on the side.

When the car dealership asks what color you want, you insist on bicolor summer camouflage.

When a cop pulls you over and asks why your steering wheel has been replaced with a joystick, you tell him "simulator mode."

You get fired from your towing job because you towed a car upside down while the driver was still inside.

You drive right through Road Closed and Flood warning signs into 4 feet of water. Only after you car is completely submerged do you get nervous.

After hundreds of hours on this, I can honestly say I cannot reccomend this game. The real issue is how ♥♥♥♥ed the battle rating system Gaijin implemented is. You may not notice it at first... but eventually it will drive you crazy. Because it will never be fixed, never. This is the second problem, the developer is actively hostile to player feedback. On the forums people's posts concerning negative aspects of the game are deleted by the moderating staff with no reason given. It's just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ company... The payment model, while fair, is horrendously overpriced, and never on sale. The grind for this game is absolutely insane. It takes soooo ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ long to grind out anything past tier 3 in aircraft that you will quickly grow sick of it. (Edit: By the way trolls, I'm saying this because I'm grinding out tier 5, not because I haven't gotten to tier 3... morons.)

I wish I could reccomend this game, because at its core warthunder is one of the best flight sims out there (and when the match maker isn't being ♥♥♥♥, games can be incredibly fun) but for the reasons stated above, I simply cannot. There are developers that treat their customers with a million times the respect that gaijin shows for its playerbase. Games like Warframe really show how absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ gaijin is about rewarding their playerbase and how bad their free to play model actually is.

Save you time, save your money, play something else. Go outside, work out, you will feel a million times better about yourself than if you waste your time on this.

Edit 1: To the commenters that say "KEKEKEK Yall just suck at this game, git gud" You will be deleted. That is not a valid criticism, and even if it were true it doesn't make any negative critique of the game invalid. I have seen frankly amazing players making the same criticisms of this game. I've been playing this game for years and have finally gotten fed up, if you are still enjoying the game I have no intention of taking that from you, I am only warning you that the things that annoy you about the game now are likely to be there for quite some time.

Edit 2: I have had some time to cool down away from the game, and have even tried getting back into it for the 1.51 update. While I can say that I still have fun in this game from time to time I still cannot really reccomend it. Not yet anyway. They made some neat additions and added some cool planes, but really it's still the massive, frustrating time sink I remember. If you've only just started this game you can be forgiven for thinking that it's awesome. It is!... Until you try to be serious about progressing, then it turns from fun into literally pulling your hair out. I would reccomend trying this game, and then maybe playing for an hour or two every week but no more than that... It's hard to find a game to get your WWII flight sim fix these days, especially for free. So unfortunately it doesn't really have much in the way of competition. Once again, I wish I could reccomend this game but my opinion hasn't changed, spend your time and money on a game/developer that respects its players.
