Mitra, yama, qsiti, sovani...
These four races exist in one world.
A world filled with Remnants — mysterious artifacts from an ancient era.

Who created the Remnant? How long ago? And for what purpose?
With these questions left unanswered, the Remnants became beneficial tools used for the good of civilization.
The world was at peace...or so it seemed. Who was to know such darkness lay in wait?

The powers of the Remnants slowly began to change the world's balance.
A rift slowly formed between those who ruled and those who obeyed.
This was the dawning of a new era — an era of countless frays that would be brought upon the world by those enslaved by their own lust for power.

A thousand years later, the journey of one young man begins.

Featuring an enthralling story, countless characters and an intricate battle system, Square Enix brings the RPG experience known as The Last Remnant to the PC.

A lot better than the Xbox 360 version...this PC version gives you a lot more control over the battlefield.

Surprising large file size and CPU requirements.

* you have many options to turn that down though *

Battle system like the old "SaGa" games...keep your battle rank low unless you want bosses to one-shot you.

If you have the time and space to download this title and enjoy challenging RPG' give this a try !!

The Last Remnant is my favorite JRPG of all time, and definitely holds a place of my top 10 games of all time. Here's why.

This game is wholly unique. Usually, when one says "JRPG", you have a good sense of what you're getting into. Cliched characters (whether you like those cliches or not), quirky personalities, a turn-based battle system, a long convoluted story with plenty of twists, and be prepared to roll your eyes or shake your fist at the screen for some character antics or story twists you saw coming from early on. In The Last Remnant, little of this is true. The story is unique, the art style and characters are unique, some of the twists and story archs are surprising, and the battle system is so unlike anything else you've ever played, somewhere between a JRPG and a large scale strategy game with army simulation elements.

This game is known to be quite challenging. I bought the Xbox 360 version on the game's release date, and have beat the game a few times and put a couple hundred hours into it. After completing my first PC playthrough tonight after about 90 hours, I can say for certain the PC version is about 3000% easier. An update was made to the game that made a few changes that made the PC version exponentially easier, though it is still more challenging than the average RPG. So if you happened to try the 360 version and were turned off by its difficulty, I urge you to try the PC version.

The Last Remnant needs to be commended for its ability to have realistic and relatable characters, and multiple characters you care about and will remember forever. In this game, you are able to literally build up a small army to take into battles with you, where enemies and your people are separated into "unions" rather than each person being separate from one another. It is here where the game brings in large-scale strategy type battles, allowing the unions to act as one unit. Strategy fans will delight in the ability to hire soldiers and characters for their army, picking and choosing people based on their unique skill sets and abilities. You are able to hire people you've perhaps done quests with, or people you've never met that happen to have a skill you've never heard of, just because you want to see it in action. You then pick and choose which people to put with whom, how to set up your unions, etc., giving limitless possibilities for your army. Also, your followers will often ask for certain items, ingredients, etc. throughout the game, which they'll use to upgrade their equipment and become even more badass. (And trust me, this game is full of badass characters.) You can also dictate how your soldiers level up, as they ask you from time to time if you want them to delve into a different skill set or art style.

Even if the game had a terrible story and cliched characters, the battle system would keep me crawling back. Battles are by far the best part of this game. While some will say that some boss battles can be "cheap" or "unfair," I'd argue that your characters also unlock plenty of abilities and special moves that are just as if not more cheap or unfair to the enemy (Blackout is ridiculously powerful, for example, and that's a move my unions ended up using frequently). In summary, fights can be nail-biting, because you are constantly reminded that you are fighting enemies that are just as skilled and able as you. Will you still scream at the game in frustration? Sometimes, yes. But I've personally also nearly broken things with excitement when a single decision or a stroke of luck turned the tide of battle. Also, I'll let it be known that I find games that are hard just to BE hard quite annoying and to be little to no fun. This is not a game that is consistently cheap or unfair. It can be extremely challenging, and you'll call BS on a fight from time to time, but with strategy, that same fight on your next try could be immensely rewarding and much simpler.

The Last Remnant is a refreshing game in a genre that is usually predictable. It has a gritty realism that is usually reserved for western RPGs. It also respects its characters. You'll find no little girls with parasols fighting in battle, nor will you have a guy insist on being shirtless while on the battlefield (seriously...whenever I see that, I think about how easy it'd be to take them out). The characters--while they can be quirky and humorous at times--are never walking cliches. Each woman or man has her or his own personality, back story, goals and motivations--and YOU get to decide whether or not to add them to your army and help them grow over time.

This game is a true gem. It is nothing less than a crime that a game of such originality is not mentioned in conversations of JRPGs more often. This is the JRPG that I hold every other JRPG up to--and until we get another game in this universe, I see no other game coming close. I cannot recommend this game enough.

Great game. It requires a bit of strategy and maybe some frustration with some bosses, but it is well worth it. Easily on my Top 5 list of games. Much better than the Xbox 360 version.

Excellent RPG.
The battle system takes a while to be mastered but, it's just awesome.

If you play the game without worring about secondary quests, rares and epic hidden events, you'll miss 80% of the game.

Wikia is your friend with this game !

I originally had (still do) this game for the Xbox360 but everytime I try to play through 'Nest of Eagles' the game freezes halfway through the fight. I really enjoyed this game, and I'm glad I have aother chance at it. Square has made a lot of mistakes these past few years but The Last Remnant still stands up as another unforgettable rpg that dove into a new world of mechanics and attitude.

The Last Remnant is a great JRPG, and while the Xbox version had some issues, they all seem to have been resolved in the PC version. Battle Rank (a leveling system that scales up enemy strength the higher your Battle Rank is) is a bit more balanced than it was in the Xbox version, so the penalty for grinding isn't as great. The framerate has been greatly improved, and you are now able to make unions entirely out of general units instead of having to hire the free generic soldiers to fill in gaps, which makes the game much more fun and interesting.

The story is well written overall, though I wouldn't say that it's the best point of the game. It's interesting, but what really makes the game shine is the combat and the sidequests. There are tons of sidequests to complete and guilds to visit all across the world and the rewards are all genearlly very useful and valuable, ranging from general units to recruit to components to unique weapons. The battle system itself may seem really confusing and complex at first, and then it may seem a bit basic and boring once you get through the first scene, but very quickly it expands and becomes much more exciting and interesting. It is honestly one of my favorite battle systems out of any RPG that I've played.

I'd definitely reccomend this game to anyone who is a fan of JRPGs and intricate battle systems. The game is a blast to play, it has a great soundtrack, and the atmosphere and visuals are amazing.

The Last Remnant. JRPG ala final fantasy buatan square enix yang diport untuk xbox360 dan PC windows. Sebelum Final Fantasy XIII dirilis untuk PC, mungkin The Last Remnant adalah satu-satunya JRPG dengan grafis modern di PC.

Cerita (7/10)
Biarpun mungkin terlihat sederhana, namun cerita TLR sebenarnya cukup rumit bila kita memainkan semua side quest yang diberikan. Seperti asal usul suatu tempat dan runtuhnya kerajaan kuno. Semuanya diberikan sepotong-sepotong. Kalau kita hanya mengikuti alur cerita mungkin akan terasa banyak lubang di cerita ini.

Gameplay (8/10)
Gameplay TLR sangat unik.

Grafis (4/10)
SIsi grafis cukup menyedihkan. Dunia dalam TLR sebenarnya sangat indah dan detail, sayang sekali penggunaan Unreal Engine tidak maksimal. Hal paling menyedihkan adalah saat pindah scene ada jeda 2-3 detik untuk loading texture. Sangat menyedihkan.........

Do you like RPGs? If yes proceed to the next question.
Do you like grinding? If no you can stop here, you might need some patience and time to play this game.

If you are expecting a A-RPG, do not be fooled this game is not that.

Last remnant is a fantastic JRPG with a novel combat system that feels like a breeze of fresh air in this game industry where every game last 5 hours and is full of cinematics (there are plenty of cinematics in TLR do not fear). The combat system feels random at times until you learn how the system works, problem is this is going to take at least 50h and you are not going to have a grasp of all the things you can actually do. The story is alright, considering the main character is less charismatic than a potato and he is annoying as hell, but a mysterious and charismatic antagonist pays off.

- Cheap.
- Loads of content and beautiful areas.
- Really nice visuals.
- AoE synergies and group building.
- Difficulty through the roof, that makes you build up some self confidence when you get to kill THAT ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ MONS-- er.
- ♥♥♥♥ loads of upgrades to weapons and skills.
- Customization of your units and characters make the game an experience every time you play it.

- Main character annoying as hell.
- Side quests blocking the full content of the game, especially in some cases when you needed to do a quest from Disc 1 in order to go into a new zone (e.g. The ancient runes.)
- Guild rewards need you to kill some random monster that has a 0.01% spawn ratio.
- Almost mandatory to follow a guide during your first playthrough.

Veredict: 7 out of 10.

♥♥♥♥ poor game, right from the start after you get you make your own group you are joined by the AI to help you but you are forced to battle with other thing is that they all gank you and your computer-controlled ally does not give a ♥♥♥♥ about you. It just wants you to die slowly while it turns its back on you. This is completely unavoidable other then by chance the enemy groups ignore you and go after the other computer controlled ally groups. So your only option is "Heal me" while you get beaten to death....right near the start of the game...what the hell is this?
Ive done pretty much everything up to that (even though its almost nothing you can do) except painfuly grind on the trash enemies in a small cave because the combat is sooo sllooowww when all you do is press one button, only because there are 3 other ally groups with you which you cant control so you have to wait for them to attack 12 times or so before you can press 1 button to heal yourself and wait another 2 mins....AND THIS IS ON TURBO MODE...SUCH JOY! *facepalm*

This really feels like it can be a fun game if it didn't punish you for actually enjoying the combat by punishing grinding and if it wasn't so obtuse. I just got bored of it after a while because of that.

Oh dear god. I thought RPG games on PC were supposed to have interaction, where you felt like you were actually playing the game and had some control over events. Not this game. It's a Japanese style RPG, which means lots of waffle and pretty graphics, but minimal input from the player. If I really wanted this kind of thing, I'd put a DVD on, rather than this. If you like turn-based battles, nice animation, and loooooooooooooong cut-scenes that you can't skip, please buy this game. Otherwise, don't.

Nothing like FF lets get that out of the way.

This is the most backwards game i have ever played if you lvl to fast you will lose alot of the chars for your teams and will also make the bosses almost unkillable sice the bosses go off your rank they will out power you in a heartbeat.

One big complain i had with this game was the char animations they are horrid during cutscenes.

I think i have 100 hours or so and it does have a game plus option which is good i oaid 3.00 for it and was worth every penny though not much more.

Graphics 4/5
Sound 5/5 (music score was great)
Gameplay 3/5 ( far to much randomness than i like you will see)

The gameplay in Remnant is turn based... Infact, I kinda like the gameplay since it has a few things that normally turn based RPG's don't have.

However the story and characters kills the game. You play as the main charecter Rush who's trying to get his kidnapped syster back from some unknown an♥♥♥♥♥ that kidnapped her. I don't have any problem whit this... Infact, this is a good setup for a deeper story. The only problem is that the story takes every chance to ♥♥♥♥ on it self and make you not like the game. So what is it that makes me not like this game? Well, it's rather simple. The main charecter losses his system, two armys fight each other... The king of one army decids to help Rush in his search for his system, becuase... Well, he's just doing it. Then we also have the main charecter who feels like everything should happen instantly. When the King of said army allows him to stay in his casstle then the first thing he says is "I'm not tired, I want to go after whoever kidnapped my system". I'm just happy that I got this in a Bundle since otherwise I'd be disspointet in both myself for spending money on this crap and the developers whom made the game.
