Kerbal Space Program patch 1.1.1 is now available!

Hello everyone!

The 1.1.1 patch is now available! This patch will bring high priority fixes to the game. Although last week’s release of 1.1 went smoothly, there were still a few bugs left to fix. Considering we updated the game’s engine we’re all very pleased with the overall state of the game. Those of you who were around for the switch from Unity 3 to Unity 4 in version 0.18.4 will certainly remember how much impact changing the game engine can have on the game’s stability.

Check out the full changelog on our forums. The update should start downloading through your steam client automatically soon™.

Om detta spel

In KSP you must build a space-worthy craft, capable of flying its crew out into space without killing them. At your disposal is a collection of parts, which must be assembled to create a functional ship. Each part has its own function and will affect the way a ship flies (or doesn't). So strap yourself in, and get ready to try some Rocket Science!

The game offers three gameplay modes: Sandbox, in which you are free to build anything you can think of; Science Mode, which lets you perform Scientific experiments to advance the knowledge of Kerbalkind and further the available technology; and Career Mode, in which you must manage every aspect of your Space Program, including administration strategies, Crew Management, Reputation, as well as taking up Contracts to earn Funds and upgrade your Space Center Facilities (or repair them).

Add to this the ability to capture asteroids (a feature done in collaboration with NASA), Mining for resources out across the furthest reaches of the Solar System, Constructing Bases and Space Stations in and around other worlds; plus literally thousands of mods from a huge active modding community, all add up into the award-winning game that has taken the space sim genre by storm.

Key Features

  • The Vehicle Assembly Building and the Space Plane Hangar allows players to build spacecraft out of any imaginable combination of parts.
  • Fully-fledged, Physics-based Space Flight Simulation ensures everything will fly (and crash) as it should.
  • Take your Kerbal crew out of the ship and do Extra Vehicular Activities.
  • Fly out to Moons and other Planets.
  • Procedural Terrain delivers detailed terrain at a vast scale. The Kerbal Planet is 600km in radius!
  • Mod-enabled, allows players to create new content and modify the game.
  • Ship systems. Keep an eye out for engine temperatures and fuel levels, and try not to explode.
  • Build ships with multiple stages, and jettison parts away as they burn out.
  • Full control over the ship’s setup allows for complex ships and advanced functionality.
  • Dock spacecraft together to build Space Stations, Massive Starships, or even surface bases on other worlds.
  • Manage your crewmembers, hire them, and send them out into space and make them into heroes.
  • Research and Develop new technologies to advance your Space Program.
  • Take on Missions to attract interest in your Space Program.
  • Discover new worlds and expand the scientific knowledge of Kerbalkind.
  • Extract valuable resources from all over the solar system.
  • And a whole lot more!

I used to love this game and poored hours into building bases on the mun. But bugs have started to increase after 1.0 and ever every update, mods become useless and you have to wait until the creators update their mods. And that can cause you to restart you entire game. I cant even count the times i had to redo my playthrough because my lunar base was suddenly unplayable.

Personaly i have a bug where the terrain textures stretch out and makes the planets look like absolute crap. I had this bug with both AMD and Nvidia cards and different windows versions and processors. Did not have this problems before 1.0.

Issues like this get very little to no attention and Squad seems to be focusing their updates on the wrong things and with every update the game gets a little bit more worse.

It used to be the best game on Steam but there are issues and bugs here that would even make Bethesda think twice of releasing the game.

Have had a lot off fun playing Kerbal Space Program more than what I had anticipated. A clever little game, with charming graphics, a easy to grasp tutorial, clean rocket/ship building and the choice of sandbox and career is a huge plus. Also the community is fantastic by far the most supportive and informative on steam in my opinion. May be hard to grasp for young kids but I know I would of loved this game even tho I'm sure I would of not understood half of it. Which also makes it a great basic learning tool to!

Only thing I can think of which is a pain is in the career mode if you run out of money, reputation it's almost impossible to recover making me start a career mode again.

Overall brilliant buy bit will say it's abit steep for £30 maybe wait for a reduction. However I wouldn't of minded paying the extra for the fun I have had playing

I bought Kerbal when it went on sale right before they got to version 0.23 for the grand price of $7. Getting through the bugs to the 0.90 beta release to full release was worth it, and I've put a ton of time into it. With the 1.1 update, the save game files are able to transfer from update to update, so no restarting from the beginning for me anymore. Squad has hired some of the modders to implement their ideas to the game as well. I highly recommend the game if you're on the fence.

Kerbal Space Program is an amazing game. It is difficult if you don't know what you are doing (I didn't see the tutorials the first time I played), but it gets much better as you go along. When you first get in orbit, land on Mun (the closest moon to Kerbin (the planet you are in)), or even fly from your runway to the runway on the nearby island with the ruined flight operations center (even if most of oyur plane falls apart because [I am] incompetentat aeronautical engineering), it is an amazing feeling. Also, when you unlock new parts for your space ships (and air planes), and when you use them for awesome uses, it is... also feels awesome. Well, overall, I give this game... a five out of five stars. Get the joke? Stars?

DO MATH Or DON'T BOTHER the video game.

This is the kind of game that makes you want to use Math, just so you can actually progress.
It does some pretty great rocket and space mechanics that allow your custom rockets to achieve orbit.
I would say it's really a crash course teaching tool in Rocket mechanics.

But, don't be fooled, this is very time consuming and hard game. If you want to get to some alein planets, you better brush up on your basic math skills, because slapping more boosters on your rocket isn't good enough.

You can launch a rocket without math, you can eject a multi-stage command module without math, but don't expect to get to the moon and back without some rudimentary simplified Rocket-science. I found myself calculating liquid rockets with a 15:1 Newtons of Thrust to Tonnage ratio just so I can fly-by the Mun.

The worst thing about this game is the science grind is brutal, because you can't farm science like you can farm wheat in minecraft. Getting Science can only be done by doing unique events and things for a several times, after that it's exploration and observation, and events that get you the science WHICH YOU NEED IN ORDER TO PROGRESS DOWN THE SKILL TREE.

Other than that pretty unique game.
So if you are more into the Immersion of being an astronaut get Space Engineers, if you are more into orbits, fuel per tonnage ratios, and Prograde and Retrograde motions, Kerbal Space Program is for you.

Biggest Cons:
-You need Science which means you have to be super Efficient and Willing to do basic Math to progress.
-The Aerodynamic model is kind of half-complete. Airplanes that would cause TONS and TONS of drag are ideal, because there is no real drag mechanics. So build a cube bipolar Biplane. or a box of a rocket because there is no drag to make the game as hard.
-Aerodynamics only matter in three ways. Re-Entry into a thick atmosphere, parachutes, and heat mechanics.
-The Game has a tendency to crash hard and randomly when placing certain things on the winglets in the Vehicle Assemble Lab, might be a computer issue though.

Flat out one of the best games ever made.

Squad has managed to creat an experience that merges the goofy fun of being a 5 year budding engineer playing NASA with legos in the living room, and a literal crash course in physics and engineering. Be careful; between your first hilarious flailing attempts to reach orbit, that glorious lopsided assembly of parts that somehow manages to land mostly intact on Duna, and that meticulously planned gravitational slingshot maneuver sending a 500 ton astroid-turned-space-station on a mission to Jool, you might accidently learn something.

The huge library of mods only expands the fun. Looking for challenge and realism? Snag one of several mods adding life support requirements, or communications networks. Want more exploration? There are mods adding things like satallite mapping, orbital surveys, and additional ground-based experiments to carry out. Want to colonize space, build massive ships in orbital drydocks, or construct motorized contraptions that stomp their way across alien worlds? There are mods for that, too.

Squad isn't content to let the moders do all the work, either. The team is constantly working to improve and expand the game, and every update brings new parts, a more stable and refined experience, or otherwise enriches the kerbal's universe.

In short, this is a must-play for anyone who fondly remembers their legos, and those who never outgrew them.

26.8 Hours mark the time i've spent on this game
On steam.
________________________________________________________________________________

Off steam, you can assume that i've over a few hundred, and every single one of those hours was spent putting love, effort, and thought into the craft i made so i could accomplish a simple little goal i would set for myself

-Go to another Planet
-Achieve Orbit!
-Rendezvous with another orbitting vessel.

You see, things like that which seem so apparently simple become something so vastly entertaining and interesting to perform. This game doesn't even have to try to make you feel like a mastermind when you pull it off.
All of this has been done on Sandbox mode. If you're the more strategic type, "Squad"'s got you covered.
Just go play Career or Science mode. It keeps your mind running and forces you to keep a hand in your pocket too (Otherwise you'll go broke faster than sh*t.)

But for the people who want to enjoy this game for it's marvelous sights and fun physics?
Go ahead. This game is god's way of thanking you for being on this planet.

Because that is certainly what this game feels like.
Go do your spacey self a favor and purchase this!

I played this game with my son, now he wants to be an austronaunt.
10/10

Seriously, once upon a time if my son would have asked me "Dad, how did people land on the moon" I wouldn't know what to tell him. But today, when my son asked me that question (awww yis!), I simply said -- "I'll show you how", and we fired up the game. I was able, with the help of KSP, to show my son the beauty of trial and error, the difficulty of space travel and just how vast and empty space is, and how small we are. I let him built it himself, parachutes on a moon lander, backwards engines and everything. I remember his look of disbeleif and surprise as our first rocket exploded, the look of awe as we made orbit, his wide eyed gaze as we made our trajectory to the moon and he could actually see just how small earth is and how far we are from the moon. I remember his enthusiasm as we were about to touch down on the moon and we deployed his parachutes. Which didn't work. We crashed. Hard. After the inital shock was over, my son asked in surprise: "Dad why don't parachutes work on the moon?".

Oh man, thank you KSP. Thank you for making science fun!

2. Kerbals dont like EVA in atmosphere flight

3. Rockets tend to explode.

5. Kerbal cannot fly or have parachute.

6. Jetpack is dangerous suicide tool.

7. Chocolate help with depression and mental break downs caused by frustration

8. Water will not save you when you falling from 10k without parachute.

9. Never forget install landing gear.

People always talk about making games that are both fun and educational, lets be honest, most fail for one reason or another, not Kerbal! Kerbal space program, Coming in I didn't even understand how much I didn't know about orbital mechanics! But Kerbal space program unravels these secrets in a paced and comprehensive order and most importantly, its fun while doing it.
Everything from the designing the rocket to performing the actual mission, you don't get near space the first few tries but you feel yourself improving every time, and every stage feels awe inspiring. My first Apollo style moon landing was a highlight to my summer for the sense of acomplishment it entailed.
Even faliure can be fun, run out of fuel to early? mess up your design and realize after you make it to Duna?(mars), figure out what parts of the mission are salvageable, what science can still be performed. My first mission to Duna ran out of fuel before making into orbit but I was able to use the rotation control rockets to alter my path just enough to fling around its moon and slam into Dunas thin atmosphere to slow myself down. It's that kind of clever problem solving that brings the most satisfaction sometimes.

This game is fantastic, that is all I can say, it can be a little bit glitchy sometimes but it isn't unbearable. Sandbox mode is great and lets you build whatever you want. I've always liked sandbox games, especially this space game!

Bit of a learning curve, I now am going to try and build things in orbit. Haven't got to the moon yet, but put a satellite and a big space station core into orbit.

95/100

This game is very unique and extremely fun. It is very challenging, but also extremely satisfying when you accomplish something. In addition, it quite expands your knowledge about physics.

There is no other game like this, but in some ways it bears similarities to Dwarf Fortress - both games have sharp learning curve, are extremely difficult beyond the very basics (albeit KSP is pretty forgiving) and the lesson you learn from them is that losing is fun.

KSP simulates physics very well, it includes objects burning when reentering atmosphere, different gravity on various bodies, and the whole solar system is actually simulated (planets and asteroids orbiting Sun, moons orbiting planets), while the game is a sandbox allowing you to do whatever you want. Do you want to fly to the Moon? Sure. Do you want to do research on an asteroid? Sure. Do you want to take that asteroid down to Earth? Sure! (But it's not gonna be easy!)

Oh, and you do actually learn some physics in the game. You have to. This, however, lets you understand space exploration and why is it so difficult and takes so much time. After all, in KSP you get to do a lot of stuff yourself!

The game doesn't have any drawbacks either. Perhaps some rare bugs or crashes, but very few. Other than that, the game is flawless.

It's not just the best space game. It's actually one of the best games ever made. I recommend it to literally everyone. Download a demo to try it out first and fly to the Moon.

This is a great game. It does have a steep learning curve, but it is enjoyable at every step, even with failures you encounter. Those failures make it so much more satisfying when you do succeed in constructing your first successful craft. It is definitely worth the price(and even better if you can get it on discount like I did at 40% off!). It will definitely make you think more creatively(which is has for me at least). Give it a try, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

There's just something special about getting a rocket to a far off planet and having it return safely home.

Simply floating in the vast emptiness of space on your way TOO a planet, or even just safely oribiting around the Mun is also extremely satisfying, it makes you really understand just how small we are in the seemingly eternal vast landscape of outer space.

Pick this one up if you like building things, failure, rockets, spaaaace, and exploration.

After playing this game for some time i kind of feel obliged to give a review.

Kerbal Space Program, or short "KSP" starts you off with a space center. Mange it, build up your own space program. Of course you get to crash fly your ships.

I mainly play the "Sandbox mode". Here you don't have any restrictions on what (not) to do.

In your space center you have two main buildings for building ships. The Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) and the Space Plane Hangar (SPH).
The SPH mainly is for planes and SSTOS, the VAB for rockets.
You start your ship simple, command pod, fuel tank, engine. Maybe a parachute (optional). After that you add what you think to be neccessary. This includes, but is not limited to, antennas, batteries, solar panels, landing gear, heatshields, wheels, wings. Make sure not to forget anything, you might get stuck in space.

After building your ship, the fun really starts. You get to go to space! Go you!
Just to realise that going up is not enough. Start over.
Go sideways.
Run out of fuel.
Start over.
Repeat. Until you get to orbit.
By now you have probably realised that your knowledge might not be enough, so start looking up tutorials. Try to recreate them and reacht the Moon (Mun in KSP).
