The game chronicles the never-ending battle between valiant heroes and the destructive powers of Chaos harnessed by the Black Ring, a cult of enduring evil. You play the role of the prophesised Chosen One who under the guidance of the wizard Zandalor must unite the seven races of Rivellon so that you may become the Divine One and stop the birth of the Lord of Chaos.

This new re-mastered version offers support for Windows 7 and higher resolutions.

This isn’t a review. I’m only writing this because I want to say that I was having a lot of fun with this game. It is really a meaningful RPG filled with excellent ideas mixed with a good story and nice music. What else would we need? The problem is: this game gives you so much freedom (or maybe it is just poorly designed) that you can easily break your quests, even the important ones related to the main story. You can make such a mess that the game turns itself unbeatable. I broke a lot of quests because I’ve done things that ruined them. After that, I sought in the web trying to discover why such quests were broken, then I found these must-read-advices:

• Don't enter Commander Ralph's room. He'll kick you out and lock the door breaking a quest. A big one!
• Don't use the key for the Gardens on the Graveyard first. It causes a break by not then working for the Gardens!
• Don't open any one of the four tombs in the holy weapon secret room. It breaks a very hard to complete quest!
• Don't kill the assassin before finding the clues (corpses) at the burning wagon and the secret hideaway there; you'll bust the quest!
• Don't get the Sword from the Stone and then leave the Dark woods, when you return almost every living thing, including the elves will be dead!
• Don't hit the gong before finishing all your open quests, you won't be able to go back after that!

Please, don’t take me wrong, I like old school RPGs, I’ve played lots of old titles since the SNES, but I never got a game so easily breakable as this one.

An early 2000's RPG, Divine Divinity appears to be trying to capture the success of the Diablo games. As a top-down action roleplaying game it is along the same lines as Diablo; However, it seems to have a more comprehensive conversation system in place, allowing for branched conversation trees. You can also develop your character according to your own personal play style regardless of the class you choose. This is actually not a concept found in many earlier RPG's, which gives Divine Divinity an added layer of appeal. All in All I thought it was fairly well done. It is an older game, so the visuals are not what you have probably come to expect, but the game still has charm and is still interesting and has a well thought out storyline. The background ambience is a nice touch, as is the changing music depending on where you go. I think if you are a fan of old school RPG's you will like Divine Divinity. Good choice for the RPG fan out there.

Well written, and vivid, characters give an additional spunk to a very good story portrayed in the game. This is complemented by a variaty of side quests, each rewarding in it's own way. Yes, even washing the dishes!

Impact of the class choice is mostly reflected in a special move your character can perform. Other than that, there are no restrictions to learnable skills. This very freedom may be impairing for the newcomers to the genre. Namely, investing in utility skills, very early on, could make the combat tiring and the game less enjoyable. That said, you are highly likely to focus on developing your playstyle during the early part of the game. Once you are confident in your platsyle, you will find yourself exploring the game world and adventuring by your own compass. This, in itself, changes the feel of the game from interesting to compelling.

The music is rather good and helps create an immersive atmosphere. It is a shame that characters with strong local influence are not voiced, for it could have provided the game with an edge. While I did experience a couple of sound effect bugs, restarting the game solved them.
I found the graphics satisfactory but couldn't shake the feeling that more could have been invested into visual effects of spells.

Dig through game's local content to find the manual, there is no link from library :(

I earnestly recommend this game.

As someone who doesn't really go out of my way to try new games, especially if I'm under the misconception that I'll be frustrated by it, I'm so, so, SO happy I tried out this game. The music is great, the sound effects just pop out at you, and though I occasionally get a weird static sound because I'm on Windows 7, that one little thing doesn't keep the game from running great on my trash laptop. Loot is one of my favorite things in RPGs, and it is freaking glorious in this game, and you can get skills like enchanting, identifying, and repair that makes it so much more fun and rewarding. Speaking of skills, if you were perhaps a bit more "casual", as in you haven't played older RPGs, and feel intimidated by this, or maybe you like games like Skyrim that let you use any weapon and use magic as a big buff axe-wielding barbarian, this game is for you - any class can use any skill - a pickpocketing wizard, a lightning-slinging warrior, a thief in heavy plate. It's easy to pick up, and ridonculous amounts of fun to master.

I often find myself missing Divine Divinity's inventory system and object-interactions in a lot of the more modern games in this genre.

Some have problems running it on never operating systems, but there are fixes for most on the forum.
Then there are the countless bugs, a few gamebreaking, but you'll learn about them soon enough.

That aside, it's a pretty damn swell game. Not too serious but also not too goofy, and yet it is brutal and lets you fail if you don't pay attention.
