- Global chat, Factions, parties - integrated directly into the core UI
- Crafting system - added due to player demands

Update #229 - Optional Deploy Arm

We've got another big update for you this week. A huge batch of new content is on the way, so we need to get some of these changes out there for testing before the big reveal next month. A good portion of this patch will also be aimed at improving the new player experience.

We've renamed many of our game modes this patch. Skirmish is now Versus, while Survival mode will now be known as Warzone. Feedback on the forums generally agreed that Ranked and Unranked were misleading names, so we've renamed those to Skills and Unlimited respectively. The descriptions for all of these queues have been updated as well.

Your feedback on the forums is always important to us, even when we don't respond right away. Since so many of you have asked for it, we've added a setting in General -> Gameplay for "Deploy Arm Enabled". This will be on by default, since it's intended for advanced users rather than new players. You can change this setting at any time, even during a multiplayer match. Turning the deploy arm off will prevent your units from being automatically deployed. They'll be stored in the structure they were built at and can be picked up by AirMechs above the structure. This brings back a popular strategy of hiding units in queue, but it can be countered by neutralizing the outpost they're queued at.

General Updates:
  • added an option to disable the deploy arm and manually pick up units from structures
  • renamed some game modes and updated Play menu with new tooltips
  • added Iron Hand dialog to existing Warzone maps
  • added difficulty settings with reward modifiers to Warzone
  • added title system for Leaderboard champions
  • improved Heal Nova animation for Osprey
  • default to Weekly instead of Factions when opening the Leaderboards UI
  • moved the Quests button to the bottom of the main menu
  • renamed Skills tab to Blueprints
  • renamed Promos button to News
  • tweaks to the endgame victory medal
  • added some variation to Striker sword audio
  • set a limit for credit cap messages to reduce spam
  • added pilot icons for in-game messages
  • added icons for trials in the pregame lobby

Bug Fixes:
  • fixes for AirMech animation bugs
  • fix for the Link command on units with a deploy animation delay
  • fix for melee units not attacking enemy fortress when no capture targets are available
  • fixed a bug with flier separation not applying to neutral units
  • fix for shadow rendering when zooming in
  • fixed some issues with shadow rendering on oversized props
  • fixed a bug that allowed the AI to build Void units
  • fix for showing Quests button when not on the main menu
  • fixed an issue where an abducted Bot Spawner would produce a creep while on an enemy socket
  • fixed item icons not showing on Market purchase dialog
  • fix for automatically terminating units in Warzone
  • fixed alignment of promos when launched from the News button
  • fixed picking up CTF cores over the fortress
  • fixed an issue with pickup indicator not displaying for CTF cores

Map Editor Updates/Fixes:
  • maps will now save automatically in the event of a disconnect, use recoverLast to reload
  • added radio buttons for Edging, Elevation, and Paint Mat buttons
  • rearranged the terrain panel
  • add credit value for Safebox and Vaultbox when pre-placed
  • fixed broken Combos menu
  • fix for Roller not unlatching when spawned from an elevator
  • fixed an issue where editing the position field would not correctly move a game location
  • fix for skybox selection overwriting pregame timer
  • fix for game messages being displayed while editing
  • fix for neutral Necro reviving units
  • fix for scripted game messages not appearing in player-made maps

Balance Changes:
  • Seeker HP decreased from 1250 to 950
  • Striker guns piercing increased from 55 to 60

Update #228 - Editor Updates and PvE Work

It's been awhile since our last update. A lot of changes have been made that focus on PvE and story content. Most of that work is not yet ready for release, but you'll still notice some small things here and there. New promos, dialogs, and in-game messages may hint at some of the things to come. Neutral units have been claimed by an unknown force, but they haven't revealed themselves just yet.

Since we're working on new maps focused on PvE, we needed to make some more improvements to the Map Editor to support some more advanced scripting. Many new conditions and actions were added, and we can't wait to see what kind of custom maps you'll build with them. We're also going to enable scripts to run on any game mode, so you don't have to set the map to Custom. Some features requested on the forums have made their way into the Editor, such as a facing/rotation property for spawned units, box select will now filter its selection with an option to select everything by holding Shift, confirm dialogs for New and Publish options, and new UI for publishing maps. Give it a try and let us know if you run into any issues or have suggestions for Map Editor features.

General Updates:
- new recurring PvP Quests in the Daily section
- new textures for some neutral units
- improvements to in-game status messages
- improved collision data for tall Canyon tiles
- increased rewards for Last Stand
- increased Upkeep from Survival structures in multiplayer matches
- added a new victory dialog at the end of a match
- the suggested content dialog will only show on defeat

Map Editor Updates/Fixes:
- added a Confirm dialog for New and Publish options
- updated prop icons
- the box select tool will filter selections again, hold Shift to select everything
- map scripts will now run on all game modes
- added a dialog for publishing maps
- making custom maps respect capitalization in the load map window and for uploaded maps
- added support for placing PowerUps and prop Combos
- added support for importing scripts from another locally saved map
- added support for specifying the maximum flying height of the Sample Map
- added a script event for AirMechs entering a location
- added a script condition to compare the current energy of an AirMech
- added a script condition to compare the current health of an AirMech
- added a script command to initiating an event for each unit in a location
- added a script command for disabling energy regen
- added a script command for disabling health regen
- added a script command for respawning an AirMech
- added support for event and variable parameters in the move location to unit script
- added a facing/rotation property to the unit spawn script command
- Bombs no longer require NavMesh to be spawned from scripting
- fixed the script conditions for unit type and team
- fixed the location option not saving in the AirMech condition
- fixed the script condition for units remaining
- fixed the script condition for AirMech evaluation
- fix for units getting stuck when spawned from elevators
- fixed some issues with editing the team option in scripting
- fixed an issue with player locations not being saved

Bug Fixes:
- fix for displayed ping values showing incorrectly
- fix for Sonya and Dinger radar spinning animations
- fix for Boomer capturing outposts
- fixed a bug that could cause players to be stuck in the Basecamp tutorial
- fixed a crash that could occur when loading a map
- fixed an audio related crash
- fixed tooltips for NoColor and gold plated items
- fixed a bug that caused the suggested content dialog to be misaligned
- fixed a bug with Gundanium Alloy appearing unlocalized
- fix for some artillery units appearing un-deployed

Balance Changes:
- Shooter no longer fires at air targets

Steam 限定提供

Two Portal themed items are now available to all Steam players:

Companion Cube - Found in the ruins of a long abandoned facility, there's something about this utilitarian cube that compels you to keep it at your side. It follows your AirMech in battle acting as a faithful companion Pet until the end! Can be equipped in a Flair slot on any AirMech.

Sentry Turret - Blueprints for this turret were found in a large underground facility in use before the War. They seem to have been designed for use against humans, so this version is equipped with armor piercing rounds to make it more viable against the robot armies used in battle today. They are light and cheap, only effective against weaker units, but you can build a lot quickly to make them useful.

one day i saw this game called Airmech. it looked awesome as ♥♥♥♥. being able to turn from a flying saucer to a damn Gundam looked ♥♥♥♥ing awesome, so i downloaded the game.

after patiently waiting for the game to download and install, i launched the game, only to find out it launched a browser window instead of a .exe file.

then again, that was like 2 or so years ago. i don't know if i'm gonna recommend it or not. well, more players in a game is always a good thing, right?

Before you decide to blindly criticize my review keep in mind I have 377.1 hours invested into this game.

Ah Airmech, where do I begin? I used to absolutely love this game. I first heard about it when Huskystarcraft played it on his channel. Yea, Huskystarcraft. This was a loooooooooooooong ♥♥♥ time ago. Back then I didn't have a PC that could even run the game, so I just watched gameplay of it. Eventually, I realized the sad truth that I just wouldn't be able to play this game, so I gave up. A couple years later I bought a new PC cuz my old one broke down, and I made my steam account. It was then that I realized that Airmech was on Steam and that it was free to play. I played the hell out of this game, and almost became completely obsessed with it.

The game had everything I could ever want out of it. Competitive PvP, unique gameplay, people throwing around premium currency like they don't even care, and most importantly, customization. You could choose your airmechs, pilots, units, items, upgrades, and you could even change around the core stats of the airmech with parts.

To me, the parts system seemed absolutely perfect. Most parts had different tiers, ranging from mk1 to mk4. Higher tiers weren't stronger than the lower ones, they just modified your stats more. If you did it right you could almost completely change the playstyle of your airmech. You could be anywhere from a slow tanking beast, to an agile glass cannon.

The free to play model was spot on too. Most of the essentials were bought with credits. Credits being the main f2p currency. The few non-free essentials were mostly parts, items, and pilots. Most of them were relatively cheap and could easily be earned by any f2p player like myself with just some well accumulated active playtime. The expensive stuff was the cosmetic stuff. Things like skins for your airmech and fancy pets and decals.

That's not to say that you didn't get much for paying. Aside from awesome skins and decals, you could also purchase units called 'ultimates.' The were obscenely strong units that were ridiculously OP and not allowed in regular PvP play. You could use them to shred your way through ruthless AIs, destroy survival mode, and have good fun with your friends in custom matches.

But everything changed that one faithful day...
The devs came out with an update that pretty much ruined everything I discussed in this review.

The update split PvP into two different modes. One where parts were not allowed, and one where they were allowed...along with any ultimate units, pilots, or parts. To make things even worse, parts became a direct upgrade to your airmech and higher tiers of parts were direct upgrades. Furthermore, Higher tier parts could only be obtained from farming or trading with other players on the player market for premium currency. Players were left with a terrible choice, play a watered down version of the game for free, or farm for hours upon hours only to be dominated anyway by ultimate units.

RIP balance, RIP f2p, RIP customization

And this isn't even the end of it. Remember how I mentioned "unique gameplay" as one the game's good traits? Well ever since that update the game slowly began to veering towards being just another MOBA. The game slowly stared to steer away from the RTS aspect of it's formerly great concept. Now the game mostly mostly favors an autobuild system AKA creeps or minions.

RIP unique gameplay

For me, that was the dagger to the heart for this game. Don't waste your time. This game has been in beta for years and is shrinking more that it seems to be growing. Just don't bother.

tl;dr Used to be great. Amazing even. But then, the p2w nation attacked...

A tower defense with transforming mechs. Completly awesome! - 9/10
AirMech is a tower defense game, but not in the way you may be thinking. In AirMech, your using troops, not towers. Troops can be ranging from infantry to giant tanks. The greatest part about this feature of the game is the loadout system, where you can pick what troops you will bring into battle. You can defend too, as a giant transforming robot. In 3d person view, you control where you can go, what areas to control, and what battles to fight. Simply an amazing game to play, with a very easy to use multiplayer system, would rate 9/10!

Let's just start this off with one simple statement: This game is a joke.

Now, although this game does have a good amount of content and can be replayed (Though only if you're with a few friends and can find some fun tactics to try) somewhat for at least 50 or 60 hours. After that and you're probably going to want to invest in their "VIP system..." Which just seems to be ever so slowly growing so that this game is less and less of a free to play and more of a, "Free to try some of the content." game.

I started playing this game quite some time ago, and although I can't say I'm the most experienced player, I have had the chance of seeing this game grow, change, and (d)evolve. It started as a rather unique game with a good basis and a lot of potential. Updates rolled through occasionally bringing new content, maps, features, etc. and the community grew rather well. And much like many games, everything changed when the fire nation attacked when development seemed to slow to a halt. Now the game was much more cosmetic driven and it seemed to simply be held together by a few regular players, the newbies that flowed in at a constant rate, and the seasonal items- which was really the only "content" added.

From here the game shifted... as I said, from a nice game that some people would play and toss, having had their fun, and others would find much joy into something much worse. It became a pay-gate game. Slowly features left, like the market listings and ability to sell your oh so valuable loot for a few measly diamonds (The in-game common currency that has a oh so familiar real world transaction rate) or market chats, etc.. There were levels of VIP too, bronze, silver, gold, and diamond. Obviously paying more meant you got a better rank (Going up as appeared), allowing you to gain wonderful bonuses, like increased funds from games, more experience, and access to useful features like the market.

So where does this leave us? Well, ever so intelligent me gave in after putting what felt like many, many hours into the game and having a lot of fun, though the magic was lost and I was losing interest, I decided I would put down my fifteen dollars during the winter sale and get silver VIP and unlock these cool features. Originally I was on the fence, but upon seeing that not only would I get diamonds, market chat, market listings, better plots (A cheap gimmick that deserves to be in a mobile game, though that's not what I'm here to discuss.) among other things, and the cherry on top, the tipping point for my decision, an incredible all access map editor and creator. So I slapped my money down and felt good about my purchase.

I worked on and off on multiple maps, finally ending up with one super map that I intended to be incredible. A map that would rival any other map that had been created by devs or fans in size and quality... With this new dream map in mind I set off to create it, working as much as possible, when time allowed. During this game I noticed more and more things shift towards this "VIP" experience and saw more and more things fall off the "F2P" model.

And here we are, as of writing this, I logged into Airmech fully excited to work on my map now that school finals were over and I could return to my glorious map that was nearing completion. I clicked towards the map make, paused deciding first to check the store as I noticed an update had released recently changing and adding some things. Nothing new, not at least in the real content section. Nothing that added gameplay value or made me want to terribly come back. But none the less I checked and curiously noticed that there was a plot item for map creation (That I had already purchased) to my surprise and it said I needed Diamond VIP for access. Concerned I navigated over to the map creation section and bam it was gone. The only thing I cared about in this utterly trash game that the devs seem to be driving into the ground for the sole goal of making money, no matter how much it screws their fanbase (Who has already payed for this game, though they- I - Probably shouldn't have.) over.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't expect anything out of this game. Don't pay money unless you are 100%, absolutely, without a doubt, convinced that you will be playing this game for ages, putting down hours on hours consistently. Make sure you are willing to pay for diamond VIP and that you are willing to have everything you already payed for taken away at a moments notice. If not, then sure play the game but keep in mind what I have said and you'll do find. That's all then, it's a mediocre game with failed potential and a dying fan base and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ developers.

-----------------------------------
Note: if you do intend to respond to this, please do the follwing.

1. Make sure you have put at least 50-60+ hours into the game, have played all airmechs, all gamemodes, bought VIP, and interacted with the community.
2. Do it respectfully, don't get upset because you are a diehard fan for this game (Or ignorant player who has just recently gotten into it and is still under the "New Game Syndrom")
3. Make sure you have actually read what I've said... It may sound stupid but, really. READ IT OR DONT REPLY
4. Have a good day'

Almost forgot to mention... It is still better than Archeblade.

AirMech is a free to play action RTS hybrid game. It is a cross-platform muliplayer PVP and Coop game. You control a transformable mecha for ground and air combat. It worked, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok.

Try it, maybe you will like it.

Pro: Good graphics, interesting combination of RTS and RPG, plenty of upgrades and still plenty of players playing.

Con: Not much to do aside from battle with other players/comps and gear grind. Some storyline but not much. No openworldness, you are stuck in that 'arena.'

Summary: Fun game to kill some time w/, interesting combo of RTS and RPG, but most just a gear grind.

It would not hurt to play if you like "Herzog Zwei". :)
