Frequently Asked Questions
What is Talisman?
Imagine Monopoly with Dragons! Instead of moving around a board purchasing properties and making your opponents bankrupt, you’re moving around the board building up your character’s strength and magic power by battling monsters, finding treasures, completing quests and trying to be the first player to reach the centre space – the Crown of Command.

How is Talisman: Digital Edition different to Talisman: Prologue?
Talisman: Prologue is a single-player only game in which you tried to complete a series of challenges using the rules of Talisman. Talisman: Digital Edition is the full board game experience for up to 4 players, using the same rules as the board game.

Can I play dirty?
That’s at the very core of Talisman! Cast spells at other players to make them miss turns! Steal from them! Turn them into toads! Send powerful allies to do your fighting for you!

How replayable is the game?
The emergent nature of the game means that every game will tell its own tale. The board starts with just the playing pieces and builds up to become a land filled with terrible danger and fabulous treasure! As you move around the board, you must make careful decisions about where to travel as each space can become more dangerous or more helpful as the game progresses. To help you get around, players can use things like teleporting, magic portals and fate, which allows you to re-roll your dice to get different results.

How long is a game of Talisman?
The physical board game can take 2-4 hours with 4 players, but our digital version cuts that down drastically, with an offline 4 player game typically taking no more than 1 hour. Offline games can be saved and resumed at any time so your adventures can take as long as you like! We’ve also added some features which decrease the length of games – House rules and Runestone cards. House rules change the basic rules slightly to speed-up the game and Runestone cards, exclusive to this digital edition, give characters extra abilities and allow them to become very powerful much quicker, making for shorter games.

Is there a hotseat mode?
Yes! Look your opponents in the eyes as you face them in deadly combat or sneak up from the shadows and steal their favourite items! All of the fun and social enjoyment of the physical game is captured in the digital version, but with no setup time!

What’s included with the base game and are there expansions?
For the initial purchase, everything that you get with the physical board game is included – all of the characters, spells and adventure cards. Expansions will be added and the first two, The Reaper and The Frostmarch, are available to purchase now. These add lots more spells, events, monsters, characters and the Grim Reaper himself, wandering the land looking to kill off players! Extra characters are also available to purchase, including rare characters from Talisman’s history.

The aim is simple be the first of four characters to get to the centre so you can slowly drain your opponents life, whilst trying to stop the other players doing the same. You can play against AI, local humans or online covering all bases. Items need to be found and kept hold of to get past certain points adding strategy. Battle is based on a strength or craft stat with a roll of the dice, winning battles can earn you stat increases. Character abilities are varied enough to tip situations to your advantage meaning you will want try different classes out. It is fun to go up against the AI and they offer a reasonable challenge without being perfect players! I have played two full games losing the first against three random(?) thieves but winning the second against a more varied group as the warrior (as always a recommended starter class!). You will gain runestones to give you a small advantage in later games (you can buy these but I would suggest earning them instead). I have now invested in the first expansion as the prices and playability seem fair even without a sale. Basically if you like Board Games with a Fantasy setting then get it!

Great fun board game turned into a really fun video game. Still some odd bugs in the game but mostly quite stable. Can't wait for the further expansion packs. Fun nostalgic times in a new package. For people who might get turned off by the fact the game has a ton of dlcs allready planned, I know I saw one such comment. That is simply because they are recreating all the expansions allready released for the physical board game version Talisman 4th edition. They are a ton of fun an well worth waiting for.

I love this game, I've been playing the board game version since the days of 2nd edition. Now I play it in the board version from an excellent board game publishing company: Fantasy Flight Games. I'm currently waiting for the newest expansion: The Woodlands which add's a forth corner to the board. The digital version here keeps the game true to it's core values and even showed me a few rules I had completely missed.

I highly recommend this to anyone that loves RPGs, stragety games, and fun, light-hearted competition to claim victory.

The AI is woefully inadequate to the point of making the game totally irrelevant. An AI player had 15 strength, 12 Craft and 3 talisma in its inventory and never attempted to even enter the central ring. This was while I was at the crown of command. Speaking of which, I spent more than 1.5 hours at the crown of command before finally dropping the final AI player. This is the same AI troll with 15 strength, 12 craft, 13 followers and 15 items (after robbing the corpses of the other dead players), and all it did was go back and forth to healers. I've played the original and we've always had trouble finishing a game in under 4 hours, and I've come to decide that it might not be us that is the problem. Unless you are only going to play this against human opponents, give this one a miss.

I will not recommend this game it's overly bugged and impossible to play a single game online.

If you want a solo game experience it's probably not as bugged as multiplayer, but I have played 5 games so far with friends and it crashed after 10min to 1½ hour of gameplay and you have to start a new game. There is a lot of different bugs also and so far all of them have made it impossible to continue playing.

If this game gets a lot of updates and bugfixes it might be playable but at the moment I don't recommend that people even try. If you planning to buy it too play multiplayer with friends atleast wait until it has become fixed cause this is just a waste of money at the moment.

I grew up playing Talisman the boardgame, so it is a real piece of family nostalgia. I'd heard about the digital edition quite a while ago, when it first entered the Steam greenlight process (originally as Prologue, the single player edition). I've followed the progress up to the point where it was released though Steam Early Access and then jumped at the chance to get it.

I've had a real blast playing both the Digital Edition (just against AI opponents at the moment) and playing the Prologue (single player variant game). My wife also expressed interest in playing it again (either Board version or Digital edition) so we gave local multiplayer a try using Steam Big Picture on her laptop, hooked up to our TV, and passing a mouse between us. It was a lot of fun

If you've ever played the boardgame, then I highly recommend the digital version. The game is faithful to the original in virtually every respect, with the addition of the Prologue single player edition which makes for a very enjoyable single player experience. There's no online multiplayer in the early access version yet, but it is coming in time for the full release of the game.

If you've never played the boardgame, but are interested in fantasy themed adventure boardgames, then track down the Demo of Talisman Prologue (http://www.talisman-game.com/prologuedemo/) and give it a try.
