Hi everyone,

We have a few fixes for game breaking bugs that were causing problems to some of you. Here they are:

  • Fixed an issue during witch some Corruptrons were staying at their spawning point.
We appreciate your feedback, so feel free to talk to us, make suggestions and report bugs on our various platforms: Twitter, Facebook and our official forums on Steam.

Talk to you soon!

Über dieses Spiel

Castle Story is a creative voxel-based strategy game in which you can build castles one brick at a time using an army of little characters called Bricktrons.

Your goal will be to explore a vast landscape full of mysteries and dangers, and defend your castle against onslaughts of hostile creatures and possibly other players.

The world of Castle Story takes place on flying islands, high above an infinite ocean. The islands are made of voxels, cubes made of various elements, which means you can dig, carve and build anything you can imagine in the landscape. Digging underground to gather resources, stacking bricks on top of each other to build a wall or even tunnelling through a mountain is all possible and even necessary to keep your Bricktrons safe.

Carefully designing your castle not only requires creativity and imagination, but thanks to pathfinding AI and physics simulations, Castle Story has layers of strategy and depth on top of an otherwise free-form sandbox experience.

Castle Story will be released for Windows & Mac (with possible Linux support once Unity4 is released).

Key Features

  • Build any structure you can imagine! Using 2x1 blocks, create structures that are not only good-looking, but also functional. Your Bricktrons need to be able to navigate your castle to build it and to keep the monsters out!
  • Physics! Watch a tower crumble to the ground realistically when its foundations can no longer support it. The entire world obeys to the laws of physics which means that you need to build cleverly so your castle can withstand attacks from projectiles and explosives.
  • Sandbox! Build a huge sprawling fortress, a single impenetrable bunker or a network of underground tunnels. The choice is yours. Castle Story rewards imagination and ingenuity.
  • Strategy! Command your Bricktrons as they build your castle brick by brick. Manage the way they work, what resources they gather, and the places they explore. Use your resources to build weapons and armor for your Bricktrons and all kinds of upgrades for your castle.
  • Combat! Using shields, swords, bows and lots more, your Bricktrons can defend themselves against the hostile creatures inhabiting the world of Castle Story. Lead your Bricktrons through tough fights, and use your wits to gain an advantage. You can even build catapults to rain destruction on your foes!
  • Magic! The world of Castle Story is permeated with all kinds of magic. Discover resources with magical auras and learn to mix them to create effects. Explore strange places and find mysterious artifacts left behind by unknown civilizations.

├Honest Review┤
Review is based on current state of game.

Game Pros
• Base Building
• Resource Gathering
• Day/night Cycle

Game Cons
• AI Path finding is horrible
• Very slow updates (Hasn't gone far in a years time)
• Basic map
• Controls are confusing to get used to and are not explained well
• Mind numbing
• Devs give false promises
• Game freezes/Lags/Crashes often

Relateable Games
• N/A

Castle Story has a great concept that has been executed poorly by the developers. It looks almost exactly the same from where it was on Kickstarter before it even came out, and the updates are more like patches. I would not reccomend this game to anyone.

(If you found this review helpful, consider giving it a thumbs up!)

I love the idea of this game. I have owned it for a long time and it does not seem to get any better.

Please note that when I got this game it had multiplayer and it had a map editor. Then they removed it in order to improve it. I wish it was still there, it was more fun then even if it was buggy. All I see now is updates to textures and shadings and stuff which does not matter to me, gameplay matters. I was really feeling hopeful when two updates in a row came out during the summer sale but maybe they just wanted it to look more active? Anyways, there are updates being made but it feels like there is a single person does it in his spare time, there is no real progress and I do hope they turn it around. It's a neat game but that's it, watch it on youtube for an hour and see if it still seems interesting.

Follow and wishlist this game for now, you won't be happy if you buy it in it's current state. I hope that in the future I can change this review to a positive one and even do a video review.

This is a troubled game from a troubled developer. Check out what happened to the reddit or what has happened in the steam forums for many details. Sauropod and it's community managers have a history of manipulating information, deleting posts about the state of the game, they have even deleted their own posts when it favors them.

The last community manager, Box, was fired for doing this but the new community manager, Ben, is doing similarly. He even called dissenters members of a "freak show" for pointing out the lies and deception. Since it is likely to be deleted, here is part of my last couple posts on the forum including quotes from Ben:

Ben_SuaropodStudio: "I will delete this thread."
"I won't let this thread be turned into yet another freak show"
"It’s not about not listening to people concerns nor it’s about control."
"It's a job. I'm simply putting things in context and making sure that the right information circulates."

If you say something the community manager does not agree with you get called a freak[] and are threatened with deletion if you do not curculate "the right information".

So no, you should not buy this game nor any other game. Not until you read an honest discussion about what you are considering parting money for.

There is no honest discussion of the game. Dissenters are crushed, banned, and their posts deleted. Even posting a bad review has gotten people banned from the forums in the past. The honest truth is it has appeared to be stuck in development hell for years. There has been many broken promises and deletions of those promises. It was a game with potential that was squandered on who knows what as there was virtually no visible change for three years. Development has ramped up as they intend to release it early 2016. For any rational person it just looks like too little too late as all of the features presented in the trailer are still not in the game.

Bought this game a long time ago. It was pretty fun then. Not a lot to it, but that's expected of early access games. However, the game hasn't made any notable progress from a player standpoint and the AI appears to have gotten quite a bit worse to the point of making building anything a mess of micromanaging a bunch of lemmings. Coming back to the game like I have, the only new thing I noticed is that the bricks look a bit more like stone instead of plastic.

Had this game made progress or at least remained relatively smooth in gameplay, I could reccomend it as a fun little sandbox game. As it stands, I urge people not to pay twenty dollars for an unfinished and partially broken game that has lost its promise.
