Cities in Motion 2 ist ein schwieriges Review, da man es zwangsweise mit Cities in Motion 1 vergleicht und das tut dem Spiel leider nicht gut.

Besser wäre es vermutlich gewesen, den „Nachfolger“ komplett anders zu benennen, denn außer den Transport von Passagieren haben die zwei Teile quasi nichts gemein.

Die starken Unterschiede sind im Grunde nicht schlecht, denn CiM2 beschreitet ganz neue und interessante Wege. Der Zeitverlauf ist im Gegensatz zum ersten Teil nicht mehr in Jahren über einen langen Zeitraum von Jahrzehnten oder mehr, sondern es gibt einen 24h Zyklus.

Entsprechend funktioniert auch die Fahrplangestaltung komplett anders. Sehr feingranular kann gewählt werden zu welchen Zeiten (Tag, Nacht, Wochenende, …) wie viele Fahrzeuge auf einer Linie unterwegs sein sollen. Die Fahrzeuge stehen im Depot bereit und werden auch von mehreren Linien „geteilt“, das klappt sehr gut und macht auch Spaß bei der Planung.

Auf der anderen Seite fehlt natürlich die Fahrzeugvielfalt über die Zeit, was schade ist. Hier hatte CiM1 bei Spielern gut gepunktet.

Die Einteilung der Stadt in frei gestaltbare Preis-Zonen ist eine schöne Idee, auch wenn die Preisvorstellungen der Kunden nicht immer ganz nachvollziehbar sind.

Abstriche im Vergleich zum Vorgängen muss man definitiv in der Optik machen: Waren die Karten der Städte im ersten Teil noch alle mit sehr viel Liebe zum Detail von Hand gebaut und hatten hohen Wiedererkennungswert, was die echten Vorbilder angeht, bietet der zweite Teil dynamisch wachsende Städte, die leider stellenweise etwas „langweilig“ ausschauen. Es ist schwer zu beschreiben, aber wer sich Screenshot von 1 und 2 nebeneinander anschaut, weiß sicher, was ich meine.

Auch die Modbarkeit ist im zweiten Teil nicht mehr so ausführlich wie im ersten, zwar bringt das Spiel ein paar interessante Editoren mit, es kommt aber manchmal das Gefühl auf, dass die Entwickler bzw. der Publisher mit leichter Absicht die Modbarkeit eingeschränkt haben, um in Folge ein paar mehr DLCs an die Spieler zu bringen. Entsprechend würde CiM2 auch im Vergleich zum ersten Teil relativ günstig zum Release verkauft und es war gleich klar, dass bald DLCs nachkommen werden. Überraschenderweise hat sich die Flut aber in Grenzen gehalten.

Den Multiplayer-Modus habe ich nur kurz probiert, es hat aber überraschend gut funktioniert, gemeinschaftlich am Transport-Unternehmen zu basteln.

Vergleicht man also CiM2 NICHT mit CiM1 und kann auf die hübsche Optik des ersten Teils verzichten, ist es eine gute und solide Transport-Simulation mit schönen Ideen.

Das Erstellen eigener Linien, das Zuweisen von Fahrzeugen und Bauen von Infrastruktur funktioniert wunderbar. Viele Sachen sind sehr detailliert dargestellt und das Planen macht Spaß.
Warum das Spiel trotzdem nicht empfehlenswert ist: Die Welt wirkt grau und eintönig (vor allem durch Verzicht auf Altbauten), die KI der Verkehrsmittel setzt vor allem bei großen Streckennetzen sehr oft aus, Fahrzeuge (sogar die Fähren auf dem Wasser) stehen sich selbst im Weg und stauen sich an Haltestellen oder Kreuzungspunkten.

Eigentlich ein gutes Spiel. Leider sehr schnell eintönig: zu wenig Abwechslungsreiche und funktionale Gebäude. Besonders im Karteneditor merkt man schnell, dass die Gebäude einfach nicht ausreichen, um eine Abwechslunmgsreiche Karte zu schaffen.

Multiplayer: not tested

After its successful predecessor, Cities in Motion 2 drives in my test himself against the wall. One might almost think that traffic simulation was published in haste for tapping still frustrated SimCity players quickly.
Graphics do not care because the simulation fans may call for simulated Cities in Motion 2 days but complex processes, and we can fine-tune all schedules. With the morning and evening rush hour, stripped-night schedules, and more recently weekend traffic, less commuting, but more passengers towards the park and opera.

And in Cities in Motion 2? There's no roller coaster still very busy, but only the gaping void. Even potential eye like a baseball stadium degenerate to the setting when no player even on Saturdays and Sundays are to be on the field - although visible flow of people into the arena. Just one of the many quirks of Cities in Motion. 2
Okay, we let the medi core graphics and atmosphere to get away - what's up with the pure aspect of simulation? Creates Cities in Motion 2, what has most recently messed SimCity, namely to create a true daily routine of its inhabitants? The answer is yes and no. Basically, the behavior is more realistic than the Sims.

Atmosphere: Cities in Motion 2
Far too drab cities, hardly notable buildings, including on weekends orphaned baseball stadiums - here there is nothing doing. As in its predecessor, with its amusement parks and train stations was going much more.

Simulation of the inhabitants: Cities in Motion 2
Here residents have a real life: permanent residence, permanent job, shopping, all within driving distance. Emergency on foot. Better: with our public transport. However we also experienced dropouts, then a Cim suddenly jumps to the destination.

Simulation of traffic: Cities in Motion 2
The traffic behavior is generally very easy to follow and realistic vehicles and pedestrians stop at red lights (except emergency vehicles!), Buses use their tracks. Jams - and give us opportunities to earn good money. However, fire engines and police cars are just window dressing and bring ordinary citizens to their jobs!

Transportation: Cities in Motion 2
Weak for a traffic simulation: Compared to its predecessor, there's only about half as many types of vehicles, and who are also very similar. The individual for is composed of many different cars and trucks, even motorcycles, but the "neutral" aviation and rail are kicked out, which brought a lot of atmosphere.

So: If you do not know the first Cities in Motion, I would highly recommend it. Cities in Motion 2 is more for genre fans. Cities in Motion 2 is a micromanager's dream, but lacks the smooth UI needed to make all that information digestible.

This game is great for those of us who enjoy just to manage the transport aspect of a city, and for those of us who love efficiency. The game is not a city builder in the traditional sense--you can build roads and expand your cities around them, but that isn't the primary focus of the game. That being said, there are some pretty serious challenges to the game, and the mechanics as well. I do have several concerns with the game in general, but I'll get to those in a bit.

Here's a breakdown:

The good: Seriously challenges you to be efficient
Engine is good
Large variety of possibilites, you can make your own city, workshop is available too
Variety of transportation methods
Building engine is easy to use and cool


Bad:
Game is DLC-Based
Stops are not realistic, vehicles leave without being full when peopple are obviously running to the stop
Cars are stupid: they do not take advantage of multiple lanes going to the same place
Height of buildings are not realistic.
When building new roads, game is prone to developing tons and tons of elementary and high schools, forcing the player to demolish them so houses can be built.
People are stupid: all vehicles yield to them.
Traffic lights make no sense
No easy way to make central hubs.

All you really need to get money in a game is one good Metro line, then you can just hit fast forward for tons of money.
I like the game, but it gets boring and repetitive very quickly. Even with all of the DLC, it's really easy to just fall into the same rut ovver and over again. The game does a good job for those of us who enjoy city management, but the content of the game itself leaves a ton to be desired.

I do not reccommend the game to any of my friends.

The first Cities in Motion was an interesting enough game, more of a proof of concept than anything else, but it lacked a lot in the long-term game.The changes in Cities in Motion 2 are few, but pointed, and stand as a fairly significant departure from how things were in the first game. For starters, you don’t start in the past and progress through the ages – everything is fixed in the modern era. City maps are also much, much larger, and give a more varied and interesting landscape for you to work around. Cities also evolve dynamically now, instead of via a set progression path – players can plonk down their own roads and access-ways, and houses will spring up around them. The City AI will also react to where you start plonking down transport lines as well, so there’s a very to-and-fro dynamic going on. There are also a lot of minor tweaks, most notably in the management of your company and the lines themselves. Such a departure is not without its consequences though – what Cities in Motions 2 gains in more long-term, large scale gameplay, they lose in short-term, focused gameplay. When presented with your first, large city, it can be quite hard to know where to start.The campaign is largely forgettable, offering up a number of generic, unimaginative missions that you will also get during the sandbox game. In the latter, at least, you can decide to forgo a mission when it bores you, during the campaign you cannot.Much of its appeal lies in its commitment to the day-to-day workings of contemporary fictional cities over Cities in Motion's 100-year timelines for mostly unalterable maps of Berlin, Helsinki, Vienna, and Amsterdam – particularly in the way traffic patterns correspond to a day-and-night cycle and the way you can expect bursty rush hours on Monday mornings and Friday evenings.These additions provide a richer and more realistics experience that extends far beyond mere cosmetics.Yet the new commitment to realism also means that the pacing might seem unbearably slow, even with accelerated time.Cities in Motion 2's more realistic approach may leave it looking a little drabber than its predecessor, but its focus on dynamic cities, timetables, and ticket prices in a contemporary city in real time make it a significant improvement over its predecessor.

Cities in Motion is a game about transporting people within a single city. You are doing this by building trams, buses, metros and boats. This is in difference to games like Railroad Tycoon, Transport Tycoon and most recently Train Fever where you transport people and goods between cities.

The base premise of the game works well with a well executed economy and people having regular destinations and are able to use several different lines to get to those destinations.

The game offers a pretty limited set of trams, metro trains, buses and boats. As far as I can make out if you want more you have to buy DLC:s.

The game has a campaign that is reasonable and also acts as a tutorial. It is not very special though.

Although it is possible to build a profitable tram network, if you want to make as much money as possible, it is almost always best to borrow money to build a couple of metro lines, which will make you enough money to build more metro lines. This makes the game a little bit more boring since not all options are viable.

The ingame time is something pretty confusing, since all lines take strange amount of time. It is easy to build 12 hour lines even in quite small city. And passengers are often quite happy to go to work in lines that take several hours. It leaves the impression that people in these cities are spending all of their time transporting themselves.

There is definitley depth to this game, so anyone who likes getting deep into the game systems and learning how they work will get some enjoyment out of this title. However, the simulation is just not up to snuff and it becomes apparent fast, which breaks immersion (if you're looking for that kind of stuff). There are a lot of controls but half of them are so obscured under other controls and options that navigating the UI is about as easy as finding a needle in a haystack! Overall, I would recommend this only if you really want to play a transport sim and you've gotten your fill of all the others out there (but i doubt there are too many of you that fit that statement).

The game is an excellent time killer, but I find that it suffers from a lack of variety in transportation options. Overall I would say it has its fun times, just I wish for more complexity and more varied terrain. Regardless, I recomend the game if it goes on sale.

Beautiful game, full of detail and graphcs. It seems to actually simulate a huge amount of things, such as residential areas, work and leisure places, differing human schedules and income brackets. So Blue Collar Workers will need certain transport and White Collar other. Friday Nights get busy wit hpeople heading out to leisure locations more. It´s up to you to manage your transport timetables to accomdate this!

It is this extra level of depth that makes this game worth while. It´s not just a plain old road builder, you actually get a fully evolving world to manage.

Cities in motion 2 is a game where you have to build a transportation system.

When I first purchased the game, my friends were saying to me 'Why did you buy this, not Sims?'

This game is NOT like sims. The sole objective is to move people around, and this aspect of the game has been greatly presented, as there are loads of types of transport you can use. This game also has lots of DLC, which is not needed to have a good time but can greatly expand the game.

The community is great, and the Steam Workshop means you can download custom maps- and on top of all of this, it even has Steam trading cards!

Overall, I would give this game 9.5/10.

Pretty cool planning simulator. Brings back the addictive feelings I had when I used to play old versions of Sim City. Only this time I don't have to worry about where the buildings go. Just focus on connecting transport to them.

Much better than the original Cities in Motion, which was complete ♥♥♥♥ and very hard to make a profit on (even on Easy mode). Cities in Motion 2 has much better graphics, improved laying of tram and commuter rails including the option of elevated tracks. Routes can become crowded quite quicky if they are long distance and become popular, and it does take a while to work out the best solution to minimise delays and make better profits allowing you to invest back into improving your network.

The multiplayer has an odd few bugs depending on saves between those playing but all of this can be fixed each time by sending the save file to the rest of the party. Other than that it is great fun and adds alot to a genre of "Transport Tycoon" strategy games that no other has before.

Nice game, if you like traffic. The citizens have realistic behaviour. It is challenging to transport them as fast as possible to their homes, their work or their leisure places. The graphics are not very good but in my opinion that's not very important.
Short version; this game is worth trying.

Great graphics. It's surprising how much you can zoom and watch the little details in the city. Amazing ideas in this game but the execution is very poor in some areas.

The average speed of a bus is 1.7km/h (in game hours). That means that timetables are practically useless since your night buses will get back to the depot at 3pm since some 9km lines will take 15 hours to finish. I don't understand what the developers were thinking. Is this supposed to be a simulator or not? Why would anyone use a bus that needs 4 hours to take him from his house to his work? What's the purpose of "rush hour" when buses take 1 hour to reach the first stop and then spend another 3 hours picking up people in the morning that want to go to work. I don't know, time in this game makes NO sense at all. It's an insane oversight that simply ruins the game.

If you use the custom rules you can set the time to run at 3%-4% of the normal rate which brings it to a real time simulation with buses driving around the city as they would in real life, taking the proper amount of time to reach places, and timetables become again useful. But that way, when you run out of money good luck waiting 5+ hours on your computer (with the high speed setting ON in-game) for an in-game week or so to pass so that you can buy a few more kilometers of metro rail. If we had more levels to the "high speed" buttons this "custom rules" scheme could actually work.

This isn't your typical sim, it wasn't what I was expecting at least. The entire goal of this is to create public transport routes for different parts of the city while making a profit. How it determines the % you've covered isn't always clear, it was an enjoyable game for what it was.

Good game with his ups and downs.

+ Nice Gameplay
+ Nice Maps
+ The difficulty has been raised in easy mode compared CIM.
+ Overcrowding

- Game view. Camera should have been as good as It used to be in CIM, but that's my opinion.
- Amount of Vehicles without DLC's
- Number of PAX is still on the low side.
