Coming Soon in the May Update...

Hey everyone! We've got an update brewing for next week that we wanted to tell you guys about. Take a look and let us know what you think.

Intra-Facility Missions
Intra-facility missions are dynamically created missions that point you towards the important objectives inside a facility based on distance. So, if you're near Cap Point A, your mission will say "Capture A". If you're an Engineer and you're near a destroyed generator, your mission will be "Repair Generator". This system is intended to give new players a better sense of a facility's objectives and some direction on how to find them.

Membership Changes
The current membership system with Copper, Silver, Gold, etc, tiers of membership is pretty clunky and unintuitive. With how complicated it was to explain and surface all the information needed for it to make sense, it ended up feeling counterproductive. With that said, we’re taking out all those extra tiers – everyone who is a member is treated like they have max-level-Auraxium membership going forward, with all the benefits that entails.

Pricing Changes
We’re making some pretty significant changes to our cert and DBC pricing across the Depot. The vast majority of DBC prices will be dropping, some only slightly, but in many cases pretty significantly. There is one noteworthy exception, and that’s NS weapons that are available to all factions on purchase – those are going up slightly to account for the extra value they bring to the table.

We also updated many of our cert prices to account for the two years we've let them go unattended – and this meant that in addition to many prices going down, or staying the same, cert prices increased for a number of weapons as well. To give some context and hopefully alleviate some fears, our updated weapon cert prices range from 200-1000 certs, so there’s no drastic departure on that front.

We understand there might be some concern at the notion of any prices going up, but we hope that once everyone gets to see the entirety of the pricing changes first hand, the net reaction will be a positive one.

Battle Rank Certs Until 15
We felt the cert gain rate at low levels was too restrictive for new players trying to grow their characters. With this change, each battle rank achieved through BR 15 now provides 100 free certs to help new players get their characters rolling.

Spawn Rule Changes
You can no longer spawn at a base that is not connected to your warpgate via lattice unless you die in that base’s region; the idea here is to add more strategic importance to territory and logistics.

Icon Readability
We've done a pass on all of the icons and text in the HUD, Map, and Minimap to make them more readable and well, iconic. We've also changed the settings for things like when HUD icons get pinned to the side of your screen and the distance at which the opacity changes.

We are doing this on PC and PS4 for a couple reasons:

  • A lot of the overhead text was pretty unreadable in certain lighting
  • The brackets around many of the icons on the minimap used up precious pixels
  • Most of the outlines and glows on text means you really have to squint to read it
Check out the forum post here if you want to see some screen shots:

High Profile Bug Fixes
  • The Vehicle Ejection Bug: One day we will be able to finally eradicate this bug in a cleansing flame… and hopefully that day is the day of this update. We have a speculative fix for the infamous vehicle ejection bug that sends you flying into the stratosphere. Please cross your fingers and continue to report this if you see it.
  • Awareness changes: It is now less likely that you are rendered by/visible to players that aren’t being rendered for you.
Other Changes

Galaxy Repair and Ammo: The Galaxy has new defense slot options, Vehicle Ammo Dispenser and Nanite Proximity Repair System.
  • Vehicle Ammo Dispenser: Resupply ammunition of nearby vehicles
  • Nanite Proximity Repair System: Repair nearby damaged vehicles
MBT Updates
  • New Conglomerate
    • Enforcer ML85/Enforcer ML65-H: The Enforcer now has a continuous reload mechanic, ammo will be reloaded one round at a time and the weapon can be fired at anytime during the reload process.
    • C85 Canister: The C85 Canister now has a continuous reload mechanic, ammo will be reloaded one round at a time and the weapon can be fired at anytime during the reload process.
    • C85 Canister-H: The C85 Canister-H now has a continuous reload mechanic and the clip size on the Harasser variant has been reduced from 10 to 8.
  • Vanu Sovereignty
    • Proton II PPA: PPA max COF has been reduced from 0.6 to 0.3 and COF Recoil has been reduced from 0.6 to 0.3
    • Proton II PPA-H: PPA max COF has been reduced from 3 to 2.25 and COF Recoil has been reduced from 0.6 to 0.45
    • Saron HRB down pitch angle limit has been improved by 10 degrees
  • Terran Republic
    • Prowler G30 Vulcan: The Prowler version of the Vulcan COF reduced from 1.1 to 0.9
  • The visual effect of Vehicle night vision has been improved
  • Aegis shield should now block AOE damage more accurately
  • Vehicle zoom optics can now be purchased individually, optics have been reset and their certs refunded
  • Due to a lack of being awesome, the Decoy grenade is being removed from game and certs spent on it refunded. If we can find a way to make it awesome, we’ll look at adding it back in.
That’s it for now! We understand we may not have hit every issue/bug you've brought up recently, but we’ll continue to hammer away at these while working on new content. We look forward to your thoughts!

With warm regards, but not too warm because this is war,

- The PlanetSide 2 Team

Hossin is a massive new map that will introduce an entirely new type of battle experience to PlanetSide 2. With its swamp-like terrain and natural barriers, players will be challenged like never before. Hossin will add an insane new element and its 80 new bases are scattered throughout, making infantry combat the most important it’s ever been.

In addition to the release of Hossin, there were other brand new features introduced into PlanetSide 2:

  • OUTFIT RECRUITMENT – New streamlined process for building, seeking and joining outfits. Players can choose their crew, their way with this new recruitment tool.

  • OUTFIT BASE CAPTURE – New “ownership” system where the facility / outpost is awarded to the top contributing outfit during capture.

  • CONTINENT LOCKING – Offering an unprecedented level of player control, the Auraxian population can now control which continents are open for contest, when those continents have alerts and when warpgates will rotate.

A játékról

PlanetSide 2 is a free-to-play, massively multiplayer online first person shooter (MMOFPS). Empires fight on a massive scale where soldiers battle in an all-out planetary war on a scale never before seen in stunning, breathtaking detail. PlanetSide 2 battles persist when thousands of players align in this game that challenges the skill and grit through intense land, air and vehicle gameplay.

Across four huge maps, players come together in enormous battles to win control of critical territories and key resources for their Empire. With an extensive skill tree and free-form class-based system, players customize their soldier, weapons and vehicles to match their play-style, as well as the needs of their squad, outfit or Empire. The world of PlanetSide 2 is massive and persistent with every soldier capable of making a difference.

Key Features:
  • THREE WARING EMPIRES: Players will choose to align with one of three unique Empires – the militaristic, authoritarian Terran Republic, the rebellious, freedom-fighter faction New Conglomerate, or the technocratic, alien-influenced Empire Vanu Sovereignty. Each Empire has access to unique weapons, attachments, vehicles, abilities, and more.
  • MASSIVE WARFARE: Battles take place not between dozens of troops, but hundreds; with air and ground vehicles slugging it out alongside squads of troops. Each battleground holds valuable resources and key positions, and the Empire that can conquer (and manage to hold) these territories are rewarded with tech bonuses, greater access to equipment, and more.
  • ENORMOUS MAPS: PlanetSide 2 features four incredible and diverse continent maps with dozens of square kilometers of seamless gameplay space; every inch of which is hand-crafted, contestable space. Whether in open fields, tightly-packed urban centers or enormous outposts, victory requires calculated teamwork and a quick trigger finger to survive the massive battles.
  • PERSISTENCE THAT PAYS: In PlanetSide 2 the war isn’t won by a single base capture. The core gameplay of PlanetSide 2 is about holding crucial territories and controlling resources. Working strategically as a team to secure tactical positions, such as power plants and ammo depots, has long-lasting effects that can shift the tide of battle and provide key rewards and bonuses.
  • CLASS-BASED COMBAT: Players can build their soldier to match their play-style, as well as the needs of their squad, outfit or Empire. With six distinct classes to explore, each combat role, vehicle and weapon has extensive skill trees that will allow players to grow characters laterally, unlocking hundreds of weapons, attachments, equipment, specialized skills, vehicles, and more. Play as one of six distinct classes:

    - Heavy Assault – Rush into the battle ahead, guns blazing. You are the dedicated foot soldier of Auraxis.
    - Light Assault – Go where the Heavies can’t with your short-burst jetpack. Pick a high spot, throw a grenade and surprise your foes!
    - Combat Medic – Keep your fellow soldiers healed- it’s your job to revive fallen comrades.
    - Infiltrator – Stealthy and silent, you are death from the shadows. Whether you choose a knife from behind or a single shot from sniper’s nest, you are the enemy’s greatest fear.
    - Engineer – A crucial support class with the ability to repair important gear including vehicles, terminals, and turrets. Engineers can drop their own shielded turret and mow down advancing troops.
    - MAX – Heavily armored, cannons for hands, and a disposition to match, you are the ruler of the battlefield and a walking mass of armored death.

  • OUTFIT TEAMWORK: Outfits play a very important role in each and every battle. From a small group of specialized soldiers or rapid response team, to a huge clan that can field multiple platoons of hundreds of players, outfits have access to unique customizations– allowing them to create their own identity and manage their reputation and overall role in the ongoing war.
  • VEHICLES & WEAPONS: Players are able to access a huge array of weapons and vehicles which can be extensively customized for player preference or purposed with unique attachments and add-ons earned in game to fit each player’s style.
  • PLAY FOR FREE: PlanetSide 2 is Free-To-Play with an additional in-game RMT marketplace with items that range from cosmetic camouflage patterns and armor paint jobs, to XP accelerators. Items that affect gameplay, such as weapon side-grades will be purchasable via resources earned in-game through gameplay and achievements.
  • VOICE INTEGRATION: Players are able to communicate with their squads both through keyboard and voice chat.

See below for collecting some free stuff for this game after installing it and some beginner guides

+Alot costumization options for weapons, cosmetics and general playstyle
+3 Different factions with different playstyle
+6 Classes and each class can fullfill several roles
+A constant playerbase
+Ingame clansystem (Outfit) and fast creating of temporaly groups (Squads)
+Giant maps and big battles
+Alot weapons and vehicles
+Air battles
+Release of new content still keeps on
+No Pay 2 Win (But Pay 2 Progress)
+Implant-system that will tweak your playstyle a little bit more

-Sometimes laggy gameplay and high pings
-Not a real competitive shooter compared with CS:GO
-Unpolished Respawn-System
-High-End-Computer needed to play with a good graphic and FPS above ~60.
-A bit grindy gameplay. To unlock everything you need to play several 1000 hours!
-Clientbased hitdetection (For more details search in google "Planetside Clientbased Hitdetection")
-SOE-Account needed

Planetside has defenitly it bad sides. It happens often that one faction outmatch a other one extremly and the whole gameplay endsup in a giant spawnkill festival.
But if you search for it, you always can find balanced battles in which you can participate.
And there are those short moments in which you or your squad has the chance to turn the table of the battle.

For example when you slip through the heavy enemy defenses undetected, with your light tank or buggy and spot some enemy mobile spawnpoints. You have now the chance to destroy the enemy mobile spawnpoint from a more or less safe distance before the enemies notice what is happen.
If you succed you may stop the enemies to flank your forces with fresh troops, which will often turn the battle to your favors. That is really a priceless experience!

Afterall Planetside is for a free2play not flawless, but a really good and pretty unique game, that should be try out.

As promised:
Here are codes and guides for collecting free stuff:

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg
2 large eggs, at room temperature
1 1/4 cups milk, at room temperature
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, plus more as needed

Now to make it
1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
2. In another bowl, beat the eggs and then whisk in the milk and vanilla.
3. Melt the butter in a large cast iron skillet or griddle over medium heat.
4. Whisk the butter into the milk mixture. Add the wet ingredients to the flour mixture, and whisk until a thick batter is just formed
5. Keeping the skillet at medium heat, ladle about 1/4 cup of the batter onto the skillet, to make a pancake. Make 1 or 2 more pancakes, taking care to keep them evenly spaced apart. Cook, until bubbles break the surface of the pancakes, and the undersides are golden brown, about 2 minutes. Flip with a spatula and cook about 1 minute more on the second side. Serve immediately or transfer to a platter and cover loosely with foil to keep warm. Repeat with the remaining batter, adding more butter to the skillet as needed.
6. Procedure for adding fruit to pancakes: Once the bubbles break the surface of the pancakes, scatter the surface with sliced or diced fruit, or chocolate chips, nuts, etc. Flip with a spatula and cook for 1 minute more, being careful not to burn toppings

but reallly this is a good game

i'm a 2xBR100 with 5k~ hours spent ingame from Cobalt (EU server).

- has massive potential of being the biggest & best TDM game ever (dynamic TDM with strategy elements, where hexes/bases are basically arenas).

- nothing like it out there.

- surprisingly fun infantry gunplay and deep class builds.

- easy to use yet thrilling vehicular play (when not just farming infantry like a ♥♥♥).

- 25-48 vs. 25-48s are some of the best gaming moments you'll experience. so are wins against the odds with your outfit mates.

- game looks suprisingly beautiful considering what it's trying to accomplish.

- p2w elements introduced lately in the form of Implants that drain energy rapidly, and energy chargers rarely dropping to maintain energy. widens the gap between the new player or the average non-paying customer and the old player (with a lot of certs laying around) or paying customer, and gives a nice small advantage on the tier 4s.

- client performance has been on a decline since performance update 01. it's been pretty terrible as of late, after code merge with ps4 version.

- server performance has been terrible/unplayable the past year. especially for EU players (having better connectivity, hit detection to NA servers, instead of home server on EU). the devs know about it, but just can't get their ♥♥♥♥ together, either because they stopped caring about the PC version, or they just don't have the experience to solve this.

- content/experience is player driven and since the community is lazy/stupid & there are no rules/restrictions to ensure quality, the fights are mostly unbalanced/one-sided/boring. a majority of the community either farms base captures (96+ vs. 2 guys in a spawn room, yey) or farms kills (mostly in vehicles/maxes or heavy assault) while not playing for any objective.

- new player experience is still one of the worst in gaming history. tutorial is very slim and doesn't really cover some important stuff. you drop to the biggest fights on the continent ang get slaughtered over and over again. all your support tools are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ly slow, and your can't get attachments for your weapons for a very long time. after all that, you end up in a platoon ran by a bad/lazy leader who teaches you the wonders of zerging like a stupid sheep, and than end up in a bad outfit that does it on a daily basis with an array of bad/lazy leaders. you also use a shotgun or a max suit everytime you can, cause why not.. and get used to completely playing the game on easy mode. and that's a the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ community expands and kills any competitiveness or fun you could have in this game.

- dev team size has been cut hard or shifted to ps4/xbox1, and as a result new content is rarely released, or released in a broken "phase 1" state, and left like that for a LONG period. (we still didn't get any phase 2 to any of the phase 1s that currently ruin the game [like the resource system phase 1]).

- weapon/class balance is terrible and the devs are generally out of touch/base their tweaks on spreadsheets, micro sales or forum/reddit outcries.

- bugs, bugs, bugs, some still existing ever since beta. every patch creates more bugs.

- game's netcode is clientside based, making the game pretty iffy for competitive play, where you die behind walls or can exploit packet loss to your advantage (therum style). the devs support the community with a competitive server you can scrim on (jaeger) doe.

- base design is bad and boring for the most part. recycled assets everywhere makes for a very repeatitive feel to the game.

- the game's engine can't handle big 96/+ v 96/+ fights. infantry starts to not render at normal ranges. mainly a problem for vehicle players.

Got a new PC just to play this.

Loggin in, spawing at warpgate- OMG this is awsome. Transport ships, Galaxy gunships, tanks, bunch of people. Get in to a transport ship. Take of. This feels almost like the beginning of "Black Hawk Down". Enjoying the beatutiful sceenery of snow and gigant black icicles when BAM. Rank 8 pilot just rammed a cliff and killed us all....

Get to the respawn screen and see a "Join squad". Press it and then "Squad spawn". Get transported to Indar. But I loved the snow :(. Spawed under a house thing next to a big globe thing. Looks important. Everywhere explosions, screams of suffering and gore. Take a wallless lift to the platform on the globe. Its like the D-Day all over. Everyone pinned down behind steel walls and trying to get throu narrow gap in the globe. See "Monty Pyhton" laying dead next to me. Ohh right, Im a medic. Revive him just to die with him the next moment.

Half an hour and 200 deaths later I conclude- running blindly inside the gap of the important looking globe thing isnt a good idea.

Planetside 2 is a game with aquired taste. If you like large scale war and fiece fps battles, youll enjoy it. The problem with planetside is that it is, technically a huge piece of ♥♥♥♥. For over 2 years this game has sat without optimization. It runs pretty smoothly but i must stay, if you do not have a moderatly powerful machine, you wont be able to enjoy planetside. The game is so taxing on CPU's its almost criminal! XD But overall the game is solid and worth your time if you have the tech :)

First things first: despite my almost 900 hours on record in Steam, the amount of time I spent in this game is around 2500+ hours between all 3 factions.

Another premise is that I am not a player of the original PlanetSide, having historically loathed mandatory subscription models over a one-time pay-to-play or micro-transactions model. I have heard many great things about the original game, though I'm not sure—having seen several gameplay videos—whether that is mere nostalgia of a golden age now long gone, or actual objectivity. There are several aspects of PS2 mechanics that are a galactic improvement over the original, which featured mechanics that I am sure felt dated even back in its 2003 heydays.

Of course, that aspect is far from being the main cause of discontent amongst the playerbase, seeing as PlanetSide 2 certainly has well-refined gunplay and vehicular warfare. The real issue concerning the game is whether it really is anything more than one large Battlefield Conquest match that only ends when you log out. Before answering that, I will go into a little bit of my own PlanetSide 2 background.

Back in early 2012, I was one of the many discontent Battlefield 3 players who had been blinded by the flashy advertisement campaign for the game and decided to go for it. Needless to say the game itself was not worth the price, but it wasn't all bad, as I have met friends I have remained in touch with ever since. One of them linked me to videos and descriptions of this game, saying it encompasses our idea of what a Battlefield game should be like, but with much more to it: an open world, massively online multiplayer first-person shooter, can you imagine that?

Obviously, the first thing I do is sign up for the closed beta and wait for the moment I would receive a key with trepidation. Real life didn't let things go easily, and the day I received my beta key, I was away from home and only with a laptop that could barely run Minecraft. Meanwhile, the game hits release, and the only way I could experience the thrill—at least vicariously so—was to watch YouTube videos in excitement and awe.

Having come back home by early February 2013, I decide to take a bit of dust off my PC by installing the game and playing it. Miller (EU) was the server I'd choose, as at the time of me starting up the game, it was the one with the higher population in my region. I tried all three factions in the space of a few days, creating a character, then deleting it, then recreating it to try the other factions. What caught my eye is that the bulk of the fights would take place in roughly the same areas, namely The Crown and its immediate surrounding areas.

Up until that moment, the game looked extremely confusing and chaotic to me. However, fate wanted that, during one of these test playthroughs, I would hop into a random guy's tank and after a rather lengthy session of killing, we would add each other as "Friends" through the in-game function. He asks me if I were interested in joining his outfit (a.k.a. a guild), and me being a one-man-army kind of player, I was initially very sceptical, but decided to give it a try.

Entering this first outfit, I found that the game's most important aspect was certainly the social one. It's comparable to other MMOs, but me being a FPS player with no real penchant for that type of games, I was certainly astounded by being in a community with over 300 other people! These outfits set goals for themselves that they try to achieve through gameplay, which is mostly condensed into prime-time and special events. This would keep the game alive even when otherwise dead.

At the time, the continents were still using the now-replaced (warning: game-specific jargon in italic) Hex system, without any closed Lattice lanes like today. This allowed for flanking strategies which made leading a large scale force rather challenging, occasionally causing cases of those infamous ghost captures. The game was nonetheless enjoyable, especially during prime-time and mostly in what is seen by all factions as the main continent to contest: Indar.

This created many exciting battles, with hundreds of people fighting for one small piece of territory, which often proved to be too much stress on the server's resources. Nonetheless, we were doing something you can't do in any other game at an unreplicated scale. This would not last much longer, however. In fact, two changes were crucial in altering the way the game played: Lattice lanes on Indar, and the infamous, rightfully dreaded Alert system.

The former solidified the rather fluid and flexible old Hex capture system into a rigid one, forcing platoons upon platoons into an irresolvable, massive grindfest around the newly formed chokepoints. This meant that the game became much more static and easier to decipher on the strategical viewpoint. The system had been requested heavily by the nostalgic PlanetSide playerbase, as it had appeared in the original game, albeit with a wholly different set of mechanics and gameplay tailored to suit it. This was not and still certainly isn't the case for PlanetSide 2.

Besides that point, the game was certainly still playable, even though the other two continents at the time were mostly a ghost land. To change that aspect of the game, they decided to introduce the infamous Alert system. This would consist in a set of rather straight-forward objectives—initially capturing a continent, then also specific facilities, either globally or in a specific continent—to be completed in a limited amount of time, with a final reward. Sounds good, doesn't it?

Well, in theory, yes. In practice, this skewed what at the time was normal gameplay in favour of redeployside, also known as rapidly re-deploying from one base to another to quickly defend them. This was mostly at the favour of the faction with the highest population, with each server having its own faction bias. Essentially, we had gone from "capture/free Indar" to "wait for alert, then pour all your forces into x or y for profit". The population soon started dwindling, not only due to these two great development missteps, but also due to the degrading performance caused by lack of optimisation.

Time a few months, the "Operation Make Faster Game" or OMFG was announced. This consisted in a promise by the SOE President, and the developers themselves, to focus entirely on optimisation. After a while, the patch was pushed into Live servers. This brought back many players, as the noticeable degrade in UI look and overall quality of animations was compensated with much better overall performance. This was short-lived, as content started being dropped into the servers, and with it, new causes for overall performance degradation.

This was the history of my first year as a PlanetSide 2 player. Without mentioning the extremely half-arsed job at balancing the three factions without making them play the same, which caused months and months of the same weapon or vehicle being overpowered without anything being done to it. Moreover, the gameplay remains equally devoid of consequence: you log in, achieve a great objective in the hours you play, log out. Tomorrow, or even later that day, all the hard work you put in is erased.

This did not even include much about 2014, as I would say it was a pretty unremarkable year for the game's developmental cycle, and I was inactive throughout its last quarter. The most striking aspect of last year is the fact that the servers have since been performing horribly, with nothing being done towards it. This, coupled with the recent layoffs, as the company was recently sold and renamed, honestly contribute to my general disillusion concerning the game's future.

With all of this in mind, I sadly cannot recommend the game. However, by all means, give it a try. It's free.
