About Total War: ROME II - Emperor Edition:

Emperor Edition is the definitive edition of ROME II, featuring an improved politics system, overhauled building chains, rebalanced battles and improved visuals in both campaign and battle.

In addition, Emperor Edition includes all content and feature updates made available for ROME II since its launch in September 2013. These include Twitch.TV integration, touchscreen controls, new playable factions and units, and Mac compatibility.
The Imperator Augustus Campaign Pack and all Emperor Edition content and features are free, via automatic update, to all existing ROME II owners.

About the Imperator Augustus Campaign Pack

The Imperator Augustus Campaign Pack is a new playable campaign for ROME II, which rivals the original ROME II Grand Campaign in both scope and scale. This campaign comes as part of Total War™: ROME II – Emperor Edition and is available as a free, automatic update to existing owners of Total War™: ROME II.
The Imperator Augustus Campaign Pack is set in 42 BC during the chaotic aftermath of Caesar’s grisly murder. The republic remains whole, but its soul is divided as three great men, the members of the Second Triumvirate, hold the future of Rome in the palms of their hands.

Octavian, Caesar’s adoptive son and the heir to his legacy.

Marc Antony, Caesar’s loyal friend and most trusted lieutenant.

Lepidus, Pontifex Maximus of Rome and the man who secured Caesar’s dictatorship.

With the territories of The Republic divided between them and the military might of Rome at their beck-and-call, the members of The Second Triumvirate are each in a position to make a bid for leadership, and rule Rome as its first – and only – emperor.

However, external forces are on the move, looking to exploit the instability of Rome and expand their own territories. Will you fight as a defender of Rome and defeat the other members of the Triumvirate? Or lead another faction on a campaign of conquest and expansion, and take advantage of the chaos as the Roman civil war rages?

Playable Factions

Players may embark on a new Campaign as one of the following playable factions:
Marc Antony
Lepidus
Octavian
Pompey
Iceni
Marcomanni
Dacia
Egypt
Parthia
Armenia (also now playable in the ROME II Grand Campaign).

How far will you go for Rome?

The award-winning Total War series returns to Rome, setting a brand new quality benchmark for Strategy gaming. Become the world’s first superpower and command the Ancient world’s most incredible war machine. Dominate your enemies by military, economic and political means. Your ascension will bring both admiration and jealousy, even from your closest allies.

Will you suffer betrayal or will you be the first to turn on old friends? Will you fight to save the Republic, or plot to rule alone as Emperor?

✢ Plan your conquest of the known world in a massive sandbox turn-based campaign mode (supporting additional 2-player cooperative & competitive modes). Conspiracies, politics, intrigue, revolts, loyalty, honour, ambition, betrayal. Your decisions will write your own story.

✢ Build vast armies and take to the battlefield in real-time combat mode. Put your tactical skills to the test as you directly control tens of thousands of men clashing in epic land and sea battles.

✢ Play for the glory of Rome as one of three families or take command of a huge variety of rival civilisations – each offers a notably different form of gameplay experience with hundreds of unique units from siege engines and heavy cavalry to steel-plated legionaries and barbarian berserkers.

✢ See exotic ancient cities and colossal armies rendered in incredible detail, as jaw-dropping battles unfold. Detailed camera perspectives allow you to see your men shout in victory or scream in pain on the frontline, while a new tactical cam allows a god’s eye view of the carnage to better inform your strategic decisions.

✢ Extremely scalable experience, with gameplay and graphics performance optimised to match low and high-end hardware alike.

A must buy! Granted it was lacking a little at release but I think time (patches) has done this game a world of good. There are some fantastic mods out there that will give you effectively another games worth of play. Having notched up a 1000 hours myself I can confirm you will get your monies worth if you can get the DLC in some sort of offer.

I like rome 2, however it is not a full game, it contains lots of glitches and the ai are dumb, dumber than previous total wars.
The campaign map is very detailed, hover the politics system is nearly non existant and is difficult to find like it is not one of the main factors of the game. :(
I thought Creative Assembily would redifine the battles as well as making the graphics great; it has many bugs that the source engine
had with previous total war games. Rome 1 and medieval 2 are better games in my eyes as they had problems yes, but they dealt with them and it was not unplayable like it was sometimes on rome 2.
This is why I am giving Rome 2 a negative review because it is not worth the money or the time buying all the extra dlc that I did :/
If you can put up with the issues , go ahead, buy it :D and enjoy.

Fun for a little while.

After Empire : Total war.. any franchise has a stupid feature in it where the AI nation/faction gets an increase in their total number of units by the end of every turn.. despite that faction being bankrupt...

So in the end.. the winner is the one with the bigger stack of units.

A big money grub by Creative Assemblies.. Rome II showed CA's true colors.. a mafia firm with plenty of idiotic customers who still spend money on newer franchises.. not to mention the latest fantasy Warhammer (L-O-L)

Would highly recommend this game to anyone who is either just getting started with the Total War franchise or has been playing them for awhile. The only thing I'm not a fan of is starting off with an already established Roman empire campaign. In some ways it can be more difficult to maintain a large empire if you haven't had experience doing it before, which can be frustrating. Overall, I think this is a fantastic game!

Here are the three steps for finishing the campaign:

- Survive around 30-40 turns with 'green diplomacy'
- Recruit some 'Phalanx' guys
- It's over, start thinking about another campaign

Honestly, if the Medieval Total War 1 had such a multiplayer option, I wouldn't even have a look at the store page of this game.

Hail to the inquisitors!

Prior to buying Rome II I've owned every Total War title except Napoleon. I bought it last spring in a Steam sale for $15. Totally worth it at that price. Since it's coming on three years since release I feel it ought to be $30 now, maybe $45 or $60 if they included all or much of the DLC content.

I've grown to really like this title. Diplomacy is a major improvement. At first I didn't like general/army system, but the lack of tedium in army replenishment has really grown on me too. There are certain things I still like better in the RTW/M2TW engine. Battles feel better in melee and I liked the city building aspect better. Surprisingly I've not really missed the family tree. But I feel as a whole R2 is a much better game compared to RTW and M2TW. When comparing mods it's too subjective. I still like RS, EB and Stainless Steel, but I'm quite content playing Rome II in vanilla or DEI now and have been too lazy to reinstall the older titles.

SO for a while now I have owned Rome 2 total war and I didnt own it at launch mainly because total war has a history of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ launches and I was right to wait. But anyway, Now this game is one of my favorites beside Shogun 2. The massive battles and sieges are a ton of fun. Not to mention tons of mods to make gameplay more interesting and exciting. I own most of the dlc and they are excellent. I definetely recommend this game.

Look at my game hours and see that I am not commenting on ignorance!

I have played Rome 2 since it first came out long ago, and it was virtually unplayable for months after initial release.
I kept playing after a few months of patches and free factions came into it, and was amazed I could play the game with LESS game breaking crashes.
Seriously not looking good at this point, I kept playing (Against all logic) and learned the game was broken in more ways than bugs. The AI will kill itself in time, so no point doing anything. I hear the AI is better now and try again only to find the Ai needs cheat income, food, and sanitation becuase to fix its self destructive issues.
I can confirm the AI is, and always was, utterly broken and never fixed properly.

Deplomacy is also terrible with less options within it than Shogun 2, or even Rome 1!
(Keep that brief as everyone else has hit this point a thousand times)

Finally, the factions are just wrong. Everyone fights in formations which is not right, unit stats are crazy, and it feels all factions are built from the same base with no actual individuality. It seems balancing was more inportant than character and historic accuracy. An even bigger shame they didn't get that right either

All in all, this is a very lazy game and a shameful stain on Total War. A perfect example of the decay of game industry standards and the new game making philosophy of not caring for pubilc opinion, so long as certain sales targets are met and then abondoning the game and its comunity while promising better next time.

Don't waste your time like I did on this.

My favourite total war game
Lets start.
I loved that game since the moments i saw the first trailer and bought it immediatly upon release
The grand campaign is best for any gamestyle or faction since most of the factions at the begining are equally big.the emperor edition is also great with great new features.my favorite dlc is the one with the peloponisian war and as a greek myself ican rell is very realistic i would buy this game at any price.i cant comment about the supposed bugs and crashes and other terrible technical stuff that existef upon release since i dint experience them at any campaign or custom battle.maybe i was lucky.ilove the Tw series and hope they continue making games like this ☺

Ps tw warhammer is the worst idea for a fantasy TW ever i hated it

I'm more than 50 hours into the grand campaign as Rome. I think it could easily last 80 hours. I've really enjoyed this game and it has lots of replayability. At some point I'll probably do the Imperator Augustus campaign that comes with it for free as well.

If you can get this game on sale, got it for 12 dollars, it's a no brainer. The issues of the past are gone and it is better than Shogun 2 in my opinion.

As a bonus, it has got me into history more. Specifically Roman history.

There are issues, but if you can pick this up for 15 dollars or less it's a no brainer.

This game had a terrible launch but since the release of the emperor edition things have got a lot better. Most of the game breaking bugs have been fixed and the abysmal AI is at least playable now. I wouldn't let the bad AI take away from what is a very good, higly detailed strategy game. But nowhere near as good as the original. 8/10

Edit: I fully recommend you play this with the Divide et Impera mod.

Excellent game with use of mod's: great battle scenarios with strategy for disposition and selection of forces, very interesting trait and skill development of major characters, as well as surprises such as ambush battles. Enjoyable small campaigns (Hannibal at the Gates, Caesar in Gaul, to name a couple) with opportunity for development of other campaigns: Parthia, Britain, Spain, Dacia, and so forth. The major campaigns (Grand and Imperator Augustus) have very interesting dynamics: politics and conquest. Incorporation and ready access to mod's have been a tremendous benefit to participants. Looking forward to additional features.

When compared to watching a 2 hour movie for 10 dollars. I have got my moneys worth with this game.
I wish that they didn't stray into the magical realm with the new upcoming warhammer total war but I understand you have to give the players what they want even if its steam punk meets harry potter looking crap that has gears with no function what so ever.

Before this the only Total War I had real experience with was Medieval 2, and I've gotta say, I'm glad I picked this up. Thank you, franchise sale, because Rome 2 is my favorite strategy game experience ever. The world map management feels like a combination of Sid Meier's Civ V and Total War, and the research tree is a cool addition to the building. My only complaint about the world map is that it does feel a little oversimplified; definitely do your campaigns above "normal" difficulty if you want a real challenge.

Diplomacy is easier to do than ever before and it actually makes sense; your standing with a particular faction and its allies will actually affect what kind of treaties they'll enact with you, if any at all, and you're less likely to encounter random backstabbing. (Although why my client states maintain military alliances with countries I'm at war with I'll never know)

The actual battles are the same as before, with a pretty UI that tells you all you need to know and the addition of abilities - not just the formations, phalanxes, fire arrows, and stakes that we had before - but things like war cries to rally your own troops and intimidate the enemy all makes battles feel better and grittier. All the different types of battles are great too, and it's awesome having an online battle work out when you're the reinforcing navy coming rescue your teammates :P

All in all, would totally recommend this game, especially as a good starting point into the Total War franchise if you want something that's actually historical and cool

I have played all but one of the Total War games and I think this is a great addition. My only complaint is that diredting units on the battlefield can still be clunky but no more so than the other games in the series and in fact I would say it is a bit better in this edition than others.

It seems fairly well optimized for my PC, but I did have to turn down some of the graphics settings for the big battles when I had troop number maxes out. I run a GTX 760 though and I imagine if you have a 900 series card you should be able to play all maxed out. I got 121 hours of play out of this and did not even do the last scenario in Sparta. I may play that campaign later after a break, 121 hours and I think I have had enough for a bit, lol! I recoomend you get this game if you like the other games in the series. I had a great time with this.

I pre-ordered the game, I followed all the videos and promotional content they released before launch. I didn't complain about the pre-order DLC. From Rome 1 and Medieval 2 I had a very positive experience with CA and so I let the whole thing slide and show faith.

How do I feel now? I feel like my girlfriend I was with for five years tells me the night I propose to her, that she is running off to marry my best friend whom she was dating for 2 years behind my back. I feel THAT cheated.
Why?
Promotionally CA did its best to lure us to buy a game with high expectations: "40% higher budget", "it will look much better at launch, this is pre-alpha footage", "our goal is to make Rome 2 the best Total War game yet"
We trusted them and gave them money for a product we have not seen.
What did we get?

I'll state my positives so to be fair:
- Cinematic camera
- Addition of naval warfare (it is unplayable but is the best in the series :P)
- Depth and number of factions

To the important stuff:

Battles:
- Super awkward formations and unit movement
- No realistic collision between clashing units. Ironically Rome 1 had more realism than its successor
- Animation seems idiotic and fake
- Individual persons interact only 1v1, so if even if they are outnumbered one unit can survive waves after waves of enemies
- When charging, units awkwardly stop and lose momentum instantly (and this applies to the entire unit)
- Music is unspirational and does not change with battle conditions
- Control areas in open fields (whaaat??). Instead of playing the enemy and thinking strategically, you run to a controll area, stay for a little time and you win the battle
- Battles are super short
- AI is stupid beyond imagination
- Buggy and laggy as hell
- Naval battles are even more broken and buggy
- UI makes no sense, all units look exactly the same
- One spot for unit condition, so you lose precious time to understand all the status ailments of a unit e.g. fighiting, taking fire, firing etc.
- and much more

Campaign:
- AI is even more stupid than that in battles
- Diplomacy is broken with out any explanation of what led to an ally's/enemy's particular decision. AI decisions are spontaneous
- Very easy even in high difficulty level
- Building system makes no sense
- Loooooong wait turns
- and much more

Overall, Rome 2 is a beta game. It is blunt, boring and uninspirational
I attribute the fiasco to awful project management, but I can only speculate
I understand CA tried to mend it with continious patching, but a game so flawed in its core is unfixable no matter how you try to improve specific features. Also, when you talk about patching at launch, means you should not have launched in the first place.
