Play for free, keep your stuff! No resets at the end of Beta!

All purchases and unlocks are permanent. We call it Beta because we're still adding some pretty big features, but so far we have:

- Training and Solo play - for learning how to play, or casual fun
- Coop and PvP Matchmaking - quickly get matched against others
- Custom games and rules - when you want total control
- Player driven economy - didn't need that drop? Sell it to other players!
- Quests with ingame rewards - like Achievements, but better
- Leveling, progression, unlocks - level yourself, your AirMechs, expand your army
- NOT "pay2win" at all - check our reviews or ask players ingame
- Global chat, Factions, parties - integrated directly into the core UI
- Crafting system - added due to player demands
- VIP/Premium for LIFE with any purchase - because we're cool like that

Patch 29207 - Oktoberfest Toast to TotalBiscuit!

Hail To The King, Baby
We are honored to add TotalBiscuit to the roster of AirMech Pilots. He also earned a skin design through referrals, and he'll be picking his favorite mech once we exit beta, but for now we'll make due with his Tophat and beautiful chiseled face.

If you have been following TotalBiscuit's personal updates about his health, you're aware of his battle with colon cancer. He talks about it in detail here. He asked that we direct people to the Colon Cancer Alliance to learn more about what you can do for prevention and detection, or to make a donation.

New AirMech Event, and Gothic Osprey

This marks the first time we celebrate Oktoberfest in AirMech! The massive fair in Germany is now celebrated around the world in many different ways, but the most important thing about it is FUN! There's usually beer too, if your local laws are ok with that kind of thing. You'll find a nice selection of Oktoberfest themed treats to collect for a limited time.

We're also continuing our path of trying to get Gothic Variants of all the AirMech classes released as that's one of the most requested (and most purchased) skins. Gothic Osprey has landed, also giving our first "black" colored Osprey, quite a contrast to the typical skins for that mech!

Major Change to Server Selection

This patch also includes new code for estimating connections to game servers. We've been focusing on this the past week, making as many changes as we could just on the server side of things, but the final pieces required some client changes. Then, after we're sure most of the clients have patched, we'll flip the final switch on the server and (fingers crossed) get much more accurate data for what player performance will be on servers, and everyone should have better games as a result.

We'll be reviewing data over the next week to see how these changes are working out. Nothing is ever finished in AirMech until it's working right, so hang in there while we work the bugs out. We are confident this is the right path, and we have more insight into the strange cases that would let some players sneak into games they shouldn't be in.

Definitely leave us feedback in the forums, and keep reading threads there for updates as we work on it!

Patch 28323 - Matchmaking Overhaul with New Lobbies!

You might have heard we launched AirMech on Xbox 360 recently--the launch went amazingly smooth! With that out of the way, we really wanted to merge the new Matchmaking systems into PC (called Party2) which changes a whole bunch of things. We intended to do that before launching Xbox, but it was just too much work at the time.

As the PC version was always intended to be the main version of the game with all the latest features and content, it became super important to finish moving the one system that was more advanced on Xbox back to PC, so from here we can go forward with the latest and greatest code.

This is the first of a series of patches, and the focus is mainly to test the new Matchmaking. If you haven't been following the Canary updates, here's a summary:

  • To make a Party, first pick the game type in the Play menu, then Invite players into the empty slots. If you don't invite anyone, it will find others for you.
  • Your Party will stay together after you finish a game! You'll be placed back in a lobby after you win or lose a match.
  • There are no Party leaders--if you don't like someone in your Party, you should leave and create a new Lobby
  • If all humans on one side of a match leave, the game will end! This is something we really wanted for a long time.
  • To change your loadout in the Lobby, right or left click your own name
  • To change modes (parts/units/etc) right click the AirMech image
  • To change bot difficulty, click the bot "name" at the top (Solo 1v1 doesn't have this, but will be fixed next patch)
  • Ignore the prompts for gamepad and click the Queue and Ready buttons as needed. Queue means "get in the matchmaking line" and once all players are found you will be give the option to Ready up

We aren't sure how bug-free the new systems are, but that's what Beta is for. Definitely give us feedback about what is working, what need improving, anything you want in the forums. We really didn't want to continue fixing the old broken system of Party1, so now that we have moved to Party2 we are much more open to expanding and improving it.

  • Updates to AI behaviors for Survival modes with some tweaks to later waves
  • Added two unit wide formations to unit group movement!
  • Gothic Saucer has been added (and on sale for a limited time)
  • Moon Festival Cards are dropping, and all 4 can be crafted into a Mooncake Box using the Nanoforge
  • Moon Rabbit and Mooncake are available for a limited time
  • Part points have been increased for mk1->mk4 parts, from +1 to +2 per rarity level
  • Updated some of the secure points for Twin Peaks and Salt
  • Play Menu and Matchmaking UI have been updated
  • Main Menu music will now cycle through 4 different songs from the FLA original soundtrack!
  • Simple has been updated with some new art assets and renamed “Dust”
  • Fixers can now have orders assigned to them
  • Autobuilder (if enabled) will now build abilities as well as units
  • Add faction name to in game UI when teammate is in a common faction - drives new stats!
  • Increase view distance when in free-cam mode

Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed a bug on Spiral where the Striker could get out of the level
  • Fixed a bug where the chat window would go offscreen while in spectate mode
  • Fixing an issue with sonyas sliding long distances when placed next to units
  • Fix Saucer deathray damage when paused
  • Fixed issues with secure locations on some outposts on Salt
  • Fixed messaging on mail send failures due to mail banned accounts
  • Fixed chat issues with embedded links
  • Some fixes to replay playback
  • bugfix so recently destroyed airmechs don't 'block' additional shots
  • some fixes to position reconciliation (position snapping) of your AirMech in online games

Balance Changes:
  • Turn off AirMech collision damage against fences

Steam Exclusive Offer

Two Portal themed items are now available to all Steam players:

Companion Cube - Found in the ruins of a long abandoned facility, there's something about this utilitarian cube that compels you to keep it at your side. It follows your AirMech in battle acting as a faithful companion Pet until the end! Can be equipped in a Flair slot on any AirMech.

Sentry Turret - Blueprints for this turret were found in a large underground facility in use before the War. They seem to have been designed for use against humans, so this version is equipped with armor piercing rounds to make it more viable against the robot armies used in battle today. They are light and cheap, only effective against weaker units, but you can build a lot quickly to make them useful.

About This Game

"Early Access" review, as such it is subject to change as the game progresses.

I love AirMech and hate that I cannot recomend it.

AirMech is an interesting mix of MOBA and RTS elements with cool mechs and interchangeable pilots that add different stat bonuses.

You have Creeps that scurry across the map similar to a MOBA, but you capture outposts and use those to build units to either defend or attack, similar to an RTS.

There is a solo mode, co-op, and pvp. My experience is primarily in solo mode due to the exact reasons I cannot recomend this game.

Solo mode itself is limited to 60 minutes a day unless you upgrade your account to Silver VIP, purchasing Gold VIP or Prime will accomplish this as well.

Now then, to those "reasons" I hinted towards earlier. Carbon has designed AirMech without any form of lag compensation. Before the ping limit was added, if you joined a game with more than 150 ping you would cause screen freezes for everyone in the match.

Higher ping would cause dramatically worse freezes. For years, Carbon has said they are working on it and looking for a solution... Well, they found their solution. Carbon has added a rather low ping limit which limits high ping players strictly to solo play, you can not even have a private match with friends.

If your ping is affected by said ping limit, you will see this every time you log in:

FYI I'm based in the US

Carbon devs do not see this as an issue and act as if they do not care. I have been told that no games compensate for ping above 200 and that I should find another game after asking them about issues with ping, long before there was a limit.

As a Prime player, being told to find a different game by a lead dev after asking a question was off putting but I continued to play because I love the game.

Now in addition to all of the above, there are massive FPS drops that can only be fixed by changing video settings and this fix is only temporary, the drops will start again the next time the game is launched. Even the lobby is affected now, but that goes away once chat is hidden.

I have to lower my antialiasing to 0 and then bring it back up to 4 to stop the drops. Originally the devs blamed it on a bug with certain unit skeletons, and it has not been fixed. This began when Carbon started preparing AirMech for its Xbox 360 release and changed every UI in the game. Mind you my computer is above recomended requirements.

After all that has happened, my love for the game is wearing thin. I find myself not logging in to have fun but out of habbit to collect daily rewards. I can no longer play with my friends because Carbon has deemed the internet in my area unworthy.

Great Game its a mix of MOBA and RTS, its well done making it the first i've seen of its Kind.

- Gameplay is Steadily Paced

- Soundtrack is Awesome

- Cashshop is only for Cosmetics and Credits/XP Boost, but even then you can get a drop while playing.

All around its a fun game and to anyone that wants to try something new, give Airmech a shot you won't be dissapointed, its especially fun with friends.

Fast paced real time strategy game. A mixed genre of Dota and AoE type games, maybe? I don't know, but I loved it. Yeah, the matchmaking needs to get better. The community is not that big, so you get to play people that are too strong. With the new updates, there are problems with the servers... I almost gave it a NOT RECOMMENDED, but the game is good. It is not a pay to win. Of course you get certain advantages if you pay for the prime account, but it is a one time deal, and all of the stuff you buy with money are for looks. The items that give you advantages can be bought with game currency, wich is not hard at all to get, only takes a little time. I unlocked pretty much everything I wanted playing a couple of weeks. Of course, if you want nice Skins and BS you will have to pay. Just like paying for Guns in CS GO... again, AWESOME

Now I don't recommend the game, because for some time I have not been able to connect to any servers. I am from South America, and it sucks. At least if they had LAN conection or something, but it is a shame that more people won't know this game. I don't believe it will hurt them economically if they launch a LAN version. BS. More people will know the game, and more people will support it if they knew it. The Devs are probably not as smart.

This is a fast paced almost stratergy type game where you wage war against otyher player in mechg warfare to destroy there main base. I'd rate airmech a 6/10 because of dynamic play styles along with interesting play styles, this comines into an interesting user experience. Although it lacks in many feilds such as map design and balance along with player skill matching and a major lack of john snow. This is why i beleve that this game deserves a 6/10

Awesome Moba Strategy game with the feeling of Transformers and Gundam. Great community with Great Mods. You should definetly try it out. Note: They havent updated the Gameplay Screenshots in a VERY long time. Probably around 1 Year. So if you want to see some gameplay. Consider downloading the game and try for yourself. As most of the videos are outdated. Because Carbon Updates Airmech maybe a 1-4 times in a month.

9.5/10 Please correct my grammar if i have spelled something wrong. Ty

I dont recommend this game in its current form.
Now, I do think you should get it in say, 2-3 months, give or take, but right now its confusing. The start tutorials are repetetive. That cant really be fixed, but it should be made so you can jump right into the game. The graphics also remind me of Myst, for the windows XP and lower. As far as I have played, combat consists of flying around and shooting, or walking and shooting. The chat rooms are full of 7 year olds pretending to be 16 by pretending they are going through puberty.
Therefore, dont get this until its fixed.

It's fun! This is my first foray into this genre, so I don't really have much to compare it to, aside from RTS's I've played in the past. It's kind of RTS meets transformers. Where it's different from RTS is that you have full control of your "hero" but either no or only some control over the units you build, depending on what kind of unit it is. For example, you can tell your tank to attack the nearest enemy outpost, or hold position, but you can't really issue complex orders in the middle of a fight (good luck getting your units to fall back - about all you can do is pick them up and carry them to safety - maybe)
A few complaints: The controls are a bit awkward and I had to spend some time switching my keybinds around until I got them to where I felt comfortable with them. The game also restricts some of its content and ingame currency unless you pay for it (unlocking Silver VIP status or better) and without that, the game can feel kind of grindy. Completing 'quests' helps, but even with that, you might need to do 10 matches just to unlock one new unit or piece of equipment. I also ran into some UI glitches that caused the chat to disappear and become unrecoverable, and sometimes UI elements persist in the background behind other UI elements when they shouldn't.
Overall, though, I do recommend it, which is saying something if you consider that this genre isn't something I thought I'd be interested in.

Wow! This is a VERY fun game, especially if you have a quick reaction time. I've never seen anything like this, but here are comparable game-types that this is like:

DOTA-like tower-defense
Real-Time-Strategy with less micro-managing
Any gundam or mech-fighter-aircraft suit game
Those arcade aircraft shooter games where you move your aircraft around the screen, dodging and shooting.
Again, Starcraft II, but because you unlock units and other items as you score points from playing.

Any fan of any of the above game types NEEDS to play this game. It will one day be one of those "Yeah, everybody's played that" games. The start of a new niche.
