The alone executable extension rebellion grinds Sins of a Solar Empire definitive finding on the space strategy jewel.
Rebellion in the current three playable factions split into two sub-groups so that we can build our star with six different parties kingdom now. Since all have their own special units and technologies, we start new batches future to all the dear. And that's not even the most important innovation, rebellion has even bigger in store. Not to say: Titans.
In orbit of our planet, we are building research laboratories, shipyards, defense platforms, trading post or starbases; we are building raw materials, collect taxes, conduct trading, moving through diplomatic parquet and send naturally fleets in space battles.
The latter we propose to up to ten computer controlled or (in multiplayer mode via LAN or Internet) human opponents, which also wrestle on the infinitely zoomable map Galaxy for the upper hand.
We put the starting conditions laid individually, such as the map size, the six-enemy AI or frame events such as regular pirate raids. With rebellion also win new opportunities are added, such as diplomacy or research. Thus, each player can cope tailor it according to his needs.
- Vasari Loyalists, for instance, have a hate on for pretty much all other races, and can eat planets.
- Vasari Rebels, on the other hand, are more easygoing when it comes to buddying up with other species, and they specialize in nanotechnology.
- TEC Loyalists are all about defense, with cheaper starbases and the ability to deploy two of these behemoths around planets.
- TEC Rebels are all about conquest and can ally with pirates and neutrals to go on the offensive.
- Advent Loyalists are aggressive mind-controllers out to assimilate enemies.
- Advent Rebels are a little more on the spiritual side and can revive destroyed ships.
Graphically, Rebellion is a good looking game on the PC, especially on full detail. Even though at times the graphics may seem a little bland, there is some great attention to detail in the game, and some really cool particle effects when enemies are blown to hell.
There are some nice cut scenes that assist in the overall story telling of the title. Finally a great soundtrack and some subtle sound effects that assist in immerging you into this intergalactic battle or loyalists and rebels of the various factions. All in all, gameplay, graphics and sound comes together in a way that makes this an addictive yet entertaining gaming experience.
When the Titans is huge flagships, each player may only build one - and that's a good thing, because the Titans prove to be extremely powerful. So runs each of the six parties on a chic, custom titanium with their own special abilities.
For the construction of our flying fortress, we must first, however once unlock a four-stage research branch, provide enough fleet and crew capacity, build a titanium shipyard and apply masses of money, resources and patience - as does the work.
As a reward for their efforts rewarded with a large and magnificent flagship, which often serves as the last knight in shining armor. Particularly spectacular it is when two titans led by fleets meet - in the following large-scale battle it hails explosions such as tomatoes after a bad concert.
Overpowering the Titans are not, however, because of the upgraded starbase and huge naval formations they bite without support from the teeth. Since all size does continue the balance.
The bottom line is extended Rebellion game mechanics of Sins of a Solar Empire so meaningful and thought out, from a mere extent of the addon should veterans but be a little disappointed. All the more so since they again have to buy the complete package for the new features.
This is an excellent game, with loads of new options and an incredible amount of tactical depth, it does show the age of the series. Until that game launches, however, you can get your space-empire fix from this outstanding stand-alone expansion, which contains enough ways to conquer a galaxy to tide you over for a very long time.
