Wat de ontwikkelaars zeggen:

Waarom vroegtijdige toegang?

“We know that creating significant and meaningful on the eSport scene is no small task and this is why that we have involved the players community since the very beginning of the development (when there was no menu or options... Or texture )!
While there is still much to be done, we believe that our game is now ready to enter a new phase and we are ready to open our game to more through early access and use this opportunity to make it reach its full potential!”

Hoelang blijft deze game ongeveer in vroegtijdige toegang?

“Until we reach a level where we can confidently organize pro-caliber tournament!
We expect it to take somewhere between 6 months and 1 year.”

Hoe gaat de volledige versie verschillen van de versie met vroegtijdige toegang?

  • Less gameplay & connexion bugs
  • Better performance optimisation
  • Better lag management
  • Team system
  • Ranked mode
  • New characters
  • New implants
  • Improved spectator mode
  • Voice acting for characters
  • Dedicated servers
  • As well as other choices based on choice from the community playing the game!

Wat is de huidige staat van de versie met vroegtijdige toegang?

“Core gameplay and meta-game are ALPHA. Fun is definitely there!
Still a lot of small bugs and visual polish to be done.
A few important features missing (team, rank, spectator mode).”

Zal de game anders geprijsd worden tijdens en na vroegtijdige toegang?

“No!
Arena: Cyber Evolution is FREE and will always remain so. :-)”

Hoe zijn jullie van plan de community te betrekken in het ontwikkelproces?

“Community is already actively part of Arena: Cyber Evolution since the very beginning (even when the game was so early it looked like an atari 2600 game). Here are a few initiatives already in place to interact with our players:
  • Daily design meeting on our Twitch channel (7PM ET every week day)
  • Open discussion about the design and development on our Steam forum
  • Our design documents are open and available for the community to see
  • Our entire development now archived on Youtube
  • Many people of our community take active part in the project (community management, QA, event organization, design, etc)
  • Supporters will get to vote for the next features we develop!

Over dit spel

At Spearhead Games, we believe that e-sports are the next step in international competition. We believe that this growing trend is on the verge of becoming mainstream globally and will play a significant role in defining the future of sports.

Arena: Cyber Evolution is the result of our passion for this phenomenon and what it can become.
We know that creating a game that is significant and meaningful on the e-sport scene is no small task and this is why that we have involved the player community since the very beginning of the development, when there were no menus, options, or even textures!

Arena: Cyber Evolution (ACE) is a futuristic physics-based sports game in which players confront each other in 3 vs 3 matches of wits and twitch reflexes.
By featuring a MOBA-like champion logic, ACE brings an unprecedented twist to the sports genre by allowing players to choose from a variety of super-powered heroes and what style of gameplay they prefer to build their own team strategies.

Designed from the ground up around the mouse & keyboard, ACE was not envisioned only as a sport game, but really as a new sport.

ACE’s ultra-precise control scheme allows players to analogically manipulate the disk using simple mouse gestures.

Just like in real sports, this gameplay allows for super intuitive gameplay while proposing nearly infinite depth & skill cap.

  • An unique blend of action games, sports games and MOBA.
  • The closest experience to playing a traditional sport in a video game.
  • Dynamic physics-based gameplay that is both deep and accessible.
  • Innovative mouse gesture control allows for fluid and natural actions (passes, shots, intercepts and jukes).
  • Having all human players makes positioning meaningful and allow for infinite team strategies.
  • Several characters each with unique powers and play styles
  • Unlock implants (to improve and customize your characters), team boosts, upgrades, and special abilities.
  • Very fun to watch as a spectator - even without prior knowledge of the game.
  • New characters, implants, custom arenas, events, challenges, and much more coming soon! New updates regularly!

Arena: Cyber Evolution is free to play and we want it to stay this way forever. We believe that it should be at the core of any sport to be accessible for everyone to play and practice no matter what.
As an independent game studio, we however need some money to keep developing the game and improving it.

This is why we integrated monetization features in the game with the possibility to buy skins, hats and other customizations with real money (but never pay to win mechanics!). For us, this is a simple way to allow players who really enjoy and believe in the game to support its continued development by ‘’donating’’ and receiving rewards for it.

In addition to the items available in-game, the following great packages are available as DLC:

Supporters Pack DLC

Founders Pack DLC

Champions Pack DLC

Pillar Pack DLC

Ok, this game has taken way too much of my time and I don't regret it at all. This is the kind of game that keeps you going until dawn and makes you late for work. I simply love this game and I'm gonna tell you why.

PROS

- The gameplay is awesome, intuitive and rewarding. For new players, it may seem a little weird because it's so different to what we're used to. Once you start to get the hang of it, you can do a lot of different things like scoring goals with wall bounces, using different abilities to do crazy moves, develop strategies to fool the opposing teams, etc. The game is easy to pick up, but hard to master.

- The community is by far the most amazing community I've ever had the chance to be a part of. New players are welcomed and invited to games so they can learn and team up with other players to create an even better experience. Also, streams are regularly held on the official Hitbox channel of Spearhead Games and it's how we all get together to play a few/many matches. Events are also organised to give both a casual and competitive experience to the game's players.

- Speaking of competitive tournaments, this is the part that I love the most. Every weekend, competitive tournaments are held to see who are the top dogs of the A:CE community. This is where people come to play and give their 110% to get 1st place and win prizes. Also, you don't have to be an experienced player to compete in these events, you just have to sign up and maybe bring some friends with you as well. If you want to know more about these events, go to ace-esports.com

CONS

- Lack of players. The game's not popular enough yet, so you can't really experience the game to its fullest potential at any time you want. A way to counter this negative point is to play when the stream is live so you can actually get in a game with actual people instead of getting queued up with bots.

- Bugs. The game is still in Early Access, so it's bound to have some. I think I speak for the whole community when I say we just live with it. They can be annoying sometimes but we just shrug it off.

TL;DR

The game is amazing and has a very competitive feel to it. It's still in development and needs more players but once you get hooked by the sound of the stream caster shouting your name as you score the game winning goal and every single member of the community goes WTF WHO IS THIS GUY I NEED HIM ON MY TEAM?!?!, you'll never want to stop playing.

1st impression of ACE.

Not the prettiest game in the world...But and its a big BUT this game has a lot of scope to be a clasic. Sure player numbers are low right now but thats not the games fault thats just marketing.

I spent ten solid hours in one sitting playing this and although few in number the guys who have played this for a while seem very nice. No noob abuse and when I pointed out that they were hard to match due to their upgrades every one of them dumpped their upgrades and went vanilla for me, can a noob ask for more.

I would suggest downloading this and spending a few hours playing.

Would i spend money on it in store? I dont know yet as I have a rule about spending on F2P games. If you can get everything via ingame cash that you can with $ and $ gives no advantage then ill pay but i have not played enough to assess this as of yet.

Overall first 10 hours I'd give 8/10. Lost marks explained below.

-1 :No in match chat or voip so for new guys or ppl with no 3rd party voip coodination may be an issue.

-1: Matchmaking at this time can put noobs in with tooled up vets making for some very unbalance play if the vets dont realise you are new or just dont care and keep their boosts active. ( this may be due to player numbers however so take this one with a pinch of salt)

Great game, not perfect though. if the community was big enough for an actual matchmaking this would be my favorite game.

Pros
+If Hockey had super powers... and a huge, hexagonal puck... and less players on the ice....... and no physical play..... this would be it.
+You can strategize, do stuff like dump & chase, can be offensive or defensive... can do set plays can practice 1v1 2v1 2v2 2v3 3v3..............
+You can do some super long stretch passes that are extremely satisfying when they hit.
+A lot of deking involved. A lot of it.
+Very simple. WASD, space, shift and the mouse buttons and you're golden.
+Playing defensively is just as effective/more effective than offensively (I'm trying to say both work well so it's not "too much offense" or "wayyy not enough offense")
+Very, very fast-paced play development (kind of slow movement though, without implants)
+Extremely easy to learn, extremely easy to get better
+You can join teams make teams beat teams and even lose to teams.
+Tournaments every Saturday to Wednesday for guaranteed human 3v3 gameplay.
+Stream every day for guaranteed human interaction.
+Veterans are very friendly and always willing to help you learn.
+Jethro Tull

Cons
-Since it's Early Access, there are bugs. Unfortunately, some bugs are game-breaking and lead to goals and can single-handedly cost you games or win you games (for example, a shot too hard on the post sometimes counts as a goal. Or VS's right click shot on Hiro's Ult goes in and out of the net and doesn't count)
-No replays
-Small community
-Goaltending, once you're a good goalie, is too easy. Sure, VS and Hikari have strong shots but other than those 2, every shot is a pass and if you're positioned correctly you should make the easy save. Also gets repetitive a bit, you don't really have to do that much as goalie, it's not like in hockey where the goalie is like a monkey in the cage, or anything you're just moving and rotating tbh.
-2v2(goalies not included) means very little strategic depth. You can do plays but you can't have a set system like 1-3-1, 1-4, 1-2-2, 3-2, etc.
-One of the players in this game is way too good and can beat the next 3 best players with bot teammates almost (Actually I'd genuinely want to see if he could). Too far ahead of the game :(

+/- Every 5 levels you get a free skin OR a free hat, chosen completely randomly. This means everyone has multiple skins. So skins have very little value... But free skins and hats! Whoever could complain about this? ;)

All in all, the positives far outweigh the negatives.

I suggest you get this game and tune in every day on Spearheadgames' hitbox tv channel and meet the community, maybe join in the tournaments and find out what this game is all about.

Good game, lacks in a few aspects, but as it is an early access game by a small studio I would still reccomend the game.

As of now, the developers are improving the game (I started playing when it was released on steam, the game has improved greatly). While there are some bugs, mediocre severs, and mechanics that need to be overhauled. The game is still extremely fun when you get into it. Make sure you follow the hitbox channel (or twitch, but I don't believe many people are on the twitch one) to join mini tourneys, community streams, and the e sports events.

To the devs:

A few simple things that could be changed to bump up my rating:

Rounded posts: The square posts have to be changed. Simply rounding them would easily make the experience better, and improve the flow of gameplay.

5v5 mode: Yes I know this has been suggested, and despite the small community I still believe it should be included asap. It would purely make the game better, 3v3 has limited potential in a sports setting. So I firmly believe 5v5 is needed, seeing as the full release is planned for November (last I heard) implementing a 5v5 mode should be doable by then. Just make a larger arena for it.

Better servers: If you ever want this game to get big, you'll need to have servers that can handle a lot of people at once. Also try to improve the na-eu connection, as in tournaments the server should not be a deciding factor (though having seperate na and eu esports should be a goal in the future)

More Simon: He should really be the face of ace, photoshop him onto Mr. Harrison for the intro. Have Simon skins for each runner.. I'd actually pay for that tbh.
