Spoiler Alert Standard Edition now live!

By popular demand we've launched the Standard Edition of Spoiler Alert. Initially we felt like we should just release the Collector's Edition on Steam - justifying a higher price point. However it was a mistake. We admit that people need to have the option to buy a standard and collector's edition, doesn't matter which platform you're on.

So now the Standard Edition is out, and costs $2.99 on Steam.

It goes in-line with the estimated price we'll have on mobile platforms.

Meanwhile checkout how to make a Spoiler Alert level in the Workshop:

On the length and future of Spoiler Alert

On behalf of Jeff from MEGAFUZZ:

Hi all,

We realize the game is very short. So far, this has actually been the most common critique. And for this, we apologize. Let me address this.

First off, we hope to see a lot of user created levels to further add value to the game (that is why we added the level editor). If nothing else, I will start putting it to good use myself! I did make all the original levels, after all - so I should be able to stuff in some hopefully fun levels.

Second, it has always been our plan to keep the game alive not only through the level editor, but by also adding more content in future updates. We do have a lot of plans for game mechanics and worlds we haven't made "reverse" fun of yet, so there's definitely a lot of stuff we can and do plan to put in. We've also planned updates with completely free new worlds. Even though we don't have a date for this yet, we hope this will also help you feel you actually got some bang for your buck.

Most importantly, we have never even thought about just releasing this game and then abandon it - it's important to us to keep it going for a good while after release along with the community - and to engage with the people playing it.

Lastly, we're very happy and grateful for your support - and thrilled that, even in spite of the short length, some of you seemed to enjoy it. To those who didn't - we hope you will find the new future worlds more exciting! :)

Spoiler Alert is a video game that tests your platforming skills… in reverse. It’s a comedy platformer that you play backwards.

When you pick this game up, it has already been beaten. The big bad boss is defeated, the coins are collected and the princess has been rescued. Why, oh why?
Unraveling this mystery takes you through the entire game, from the last level to the first. You must uncollect the coins, revive the enemies and avoid nasty time paradoxes. In other words, you must uncomplete the game by playing it backwards.

Everything in this game is so familiar, yet so different and new. You have played it a thousand times before, and at the same time, you have never tried anything like it.

Spoiler Alert is a Unique Game, which seems Similar to a Super Mario type game.. With a Twist After Completion of the Last Level of the Game. you play the Entire Game In reverse. and if you miss something that happend in the Past it Causes a Time Paradox.

and you have to restart the Level. so this Fun Addictive and Slightly Rage Worthy Game is worth the small £2 on Steam.

i played this game During the EGX London 2014 Expo and met the Developer Jeff Jensen, Decent Fella and Great Game.
he hit me up with this Game for Free so i could do this for my Youtube Channel.

P. S. - Mariachi's soundtrack is love.

Backwards. Everything is just... There are zombie garden gnomes, penguins with mustaches, army snails, big rolling dwarfs, aliens, grumpy cactuses they'll light up in the moment you create time paradox and kill yourself. You're Red Hot Chilipepper and thanks to super suits, you can be a hammerhead shark or a dragon. Spoiler ahead!

It's really shame this game is so short, I really enjoyed it!

Don't buy unless its a quarter and just want to add another game to your collection with achievements and cards otherwise its a misallocation of funds that can be used to buy a myriad of better games on steam.

The game is nasty, brutish and short as Hobbes would say.

I liked DLC Quest, so this looked like something up my alley. Fun art style, creative premise. Verdict: it's not buggy, at least, but I found it frustrating and unfulfilling.

I heard a story once of a tech support rep with a caller whose problem was particularly baffling. They went through troubleshooting steps for an hour or so to no avail, and then someone else took the phone and apologized. They explained that the caller was a patient in a mental hospital who called tech support lines for someone to talk to. He had no computer, but he learned the proper responses to troubleshooting questions by calling a new rep each time he was discovered. He had managed to get through several issue escalation levels with this trial and error method.

Playing this game felt like being that patient: repeating the same actions over and over with tiny tweaks for each death, allowing me to progress a little further through the meaningless exercise. I got 100% through the whole game in an hour and a half this way. Gameplay is uninteresting; physics is not changed by the reversal of time, and later levels introduce no significant twists.

Maybe this will be fun for you. If it were a free Flash game, it would be a good game, especially the twenty seconds which you play forwards and then backwards, establishing the choices you'll have to repeat. But I didn't think it was worth $3 and an hour.

Pros:
* Cheap
* Unusual premise
* Level editor
* Linux support
* Controller support
* Frequent checkpoints

Cons:
* Short
* Minimal story
* Uninteresting twitch puzzles

I have gotten perfect ratings on all 90 levels AND all the "bonus" mariachi levels, and have all the achievements, a feat which took probably less than an hour of total playing time. And it was... sort of fun. But the game is not good. The controls aren't tight, the hit detection is awful, and the level design makes NO sense as a "game in reverse" - if you were playing these levels "forward" they wouldn't work at all. It's just a platforming puzzle (and I use "puzzle" loosely) set up to be done backwards. And the level design is uninspired, to the point where even 90% of the way into the game they're still throwing in levels with only one or two jumps / obstacles in them, no tougher than the stuff at the very beginning.

There are some promising ideas in here. But I played all the way through it not because I was having a great time, but to see if there was anything better further in. There was not.

This game is way too easy and way too short. After 44 minutes I have 100% achievement progress; I beat the game in just under half an hour. Watching the credits is the most time consuming achievement.

The longest level of the game takes about 12 seconds to complete, there are several levels where you just need to jump one or two times to complete it.

You get a gold medal if you beat the level first try, but you can easily reset the level via the escape menu, so every try counts as first try. Since there are no checkpoints, there is no difference except in hearing the first 20 seconds of the music over and over again.

The idea for the game is nice, but it is not enough. You are automatically running backwards and mostly just jump over obstacles. It's a very bad and very easy version of Bit Trip Runner. In the whole game (including bonus stages and everything) you just use the Up-Key to jump and in about 30 levels you use the Z-Key for "actions". The actions are NEVER challenging. The hardest parts of the game include about 3 pixel-perfect jumps, you have to master. But because the levels are so short and you can restart them as you want, you will get these jumps by luck or training within one minute.

For achievement hunters like me, this game might be quite acceptable, since it is an easy 100% in less than an hour (10 achievements total).

But if you want to play a game for fun and/or challenge, you should rather play Runner 2. And if you like the concept of playing a game "backwards", try out Braid. It's not exactly that, but it has many elements of what is on your mind.

To be constructive, what the game needs:
- More challenge (e.g. don't have one "action skill" at a time, but have them all, so you use more than just 2 keys)
- Better level design and longer levels
- Another concept for getting Gold medals (e.g. don't have a time paradoxon, but give Gold to those, who can undo every object of the level)
- I think, this would be nicer, if you did not auto-run; although you then had to rethink the whole concept of the game
- Make more things, that make the game "backwardsy", like: A very high jump move, with which you can reach high platforms (from which the character originally fell down), but if you don't reach a high platform with the jump, you have a paradoxon

All in all: Don't buy it for more than 1€ or $. It's not worth it.

PS: There might be Workshop-Userlevels, that are better than the games original levels, but I rated the game here and not usermade content. The game itself should be good enough for a play and the userlevels should be an extra.

While the premise was funny, I ended up finding this game pretty lame. The physics were downright terrible. It's worth a quick play if you can get it for around $1, but it's not worth even close to full price.

While the game was fun & slightly addicting, it was pretty short. I managed beat all the worlds with gold and got all 10 achievements in less than an hour. I guess I expected something a little more in-depth for the price.

This is so sweet little game, I really don't understand this negative critics. I really enjoyed playing it. It's good for relaxing. Is true that is short, but for this amount on money (I bought it for 1 euro on 67% sale) it worth for! Also this is perfect game for achievement's hunters! I highly recommend it anyway...

Always fun to play a game that turns known game mechanics upside down and add a twist to it. This time you reverse play a simple platformer from finish to start, albeit that the levels are getting harder once you reach the beginning of each of the three world. You can finish this game in about an hour, getting all the achievements. Didn't have the patients to do it =). Funny game for in between the serious stuff.

Oh, and running from right to left in a platformer is quite refreshing :D:

Fun if short platformer. The gimmick is that you have to undo the actions you see in the world -- so killed enemies have to be jumped on, you must collect greyed out coins but leave gold ones be, etc.

The developers have committed to keep adding levels to the game from time to time and in the mean while there are the Steam workshop levels.

I have two problems with this game:
1) jumps are very floaty, so it will take a while before you can start to anticipate where you actually will land.
2) this is a problem with the entire concept: you start in the last world and go back to the start, but the "last" world (first level you play) is by far the easiest and the "first" (last one) is incredibly difficult. This does not make sense if the game really is supposed to be a platformer you play backwards.

But overall, I recommend it.

7.2/10 Fun, frustrating, but overall good speedrunner game with somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 levels to get perfects on. Speedrun challenge is also really fun. Concept for game is different, un-beating the game is weird cause you want to destroy all the enemies but some you just gotta leave alone.

Pros: Can play for short time or long time and still enjoy it; Lots of levels; Level Editor is neat + custom levels are fun.

Cons: Not having control over your speed sucks sometimes; Sometimes jumps didn't register causing frustration. Short (about 1-2 hours total).

Overall, if you like speedrunners and going for perfect scores, this will keep you entertained if you'll re-beat levels. Otherwise it is a fairly short game, so keep that in mind.

Good game, concept is unique - but it's lacking content and difficulty. I finished the game before I could even collect all trading cards... 1 hour max to get all achievements. Hopefully the developer will make bonus backs and extra levels with harder difficulty because this was just disappointing.
