Über dieses Spiel

In One Way Heroics, you take on the role of an intrepid adventurer who must travel across the land and face the Demon Lord before a mysterious shadow engulfs everything.

Darkness always approaches from the left, and with each movement or action you take, the void creeps ever closer. Forced to run right, you'll encounter any number of monsters, allies, thieves and shops on your desperate journey to stop the end of everything.

The good news is that you don't just have access to one world. You have access to all of them.

  • A nearly infinite number of worlds to save and explore!
  • Multiple classes to unlock, each with different skills and advantages.
  • Dimensional Vault: Don't waste extra valuables! Lock away your inventory and save it for your next run!
  • Time control: when the going gets tough, the tough freeze time and work out a new strategy.
  • Steam goodies: trading cards, emoticons and wallpapers that proudly broadcast your OWH finesse!

Every world is different and unique. Lust forests or corrupted hellscapes, adorable animals or cunning thieves, each departure is a roll of the die. You might find likeminded heroes willing to journey with you, or you might meet no one and be forced to venture into the unknown alone.

Like a dimension you previously visited? Simply input the name at the Dimensional selection screen before you begin your journey. Want to try your luck with a random reality? Type any word that pops into your head, and watch as One Way Heroics builds you a world based on the name you chose.

Infinite permutations. Infinite worlds. Infinite adventure.

*This game supports Cloud Saves for most system data including clear data and unlockables, however mid-game saves do not carry over.

One Way Heroics is a 2D overhead rogue-like game where you're constantly escaping from an ever encroaching black mist coming from the left. If the mist catches up to you, or you die then it's completely game over and you start again while given the option to retain some of the items from this run, unlocking various new features classes and goodies along the way.

The game, at first, gives you a constant drive to play. The classes seem interesting and relatively varied and unlocking new skills, classes, and goodies in general is a fun. The interface and visuals are basic but well fleshed out and feel great, giving a bit of nostalgia to the 8-bit era of games like Dragon Quest Warrior. However, the issues with the game become apparent after the honeymoon period wears off.

The first of two major issues is the most unique aspect of the game - the darkness. The darkness was undoubtedly designed to create a sort of pacing and pressure, and at first it does. But once you become accustomed to the pacing of the game all it really does is discourage exploration. So long as you don't explore you'll never run into any problems with the darkness. But I happen to enjoy exploring!

The second is in the balance of the game. I think the best way to illustrate this is with one particularly absurd example. The main villain in the game is the demon lord. He'll occasionally fly in and you're supposed to wack at him a bit, constantly denting his hp a bit, until he flies away only to come back again. Rince, wash, repeat, until he's dead and the credits roll. One major strength of his is in shields - each time he appears, he has up to 45 layers of shields that need to be removed before you can even start damaging him. With a mellee class that might do just a few hits per turn at most while he's pounding on you with all he has - this is a big problem. For a mage class? Well for some reason their attacks go right through the shields. On the hardest difficultly level in the game, I defeated him the first time he appeared by just zapping him a few time with the weakest attack the mage has boosted by a pretty generic staff and beat him the first time he appeared - achieving consistent victory on the max difficulty in about 15 minutes. Pretty anticlimatic for a roguelike.

This isn't a game you'll be spending hundreds and probably not even tens of hours on, but for a fun 10 or 20 hour romp it's an enjoyable experience.

I have had so much fun just choosing classes going into randomized generated worlds and seeing how far my perks and class can take me. I sometimes wish there was a survival mode just keep going to see how far you can get.

I love the simplistic feel and nostalgic feel of the gameplay and graphics.
There are unlockable classes.
Its got great replay value.
Exploring class and perks with each adventure gives you the power to challenge your self.

I don't understand how this game gets such huge amounts of praise, i feel like the game concept was good but executed in such a bad way, Going into it i already cringed at the fact that it had Anime in it (Don't hold this point against the game, this is just my personal preference) After making my hero I played the game and was killed off instantly when trying to visit a home, you only get very small time windows to visit shops, save or raid a dungeon, which is a bit challenging and kills off my need for exploration and monster fighting, speaking of monster fighting lets talk about how lack-luster it is, you'll come across almost no enemies in the beginning but once you reach a further area you get overwhelmed and killed instantly, healing items can almost never save you and shops sell very little healing items at a time, and seeing as you have too get in and get out as fast as possible when it comes to the shops, it's extremely hard to stay alive. there was almost no story in the mode i chose, other than the fact that we're running from darkness to get to a demon to defeat him, The game mostly never explains most things, like identifying items. i find this game really hard to wrap my head around the full concept of the game, thank god i didn't pay for this and got it as a gift.

I bought this because it was labeled as an RPG. I realize this is a rogue like also. In my personal opinion this game feels like it fails both genres.

When playing an RPG there needs to be a sense of exploration/story. However, this game really punishes you for exploring. You will come across tons of little enemy houses with treasure in them, but most of the time it is impossible to kill the swarm of enemies inside and unlock a box before the area gets swallowed by the black edge of the screen. Furthermore, the character progression just isn't there. I get that one of the man features of rogue likes is permadeath, but the perks you can buy and upgrade a new character with don't make you feel stronger. You can unlock different classes of hero but they don't feel any different.

The controls suck for the combat style. It's both live action and turn based. You pretty much walk around the map, but when you come across enemies you must take it slow and be very deliberate about facing the right direction before initiating any action, otherwise you swing at air and waste a turn. The controls just felt very clunky and took away from the immersion. I feel like pure turn based combat would have been better.

My final verdict is 5/10. This game probably is more enjoyable as a rogue like than an RPG. Only worth purchasing when on sale for 50% off or more.

"One Way Heroics" is a great roguelike where you play as a hero who tries to stop the darkness from swallowing the world - literally. You are forced to travel to the right in your quest as the darkness destroys everything from the left. Each world you save unlocks more classes, perks and other bonuses that bring you closer to solving the mystery behind the threat that engulfs endless worlds.

The gameplay is quite well balanced, allowing for different playstyles. The variety of difficulties, campaign types and options encourage players of all skill levels to continue moving forward. While the art could use some improvement, the music is decent and the story is quite interesting and well-written.

"One Way Heroics" brings the excitement of permanent death while giving players many reasons to keep trying again. I highly recommend the game to both roguelike veterans and those new to the genre. Do consider buying the DLC - "One Way Heroic Plus", as it adds even more content, features and replay value

Getting brutally beaten to deatg while climbing some mountains is my jam! No, seriously, I'm all for permadeath but I lost many promising runs in a fashion similar to that.
Woes of stupidity aside, this game is great, and much more deep than the interface and graphics might suggest. The mechanics take a bit to get right and it's harsh to new players, but it's a far cry from the most complex of roguelikes. And, once you have the basics down, you have a hight chance of beating the Big Bad with something like the Swordmaster. Personally, I still can't get a hang on the more fragile classes, and just cheese it with a shield-wielding Hero.
Anyways. If you are a fan of roguelikes, unorthodox design choices, deep, lighthearted but at times sad plots, and, of course, the buffload of content RPGs usually come with, then One Way Heroics is for you. Don't let the art style make you think otherwise ;)

This game is simply amazing.

You start by choosing a class and up to 5 perks, but you will have to unlock most of these first.
It's fun trying different combinations and seeing how they play out.

The map is determined by the seed you choose, you can pick a random one, enter one yourself or choose one of a few daily dimensions that are altered in a special way.
The game is rogue-like and turn-based, dying means perma-death.
During your run you will explore the map, find loot, kill monsters and other enemies, level up, talk to several NPCs who offer various services, recruit NPCs to help you fight and finish your main quest (which is usually killing a boss).

Every turn the darkness behind you consumes a little bit more of the map, so you have to keep progressing forward and think carefully about if you'll have enough time to explore a dungeon or visit a town. Normally this isn't really a problem, you can easily outrun the slowly-progressing darkness.
In case of emergency you can use your Awakening ability up to 5 times, which stops the time for 3 turns so you can get yourself out of trouble.

Usually whenever you die, it is because you weren't careful, you will learn from most deaths.
Most of the time there are ways to save yourself, but you just didn't try or think of everything or were too cocky, though of course there are also times when the game really seems to hate you.

There are multiple endings depending on how you beat the game and which NPC you have with you.
Moreover when you beat the game you can store some items in your vault, which you can choose to use at the beginning of each run.

Lastly, it's a single-player game, but while playing the game online it will show you details about other players who are in the same dimension and occasionally you will meet ghosts of other fallen players who will drop one of their items and give you experience.
Furthermore after clearing a dimension it will show you the characters of everyone who completed it as well.

For the price, especially when it's on sale, it's a steal.
I definitely also recommend buying OWH+ if you already enjoyed the base game, it adds a lot of new content.

Looks pretty simple, but that's just on the surface.
Don't let the permadeath hold you back. Unlike other games, this is just a drawback, but not a hassle that makes you want to stop playing for weeks untill you calm down. It makes me think of Hotline Miami, where death just pushes you further.
Another plus is that you can store powerful items when you finish playing, so you can have them from the start on new games (although I wouldn't recommend that, since it somehow ruins the experience).
Add an aleatory map generation system, an animal-lover guild, bandits, and the overkill of the left side of the screen (for real).

Cheapest game deserving a 9/10 I've ever played.

Seriously though, this is a cute little time-killer sidescrolling roguelite with a mechanic that forces you to move forward or be swallowed by the encroaching darkness coming from the left side of the screen. Simple mechanic, but effective (should I risk racing for that chest I just spotted near the left or move on?) Very lighthearded, doesn't take itself seriously at all. Pretty satisfying, with solid turn-based grid gameplay and plenty of fun classes and skills to unlock.

- Choose OP Hero class.
- Tries the "Inhumane Odyssey" difficulty without using the Dimensional Vault.
- Got lucky and got one of the rarest items on the begining.
- Sacrifaced my pride and armor for the protection of :zenura:.
- Got more combat effectiveness while fully naked, then wearing full plate holy armor and sword.
- Ran over one thousand kilometers without taking a breat to pee, batch or sleep. All while fully naked.
- Visited countless ruins, snow lands, corrupt lands full of spooky scary skeletons, fortresses, dungeons deserts, coasts full of huge-♥♥♥ piranhas, mountains, longest caves in history. All while fully naked.
- Beated up mini boss, using another brainwashed mini-boss.
- Got ambused by "innocent" fluffy animals and couldn't defend myself or people from Greenheart would have my booty...
- Got NPC guard to kill them while I took their valueable loot.
- Died from suprise booty-grab from the ghost...
- Got SSS rank on everything but had to start over...

Just got this game from the anime sale for less than a dollar. Was just looking for cheap games on the sale and I saw this and it had a great price and good reviews so I decided to give it a try. I would say it is an extremely fun game for those who just want to have a quick and fun game to play for a while. I finished the game probably within 2 hoursish but there is a lot of classes I still have to try out. 10/10 would recommend

A unique Japanese roguelike that plays like classic Mystery Dungeon mixed with the oft-touted auto scroll mechanic that makes players think even more on their feet as they battle monsters (and hunger). This is probably one of the only roguelike games with a progression system that fits perfectly with the game as a whole, with many runs only lasting about an hour, and the most you can get are unlockables to change your starting character or to save equipment. Whatever writing is there is usually light-hearted and sometimes witty, even in such a depressing world where everyone behind you DIES. I also love the world generation system where you can replay the same seed over and over again and almost play it like a normal RPG.

The Plus version is pretty much necessary to fully enjoy this game, but I think the low price and hours of fun you'll get is worth it. I'm not even done with it myself!
