Assetto Corsa v1.7 and RED PACK available!

The new build of Assetto Corsa offers a sensible amount of updates and new features asked by the simracing community, with the aim to offer a plenty of new options and keep the good path of improvements seen until today from the very first release.

One of the most wanted updates, included in the build 1.7, is the introduction of jump starts, that allows the drivers to perform a false start resulting in diverse selectable penalties.

Tyre model improvements and v10
The new build also introduces improvements of the current v7 tyre model, with tyre temperatures being more sensitive to initial tyre pressures, improvements in the realigning force and more. Furthermore, as an additional proof of KUNOS commitment to realistic physics, we introduce the new tyre model v10 for some of the new RedPack cars. The new tyre model follows the handling philosophy of KUNOS and offers a very similar driving feel, but at the same time is a complete rewrite that permits us to validate much better our results with real life data, hence the jump from v7 to v10. All Assetto Corsa cars will be eventually updated to the new tyre model, in the following months.

Introducing brake temperatures for some of the RedPack cars.
Assetto Corsa now simulates brake temperatures. Following our tradition of step by step evolution, some cars from the RedPack have now brake temperature. In the following months, we will add more features like air ducts and pads and all Assetto Corsa cars will be updated with brake temperatures and their effects.

Power Unit.
MGU-K, MGU-H, ICE with variable Turbo, Batteries charging and energy deployment
Another KUNOS tradition is to update the physics engine with new features, every time we have a new car with very specific characteristics. RedPack includes the Ferrari F138 and SF15-T. The F138 features a typical KERS system that can be simulated very well by our existing hybrid simulation, as seen in the LaFerrari and McLaren P1. Nevertheless the F138 required a maximum energy deployment per lap feature, as well as a bypass button. Both features are now simulated in Assetto Corsa and this permitted also an update of the McLaren P1 that now includes a push to pass button.
On the other hand the SF15-T has the new power unit with a very complex ERS system. The system includes an MGU-K with specific charge and deploy energy values, various profiles of energy deployment, different levels of energy charging, active rear braking pressure, MGU-H for energy harvesting from the Turbo that can be directed to the batteries or to the MGU-K, and different ICE engine braking levels. It has been a very intense period of research and implementation but everything has been coded and simulated in Assetto Corsa and it is available through keys and driving buttons for all Assetto Corsa users to configure!

Physics features commands are now configurable on keyboard and controllers.
Relevant features like Traction Control, ABS, Turbo, MGU-K, MGU-H, Engine brake etc, can be configured on the gaming device, and on the keyboard.

AI improvements, multiplayer improvements
The update includes new artificial intelligence algorithms, improving overtaking manoeuvres; also, now AI drivers are much more variable in performance during a single lap and during a session.
New experimental multiplayer code (selectable from server manager) that greatly reduces bandwidth usage and improves quality. Fixed setups can now be saved and loaded.

More improvements in various other aspects of Assetto Corsa as for example, pitstop time requirements improvements and others, are described in the changelog.

Assetto Corsa REDPACK

KUNOS Simulazioni and 505 Games are proud to present the "RED PACK", the DLC package for ASSETTO CORSA that includes seven legendary Italian sports cars and Austria’s RedBull Ring circuit.
Since the birth of modern motorsports, Red has historically been the colour of choice for Italian Manufacturers & competitive teams. In keeping with that theme, the RED PACK includes some of the most wanted cars from the most iconic italian Factories, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati!

Ferrari SF-15T
Ferrari F138
Ferrari 488 GT3
Maserati 250F 6C
Maserati 250F T2 12C
Maserati GranTurismo MC GT4
Lamborghini Aventador SuperVeloce

Spielberg REDBULL Ring Circuit

The Ferrari SF15-T is the first Ferrari GP car to debut for ASSETTO CORSA, it is the second car made by Ferrari since the reintroduction of turbo engines in 2014. The red single seater has been reproduced in cooperation with Ferrari.
The Ferrari F138 (originally known as the Ferrari F2013, and sometimes referred to by its project number, the Ferrari 664) is a Formula One racing car designed and built by Scuderia Ferrari for use in the 2013 Formula One season. It was driven by two-times World Champion Fernando Alonso and his team-mate Felipe Massa. The chassis was named F138 to represent the year that it would be raced in, 2013, and to mark the final season that Formula One would use V8 engines.
The Maserati 250F took part of Formula One racing between January 1954 and November 1960, when rules allowed 2.5 liter unsupercharged or 750 cc supercharged engines.
Maserati went with the former, chosing a straight six aspirated engine configuration; in 1956 it mounted a V12 engine.
With a quite roomy cockpit, Maserati 250F featured a 4 gears transmission (plus reverse) and Continental fashion pedals arrangement: clutch, throttle and brake in this order.
The Ferrari 488 GT3 is the the racing version of the latest 488 GTB, presented at the Ferrari Finali Mondiali, as replacement for the 458 Italia. This car features large side intakes to provide a better air flow to its twin-turbocharged 3.9-liter V8.
With increased power, lower weight, improved aerodynamics and innovative technologies the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce is the most pure incarnation of a Lamborghini to date: unmistakable Lamborghini super sports car DNA, dynamic superiority and exceptional driving precision.
A focus on weight reduction while incorporating innovative technologies has resulted in the most sports-oriented, fastest and most emotional series production Lamborghini ever. The weight has been further reduced by 50 kg through enhanced lightweight engineering including significant use of carbon fiber. The naturally aspirated V12 engine's power is increased to 750 hp. This results in a power-to-weight-ratio of 2,03 kg/hp. The Superveloce accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and powers on to reach a top speed of more than 350 km/h.
After the experience with Trofeo Series, Maserati is ready to push the GranTurismo MCs into a new challenge: the international GT4 series.
The modifications needed for GT4 homologation mainly concern the engine and aerodynamics. The car's overall technical make-up will be unchanged: the 4700cc engine, electro-actuated transmission with paddle-shift commands and a kerb weight of 1410 kg will stay. The fitting of an air scoop will reduce the car's power output to 430 bhp from its current 488 bhp while a newly-designed rear spoiler and modified diffuser will bring the car's performance into line with that of the other GT4 cars.
The RedBull Ring has been reproduced for Assetto Corsa to the highest level of detail through the use of laserscan technology.

The Circuit of RedBull Ring
Due to its complexity, it took nine months of work to reproduce the Circuit of Catalunya. Laser Scanning Technology allowed the team to recreate the most faithful version of the Spanish track available in any racing game to date.
For the first time ever in a PC racing simulation, the Circuit of Spielberg has been digitally recreated using Laser Scanning Technology. The resulting accuracy combined with the advanced physics model of Assetto Corsa offers an unprecedented driving experience blurring even more the difference between virtual racing and reality.

Playing this with an Oculus Rift DK2 and a Thrustmaster TX wheel.

This is a really thoughtful, polished, restrained car sim. No, there aren't a ton of tracks. But the ones I've tried so far are fantastic. There aren't a billion cars, but every one I've tried feels exactly right, looks great, and they're extremely diverse. You can drive Niki Lauda's Ferrari 312T around the Nurburgring. And it'll feel like it.

They're still making major improvements, too. Like, brand new race AI? Brand new tire model? Sure! Makes an excellent tarmac companion to Dirt Rally. Much, much, much more enjoyable and of consistently high quality than Project CARS.

AC有着RAC里面最为丰富的Mod (不是的话请指出) ,如果把所有中高品质mod下载全,真的可以占满整块硬盘;对于场地赛粉丝,Mod中BTCC, WTCC, DTM, WEC的LMP1组别的高质量Mod完全可以开心玩耍;早在JDM车包发售之前就有各种民间JDM漂移包,虽然质量参差不齐但聊胜于无;
赛道mod有各种民间制作的风光图,当然也补全了几乎所有著名赛道,我现在放在游戏目录里的赛道Mod有勒芒、拉古娜、蒙扎、Paul Richard、Topgear赛道和亚斯码头;
最近又有人弄出了夜晚渲染mod,从此勒芒24小时全真模拟不是梦! 12/10

From the outset I would just like to say I do own Project Cars and have at the time of writing 630+ hours but only 16 hours of Assetto Corsa (Just bought it).
People say that AC's more accurate physics simulation over pCars features and looks makes it the better purchase but I beleive that some compromise between AC and pCars would make for a more rounded and enjoyable simulation-b

IMO the physics of Assetto Corsa tend to lean quite heavily on understeer (much like Grand Turismo) and pCars on oversteer. It feels as though every car wants to understeer... but the result of this is that Assetto Corsa rewards you more for precise and smooth driving whereas pCars you can generally chuck the car around and achieve ridiculous lap-times.

In terms of braking I managed to get the settings at a somewhat decent level but the fact that you cannot adjust brake pressure (or disk size) is quite debilitating. The braking quite often feels... mushy-mushy-mushy-FULL LOCK and so you are severly punished for not using ABS (which at factory level is simulated quite well). pCars on the other hand better handles progressive braking however it's too rare that you lock your wheels (which is unrealistic). Assetto Corsa though does a better job at simulating the impact of flat-spotting your tires.

The default setup on AC seems to be heavily biased towards the front brakes and so you will almost always lock the fronts rather than the rears. But I immediately noticed in AC I felt way more comfortable trail-braking than in pCars.

In pCars I felt I had a better idea of what needed to be changed in the setup in order to drive faster or smoother whereas with AC you can't really see or feel the difference in two setups you can only judge them by laptimes. AC doesn't quite have the level of detail when it comes to tuning your cars and the impact seems less emphasised.

This has been constantly praised as far better than pCars but it is hard to describe why because it is based on feeling.
As with pCars the default FFB isn't great and so it will take a short while to get it to feel how you want but AC has a great custom app that will adjust the FFB strength on a per car basis on the fly. AC also has the advantage that you can creat a .lut curve to adjust the linearity of your wheels motor. pCars however has a greater range of options for FFB which can be a blessing and a curse.

When I first started playing AC I couldn't shake the idea that something was missing in the feel through FFB and it took me a while but I realised it was the body of the car. pCars feels as though you have the road-->tires-->springs/suspension-->steering wheel whereas AC seems to skip the springs part. The result is you feel a disconnect between you and the car and the game ends up feeling clinical. You also don't visually see any roll in the body of the car (more later).

In terms of understeer you can add the enhanced understeer option which is a great indicator through the FFB but I feel that it hampers your ability to try and correct and at times the understeer feels like your set in it. You can turn that feature off though and understeer is pretty much the same as pCars.

Oversteer on the other hand is completely different. with pCars you can sometimes feel locked into a spin and correcting it is almost impossible whereas AC the oversteer is more progressive and you can feel the different stages of slip and you can correct it far easier and it feels more intuitive getting the car back straightened out.

AC does a better job of brake rumble and you can feel more accurately when the wheels are locking up and so you can adjust your braking. In comparison pCars you only know when you've locked up your wheels when you try to steer and nothing happens (except in an open-wheeler where you can tell by looking .)

This might come up again later but I feel as though pCars gives you a better sense through FFB of acceleration effects so even if you weren't looking you could better tell whether you are going quickly or slowly.

Track Surface
IMO the differences aren't that significant but I do feel that pCars has overdone the bumps a little whereas AC is a little more subtle and realistic but then again pCars the feel of the bumps differs based on springs and dampers whereas I haven't yet detected that in AC.

This one should be quite quick, it is more of a subjective category but I do feel pCars looks so much better and specifically more involving.

In terms of the track pCars has AC licked it feels better seeing the trees and waving flags but a pretty track does not a good sim make.

The cars in AC from the inside feel fake and a bit two dimensional, they have nothing on pCars and look only slightly better than something Codemasters would do which is a little disappointing because they have Ferrari and Lamborghini. The result of this is you start to feel detached (a word that keeps coming) from the game and more like a casual observer rather than feeling as though you are in the car. [I will say that I do not have VR and that is probably going to render the previous sentence moot]

The outside of the car is really no better, they look arcade-y and again it's not such a big deal but with cool brands in the game it is a little bit of a let down.

One thing I find quite important is the camera shake and movement (especially look to apex) I think this is something AC definitely needs to work on as pCars gets it right and AC is too sterile resulting in you not feeling the speed of the car you are driving. In pCars you get a sense of rush and anticipation when trying to spot the braking zone because everything is speeding past you so quickly. In AC you can only really get an idea of your speed by looking at the speedometer.

This one is a little more tough. pCars has many more tracks and Cars by default and so the range is a little more extensive and I imagine when pCars2 comes out this divide will only grow larger. However, AC has those exclusive cars like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Fiat and Alfa Romeo (which Jeremy Clarkson says is the ultimate Petrol head's car maker.) and most importantly I think Lotus road cars.

AC tends to lean more on road cars (like Grand Turismo) but I think pCars has a better more vast selection of Race Class Vehicles.

pCars has more tracks for sure and has more of the race tracks we all know quite well but I don't think it has more or less variety than AC in terms of the type of tracks. AC does however have a nice drift playground.

The most important thing in terms of content though is that AC is far easier to mod and so there is a literal boatload of Cars and Tracks you can download. Again this needs to be taken with a pinch of salt as the quality of the mods are not all that great where as if you get MDMT's modded vehicles for PCars; the quality is absolutely mind-blowing for a mod (but they take a while to make).

Both have career modes done differently - AC is more like Grand Turismo the careers are a mix of challenges and races whereas pCars simulates a drivers journey through the ranks with race contracts offered based on performance in your class.

I much prefer practice (QRW) on pCars as you can drive a setup and pop into the pits with your tires still warm and grab a bit more fuel and that creates more motivation for longevity during practice mode. AC has a quite disappointing pit system.

I recommend both this and pCars the choice is up to you, do you need to own both? No. Should you buy both? I say yes.
Overall my impression is that AC is more accurate but far less involving and exciting. AC can feel a bit bland in regards to content and overall feel. Buy AC to hone your racing skills but buy pCars to have fun.

Just played around for a few minutes now and the first impressions are very nice. Car handling feels good with Xbox 360 controller. Assetto Corsa is not a racing arcade, it wants to be a simulation. To adress this, the game is highly customizable. Still, it is fun to play just a single race on standard settings.
Edit: Assetto Corsa is a lot of fun. The Nordschleife, which comes as DLC, is a blast. I can only recommend it!
