140 is a minimalist style platformer where the music is the key to completing levels. In the platforming you have to go from point A to point B to dodging and using objects in the map. The game has in total 3 levels with each of them having 1 endboss. The endbosses are pretty challenging and really let you know you have to focus on what is happening on screen but also to the music that you hear. What I like about the game is that it explains itself with no text, using only music and the world itself. This really helps the minimalist style. As you progress through the game, you can really hear and see that the levels are getting harder and have to think about what you are doing. The game is well designed, so when you die you know it is your fault. The music is also fun to listen to. I first played the game on okay-speakers and later on a good-headset. The difference in enjoyment was huge. So I would recommend good audio equipment while you play the game. Steam says the game took me in total 104 minutes.( I have to say that I left level 2 partway through once, so I had to start from the beginning of level 2. So the games doesn't save your checkpoints in a level. ) After you complete the main game you also unlock all the levels in mirror mode where you don't have any checkpoints. This can be fun for people who are searching for a challenge but I am not interested in playing it. All in all, the game was fun but felt too short for me. I had hoped the game had more harder levels.

In short: A nice, but short, minimalist style platformer where music is the key.

- Mirror levels can give you hell if you suck.

Final Remarks:
Don't let the extremely simplistically minimalistic visuals deceive you.
140 isn't just yet another indie game; it's pure art.
No need for more explanation; play it.
You are welcome.

Good game. Got it for cents, worth it. Play it to focus your mind on one simple task. Relaxing.

Trial and error will take you a long way on 140, but not all the way since you will need also timing and patience to advance in this simple yet well-crafted game. Jump all over the place, planning beforehand your movements to avoid falls that'll force you to start over. Get your prize, deliver it, and move on to the next challenge.

All aspects of the game are good enough given the premise: controls respond, graphics are basic (but that's the idea on a minimalist game) and the music generates an ambient that allows to concentrate on the task at hand. All that being said, the game's backgrounds tend to be a little off-putting, and the dynamic becomes repetitive; but if you purchased this game you're looking for that anyway.

This is a challenging platformer with some of the best music I've heard in a game since things like 'Sword and Sworcery EP' and 'Fez'. The music itself as well as some of the visuals are quite reminiscent of 'Fez' although they are very different games.

When you first open the game, you are treated to the music straight away. There is no menu or text, other than the large '140' in the middle of the screen. Upon pressing any button you are thrust into the game itself, still with no instructions. This isn't a game for those new to the platforming genre, but those who have played the simplest flash game will easily be able to understand what to do.

Each level of the game has it's own music to match the obstacles present there. You will need the music on, as all the obstacles are synced up to the beat and mastering the rhythms can mean the difference between life and death. At the end of each level there is a boss, it will challenge the skills you have learnt through the level leading up to it. These bosses aren't the typical 'fights' you may be used to from other games, but I find them to be fairer and more challenging than most.

I absolutely adore the visual style of the game and the way it matches the music so well. The simplest touches can effect the game massively and when you first play it can be overwhelming, especially when you die. The patterns in the background that seemingly dance to the music fit the rest of the levels perfectly and aren't distracting or annoying, even when you are stuck on a particularly difficult section.

Overall this is one of the best platformers I have ever played, the controls are extremely responsive and I never felt like I died because it was the game's fault. For the price there is the perfect amount of content in my opinion. With just enough challenge and variety to give you a few hours of gameplay, and even more if you want all the achievements.

I would give '140' 5 stars, 10/10, 8/8 or whatever rating system you prefer, I love it. I will certainly be buying the soundtrack and I hope a sequel will be made one day. Great game!

Its a super simple idea executed with an unprecedented display of style. Worth paying full price, even if it is a bit short. The quality here is great! I'd have easily put 5 to 10 dollars in quarters into an arcade machine to play it through. In fact, I might build myself a machine just so I can put this on it and play from time to time.

140 is a cool platform puzzle game that matches colors with a musical background. It's not a pattern or dance game, it's just a straight platformer with a unique design. Relatively short and worth the money.

The main game is enjoyable but short. For me, the most beautifully frustratingly rewarding part was finishing the mirror modes, which requires precision and no small amount of practice. The game guides you through with the music and the movements gradually become second nature making this oddly relaxing in between the ragequits.

140 is a cataclysmically colorful platformer where you play as a black shape advancing through a set of three pulsating, undulatingly cheerful yet frustrating levels. The game requires you to jump and roll your way through a series of timing-based challenges, all of which are set to the throbbing, toe-tap-worthy beat of the game's Electronic Super Joy-esque soundtrack.

Your goal throughout each level is to collect dual-colored orbs and then return them to various checkpoints. Each returned orb causes the level to fluctuate, activating moving panels and changing the game's color scheme. To collect each orb, you'll be faced with moving blocks, grey-matter platforms that kill you on contact, and tricky tests of your ability to time impressively challenging jumps. However, the levels provide plenty of checkpoints, saving your progress before each threat you face.

The end of each level features, like most games, a boss. The boss levels of 140 are the only times when your otherwise peaceful shape is armed with a weapon: a beam that shoots out of your shape automatically in time to the music's beat. Boss levels are long, creatively designed levels that require you to avoid projectiles while also correctly timing your attacks, making them often frustrating (but, in the end, rewarding) moments of the game.

The only noticeable downside to 140 is its astonishing lack of true save points. While there are several checkpoints within each level that you can return to when you die, exiting out of the game entirely will cause your progress in each level to be lost. Therefore, each level must be beat in one sitting, otherwise you'll simply have to start completely over next time you come back to the game.

Despite this, the game is both fun and challenging and, if you manage to make it through all three levels, the end will unlock three extra bonus levels that allow you to play the first three levels backwards without checkpoints. This added challenge adds a few extra hours of gameplay—I have to assume, since I've never been skilled enough to play the bonus levels!

Don't let the simple colors and animations of 140 fool you, it has tight controls, great music, and excellent pacing that makes for a great platformer. Provided you have a controller and headphones, 140 progresses from silence to a beautiful electronic sound-stage that is essential to making progress. I beat the base game on a flight in about an hour, but the inverted levels kept me coming back for more. The art and sound design in 140 are genuinely great, but I think the gameplay could have gone a few more interesting places. 8 / 10 for a very solid short indie title.

Simple, but is that really a bad thing?

There's a focus on rhythm/timing and reaction speed.

Near the end the game ramps up difficulty, but it never ends up being too much. 140 is the most difficult at the very end, and that's a bonus for me. Too many games fizzle out with an easy end/boss.

However the game really shines after you beat it. Finishing the game unlocks the same 3 levels mirrored and in hardcore. That means to truly finish the game, you must learn the levels without dying. Had a lot of fun.

Can't say this is for everyone, but I'm glad I purchased this. I loved the challenge.

Oh and the music was dope.

What a f*ing cool game! Go try it out! Go! Now!

Nice unusual platformer with a cool minimalistic vibe. The soundtrack is an integral part of the game and helps you timing the jumps. At times it may be a bit too easy, but that makes for an extremely relaxed gameplay.

I really like the attention to detail, like the almost unnoticeable sound when you stop moving.

Congrats to the developers, beautifully executed game!

140 is a real gem.
Like this one: http://www.knightsofpain.de/files/gem.png
This is actually a steam emoticon from the game Monaco, which is great but this is about 140.
So in 140 there is just straight horizonal and vertical geometry (except some spheres and triangles, but they are kind of evil) so it's more like this (I just rotated the gem by 45°): http://www.knightsofpain.de/files/gem45degrees.png
And the color is also plain (except the baddies they have a snowy noise on them, yuk) so 140 is actually this kind of gem:
Now you see the problem, probably you cannot see the white square because your browsers background is white, for easier visibility I inverted the picture: http://www.knightsofpain.de/files/gem45degreeswhiteinverted.png
This also what your character looks like (he/she/it may be black or white).
I come to the conclusion that 140 is great, because it has nice clean geometry for the good parts, it's gender free and you can be black or white.
And it's a great game!
Edit: Just as a sidenote: Soundtrack is awesome and the mirror levels are very hard to beat :-)
