“Customizable mods are a big part of Audiosurf 2. I've finished a few already, but now I want to open it up to the community. There are lots of ways to play with Audiosurf's visual anticipation technology and I'm excited to see what the community comes up with. But more than that, I need you to tell me what to focus on next! Like the first Audiosurf, community feedback will shape it into the best game it can be. If you're interested in creating and sharing mods (scripting required) or skins (can be done with image, sound, and 3d model changes - and optionally with scripting), even better!

Wakeboard mode is my favorite way to ride (so far) because it uses the song's overall shape as a central part of the gameplay. You anticipate upcoming changes in the music visually and try to build up a big trick multiplier (full puzzle grid) just before jumping from a wavetop. The classic modes are still great and will evolve and twist in different directions. Audiosprint, the local-multiplayer party mode is simple (2 buttons) and a blast with friends.

Warning - there will be bugs! Please use the forum to report problems, request additions, or just discuss what's working well and what isn't. See you there.

Major Features not yet finished:
-- Scoreboard for every song, for every mod (scoreboards are currently sparse and unreliable)
-- Graphical music collection browser
-- Gamepad support in menus
-- Mac, Linux, SteamOS support
-- Translations from English
-- VR (Oculus Rift)
-- Even more official modes
-- Even more official skins
-- Important things I didn't think of yet!”

Auto-tricking wakeboard mode, vegas, dx11, lastfm

Thanks to Valve, the latest steam update brought support for using the overlay when Audiosurf 2 is in DX11 mode! So running in DX11 mode is the default again now. This way it has better performance and alt-tabs faster. Please post if you find any workshop skins with shaders that look wrong in DX11 (if there are any more).

Buffed the Vegas mode to be able to shuffle the puzzle grid twice as often. The previous Vegas mode will still show up on the puzzle league scoreboards in addition to the new Vegas mode.

Updated Wakeboard mode to include no grey blocks and a feature that auto-starts the ideal trick for you after you jump from a wake. After that first trick, you can do more if there's still air time. Like Wakeboard Grid, this mode is about trying to keep a mostly full puzzle grid (full grid = big trick multiplier) before jumping at big moments in the music. This one is easier to learn, but still has a high skill ceiling.

Fixed a couple issues with Soundcloud browsing which should make it now load your Soundcloud feed faster.

Added support for an "extras.xml" file which can be added into the game's folder alongside the "Audiosurf2.exe" file. It currently can be used for scrobbling to Last.fm and for changing the game to not auto-center the vehicle when playing with a gamepad or keyboard. You can get the file here if you'd like either of those features:
http://audiosurf2.com/gamefiles/extras.xml
Download it, put it next to Audiosurf2.exe, then open it in a text editor (like Notepad) to change the settings.

Small changes to the Stadium skin that make air particles a little bigger and add shader support for OpenGL (for currently in-progress ports).

Edit (11.16.2014): Just uploaded a small change that runs in exclusive mode fullscreen under DX9. If you need exclusive mode for something like nvidia 3D vision or AMD crossfire, run the game with the launch option "-force-d3d9" (without the quotes).

back to dx9, temporarily

Small update today that returns Audiosurf 2 to DX9 mode by default. This brings back the Steam overlay. If you'd rather have the extra performance than the overlay, you can add the launch option "-force-d3d11" (without the quotes).

  • defaults to DX9 mode
  • detects when launched fullscreen in a non-supported aspect ratio and corrects
  • added cubemap support to skins

example cubemap loading code for use in skins:
shader="Reflective/Bumped Specular",
textures={_MainTex="maintex3.png", _BumpMap="normal3.png", _Glow="glowBW3_2.png", _Cube={_FrontTex = "Front.png", _BackTex = "Back.png", _LeftTex = "Left.png", _RightTex = "Right.png", _UpTex = "Top.png", _DownTex = "Bottom.png"}}

關於此遊戲

Audiosurf 2 is not yet finished, but if you get it during Early Access you can play right away, you’ll get every update, and you’ll get the finished game. Watch here to see what’s new with each update, and watch Steam Workshop to see what new gameplay (mods) and graphic styles (skins) others in the community are inventing.

You’ll also get to help shape the future of Audiosurf, and you’ll get to try out all the experimental new modes before anybody else does. Which ones are too wacky to go into the final product? Which are jaw-droppingly amazing? Which have potential but need more work before they’re released? You get to help decide.

By blending gameplay with music visualization, Audiosurf puts you inside your music in a way nothing else can.

Audiosurf 2’s music analysis engine knows when the best moments of a song are coming, and it allows you to experience these moments on a roller-coaster-like track as beat-matched blocks, corkscrews, loops, deafening applause, shimmering colors, and accelerating drops. Head out to Workshop to see the latest experimental modes and things get wild--the track can become water where a wakeboarder catches huge air at a song’s biggest moments; a dirt track where runners jump over musically-timed hurdles; or anything else anybody who wants to use the game’s built-in modding tools can dream up. The possibilities for experiencing your music in Audiosurf 2 are endless.

Audiosurf has been called a near-religious music experience and it's like nothing else in the world of music games. Ride your music.

I've changed my update from bad to good.

I can finally say Audiosurf 2 is a worthy successor to the first entry. SoundCloud streaming is fixed, custom game modes are simple to install, and the gameplay is incredibly fun. I like to play on the classic skin so it feels similar to the first game.

The only issue I would bring up is the lack of game updates. Updates come along every so often with a lot of content but they do not come as timely as one would think. Do not let that stop you from enjoying the game.

Makes listening to music less of a passive experience and that's good enough for me.

Some of the modes/skins available in-game and in the workshop are a lot of fun too.

I'd say this is a pretty good upgrade from the first Audiosurf. Better graphics, more gameplay modes, mod support, etc.
The menus, though, are absolutely horrendous, which I find a massive turn-off. Hopefully they will be fixed in the future.
I wouldn't say that this is a "must-have" game at the moment -- but if you've got 15 bucks, this is something to consider.

Hang on to your britches, this is a long review. Detailed too. Seriously.

Okay. So I first visited this game in June, gave it a scathing review, and then left. I decided, as it has been a few months to come back and see if anything significant had changed.

It hasn't.

So let's start from the top, with the interface. Even for a pre-build interface, this is pretty shoddy. The whole thing feels like it has been built by an amateur web designer (even with gigantically oversized web widgets stuffed in). The font is inconsistent and ugly, and the entire mode, skin, and song selection processes feel clunky.

The simple, clearly bordered buttons of the first game have been replaced, for the most part, by blocks of text. The amazingly useful hints featured in the first game have been replaced by aforementioned nasty widgets, and badly embedded youtube videos. To add insult to injury, these are displayed during loading screens, but involve scrolling down, which is something that the game will not let you do whilst you are loading a level.

Now for the modes- I'll step right out and say: Puzzle modes? Pretty much ripped out of the first games. Changes are minimal, and non-impactive. They could be better, but they're not inherently bad - but this isn't praise on the part of Audiosurf 2. They're not bad because Audiosurf, the original, was not bad. The downside of course is now you have to deal with this clunky, heavy interface in order to get there.

So let's talk mono. Mono was one of the favourite methods of play for players of the original game. Has it survived here? No. No it has not. The pace of mono has been entirely changed, slowed down it feels like. The layout of levels no longer seems to correspond to the music you are listening to: Sure, the bounces and twists in the road do, but the pickups do not - in fact, they feel as if they've been placed entirely at random, and in massive numbers.

Even worse, greys can block your entire path depending on the song, making a stealth finish impossible: BUT HAVE NO FEAR: Greys are so little an annoyance to you in this game that you can literally speed through rows of them, and not have to worry about even one sticking around to hinder you. They may as well not be there at all.

Wakeboarding. Wakeboarding wakeboarding. Wakeboard mode, for those who haven't seen it, is pretty much the original mono, but with some kind of surfing trick system built in. Sounds fun right? Alas, no. The poorly written instructions and controls for the trick system make tricks feel both impractical, and clunky. Your "surfer" flips around like a fish, with very little input from you. With only four tricks to choose from, jumping can get boring very, very quickly.

Do mods make this better? For the most part no. Almost all mods are simply aesthetic upgrades. These are very fun (REZ? Sonic? Name your craze, and someone has probably made a skin of it), but the novelty wears off very quickly when you get back to the poor game.

And as for the mods that aren't aesthetic upgrades? Yes, some of these are fun... But for the most part they're let down by (I can only assume) the modding tools, and the general limitations of the game.

If I'm brutally honest (and I am), it feels as though a group of pre-graduate games designers found the source code for Audiosurf, and tried to recreate it. It's as if they were playing around, hoping to get good results...And when things didn't go their way, they simply released it to the modding community, said "They'll fix it!" and went on with their lives.

Will this be fixed in the future? I sure hope so. With some serious polishing and revisions, this could be a brilliant game...but having seen no significant change between when I last played it and now, I feel as if this game is stagnating, and the developers just don't know what to do about it.

I highly recommend that you don't waste your money on this game. Buy the original Audiosurf, the gift that keeps on giving...for a fraction of the cost of Audiosurf 2, you'll get all you need.

At first, I felt like Adiosurf 2 was a disapointment compared to the first one. I felt like the visual improvements weren't enough to give this sequel my money. But I did. I liked the first one enough that I wanted to support the developer(s?) a little more. And at first I didn't like it. I prefered the art style and simplicity of the first game. However, after a couple updates my doubts quickly left. And the biggest reason that I would recommend this to owners of the first game is the workshop support. In addition to what feels like an upgrade to music adaptation of stages, I can go from playing as Sanic in Greenhill Zone to a Bionicle riding through lava. I can play the classic mode, a clone of bit trip runner, a SHMUP, or just use it as an amazing visualizer. It's one of the most purely fun rythm games I've played in a while. There are still a few features missing that I'd like to see added the the game such as audio level sliders, better UI, or graphics options. However, even if the game didn't recieve any future updates, the stuff flowing out of the workshop is deffinitely worth the purchase.
Sorry if this is a little incoherent. Long day of work, came home to play audiosurf, and I decided to do my first review of a steam game. Now bedtime.... Or pants time. I don't remember which comes first.

I love Audiosurf 1 and Audiosurf 2 keeps getting better and better. I'm a dedicated mono-mode veteran and AS2 has made the right changes to it. Additionally you can absolutely feel the passion of the developer behind this project.

Simple fun.

The general interface ( menus, options ) is pretty bad and just really bland though. Should've just kept it like the first game.

When you get on to the actual song chosen though, it's all good. Oh , you can also use Soundcloud if you don't want to use music from your HDD.

Nice game, love the graphics. I definitely had a lot of fun with it. My favourite settings are mono with stadium,
It has a lot of replay value since basically you can keep playing until you run out of songs to play, which isn't very likely.

Things to improve on:
Every time you finish a song and want to choose another, it does not keep track of your most frequent directories, that means I have to go through my folders ever single time. Having your most recent songs listed out is nice, but a bit messy, maybe grouping them would make it a bit more useful?

A minor con is that even though the corkscrew loops are absolutely awesome, someties it feels like the gameplay isn't really intergrated with the music (mostly the bubble placement), as if the game and the music are on seperate programs.

Oh, and also please make the menus nicer to look at, they are a bit crude at the moment.

--November 25, 2014 Early Access Review--

Note: I originally did a review for this game on June 14, 2014 and continuously updated it, but I decided to re-do my review now that I recommend it.

Video preview of Audiosurf 2:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=300164118

Alright, so it's been quite a while since I've bought this game and I have played it a lot now. I've gotten quite used to the way this game works, compared to the original Audiosurf, and I think I can finally recommend it to the general public. There's still some cons to go along with the pros, but it's a pretty good game still.

The Pros:
+ You can get A LOT more points on songs compared to the original Audiosurf, even on songs that had mainly blue traffic in Audiosurf.
+ Really fun if you can deal with the fast pace and gray blocks everywhere.
+ Absolutely stunning graphics, even on low setting. Huge improvement compared to the original.
+ The camera angle has been fixed and it is a lot better.
+ There is Steam Workshop compatibility, which is a great for people who want to try different things.
+ If you actually like the more faster pace compared to the original Audiosurf, then you'll like this a bit more.
+ The song selection interface has improved, now previewing the artist, song name, album, and cover art for the album/single.

The Cons:
- The difficulty is very hard now, even for normal mono, regardless of choice.
- It's very fast paced, compared to Audiosurf's mono.
- The whole track is a lot faster than the original mono, which again, makes the difficulty insanely harder.
- There are tons more gray "blocks" than the original, making it almost impossible to achieve stealth and attempt at every colored block.
- The gray "blocks" can sometimes be extremely close to the colored blocks, and in some cases, practically glued together with each other.
- Like it says right above this, the gray "blocks" can be extremely close to colored blocks, which can make you lose stealth in lots of cases, unless you're Harry Houdini or something.

So yeah, I suggest you get any Audiosurf (1 or 2). Be forewarned: Audiosurf 2 is a LOT faster and very difficult compared to Audiosurf (in terms of mono mode). The cons might be just my personal problems with the game, but I think you should still take those cons in consideration if you're deciding on whether to buy the game or not. Wait for the sales, my best advice. Still a good buy, however.

My opinion, I played it for a few minutes and never looked back. It's a train wreck compared to Audiosurf 1.

I don't normally give bad reviews unless I can't stand a game and this just well uh sucks. I had soo much expectation after number one, that I almost instantly brought this as soon as it came out.

However, after spending 20hours on Audiosurf 1 and only 20minutes on Audiosurf 2 before closing and going back to Audiosurf 1... I'd say you know which one is the better of the two.

So for a better game and a better price of $5 less you could get Audiosurf 1. Don't waste your money on this or you will be sadly dissapointed.

Hope that developers will make optional all new "improvements" and will add option to switch grafics and modes in Audiosurf 2 to Audiourf 1 (but with opportunity to change background).

I've played more than 370 hours in first Audiosurf and I can say if you really like the first Audiosurf there is high chance that you will not like Audiosurf 2.

You will have headache from new super graphics but at the same time colours in Audiosurf 2 are dull.
And I can't understand why they removed the blocks and replaced them with something that looks like beans (but when you have caught these beans they turn to blocks - imo it is absolutely stupid).

Hope that developers will make optional all new ''improvements'' and will add option to switch grafics and modes in Audiosurf 2 to Audiourf 1 (but with opportunity to change background).
In that case there will be more happy customers - creators of Audiosurf 2 will not loose fans of the first Audiosurf and at the same time could attract new castomers who like modern grafics and modes.

But for now don't buy it before watching gameplay videos . Save your money, time and mood.

This game is great fun and a fantastic way to enjoy music.
The new graphics greatly improve the ambience compared to its predecessor, in my opinion, though your view may be different.
Regardless, the variety of new modes can only be a good thing and with the addition of Steam Wrokshop support, new skins, gamemodes and variations on existing formats are readily available and are good fun to try out. Plus teh game is still being improved upon and new capabilities are being added, so I'd say it's well worth the purchase.

This game is excellent to be added onto the AudioSurf game. The stock music was pretty good and the fact that they had free music is just great. The steam workshop add on made this game even more better. The game looks more nice and just more beautiful. there isnt really that much new besides the modes and such. If you are deciding Audiosurf 2 or Audiosurf or both, just pick Audiosurf 2. This recieves a 8.21/10.
