Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons is a splendidly innovative, little game with pleasing aesthetics and a touching narrative that is sure to amuse nearly any gamer. This game is a quintessential example of the avant-garde in gaming. Perfectly crafted single-player co-op is now a reality as Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons will have you controlling two characters simultaneously (by using the dual joysticks of modern controllers) as you embark on a short, but heartfelt, adventure.

The game plays as an adventure-puzzler game. You will have to control both of your characters simultaneously and use their different strengths and abilities in tandem to solve the various puzzles you encounter on your adventure. It really is quite an experience and there were several times where I could actually feel my brain get crossed-up as I tried to control both characters at once. This is definitely the kind of game that exercises your brain. I would say this mechanic alone would make the game worth playing, even if the other aspects were poor. Fortunately, pretty much all the other aspects of the game are first-rate as well.

Supplementing the innovative mechanics at the core of the game are the elegant graphics, pleasing soundscape, and overall charming atmosphere. There are some really varied and well-crafted areas to traverse as you play through the story. More than just looking different, the various areas of the game feel different— and each add their own twist to the gameplay.

The game is ultimately a story-driven experience. That story is simple, but told well— evoking empathy. The levels, while gorgeous, are quite linear; and the puzzles, while innovative, are quite simple. And those factors only serve to contribute to the brevity of the game. Most people should be able to complete the game in 3 to 4 hours; it is the kind of thing that can (and probably should) be done in one immersive sitting. It is the definition of “short-and-sweet.”

Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons is one of those games I would say basically everyone will enjoy. Even if you don’t really play games that much, or are someone who only plays a specific genre very different from this, I still must implore you to play this game. It is very well-crafted, delightfully innovative, and short enough that it is worth anyone’s time to experience.

“Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons” is an indie puzzle storytelling game done right. It showed us, that how immensely powerful a video game can be, when its game-play and story complements each other so perfectly.

The world is detailed, charming and vibrant, and despite its story being only 3-4 hours long, it takes you through a multitude of environments, every chapter feels fresh, compelling and interesting, and filled with mini side-quests that reward you with achievements and extra contents.

The controls for “Brothers” is pretty unique, you simultaneously control two individual characters to solve interesting, varied puzzles in order to progress through the level, on a quest to search for the water of life to save their father. The puzzles themselves are well thought out and doesn’t outstay its welcome, and despite having strange control scheme, I can safely say it works extremely well a Controller and I personally had no problems with it whatsoever.

The story is what makes Brothers so brilliant, it immerses you into the world almost immediately, during my short but wonderful play-though I've experienced happiness, fear, wanderlust, compassion and profound sadness. I really think that no other means of media can really replicate such a mesmerising experience, it successfully told me a coherent, fulfilling and mature story without the characters saying single word, but solely relies on pure interactive game-play.

“Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons” is incredible, and a game that you don’t want to miss, I had a truly unforgettable experience and I think you will too. Don’t watch a game-play video on the internet, but experience this little gem yourself, you will not regret it.

A must buy for everyone.

Firstly, I have played through this game before on my PlayStation 3. Not only does this game run way better on my Personal Computer, but it works like a charm with smoother edges and sharper textures, giving this piece of art even more pushing power with stunning visuals and exemplary mechanical decisions.

Note: You DO NOT need a controller for this game, but it is recommended, as it states on the Store-page. I played through this game with a DualShock 4 with a program called InputMapper.

I could write a longer review, but quite frankly, you should only watch this:

No matter what you think of this "reviewer", he has some astonishingly good points, if you can get past the emotional package he has for this game.

A 100% recommendation from me. Experience this game at least once!

Good game with unique gameplay mechanics, beautiful graphics and deep story. Highly recommended for everyone who likes storyrich, movie-like adventure games.

You play as two brothers who are on a journey to find a special "magic water" to cure their father from a deadly disease. And I mean you play/control both brothers at the same time, the older brother with WASD+Space(interact) and the little brother with the arrow keys+rightCTRL(interact). In the beginning this coordination seems to be a huge challenge but you get used to it quite soon and once you can handle this special controls its really fun.
Every brother has his own strenghts and weaknesses (and personality which you notice when you let the brothers interact with certain persons or things) so they have to help each other = you have to coordinate both brothers in their own way to beat the challenges along your way (these "puzzles" are simple to be honest but in my opinion that doesnt matter since the focus in this game is definately on the story and they are still fun to solve).
This kind of mechanics offer a unique and very special gameplay experience.

The graphics are beautiful, especially the water and light effects. Youll fnd a lot of benches along the way, use these opportunities to sit down for a moment and enjoy the view!

Unfortunately the game is relatively short - you need 3-4 hours from start to finish, but nevertheless the story is deep and the characters (the two brothers, there arent any more important characters) are complex, for me personally it felt much longer than the three hours it took me to play it through for the first time.

I encountered one single bug: I got stuck once between a ledge and the hand of a troll but since theres a checkpoint every few minutes that wasnt a serious problem and like I said it happened only once.

Other things to mention: You cant save your game, but there are enough checkpoints. There arent any video or audio settings to configurate except gamma correction and music/effect volume and you cant change the controls - but none of this is necessary or would be useful for the game. The language in the whole game is a fictional language but due to the brothers body language (and the given context in general) you can always understand what they mean.

That was it... nice game. 7/10.

EDIT: Oh I forgot... You wont get a single achievement just during the usual game, for doing what you have to do to get ahead. For the achievements you have to take the bypaths and have to look out for the little things (:

A single game with simple graphics, a quick and surprising history. An amazing title as I did not play for a long time. Note 9/10
