The triangles!! Anything but the triangles!

Sword n' Sworcery is a rather unusually titled game. But it's also a rather unusual game, too. Not that I know anything about Superbrothers after having finished it, but I can safely say that calling the game an EP is actually pretty accurate... Gameplay is overall limited, and you're here for the 'magic', the music, and the atmosphere. Keep an open mind here, S&S doesn't play quite like any other game. You'll only be going through the game once, but if you finish it, it's a worthy experience as games go. Really just the perfect game for people who want a stripped down adventure game which focuses less on gameplay and more on the feel of the experience.

Also- watch out for triangles firing lasers. Deadly things.

A fantasticly short game with the the added feature of accomplishing chapters during the actual phases of the moon! OR Find the Moon Grotto to change the moon phases. OR Change the time and date in your PC to speed up the moon phases in the game. But that idea will only work with the repercussion of a "cheater achievement" that will post! XD

Also, Dogfella is very cool and brings a smile to your face when he barks at you to follow him. He helps you gather the pieces of The Trigon!!!

I Love this game and is going in my all time favs!

It's painfully short, 2deep4u arthouse trash, but I love it. Killer soundtrack, nice atmosphere. Leaves you wanting more. Originaly a phone game, and it shows with the wonky interface. Whoever thought of the social media integration is clearly mentally challenged, but it's a mercifully optional feature.

Highly stylized games are tough to execute with success, but this one nails it. The cool witty writing, phenomenal art and great soundtrack come together brilliantly. I recommend this game! It is a lite "King's Quest" for the modern era.

This game is scenic, atmospheric, and the pixel artwork is impressive. It incorporates music really well - and is lively when progress is made. It even has humorous and witty dialogue that breaks the 4th wall at times. It is easy to see how it could influence other creators. On the negative side, it was unneccessarily cryptic, and I would be suprised if most people beat it without a walkthrough or guide. While playing, I perceived the creators to be self-indulgent and protentious, and cursed them for being so obtuse about how to actually beat the game. I appreciated the ending but it's hard to recommend.

Incredibly pretentious. Insulting gameplay - a bit of Simon Says and simple rhythm combat mixed with random poking around bushes and/or forest animals. Neat music, style and atmosphere completely wasted by easy and boring puzzles and linear (and repetitive) levels. I've bought the hype thinking it was going to be an actual p'n'c adventure, but I should've known better.

Ugly. Very basic point-and-click gameplay. Awesome soundtrack by Jim Guthrie, but that can be **BOUGHT** elsewhere, so no need to saddle yourself with this piece of crap.

Beautiful pixel art, stunning music, and a story that is best described as "baby's first acid trip". It's kind of sad how utterly the game play and story falls short of the art and music. Game play seems like it was tacked on or left so simplistic that it doesn't even register as a challenge. The point and click aspects are lack luster. The characters are all one note and flat as a pancake. The story makes no sense which is good if you prescribe to the hipster theory of “making no sense” is the paragon of art.

The music is worth buying it on sale, but I would probably just try and find the sound track al la carta.

I finished this game last week and it has continued to haunt me since. It's beautiful, quirky, funny, sad, baffling and dreamlike, and I would totally recommend it to anyone. It's called an EP for a reason--I finished in under 5 hours--but it was a very satisfying few hours.

Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery, while linear, proves to be over-the-top and out-of-the-box. While fitting into the pixelated art style that is becoming more popular by the minute, this game may be the only one to pull it off in such a gorgeous and vivid way. Bright colors, unique environments, and the cute little creatures of the forest are all implemented perfectly and without excess noise to drown everything out. The graphical content of this game never ceases to disappoint. From a tiny village, to a waterfall going through the middle of the woods, and even a concert venue with a bear, Capybara makes everything work and keep you wanting more.

Sword & Sworcery tells the tale from a Scythian woman’s point of view as she steals a tome and proceeds to fight a towering specter, numerous small triangles that form a larger triangle, and even that mysterious bear inside a tree that is much bigger on the inside. Using the tome to read your, and everyone else’s, thoughts from second person, this title provides a fun and humorous way to keep you coming back.

While this game is short, it is split into sections. To prolong this game, I recommend playing each session on a different day. As short as it may be, Sword & Sworcery is a fantastic game with a wonderful soundtrack and is for anyone who likes adventure, pixel-art, art in general, or just having a good time.

Actually I hate pixel art - but this game is worth to play: it's strange, beautifull, and full of excitement....

Ненавиджу піксель-арт - але ця гра заслуговує на увагу: вона чудова, трошки дивна, та все-ж таки захоплююча....

I love this game. It brings a unique game play of point and click adventure. In a sense it is like Adventure TIme mixed with Zelda. But what really sets this game as a gem to me is the incoropation of the music into the game that sets the tone and mood.

This title has a neat sensibility and a nice soundtrack. However, there really isn't all that much innovation or things to think about here.

A neat trifle if it's inexpensive.

This was originally designed as an iOS game, and it shows. A few light puzzles and a slightly clunky control scheme, beatable in ~3ish hours depending on what the phase of the moon is. (Not kidding.) But the visuals and audio are great, and the anachronistic writing is kind of charming - it reads like someone describing the act of playing an adventure game, with all the irreverance and meta-commentary that implies.

Three years ago, I wrote a joke review for this game just saying "Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP is an indie game", with the joke being that it looked like the samey pixellated trash that was flooding the indie scene at the time. But now I actually got around to playing it, and I've found that it's actually exactly what I expected it to be.

You don't really do much in this game. Your goal in each area is to find the sprites "hidden" in the area, though they aren't particularly difficult to find. Then you do a quick "puzzle" ranging from things like sliding ducks to their mother to engaging in trial-and-error to find the correct sequence of clicking on trees. You do this a few times and then occasionally fight a boss that plays out kind of like the first Ganondorf fight from Ocarina of Time, where you deflect a missile attack back and forth until it hits it. You meet two characters along your journey and you can see their thoughts, along with your own, in the megatome (a magic book that you find early on), and they're interesting enough to not make you feel like you wasted time reading them but they rarely go beyond that level. The game disagrees, of course, and even if you tell it that you don't want to participate in its twitter functionality early on it's still going to put a tweet button beside every line of dialogue and constantly remind you that social media is going to play an important role in the game (spoilers: it doesn't, at least as far as I could tell).

If the controls were changed at all from the iOS version beyond letting you use your mouse, I couldn't tell. Almost everything is done by clicking and holding, or clicking and holding and sliding, and other things you would expect from a touch screen game. I didn't think it was possible to make a simple point-and-click interface unintuitive, but they've proved me wrong. You can move by either double clicking the area you want to move to or holding and sliding, but holding and sliding produces a constant humming sound that goes against the music, which is presumably the whole point of the game. The music is admittedly good, particularly one part where you can listen to the composer play the guitar while clicking on things in the environment to make your own rhythm alongside him, but a significant portion of it seemed to just be ambiance. It set the scene well, but it isn't something that I'd want to listen to outside of the game, though I'm not sure if that was the point or not.

So in the end, my review 3 years ago was probably better left unchanged anyways. In the time it took you to read all this you could've done something else that takes a minute or two to do, and you still probably wouldn't have touched this game either way for $8. Maybe we'd all be better off if I had never returned to Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP after all these years.
