An excellent horror third person game that stills holds up, being a 8 year old good game is not easy, sometimes the graphics and the gameplay becomes generic and bad, but this game is definitely still good, i love the zero-gravity parts of the game and the boss fights are awesome, play it on hard! in medium is not as good, definitely a must buy for only $5 in a steam sale!

Play this game every Halloween, just to scare the crap out of myself. But only when my wife is home...I'm still too scared to do it alone...

The only one of the series that truely draws you in. The silent narative is what the rest of the series lacks. It definitely Inspires the fear both Aliens the film and System Shock 2 presented as well as the lonelyness of the Metroid series (the original, Gameboy, Super and Prime 1). A game that should not be missed, and played in the dark with headphones...alone...if you can...

Yes, this game has weird mouse controls. Now, with all the negatives out of the way, this is hands down one of the greatest survival horror games out there -- that is, if you play it on Hard or higher (a strange bug causing your game to suddenly switch difficulty from Hard to Normal has however yet not been resolved and never will be). Love atmospheric survival horror but feel like being unable to defend yourself is not fun? Dead Space has you covered -- in layers of blood. Yes, one or two well placed shots to limbs (great system, headshots make no sense here anyway) can disarm (har har) the enemy, but the same pretty much applies to you -- ignore an enemy and say goodbye to half of your medpacks.
Yes, this game utilizes jumpscares. A lot. But it also loves to fake them with long build-ups that result in a vent cover simply falling off. Together with DS2, this is THE survival horror series of our time. And yes, DS2 has superior gameplay, but it lacks the Alien-like atmosphere of this one. And DS3 lacks the ability to let your wallet intact (don't bother).

Amazing game. EA surpassed expectations delivering us a bombastic Sci-fi thriller that will chill your bones and heart at times. Since Doom 3 I've been waiting to feel this spooked and entertained by a Horror game and Dead Space brought it all to the table.
Commands could be a bit easier but I think EA did that on purpose to add to the thrill of it. 10/10

Couldn't play as the controls were broken. Buy Dead Space 2 if you want to play dead space. Again, the controls were completely broken and the game is unplayable unless you like terrible controls then by all means buy it.

Game is unplayable with PC controls. I tried and tried, and even tried more with an xbox controller. I raised up the mouse sensitivity, turned on v sync, and all, but the game has just broken controls. Anyways, besides the horrible controls, the weapons in the game are boring. Although this might seem like a personal gripe, there is also a severe lack of nodes and ammo, which is incredibly annoying. I can understand the lack of ammo makes more better horror, but jesus christ, a lack of ammo being a problem in a game WHERE YOU HAVE TO SHOOT THINGS is WTF??

I don't think I can play this again. m going to uninstall.

While catagorized as horror its scares rely on keeping you on edge with both jump scares and health-kit/ammo shortages. The controls are a bit stiff and there is an intentianal delay in some actions, but rather than being broken it instead makes you feel immersed. You are an engineer in the game, not the doom guy. You aren't trained for combat and you weren't expecting any of this to happen. Your weapons are your literal working tools and you're just trying to get the hell out of dodge alive. There are certain points in the game were you can die in a scripted sequence very easily and the mini cutscene can drag on forever, especially for the final boss. 7/10 no replay value really.

This is hands down one of my all time favorite games. I played all of these games in a mixed order, so this one, the first one, is the last one that I beat. The story was incredibly captivating and kept me on edge. The game play is based on focus and using everything you can to your advantage. Jump scares and intense alien combat are great. Highly reccomended. Personally, my favorite of the series.

The ultimate Sci-Fi survival horror game. Great story and atmosphere. It's like "Event Horizon" meets "Alien I".

Dead Space can be considered a modern classic for survival horror genre or just a bland sci-fi shooter with horror elements. What ever you might think, you can admit that this game does have a decent gameplay and good atmosphere at some points. Weapons and armor look cool and are indeed memorable. Killing necromorphs is fun and sci-fi weapons make it even more fun.

The game still does have a fair share of issues. PC version has poor performance for relatively old game and is buggy, but the amount bugs in play sessions changes. I had a invisible wall when I opened the door (at the first chapter in fact) and I couldn't get through, so I had to change some settings (I can't remember what I did, but you can find out yourself) to fix it. Another bug was in zero-gravity outside the ship where there was asteroids hitting the ship and you had to avoid those by getting into cover. You also had to jump to the walls because of cover and oxygen canisters, but my character somehow didn't land on it and stopped and died for no reason. I had to land much more carefully to avoid it. When I was a bit younger I stopped playing it because of this issue. I didn't understand, what I was suppose to do at the time.

WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!!
This game does have a story which has a lot of clichees. Characters aren't that good and it doesn't help that your main character, Isaac Clarke, is mute. They added voice later on with the sequels gladly, but his personality wasn't that interesting, but still OK. I should still say that the foundation of Dead Space is great. Humanity is lacking resources and for that reason, they built planetcrackers that can go into lightspeed and then grab a huge part of the planet/moon/asteroid to mine it and gather all the resources. There's also a cult with large amounts of members who have their own devious plans. Good setup, but the story of characters is lacking and could've been better.

If you're new to horror genre, this game might be scary to you. Though it's possible that if you're an active gamer, you'll notice the patterns in Dead Space.

This review might sound too cynical to have a recommended status, but I should say that this game is good overall and you should try it if you're into shooters or horror.

I wrote this review because I didn't have anything else to do, so it might be a bit messy. I do hope that my review was readable and easy to understand.
(As always, I might do mistakes when writing text in english, so apologies for any mistakes I made)

After beating this game, I can honestly say, I have no clean underwear.

There are a few annoyances though with this game on PC.
-You need to cap your FPS at about 120 otherwise you will run into various issues
-using the ingame vsync options creates a HUGE amout of input lag
-the y-axis on your mouse moves slower than your x-axis

Other than the game being just old with issues listed above, the game is amazing. Definitly with going through the fixes to play it.

I've played this game three times over the years - a rare occurrence for me. On my most recent play through, I was pleased to find that even after so long the game looks very nice. Strong art design and crisp graphics can help an older game age gracefully, and that is definitely the case here.

Also, on my third play through, I still found the game unsettling and even occasionally scary. For a long time, I thought Dead Space was the scariest game I had ever played. And then I played Outlast. The atmosphere is really good. The score adds a lot of tension. The Necromorphs are pleasantly disgusting. All around, its a good horror game.

I have experienced no issues with this game either. It plays very well on my older computer. This is not to say that bugs and issues cannot occur - plenty have been reported by others. At any rate, it plays very well for me, with no issues.

I definitely recommend Dead Space.
