If you plan to buy this game, I would implore you to reconsider:

I bought this game 2 years ago and have tried to play it on 3 different computers. All of them have above recommended specifications. One computer can handle Fallout 4 and the other two are capable of playing Crysis, Global Offensive and Saints Row 4 all at their highest visual display settings. Two of these computers use AMD chips with AMD GPU and one uses Intel with sufficient HD integrated graphics. Realistically, this game should work on all of these, or at the very least, one of them.

I am but one small voice, though. Searching Google for "Dead Space crashing" will show you that the amount of the people with this problem is not small.

It should be noted that there has been no official attempt by developers to make the game actually compatible. The developers have abandoned creating patches for this game and I don't have any evidence to support that they might resurrect it.

This is a great game, but it would seem that if you bought it on PC you wasted your money.

While I have long since grown tired of horror games using HP Lovecraft's "At The Mountains of Madness" like a formula for plot, I'll grudgingly admit that, after taking some time to simmer on the game and replay it, there are SOME elements of Dead Space which earn some praise. The set pieces within the game itself are very cohesive and make sense within the design of the USG Ishimura (even if it is basically the same levels as System Shock 2's Rickenbacker). The user interface is very well made, and even adds to the inescapable darkness of the game by providing weak, almost timid glows around the holograms. The weapons themselves are shaky, because if you really want to scare someone you shouldn't make sure they have a ridiculous cushion of firepower to hide behind the second things get out of hand, but Dead Space finds an odd middle ground. See, by adopting the same firing style as Resident Evil 4, the game forces actually using your weapon to be a challenging balance of coordination and time management, because missing a shot with even the most overpowered weapon can mean a game over. Combat in the game is an illusory safety if you're not playing on the easiest setting. Also, the ease in spotting where enemies will likely spawn makes the player paranoid, because you're never sure which vent or hall window will burst if you get too close.
The only real problem with the game is that the soundtrack tries too hard to play catch-up with the game, sounding like the orchestra is being tazed whenever an enemy jumps out. A good horror soundtrack acts as a supplement to the media, only stepping in when the silence actually needs to be filled or when unease is necessary that the game can't create on its own. As it is, the best way to play the game is with the soundtrack muted so that the silence really does hammer home the claustrophobia of the game, which is a shame because Jason Graves has some great music in here.

Overall, it's a solid 6 out of 10. Not the best if you're looking for a really stellar horror game, but it shows that at least it's trying.

Don't bother trying to play this on Windows 10. It bugs before the first checkpoint, so even if you find an unofficial fix you still need to spaff 20 minutes up the wall before you can check if it worked. Mouse cursor flickers all over the screen. Sensitivity is completely off. Unplayable with a trackball. Anti-aliasing looks dreadful and the framerate is only lifted if you turn v-sync off, which you need. 0/10

I don't understand why this game is well-rated on Steam. Don't get me wrong - Dead Space 1 is a great game on consoles, but on PC, they f**ked the port up in a number of ways.
1) Framerate is locked to 30FPS when you have VSYNC enabled in-game
2) Keyboard and mouse control is like steering a boat through jelly. Takes a big movement to register anything (seems to have a large 'dead-zone'), and the sensitivity is way down. You will be scrolling your mouse across your whole desk to turn a full circle in-game. If you turn the sensitivity to max, it's slightly better, but then the cursor flies all over the navigation menus. It's crazy.

People have written guides on how to attempt to remedy this and some people have good success, those with ATI graphics cards have to do additioanl tweaking to get it working if they can get it working at all. None of this is the point though, you shouldn't have to trawl forums and run through trouble-shooting just to fix something that should have been immediately obvious to the developers in testing - the controls are broken.

Either play with a gamepad, or just play this on console - you will have a much simpler-to-enjoy experience either way.

Don't play this game without controller. Mouse controls makes this game almost impossible to play because of how slow it is. You can have maximum mouse sensitivity and it still takes you a frikking hour to turn around.

Okay now to the atmosphere of the game. It has its own climate, jumpscares appears from time to time, it has quite interesting combat mechanics. I can't tell anything about the story because, well, I don't have controller so I don't want to mess around for now. From what I heard it might be interesting

I tried this game on a recommendation from my brother, but I wasn't able to get over how poorly the camera was controlled by the mouse. It did not have a smooth acceleration, so when I would move it would start slowly and then snap around, causing me to often over look where I was trying to aim.

Maybe that works for console, but definitely not for PC. I move the mouse, I expect the camera to follow the movements precisely.

Damn noisy game. And it's fun.

The title "Dead Space" sounds very lonely, and that's what this is. There aren't many friendlies, so it's easier to feel emphatic. The game makes up for the lack of initial ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t with having lots and lots of enemies & obstacles, so much that it feels unnecessary at times, but the progression doesn't dull one bit. Most things are very straightforward, which makes Dead Space all the more motivating.

In fact, Dead Space is pretty simple. It does feel like a movie. It's a trip through all of the crap that Isaac moves, shoots, pummels, you name it. But there's one element that this game has, which makes it a game - your control. Go ahead, take control of Isaac, see what the Ishimura's up to.

I do not know another game that does story telling any better. This has been one of my favorite games since I binge played the series over winter break. Even considering that this is an older game, it has aged very well. Basically it's the story of a man constant fighting for his own sanity.

Short verdict: a door opening simulator that pretends to be scary.

Deadspace had a potential. It's, in general, a decent game and there are a few good things in it, but those good things are overshadowed by stupid concepts and suboptimal controls.

I'll start with the good things.

- "Dead Space" is, all-in-all, a well-polished game. It runs smoothly, everything is thoroughly designed. When there's so many buggy and sloppy games out there, it matters. However, I encountered a game-breaking bug at the end of Chapter 11, when I couldn't open a door and it was on stand-by constantly. I had to use another player's save file that I've downloaded from the Internet to finish the game.
- There is a nice set of weapons that you can upgrade. Upgrades are always a good thing, aren't they?
- The level design is intuitive. And even, if you're not sure where to go, you can activate the path marking. That is very handy. It's much better than a mini-map.
- 95% of the time game responds to your needs. Low on health? You get a health pack in the next crate or enemy. Low on ammo? Same thing.
- Apart from shooting enemies, you also have some powers: stasis let's you slow down enemies and time; kinesis allows you to move objects/body parts. There are also zero-gravity areas, where you can walk on the walls and jump over large distances.

Frankly, I didn't enjoy those powers and I absolutely hated the zero gravity missions. I'd rather prefer just shooting the hell out of things. But, at least the devs have tried and variety doesn't hurt. So, I appreciate that.

And, now, (TA-DA-DA-DAAH), the bad things:

- You need to dismember enemies to kill them. No, a headshot is not enough. A body shot does minimum damage. You need to shoot off their limbs/tentacles. It's so unnatural and because of the problematic aiming, also annoying.
- On medium and higher difficulties, the enemies are bullet damage sponges. To shoot off a fricking tentacle, you need 2+ direct hits. A fricking tentacle! Not an armored tentacle. Not a metal tentacle. Just a simple, tiny, soft-tissue tentacle! It just doesn't make sense. While playing on medium difficulty, I was constantly low on ammo in the last few chapters.
(Note: on easy, it's a cake walk. You can shoot without any worries about ammo count).
- Controls. The character is slow. Melee animation takes approximately 3-4 seconds to finish. The aiming lags. It's hard to hit a target, especially, in those sequences, when you're grabbed by that gigantic tentacle with the yellow bulb.
Also, I played this game with an Xbox controller. It's easier like that. And, apparently, this game was primarily made with consoles in mind (framerate capped at 30 FPS, unmentioned controller support, cheats work only with a gamepad), BUT, when I need to shoot the asteroids or the monster in the outer space from a cannon, that is accomplishable only with a mouse. In short, this game has some serious camera and sensitivity issues. Some players even say that it's unplayable. And it's not much of an exaggeration.
- Forced and narrow FOV. Unfortunately, Dead Space is not a first-person shooter. You have a very limited field of vision. I understand that the devs did that to prevent the players to notice the enemies that crawl behind, to make it more scary. But it's not scary. It's just inconvenient and, occasionally, annoying, especially, in some puzzles, when you need to oversee a large area, but you can't, because of the FOV.
- The whole dismemberment concept. The idea is that the corpses can't transform into the monsters (necromorphs), if they are dismembered, and some might think that it's cool and gory. Except that it isn't. It's stupid and childish. And, since the human corpse dismemberment doesn't have any impact on the gameplay and, most of the time, you dismember the monsters with weapons anyway, so why bother? I think that it's a failed concept.
- It's not atmospheric, it's not scary. There's nothing "horror" about it. The game overuses jump scares to make it seem scary, but it fails. Without the proper atmosphere, those things just do not work. Also, there are a lot of safe zones in between. So, no sweat. Not that I care, I just like to shoot things. But, for those of you who do care, I recommend F.E.A.R. It does a much, much better job at creating a tense atmosphere.
- The story is mediocre. And many questions are left unanswered. I did understand what happened before and during the events of the game. And there are some explanations of why some characters did what they did, and what is the history with the Marker and the Church of Unitology. But those explanations are bad. It just doesn't make sense to me. I watched this video to find the answers: But it still seems like a non-sense to me.
- Puzzles. Firstly, puzzles in a shooter? Why? Second, they are boring and all the same: you just need to re-arrange objects. Third, the FRICKING NARROW FOV!!!

It's hard for me to decide, whether to put "thumbs up" or "down", but I think, all-in-all, Dead Space gameplay is so problematic that I can't recommend it. I did not really enjoy playing it, I finished it only because it was not bad enough not to finish it.

My overall rating: 5/10.

I highly recommend this game at first glance it appears just a basic plot but i found myself wanting to know what happened next after every single objective i completed, this game has an suspensful eerie feel around every corner because the atmosphere is on point and the monsters pop out when you least expect it and when you do expect it they dont pop out. Because of this i found myself jumping everytime they'd pop out and be carefully looking around each corner. Im excited to check the rest of the series cause i really enjoyed this game 8/10

~Dead Space is one of the First Horror games that i really wanted to complete simply because of the story, although, as you read, it has more to understand than just a Abandoned Space Ship with Monsters....
~This Game is the Defining Space Horror Game, more action packed than something like Alien: Isolation but the Environment coupled with the Smart Mechanics and Formidable Enemy AI are the strong points of this EA Game!
Alright let’s get Started on The Good Aspects first:

+The Story is Immersive and Deep on the Scale of 3 games. There’s much to understand, the whole cause of chaos experience in the Ishimura is not only explained in DS1 but also in other forms of media such as Books, Animated Movies, Graphics novels, a Wii Game and even a little Mobile game (How cute). No Spoilers here but there are many things that contribute to the Plot such as that Universe's Primary "religion" (AKA- Cult) called Unitology.
+Speaking of Story, a Bulk of the Backstory, is found from Logs within the Levels (Well Hidden of course.) This really Helps the Player understand Many Characters, Events and even teaches them how to play Zero-G Basketball!!
+The HUD is very Realistic; it is Projected outwards in front of Isaac's face when he walks. Want to Rummage through Ammo while a battle is happening? You will most likely Die...
+The Difficulties are very balanced for the types of gamer out there, from a simple run and gun easy difficulty with lots of supplies (Almost too many) to the Impossible mode which has fewer checkpoints, OP Enemies, hardly any Supplies (Just the way i like it), Bad Starting Suits, Few upgrades and a loss of that checkpoint instantly if you close/exit the game at all. That’s for the Hard-core Gamer who prefers a true horror Experience.
+Loading Times? Where?
+Atmosphere is undoubtedly the game’s biggest Strong Point. an almost empty ships filled with Necromorphs ( which are actually the ships deceased crew that, due to an Alien Virus, have Transformed into Bloodthirsty Necromorphs!..Its complicated.) that seem to be around every dark corner (There’s quite a few!) The Metallic Clang of Claws in a vent above you, or the Creaking of the Hull, or Heavy Thuds from the Asteroid belt pelting the ship are all some prime examples of how well the game deals with the unique atmosphere. It’s a Mix of Event Horizon, The Thing and even System Shock 2!
+Scares a-plenty!
+Extremely Innovative targeting Mechanic= Strategic Dismemberment, go for the Limbs..
+Sound is Very Realistic and Proportional, some moments you have to stand still and be quiet to hear where the necromorph is crawling... -----
+Weapon Options are plentiful
+Interesting Currency and requirements to get some Credits
+Upgradable Suits (up to 6 levels!)
+HUD is very informative, you will hardly ever get lost with the 3D map Design
+New Game Plus Ability (Definietely Worth it)
+Boss Battles are Excellent and each are around the right length as well.
Huge Alien Creatures vs Puny Engineer with a Bulky Suit but Heavy Weapons and
Badass "Gadgets"= Interesting/Gory Results!
+Death Animations, Mortal Kombat meets the Thing! Blood will be spilled, then
poured and then Splashed! (R18 for this reason!)


-The Story is handled very slowly, which is bad for fast paced gamers. Easy to
Normal Mode should be the Right speed for most players.
-By Default, the Mouse Sensitivity and Smoothing is Very awkward and irregular.
-Crashes during Big Battles, with lots on the screen. Very rare though.
-Linear Levels with little Variaton. Although you are on the Ship it would be
nice to see differently themed levels.
-Lack of Interactive Items in levels
-Many Collectibles can be too Difficult to find in 1 or even 2 playthroughs,
guide recommended.
-Save File can be Overwritten Accidentally due to placement when you are
-Characters are hardly touched apon in detail. Little Emotional Connection
between the Player and Isaac! (Which is not good, because of his Motivations)
-No Co-op, would have added a slightly more action feel. (Good and Bad)
-No Achievements, Minor really.
-Graphics issues include: Stuttering,Frame Drops and bad resolution by default.
-Backtracking during the early parts up the Middle is really irritating!

Final Thoughts?
It has lots of replay value with suits and upgrades to try out
But id recommend buying during a sale since its been out for about 8 Years!!
Its a Good Game just By Itself without the Sequels to steer the Underlying
Plot. (This is Because the other 2 PC games are more action orientated)
Definetely a Wise choice for a Horror game Fan/Collector.
It has aged well too, using many innovative features that would be on the level
of many horror games today!
Isaac Clarke the Everyday Engineer turned Space-Hero, has a Realistic Feel to
it that fits well with the Plot.

This really is a fantastic game. I picked it up a few years ago and lost my saves about a third of the way in. I couldn't bring myself to start from the beginning again for about three years. I finally got round to it.

Great game, make sure you play with the lights down. It is very atmospheric.

Well worth picking up the second and third games as well.

When people say that only the japanese can make good survival horror, I slap them and tell them to play this game. It's EA before they got greedy, and Visceral before they started making mediocre action games. While it's relatively short and light on exploration, it tells a great story and is truly a horrifying experience if played in the dark with headphones in.

Make yourself whole, buy this game.

I really feel like this game must be played on hard difficulty because medium just feels like a casual third person shooter, you get tons of ammo and the necromorphs are easy to kill. Hard genuinely feels like a survival horror game. The monsters feel like a real threat because they are challenging and you have to conserve your ammo which creates alot of tension during the fights. I don't think the game is scary at all however. The atmosphere and setting is great but the scares themselves i didn't find effective at all.
I can think of two reasons why the scares don't work, guns and third person. When an enemy jumps out you have a way of defending yourself by shooting them so that vulnerability factor is lessened because of that. This is why games like amnesia and outlast work so well at being scary because you have no way of defending yourself. Even a game like Fear works so well, even though its a first person shooter the scares are supernatural and unkillable which is what makes it so effective. Because the game is in third person the monsters don't jump out in your face like they would in first person. The scares are at a distance from you because you are positioned behind the character you are playing. I don't think the game needs to be scary to work though it's still a great game because of its amazing atmosphere and sound effects and the game is just fun to play.

我是一个热恋中的工程师,跟着包工大哥来到了石村号。还有个妹子给我们检 ♂ 查身体。结果发现不但没人请我们吃饭,还没人迎接我们。上船后我们发现这帮货好省电不开灯的。人们也不出来做运动。我只好去找人,可惜没找到人。找到了一堆留着哈喇子要吃我的怪物。有个怪物还被电梯夹死了,嘿嘿嘿。不知道为什么我走着走着总会有饥饿的家伙突然嚎叫着要吃我。简直吓尿了。后来我充值了VIP会员。带上我的苹果耳机。听着歌一路平推过去。但是每次我进房间我都贴着一侧走。每次坐电梯我都看看天花板。每次开门我都会看着背后。终于我回到了我的小船上。我以为我可以走了。结果妹子使坏把船给我炸了。于是我只能回去找包工头和妹子。妹子指挥我干这个 ,干那个。包工头也不敢说什么。我只能默默地清理垃圾运送货物。途中看到好几个神经病,有个不吃饭在那切尸体玩,切完了自杀了。还有个抱着别人说对不起。太晚了早干啥去了。说完还自杀了。还有个妹子身材很棒,衣服也很干净 就在那傻笑。傻笑完还自杀。 真是的。唉趁热 嘿嘿嘿。还碰见俩兄弟跟户愚吕似的。不死之身。一个被我送到冰地狱。一个被我送到了火地狱。后来我拉着一群傻屌崇拜的图腾是回到了那个破星球。就在我以为要结束的时候。妹子出现了。妹子要把图腾上交给国家。我不同意。山谷里的怪兽也不同意。不同的是怪物先动手了。用巨大的触手穿刺 碾压了妹子。我为了妹子报仇把怪物杀了。最后我开着飞船飞出了这个破星球。妹子发来了视频被我挂断了。我扭头看向副驾驶。你TM在副驾驶还跟我视频干啥。快来嘿嘿嘿。
