A good game saddled by some poor decisions and publisher politics.

The Buddha engine's 30 FPS cap, while inexcusable, pales in comparison to the scrap stutter bug that all but makes play impossible after too many waves of enemies. Double Fine have isolated the issue, but the remedy would require the removal of GFWL, something Microsoft Studios (the publisher) is obviously loathe to agree to.

While I would like to recommend the game, I cannot recommend the issues that are hampering it, thus I'd advise to only buy it after GFWL has been removed, should that ever occur.

A game about love. [updated]

There are no regrets about love. You can't buy love. But you can buy Iron Brigade.
Where there is love, there is always something to hate too. Here it is gfwl.
But love is bigger than hate. Iron Brigade is bigger than gfwl.

While this gem has it's flaws, it's a most enjoyable experience.
If you aren't burned by the hate of a thousand suns, when you
hear the acronym gfwl, you will find something unique here.

There are also a bunch of decent folks around the forums,
looking to form a merry suicidal squad for coop games.

Addendum: Concerning variety

With every battle you do, you'll gain experience, access to new equipment, different
weapons, which can be used in different variations, different chassis, depending on
your personal prefered playing style. There's always the possibility to make the
game harder on yourself, not every choice of loadout will work in every situation.

Like in every game that offers a variety of choices, the changing of patterns leads
to success. A boss that seemed to be near invincible is suddenly a piece of cake,
because of a change of strategy and tactics you deployed.

A mistake many people make, is just going for the dps, or a singular strategy.
Spamming towers and not upgrading them doesn't seem to die out too.

There are vast possibilities, choosing a heavy trench, only relying on turrets
for basic support, choosing an engineer trench, having lower turret prices,
supporting your high powered turrets with close range weaponry for example.
Or the assault trench, with a loadout, balanced between turrets and weapons.
You can decide if you'll go up front with close range weapons, rain down death
from a above with artillery, or be the designated sniper. Or choose speed legs
for your trench, and be a close combat artillery kamikaze trench. It's up to you.

You can go crazy in Iron Brigade, and still be successful, as Iron Brigade
embraces craziness. :-D

It has a game-breaking bug that makes the game unplayable in multiplayer (which the game is mainly made for, and what you should be playing for the full experience), and the devs cannot patch it because of issues with Microsoft.

Felt the need to write this because I bought it on Xbox 360 and it was hours of fun with friends, and now it's free on Xbox. On PC, I sadly realized that the game was incredibly broken with the bug, and I bought the 4 pack only to be disappointed. Was a big waste of 40 bucks and just want to inform you guys who are considering getting it from the sale that you could get something that is actually 100% working for the price.

I would recommend this game in a heartbeat on Xbox, but the issue on PC is too bad for it to be overlooked.

The most "gamey" of Double Fine's efforts so far and arguably the best of them. I like mechs. I like loot. Mix the the two together with a funny premise and Double Fine's signature offbeat humour and you have Iron Brigade (Trenched for us purists out there). Best consumed with company, Iron Brigade is a great co-op game. Play alone and you'll be bummed out.

Unfortunately, the game is locked at 30 frames per second. Though that's perfectly playable, my laptop can do better than that. Moreover, the shadow of GFWL hangs heavy over this game. Microsoft owns the IP, which means you have to go through another layer of tedious account verification to play this thing.
Recommended with caveats.

A gritty-battle in parrallel universe. With art styles dating back to WWII and a unique perspective of what one man and a ton of turrets can do to a hell-bent madmen with a boat-load of monsters coined tubes. Unique game play makes this game replayable countless times, The multiplayer offers way to beat troublesome level and learn different techniques. This game is definitely worth a look to anyone who enjoys a good mech-styled game and fun customization.
