The Use of Life - PLAYISM_CS
We've received another status update from Daraneko.
Please give it a read.

=================================

Hello everyone. It's May.
Which means it's almost been a year since we started Early Access.
Personally, I don't want to perceive the passage of time and how quickly it all went by.

Anyway, now that everything surrounding the March update has more or less settled down, I've decided to start writing these regular status updates again, this time concerning the development of Chapter 4.

Right now, we've finished the map for Chapter 4.
Like this one!

And we also have our first indoors map.
I think it'll feel different from any of the maps we've seen so far.

Currently, I'm working on designing the data for equipment and enemies.
I also have to commission new artwork at the same time, so I have to do this as soon as possible. It's kinda hectic.
(I might also start looking for a new artist to draw assets such as battle background art and enemy sprites.)

Next month, I'll wrap up all of the above and start focusing on writing story events.
Well then, see you next time!

=================================

And that's all for this status update.
Development is still going strong, so please continue to support us!

SVFI - Justin62628
SVFI 3.31 Professional Season Beta Released,
  1. Super-resolution models: BasicVSR++, FTVSR, two super-resolution algorithms with highest academic score, only available with NVIDIA GPUs and the free optimization DLC. These two algorithms support input of multiple images for super-resolution for better detail reconstruction, using the new “input seq-length” option in SR settings. VRAM is heavily consumed. Thus only NVIDIA GPUs with 6G+ VRAM are recommended. Use the tiling function in SR settings appropriately to reduce VRAM usage.
  2. A TensorRT workflow designed for CUGAN , RealESRGAN and BasicVSR++ Track3 that can greatly accelerate (200%+ in speed!) the Super Resolution process, using NVIDIA GPUs with CUDA cores. Available by selecting cugan_trt , RealESR_trt or basicvsrpp_ntire_t3_decompress_max_4x_trt. Ahead compilation is needed, please wait patiently for around 15 to 20 minutes before the actual SR takes off. Previous super resolution settings are recommended to avoid redundant trial and errors. Re-compilation is needed every time the settings are changed. Please make good use of the preset system.
  3. SDR2HDR AI model: FMNet model, generate HDR10 content from SDR in one click.
  4. TensorRT Accelerated RIFE 4.6, GMFSS union_v model
  5. Based on the new decoding process of VSPipe, enable the "Use VSPipe" option in "Output Quality" settings to use QTGMC deinterlacing, fast noise addition and other functions.

UPDATE: Do not display reward icons for prototype trains UPDATE: Localizations (cs: ui; nl: ui; ru: ui) UPDATE: Sensors can be built on occupied & allocated tracks UPDATE: Track and track sprites improved, should be more clear when zoomed out UPDATE: When building signal over different signal, primary action is 'Change type' (was: 'Grab') FIX: "Always show track speeds colors" were turning off FIX: Building item change caused animation glitch - previous action list jumped down to the bottom of the screen and the new one jumped up FIX: Hidden UI was still interactable FIX: Save containing prototype train with 2 subsequent stops at the same station (e. g. an urban contract train) was not loadable FIX: Time was running in Editor, causing timetable times not aligned to whole minutes FIX: Track preview became invisible when connector destination was occupied track

INSPIRE - husmanofficial
Hey Everyone,

Excited to bring you another monthly update with regard to the development of INSPIRE!

The following milestones have had the main focus the past month:

- Resistance Patrols & Resistance Watchtowers.

I've further updated the game's battle system to include dynamic patrols and watchtowers being built to aid you in your battle against the alien invaders. Now you don't have to battle the aliens on your own anymore.

- Level design Stormfall & Arctic Ridge

Each month I try to flesh out the world of INSPIRE a bit more and in the past month, I laid the groundwork for two new zones called Stormfall & Arctic Ridge. Stormfall is inspired by Iceland and Arctic Ridge by Spitsbergen(Which I visited earlier this year.) Tune into the May Devlog to see how these turned out!

-Enemy Design Harvester

I've finalized one of the main enemy bosses in the game. The giant worm-like creature from the trailer! This 'Harvester' will roam Dustpeak, a rugged mountainous zone. The creature will have multiple attacks and destroyable parts, making for a very tough battle!

- Level generation Ancestral Jungle & Endless Sands

The next step after the level design is level generation. This is the population of the levels with enemies, loot, dynamic events & seasonal events. This I've completed for both the Ancestral Jungle & Endless Sands. Both give unique gameplay experiences. The Endless Sands has a massive Dune-like sandstorm that you have to be wary of. The Ancestral Jungle has some very hazardous flora & fauna.

- Ecosystem

A small coding change, with great gameplay benefits, is the creation of an ecosystem that separates animals from the aliens. This seems terribly logical now that I write it down lol. But beforehand both animals and aliens had the same tag, making them both a team against the player and friendlies. But now that they are separated it makes for some great generative gameplay where a group of panthers might corner a few aliens, or a group of aliens killing the deer in an area.

That's all for this month's monthly report! Make sure to keep an eye out on the socials and YouTube channel for the next devLog for a more visual representation of the above-mentioned points!

I hope you have an awesome week!

Jumplight Odyssey - Chan
Hello Spacefarers! 🌙

Our last Developer’s Log hinted at one of our proudest in-game features: Away Missions.

The clues that we gave were ominous enough… We said that “things aren’t always easy, and in a survival situation, sometimes risks are vital for the survival of the greater good… Including the notorious Away Missions”.

So… What are Away Missions? Why are Away Missions? Who are Away Missions? :eye: :lips: :eye:

Lettttt’ssss go!

What are Away Missions? Why are they important?
With the SDF Catalina at your command, you will quickly realise that Away Missions are a vital part of the function of the ship. You can dispatch a spacecraft with personnel of your choosing to complete missions with varying degrees of risk – all with the objective of earning critical resources, rescuing stragglers, or a variety of other benefits to help keep the Catalina moving.

Without Away Missions, the Catalina would quickly run dry, the crew would despair and everything would hit the metaphorical fan (or perhaps vent in this situation?)

Ultimately, Away Missions are an integral part of our core game loop. You will engage with them after every jump in order to keep your ship stocked with all the goodies that you need to maintain your population and expand your capabilities. It’s also how you’ll bring new crew onto the ship, including some special rare finds.

They are so important that, in order to be a successful Captain, you’ll need to plot your route through the stars with them in mind. Do I take the long way to go via a resource-rich Asteroid Field, knowing that the Zutopans will gain ground on me? Do I risk taking my ship to a molten-spewing Fractured World, in search of the precious Metal found their in abundance? We expect the player to be making these sort of 'Captain’s calls' often.

Away Missions, and the benefits they may bring, are at the heart of these decisions.

As they say…

“Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars”

Well, sort of. Heh.

Each of these missions will demand different things of the SDF Catalina -- whether this be crew, spacecraft, risk assessment levels and/or resource benefits.

Some crew will be naturally better suited to certain mission types due to their Division membership and any special Callsign they may have!

🔭 Scout Missions
Gain Intel on Star System, learning its Biome and Missions.

Different Biomes will hold different missions and resources. You'll need to plot your course carefully to make sure you can get the resources you need, when you need them. Need Biomass? Look for a Verdant World. Low on water? Head to a Frozen System to crack open a floating iceberg.

Getting to know each Biome is a key skill for a Captain to master. Each Sector of space will contain different Biomes, meaning different opportunities.

(We can chat about Sectors and Biomes in their own deepdive later…)

📝 Survey Missions
Reveal the yield of Resource Missions, expose hidden Salvage Missions.

Some missions (including juicy Salvage Operations) are hidden, so you'll need to spend time surveying for them. But don't forget; time spent surveying is more time for the Zutopans to catch up to you... The risk may be worth the reward... Sometimes.

You'll need to decide how much you want to gamble on these.

💧 Resource Extraction
Gain an amount of a given resources.

Resource extraction will send a crew to a potentially hazardous planet to collect valuable resources. The success of the mission depends on the skill and traits of the crew, the risk level accepted, the ship deployed and the player’s ability to navigate the risks and rewards of the extraction process.

⛑ Rescue Extraction
Gain an amount of Civilians.

Much like Resource Extraction missions, Rescue Extraction are missions where the crew search for galactic stranded folks. Successfully returning with a new group of survivors is a sure-fire way to restoring a bit of Hope to those onboard.

You may be surprised by the results of some missions. A routine Rescue Operation may bring aboard a surprise character, for example. There's some nasty surprises to find out there in the cosmos too. Like what is that strange cough your pilot picked up on a Rescue Extraction mission? I wouldn't worry about it, I'm sure it's nothing.. 👀

🛦 Combat Air Patrol:
Gives early warning of threats for Combat Air Patrol response.

With Combat Air Patrol Missions, your crew are patrolling for any threats that may present themselves. Having this mission active will mean Combat is immediately responded to and there are no scrambling-related delays. The Patrol lasts until the craft are Recalled, or until the Fighter is out of Munitions.

We’ll speak to Combat in Jumplight Odyssey more in future Developer’s Logs!

… As well as the other types of Away Missions .

More on the Shuttles!
There are versatile spacecraft aboard the SDF Catalina. Some Spacecraft trade durability in favour of speed, and vice versa. Choosing your which Spacecraft to invest in will define your strategy; are you going slow for a bigger payload, or fast for a quick return?

Only the Bravest…
Spacecraft need pilots. As captain, you'll be assigning a compliment of crew to each spacecraft, who will then depart with it on missions. The larger the craft, the larger the crew. This choice matters; each crew assigned will bring a bonus based upon their division (for example, Science Division members reduce damage dealt to all crew members). Furthermore, some crew have rare Callsigns, acquired in the line of duty, which provide additional, impactful bonuses - and, occasionally, drawbacks too!

You can find out more very soon. After all, there's much, much (much much) more to come!

Until then…

Keeping your Hope Bars full,

<3 LoG
