About This Game

For years the bamboo grew around his hut, and he let it. Now the old ronin opens a dusty box, takes out his katana one last time, and starts cutting.

Every swing feels good

Swing through a grove and watch the stalks drop one after another, in the order your blade passed them. The tops hang for a moment, slide off the cut, then come crashing down. If you're quick, you can slice the falling pieces again before they hit the ground.

Young bamboo near the hut is thin and gives way easily. Further out it gets older, thicker and stubborn. Swing at a stalk your blade can't handle and the katana stops dead in it. Come back when it's sharper.

Bring it home

Everything you cut can be collected. Carry armfuls of bamboo back to the hut, watch the pile grow, and trade it for upgrades: a sharper blade, a wider swing, a faster arm, room to carry more. Each upgrade lets you clear more with a single swing.

You won't be alone for long

Helpless Pandas are stuck somewhere in the forest. Free them and they'll start cutting and hauling bamboo alongside you. They're not very fast. They are very good company. Then, there are lost shrines hidden deep in the wilderness. Find them, pray and unlock special moves that only a blade master could pull off.

A different forest each time

Shrines, pandas, secrets and the master's grave are placed differently every time you start a new game. Share your seed with a friend to play the same forest, or start fresh and look for the signs above the treetops.

At the end you'll see how it went: how long it took, how many swings, how many stalks fell, and your biggest single cut. Anything you beat from a previous run gets highlighted.
