1978, a garage, one machine. Milesyon is a demanding tycoon spanning 48 years of video game history, where luck does not exist: same seed, same world. In the end, your run becomes an illustrated book, written and painted on your machine. To play is to write.

“Milesyon is far from finished, and I would rather write that plainly than let you find out.

You can play it end to end today, from 1978 to 2026, and there is already a lot of game there. But what Milesyon has to become is far larger than what you would download this week. What's missing isn't polish:

THE INDUSTRY ISN'T PLAYABLE. Hardware makers, silicon, shareholders, rival studios: right now they are forces that land on you, not things you manoeuvre. That's an entire half of the game that doesn't exist yet.

THE BALANCE ISN'T SETTLED. Forty-eight years of economic simulation can't be calibrated in a garage. It takes thousands of runs, and I will never play enough of them alone.

THE BOOK IS A FIRST GENERATION. It already tells your run; it has to learn to tell it far better.

MODDING IS RUDIMENTARY. Scripts and shaders are open, but you can't yet write your own eras, platforms or rules.

WHOLE STRETCHES OF HISTORY REMAIN TO BE WRITTEN. Events, machines, movements, period texture: the journey works, but it needs to be much denser.

I could spend three years alone deciding all of this. It would be a mistake. The subject of this game is an industry many people lived through, and often know better than I do.

Above all, there's one choice I don't want to make alone: should the game go down into the workshop - founders who age, teams that remember, the human cost of decisions - or up into the industry - designing chips, launching machines, facing down capital? Both appeal to me, they don't produce the same game, and one person can't build them at once.

That's why I'm opening Early Access: an unfinished game, owned as such, with the remaining decisions made together with the people who play it.”

“18 to 24 months.

It's long because a lot is left to do, and because I'm doing it alone. Designing a major system, opening it to discussion, making it playable, then reworking it in the light of real runs takes months - and there are several to build.

I would rather state a realistic duration and keep it than a short date that would force me to settle, in a hurry and by myself, the very questions Early Access is meant to open. If the community steers the game toward a more ambitious build, I'll say so openly rather than cut corners on it.”

“The full version will be a substantially larger game than today's.

Early Access gives you the 1978-2026 journey from the studio's side: found it, hire, design, ship, survive, with the Book at the end.

The full version has to add the industry itself, a markedly deeper simulation, and the means to extend the game well beyond what I'll write myself. The intended work, whose order and scope will be decided during Early Access:

SILICON. Designing your chips and your machines, trading off performance, cost and yield, protecting your inventions, and living with the consequences for twenty years.

RIVALS ON EQUAL TERMS. Giving opposing studios your levers - fans, reputation, visibility - instead of separate rules.

STUDIOS WITH PEOPLE IN THEM. Founders who age, hand over or cling on; a talent market where poaching costs something, in both directions.

CAPITAL AGAINST THE WORKSHOP. Shareholders who demand, boards that push back, hostile takeovers, a banker sitting across from you.

A DENSER HISTORY. More events, machines and movements, and balance reworked against thousands of real runs.

A GAME OTHERS EXTEND. Modding that lets you write your own eras, platforms and rules, so Milesyon becomes a foundation rather than a closed game.

None of this is promised in that order: it is precisely what we're going to debate.”

“The game is playable end to end, with no gaps, from 1978 to 2026: studio and market simulation, teams, research, platforms appearing and disappearing, rivals, crises. The Book is written and illustrated locally at the end of a run. All 50 achievements are in, the game is translated into 15 languages and runs entirely offline.

In other words: there is plenty to play, right now.

But it isn't finished, and it shouldn't be bought as if it were. The industry isn't playable yet, the balance across 48 years still has to be proven over a great many runs, the Book is a first generation, modding is limited, and the historical density has a long way to grow. Some of those pieces will change how the game is played, not just how it is won.

Buy it if the current state is already enough for you and if the idea of shaping what comes next appeals to you. Otherwise, wait - I'll completely understand.”

“Yes, moderately, when the full version releases: the game will contain an entire half that doesn't exist today.

Early Access players will have paid the lowest price it will ever have, and will owe nothing further. Today's price is for today's game, not for tomorrow's promises.”

“By deciding, not by reporting.

Every major direction will follow the same path, in the open: a written proposal with its alternatives, an open discussion on the Steam forums, a decision that is made and explained, then a playable beta branch before anything is integrated - or dropped, if the attempt convinces no one.

And there's the run code. Because the world is deterministic, a handful of characters is enough to hand me your exact world, bit for bit. So a code isn't a bug report: it's an argument. "Here's a run where the industry felt dead after 1997" carries further than a long message, because I can open that world, live in it, and discuss what ought to be added to it.

That's how it will be decided what Milesyon becomes: on worlds we have both seen.”

Every run becomes a book.

1978. A garage, 120,000 dollars, and an industry that doesn't have a name yet. Ahead of you: forty-eight years of machines, fashions, crashes and miracles. You won't cross them as a spectator - you'll leave a mark, and the game will write that mark down.

A tycoon that doesn't cheat

  • A world that lives without you. Platforms are born, take over, and die. Rival studios rise, acquire, collapse. Genres fall out of fashion. Silicon marches on. Nothing waits for you to be ready.
  • No hidden luck. The simulation is fully deterministic: the same seed produces exactly the same world. No secret dice to cover a bad decision, no invisible hand to save you. Your failures belong to you - and so do your triumphs.
  • A whole run fits in a code. A handful of characters rebuilds your world identically, on anyone's machine, bit for bit. A challenge can be issued, a disaster proven, a victory replayed.
  • Failure is part of the story. Your studio can die. The Vigil will then show you where it turned - month by month, decision by decision. It isn't a game over screen: it's the last page of a chapter.

And at the end, the Book

What sets Milesyon apart comes down to an object. As you play, the game writes your studio's book: prose that tells your years, illustrations painted for your games and your turning points, music to read them by. Acts, chapters, a rise, and perhaps a fall.

That book exists nowhere else. It speaks only of your run - that studio, those people, that 1994 gamble that changed everything. You can read it, export it, give it away.

Embedded intelligence, never a service

The storyteller and the painter ship with the game and run on your machine. No account, no subscription, no server, no connection: Milesyon works offline, permanently. These models don't play for you and don't invent your run - they tell what you did.

The pleasure of constraint

Milesyon doesn't flatter you. It resists you, the way reality resists. It lets you be wrong for a long time, and lets you understand why. This is a game for people who prefer a defeat they earned to a victory they were handed.

And the day you last forty-eight years, you'll have more than a score. You'll have a book.

This game generates content with AI, entirely on your machine: an embedded, frozen local model writes and illustrates the "Book" of each run (texts and fictional game covers). No internet connection is required, no data is collected, and nothing is generated by external services. The game's translations were AI-assisted, then human-reviewed.
