Wat de ontwikkelaars zeggen:

Waarom vroegtijdige toegang?

“We’re releasing in Early Access because our initial goal was to release in April (with a lot less features that you are seeing now). But due to the overwhelming response and support from our Kickstarter backers and reaching over 1200% of our goal, we wanted to add a lot more content and features so we can bring you the best game possible! We’re still releasing in April, just in Early Access instead and with a lot more features implemented than we initially planned, and with a lot more still to come. Hop on for the ride!”

Hoe lang blijft deze game ongeveer in vroegtijdige toegang?

“We will be working on the game until both us and the community feels confident in the feature set presented, but that won't be the end of the game's development either! We have released nearly a patch a week since our Kickstarter ended, so we are fully dedicated to the success of the game.”

Hoe gaat de volledige versie verschillen van de versie met vroegtijdige toegang?

“Unlocked Stretch Goals:
3 Additional Game Modes [2 MORE GAMES HAVE BEEN ADDED!]
Mod Support (3D Models) [THIS HAS BEEN ADDED!]
RPG Kit (30 animated figurines, Dungeon Tileset, Character Sheets) [MOST OF THIS HAS BEEN ADDED!]
Steam Workshop Support [THIS HAS BEEN ADDED!]
CastAR Support
Oculus Rift Support
Customizable Figurines
Space Theme
and tons more!”

Wat is de huidige staat van de versie met vroegtijdige toegang?

“Tabletop Simulator has all the fundamental features of the game ready for you to play. With over 15 games to choose from and the sandbox nature of the game, you are set to play hundreds of different games. In addition, you can create your own mods and upload them directly to Steam Workshop. The only limitation is of your imagination.

Tons of new content is still to come and your support will help make the game grow even more. Different features are subject to change and your feedback will help shape the direction we take the game for the better!”

Zal de game anders geprijsd worden tijdens en na vroegtijdige toegang?

“The price will increase when the game leaves early access so be sure to pick it up to save some dosh!”

Hoe zijn jullie van plan de community te betrekken in het ontwikkelproces?

“We love our community and are proud that we take our community seriously! With the updates almost every week since our Kickstarter ended, we've taken a lot of the suggestions and feedback they have given us and implemented them into the game! So it's very important to give us your feedback, so we can make Tabletop Simulator the best it can be!”

Fall Steam Sale - 33% off! Update v3.3 is now live!

Happy Thanksgiving! For Update v3.3, Tabletop Simulator is 33% off (repeating of course), in the Steam Fall Sale until Dec 2 at 10am PST!

Wednesday isn’t usually our update day, but we decided to get one out for you early before the Thanksgiving weekend began, so enjoy! This update focuses on a rebuilt save format, making it much easier overall and giving users more control over them. So this means that you can now properly save custom decks and bags to your chest!

Remember to check out our Wiki for additional help. If you are registered on our forums, you are welcome to add anything related to Tabletop Simulator to help your fellow community members.

Rehauled Save Format:
  • New Json save format, a human readable format that will allow more control over objects.
  • Optimized the save code to avoid any stutter when saving.
  • Json is very expandable without having to worry about breaking old version save files.
  • Old saves will still work just fine, all new saves will be Json.
  • Bags can now be properly saved to the chest.
  • Json will allow modders to create save generators with external tools.
  • Modify the scaling of an object in each axis independently in the save file.

Modify Objects Physics:
  • Can now modify the physics properties of object by modifying the Json save files.
  • There are two classes - the Rigidbody (mass, drag, etc) and physics material (friction, bounciness, etc).
  • You can read up on how to modify these properties on our Wiki page.

Custom Card Improvements:
  • Overall stability improvements for loading and saving custom decks.
  • One broken download for cards will not mess up the rest of the cards downloaded.
  • You can see the progress of custom cards because they will visually update during the download.
  • Merged decks saved to the chest will now properly load.
  • You can now load decks from a save file using the expand arrow (some older saves will not work).
  • Custom Decks now cleanup on RAM much better when they are deleted individually.

General Improvements:
  • Color tinting bags is now working, this should help organize your saves.
  • Improved the spawn position when pulling a card from a deck of cards.
  • Grid settings now reset when the table resets.
  • Better URL cleanup for custom content with automatic url whitespace trimming, might help with RAM usage in certain scenarios.
  • Empty server names will now default to "?".
  • Improved object network syncing, when FPS is low and ping is high.
  • Reduced other players pointer smoothing, so the positions are more accurate.

Fixes:
  • Download status being wrong when loading directly from one save to another.
  • Fixed flip table bug not allowing the table to respawn or load another game.
  • Fixed floating deck bug when loading locked decks.
  • Fixed notification arrow sound distance.
  • Cards taken from a deck now inherit the deck's grid setting.

Update v3.2 - Paint/Drawing Tool, Card Improvements, & Increased Character Limits

We’ve added in another feature that was requested by the community and that is a paint/drawing tool! Have fun with it and please give us feedback on it. We’ve also increased the character limit of Player Names, and made some card improvements.

Part 1 of our Tutorial Series is also online. This one covers all the basic controls in the game. Please let us know what you think.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNw52Xh4Rwo

And finally, there won’t be any updates or tutorials the next couple of weeks as we’ll be out of town, but we’ll get back on it once we return. Happy November!

Paint/Drawing Added:
  • Pixelated paint style drawing with real time network syncing has been added.
  • 'F2' will change your pointer into paint mode where you can draw with 'Left Click'.
  • The color of your paint is the same as your hand.
  • 'F3' will change your pointer into eraser mode which can be used to erase drawings.
  • To draw a straight line hold alt then click, it will draw a line like connect the dots (also works with eraser).
  • Can clear all drawings by selecting or hovering over the Eraser tool then clicking the trash can that appears.
  • Drawings will be saved in your Mods/Saves.
  • Drawing uses a pixel size of 0.5 units, so you can use the grid to assists with drawing.
  • Painting can disabled for clients in the hosts options.

UI for easy swapping between pointer modes:
  • New UI tool added on the left side of the screen where you can swap between Hand, Paint, Eraser, Hidden, and Line modes.
  • The mode you are currently in will be highlighted and unavailable options will be greyed out.
  • When mousing over one of the icons the hotkey will be displayed for that mode.
  • 'F1' - 'F5' will swap between the different modes, but you can still use the old hold hotkey system.

Player Name Improvements:
  • Increased name character limit from 12 to 32.
  • Names on table now resize to fit the length of the player's name.
  • Fixed Green and Blue names being reversed on the Rectangle and Large Custom Table.
  • Fixed name clipping on the octagon and hexagon table for tall character languages (Chinese, Japanese, etc.).

Card Improvements:
  • Made it easier to add cards to a deck by raising the distance tolerance.
  • Greatly reduced the physics insanity when combining cards together.
  • When creating a deck the bottom card takes precedent and determines the deck properties, instead of averaging both cards.

General Improvements:
  • Clicking on the clock will pause or start whatever the clock was doing, and hold grab will move it around just like a stack.
  • Added “ /testconnection ” chat command which will test your network for issues either hosted or connecting to servers.
  • Automatically detects country when hosting a server (no longer manual and more accurate than region).
  • Improved camera collision making it harder to clip your camera through the table.
  • Notepad now uses the same font as the rest of the game instead of the handwritten font for easier readability.
  • Highlighting is now case sensitive depending on the mode the pointer is currently (ex. Objects will no longer highlight when in Hidden Mode, bug hidden areas will).
  • Raised default video quality settings for the game from "Very Low" to "Medium".
  • Better UI scaling at lower resolution (<800 horizontal resolution), so the UI isn't so large.
  • Added the copy/paste sound to spawning from the chest.
  • Host options are now synced properly with promoted players.
  • When scrolling through chat it will no longer auto hide.

Fixed:
  • Fixed bug with friends tab not showing games that friends were connected to but not hosting.
  • Fixed black line artifacts on GUI elements, especially noticeable when playing on lower settings.
  • Fixed scaling issues with poker chips (colliders wrong, spacing messed up, etc).
  • Fixed highlighting issue with poker chips only highlighting one of the chips.
  • Minor optimization for poker chip stacks.

The best $15 I've ever spent that didn't involve food.

You can play Cards Against Humanity, a shocking number of board games, and even Yu-Gi-Oh. The foundation has so much potential, it's truly a joy to discover the depth and possibilities in playing this.

I really like the concept of the game but since I have no friends who own it, I don't have a whole lot to do. Most multiplayer servers are password protected.
But I love the game and think it'd be absolutely hilarious to play with a group of friends.

I love board games. There, I’ve said it. Unfortunately, I got my hopes up a bit too high, because it is not what I was expecting at all.

Frankly, I don’t know what I was actually expecting. It could have been an organizer for your roleplaying campaigns. Or even a way to pretend being a guest on Wil Wheaton’s popular board game webseries on the Geek & Sundry YouTube channel for all I knew. But regardless, it is a tool that allows you to play popular classic games in a total sandbox environment.

For a lot of gamers, this might not sound immediately appealing. In order for a game to be a game, it has got to have rules. Otherwise, you won’t know who has won or lost, or even when to call another player a low-down dirty rotten cheater. Without rules, we descend into chaos. But this can be a good thing once in a while.

When you start Tabletop Simulator, you are given the option of several types of virtual tables, as well as the boards and pieces of many classic games such as Chess, Checkers, Go, “Chinese” Checkers and Backgammon. There are also card games and other options like an RPG table (more on this one later). There is a quick little tutorial on how to pick up a piece, rotate it, pick up multiple pieces, or randomize things like dice and card decks. Once you have done these thing a few times it becomes like second nature.

If you put a checker down on a checkerboard, or a stone on a Go board, the program will auto-correct it to the nearest square or intersection as appropriate. But that is as far as it goes to police anything you do. If you want to move your rook diagonally or put a checker on a red square, that is your prerogative. Go right ahead – Tabletop Simulator won’t stop you.

You can play any of these games in single player mode, or you can connect to other players by finding them on Steam or hosting your own table.

One interesting aspect of this program is its potential use as a role-playing game aid. The table for this is rather large, and you can even upload your own background for the pieces to sit upon. Unfortunately, the animations of all the available monster miniatures might use up more resources than you might expect a board game simulator to need. Also, constructing the layout takes some practice and is time-consuming even then. Just to construct a couple 4-square by 4-square rooms and a connecting hallway took upwards of 30 minutes, which is about 30 times as long as it took me to do the same thing with pen-and-paper. But, if you want to spend the time and effort, you can make some decently visual dungeons.

What truly sets Tabletop Simulator from any other board game program is, not only is it a complete sandbox when playing, you are free to add any pieces to any of them. Every scenario you load is like a developer’s kit for creating new games. If you want to put some marbles in a chess game, you can go right ahead. Most of the time this won’t lead to much more than a big mess, but you never know – you could invent the next “Double Cranko.”

If you do invent something fun, you can upload it to Tabletop Simulator’s area of the Steam Workshop. While you’re there you can also see what other people have done with this program. There are component sets for popular eurogames like Carcassone and St. Petersburg. People have even invented new ones like Portal Chess and a Walking Dead trivia game. Be sure to check them out.

There are a gazillion sites out there that will let you play chess or checkers according to the rules. Some might even be a decent opponent. But, if you are looking for a place to experiment with those games or maybe even make a few of your own, the you should give Tabletop Simulator a whirl.

7/10, Recommended

This games a definite must have imo. Play pretty much any board game you can think of, with anyone around the world! There isn' t really any limits. There's loads of games available in the steam workshop for you to download, or you could just create a game to play. The developers are regularly updating it for the better, and if you lose... you can just throw the pieces around or flip the table :D

Tabletop Simulator is a game where players can host various games, old and new, based off content from the Steam Workshop. A host will have the ability to invite up to 8 players depending on the game. The host and players controls a hand cursor that can be used to interact with game pieces.

As host you have the ability to duplicate, spawn, and deal game pieces out to players. Cards and pieces can be hidden in front of the player for privacy when developing strategy.

The games contains no music, cinematics, or storyline. Exactly what you would expect from a simulation game. I do enjoy the amount of content that is released on the Steam Workshop for this game. However the controls can take some getting the hang of, even after viewing the tutorial. As well as issue getting pickup groups going with random players.

I believe Tabletop Simulator is a must for any board gaming enthusiast. A great addition to any gaming clan or guild's game night

I would recommend this game.

There's only one way to say it: This game changed my life!
I'm overreacting, of course, but that's true.
There's no much to say about this, this is not "just a videogame" this is a way to play whatever you want with someone else.
Tabletop Simulator gave me a way to play A LOT of beautiful boardgames online, in a way that is just perfect and so, so close to the real thing, and this is why i have to say "thank you" to the developers (and to the wonderful community that plays the game and create the mods) and i want to say to the other people: if you like boardgames buy this, Tabletop Simulator is not simply "the best", it is the only one that offers you ALL THIS.

This game is bloody brilliant!

Ever wanted to play tabletop games with your friends, but never managed because they live far? This game solves jsut that kind of problem!

At the moment i write this review, the game still has some bugs, but it's definitely playable.
There's a vast selection of games to load into this physics based simulation and hopefully more will be added soon.

Really great game, well worth the money if you have a bunch of friends that are disposed to buy a game that might look a bit overpriced at first but that gives you a huge ammount of hours of fun.

Tabletop Simulator seems to be one of those games in which you play classic board games from the comfort of your own PC, saving the trouble of getting the real thing out of the box, and fussing over all the extras in the box, and deciding who gets to be the motorcar, the usual sort of thing. But Tabletop Simulator does more than that which makes it more appealing.

You could play chess with a friend for example. You move a piece, he moves, you take is knight, he takes your queen, then you throw a rook at his king. Literally. And your friend, so enfused with rage of you being a cheating conniving jerk, flips the table in anger, scattering the pieces to oblivion. Then you try a new game. Ludo perhaps. Adding the necessary parts; marbles, dice, mahjong tiles, RPG Dragon...

This is one of those games which may look serious, but seen from a different perspective and you have something that can be a great laugh for everyone. All the more, you can make your own games and put them directly into TS for everyone to try out. Which, to paraphrase NerdCubed, makes it an ideal platform for board game makers to test out their new games before they make physical copies. There is a lot that can be done, it's quite astonishing.

There is online multiplayer so you can play with friends across the web. Wouldn't mind seeing local hot-seat multiplayer in a future update, if it hasn't already been included.

If you haven't bought this game, I highly recommend you do. It is great entertainment for friends and families alike.

The idea behind this game is pretty fantastic. You can scan in your favorite family game board, upload models of the pieces on the workshop, and it will be completely playable. With the sandbox environment, anything you can do with your tabletop at home, you can potentially do here.

Unfortunately, most of the games on the server list are locked, and the few that are open are not very well coordinated.

I recommend this game as something to play with friends who also own it, but not as something that can be easily jump into without them.

I've also had problems with the Linux version crashing when selecting from a menu consensually, but the game is early access after all.
