Cosa dicono gli sviluppatori:

Perché l'accesso è anticipato?

“We’re releasing in Early Access because our initial goal was to release in April (with a lot less features that you are seeing now). But due to the overwhelming response and support from our Kickstarter backers and reaching over 1200% of our goal, we wanted to add a lot more content and features so we can bring you the best game possible! We’re still releasing in April, just in Early Access instead and with a lot more features implemented than we initially planned, and with a lot more still to come. Hop on for the ride!”

Per quanto tempo questo gioco rimarrà in accesso anticipato?

“We will be working on the game until both us and the community feels confident in the feature set presented, but that won't be the end of the game's development either! We have released nearly a patch a week since our Kickstarter ended, so we are fully dedicated to the success of the game.”

Quali saranno le differenze fra la versione completa e quella ad accesso anticipato?

“Unlocked Stretch Goals:
3 Additional Game Modes [2 MORE GAMES HAVE BEEN ADDED!]
Mod Support (3D Models) [THIS HAS BEEN ADDED!]
RPG Kit (30 animated figurines, Dungeon Tileset, Character Sheets) [MOST OF THIS HAS BEEN ADDED!]
Steam Workshop Support [THIS HAS BEEN ADDED!]
CastAR Support
Oculus Rift Support
Customizable Figurines
Space Theme
and tons more!”

Qual è lo stato attuale della versione in accesso anticipato?

“Tabletop Simulator has all the fundamental features of the game ready for you to play. With over 15 games to choose from and the sandbox nature of the game, you are set to play hundreds of different games. In addition, you can create your own mods and upload them directly to Steam Workshop. The only limitation is of your imagination.

Tons of new content is still to come and your support will help make the game grow even more. Different features are subject to change and your feedback will help shape the direction we take the game for the better!”

Il prezzo del gioco varierà durante e dopo l'accesso anticipato?

“The price will increase when the game leaves early access so be sure to pick it up to save some dosh!”

Come pensate di coinvolgere la Comunità durante il processo di sviluppo?

“We love our community and are proud that we take our community seriously! With the updates almost every week since our Kickstarter ended, we've taken a lot of the suggestions and feedback they have given us and implemented them into the game! So it's very important to give us your feedback, so we can make Tabletop Simulator the best it can be!”

Update v3.0 Fog of War, Kickstarter Rewards, Server Browser Overhaul

We’d like to take this time to thank all our backers who believed in us more than 6 months ago! All keys for the last of the Kickstarter rewards have been sent out to our backers and the credits in game have been updated.

We have an awesome update this week as we recreated the server browser to match the UI, as well as overhauled it for ease of use. In addition, we now have our version of Fog of War (hidden areas) added to the game. This has been a requested feature for quite some time and we’re glad to get it implemented for you al!

We created another new feature request thread on our sub-reddit for future updates, so please be sure to post what feature you would like next and upvote your favorites (one feature request per post please).

Major Features:
  • Hidden Areas/Fog of War
  • Kickstarter Pointer & Gold Tier Rewards
  • Server Browser Overhaul
  • Easy LAN Connecting
  • Improved Mod Loading
  • BB Code in Notepad
  • ...and tons of other improvements and fixes

Hidden Area/Fog of War Added:
  • Hidden areas serve the purpose of being able to hide any object from other players.
  • Hold 'H' and 'left click' to drag out the box area with your mouse.
  • The color of the fog corresponds to who can see inside the area.
  • Right click on the fog to change its color, holding 'H' will make the fog be first choice.
  • The grey color functions as a hidden area that no one can see inside.
  • Board objects will not be hidden like other objects.
  • Fog areas will be saved into the game's state.
  • Hold 'H' then 'left click' on the fog box to delete it.
  • While holding 'H' a mini fog box will be at the end of your pointer let you know.
  • Hosts can disable clients from being able to create or edit Hidden Areas in the host options.

Kickstarter Rewards:
  • Robot pointer has been added for our Kickstarter pointer reward tier.
  • Gold material has been added for our Gold Member reward tier (Chess, Dice, and Dominoes).
  • Only the Host may change the material of an object to gold if they are Gold Member reward tier.
  • Kickstarter credits list is now working for all of our backers inside the game.

Server Browser Overhaul:
  • Server browser has been remade with the new UI system with many more features.
  • Servers can now be sorted by clicking one of the column headers (server name, host, number players, etc).
  • LAN tab has been added making it very easy to connect to servers on local network.
  • Friends tab will show servers that your friends are hosting or connected to.
  • Search now works on all server data (can search "1/2" for players, "NA" for region, etc).
  • Right click on a server to block/ban the host (This will stop their servers from showing up and joining your games).

Mod Loading Improvements:
  • Fixed timeout issues with loading large mods querying the server too fast causing many errors.
  • Loading multiples of the same object will incur no performance penalties due to duplicate assets.
  • Improved load times when loading multiple of the same object (down to the same time as loading one unique object).

Highlighting Improvements:
  • When holding an object in a box area (hand or fog of war) it will highlight.
  • Highlight colors now match the color you are playing as instead of default white and yellow.
  • CTRL + Left Click selection/highlight now works on locked objects.
  • Box selection is now much more accurate and more than half the object must be in the box to be selected.

General Improvements:
  • Cards now fly together forming the deck when stopping a search.
  • Dice and coins will now only spin when dropped if moving with enough velocity.
  • Tooltips now work on objects being held by other people.
  • UI radio buttons now looks different than checkboxes.
  • Opening up the social media links will now open them in your Steam overlay instead of browser.
  • Clicking on the patch message on the bottom of the main menu will bring you to the latest patch notes.
  • When overriding a save it will automatically fill in the previous name of the save.
  • Sound has been added for copy pasting objects to notify other players, now that you can hide objects.
  • Controller input is now default disabled due to some people having issues with spinning camera/pointers (can still be enabled in the settings).
  • Reduced the sensitivity of Deck searching with a bigger deadzone where cards do not spin.
  • You can now use the up and down arrows to cycle through previous chat messages you have sent.
  • Custom dice automatically no longer have grid snapping enabled.
  • Improved the Host Options menu password and game mode input boxes to be more clear.
  • Toned down the lighting brightness of the Field background.
  • Changed the number cards input in the Custom Deck to be a slider.
  • You can now use BB Code in Notepad to enhance your text.

Fixes:
  • Fixed enter key resubmitting last mouse actions.
  • Fixed controller A button multi-select action bug.
  • Fixed cards twitching in hand when gravity is higher than default.
  • Fixed clients being able to stop search even if contextual menu was disabled.
  • Fixed bug with selected object being stuck highlighted if you changed colors.
  • Fixed crazy box selection shape when rotating the camera during selecting.
  • Fixed the control scheme not opening up when using the Escape menu.
  • Fixed server browser bug where lock on the server did not properly disappear when removed.
  • Fixed issues when searching saves and workshop items with entries appearing offscreen.
  • Fixed red spacer falling through table over and over again when rewinding a deck search.

Update v2.9 - Deck Searching, Camera Overhaul, & Host Improvements.

Happy October! We’ve got some exciting stuff for you this week, with the brand new (and much requested feature), deck searching! Thanks everyone for posting your feature suggestions, as well as upvoting for your favorites in our /r/tabletopsimulator thread. There’s still more to come! Public games have also been improved with more options for the host.

Deck searching:
  • Right clicking on a deck then choosing search will create a wheel of cards in the order of the deck.
  • Search can be used to find a card, rearrange, remove, or add to a deck easily.
  • Moving your mouse to the left or right of the wheel will spin it, keeping 8 cards visible at a time.
  • If you want to search the deck privately, bring the deck into your hand before you start the search.
  • The red box shows the division between the top and bottom card.

Host Improvements:
  • Host can now change the color of a player or move them to spectator.
  • Host can now disable color selection for players and manually assign colors.
  • Host can also disable players from editing the notepad.
  • Cleaned up 'Host Options' menu to make each option more clear.

Camera Overhaul:
  • Holding 'ALT' no longer swaps between camera modes (use 'P' to toggle between).
  • Chat messages added when swapping between camera modes.
  • 'WASD' now serves as the pan camera for both modes, instead of duplicating 'Right mouse Button'.
  • 'Arrows keys' now rotates the camera just like 'Right mouse Button'.

3rd Person Camera (Default):
  • Default camera now controls almost identically to a MMO camera.
  • 'WASD' pans the focus point and 'Right Mouse Button' orbits the camera around that point.

1st Person Camera:
  • Controls just like a spectator free cam in a FPS style game.
  • 'WASD' moves your location and 'Right Mouse Button' rotates the view.
  • 'Space Bar' makes the camera rise and 'CTRL' makes the camera lower (slowed down).

Hover Tooltip:
  • Now using new UI with dynamic fonts with black outline.
  • Hides properly when the UI is hidden with 'f12'.

General Improvements:
  • Alt zoom now works when rotating the camera with 'Right Mouse'.
  • Object highlighting will be a lot less pixelated at higher video settings (MSAA now works on highlighting).
  • Chat no longer blocks picking up objects through it.
  • When dealing out the entire deck to multiple people, one card will no longer stay on the table.
  • Keyboard menu layout revamped in new UI similar to the controller (text should be much more readable).

Fixes:
  • Fixed issue causing server browser to break if you searched for friends.
  • Fixed issue with reseting cards that are layered.
  • Fixed cleaning up promoted players when they are disconnected.
  • Fixed flipping wider cards by hovering over them made them hit the table.

To clarify, this is an engine to play board games. You can play almost any game you can think of. There have been weekly or at least monthly updates, and they keep adding more features the community requests. I had one issue with the workshop not syncing, and the devs actually worked with Valve to get the issue resolved quickly.

The only problem for new players, is finding games to join. You need to look for groups that host TTS games. An easy one is Tabletop Simulator Club (look for that group in Steam Groups).

Once you play a few games you will realize how great this engine/sandbox is, and if you find a few people to play online with, you will have hours of entertainment.

Last comment, I had to chance to meet the developers at PAX Prime, and they both seemed extremely nice. Can't see where they take TTS next, or their next project.

As is, it is well worth the asking price if you have friends willing to join with you. If you are someone that loves the generic chess, checkers, backgammon, chinese checkers, etc. or if you absolutely love card games such as poker, solitare, or even go fish, this title delivers impressively. It is NOT a single player game, but you could (as mentioned) play solitare with the cards given to you.

The game doesn't hold your hand. It gives you some luxory controls, but it otherwise wont tell you what you can and cannot do. As the video preview shows off, this garuntees chaos if you allow it to happen. This is more of a good thing -I think- than a bad thing, but it does cause somewhat frustrating experiences in the online play. Because it doesn't hold your hand, people might unintentially break the rules in various games or make some up of their own. This is a good thing for people in various cultures with different rules, not to mention those that want to play house rules (such as not having to jump in checkers, something you technically don't have to do if you are okay removing the piece, but programs force you to typically anyways). This is bad because complete anarchy is expected, it really is a simulator and, like real life, some disagreements are expected.

In my opinion, this game's strongest advantage over anything else on Steam that demands much more money for such less content, such as any mediocre chess game on Steam, is the freedom this game gives you. Not just the ability to do virtually anything within reason like the first paragraph poked at a bit, but the ability to create custom games and downloading other's custom games. This, of course, inevitably means about 90% of the time COPYRIGHTED content. This is a huge blow over the board game and card game industry and I ♥♥♥♥ing love it.

Just like the whole "people don't want to buy music on the internet" and then the same ♥♥♥♥♥s began wondering why music piracy began to rise, you can expect this tabletop simulator to have a significant role for a similar outcome in regards to board games and card games. We asked for a good *insert trading card game* simulator and we got ignored, maybe humored with half ♥♥♥♥♥ games instead, but now we have an alternative. Some copyright claims have been made, particularly Munchkin, this was to be expected but some are yet the wiser and either ignore this game or don't even realize it exists like (it seems) a good part of the gaming community... particularly the people willing to pay $50 for a chess simulator.

Regardless, I wont ramble on about that nonsense that doesn't matter to us, the consumers (at least not until our "freedoms" start get taken away by lawyers that are smarter, yat greedier, than their own good). No, I will discuss further how custom work *kinda* works, as someone who puts in a heavy load of *cough*copyrighted material*cough*. It is very easy! For cards, you just make a huge picture and put all the cards on it, up to 69 specifically at the moment, and the game cuts it up into pieces. The downside? The quality will be ♥♥♥♥ unless it is a very big picture. To make matters worse, the game currently requires you to upload said giant image to a random website for everyone to download it from. This is bad, because there isn't exactly a variety of file hosts to use that would allow such a huge file. I currently use dropbox, but it gave me problems recently that I will forgive because I have nobody else to go through, but I will never forget. With that said, it would be nice if Tabletop Simulator uses an alernative last resort file sharing method, have it between the players.

Why wouldn't the game do this from the start? Well, there is the possibility of saving file types with specific names and the game will, for now on, load that specific file instead of the original. If you had it so the game will send the files the players have, this could result in exploits that involve offensive or otherwise illegal materials most of us don't want to see. So, I agree not to have this as a primary form of getting files, but it would be nice to be able to download from the host or whoever upload the item and maybe keep track of the steam id that gave that specific file to you, that way reporting is an option. Hopefully the TTS devs will consider this as a solution to the problem, assuming this problem was the reason they avoided the option of peer to peer file transfer.

The game offers so much, but like any early access games, bugs are expected. They fixed quite a few recently, but some still exist. Despite all of them, the game is well worth it. However, I cannot stress it enough that you plan to do this with friends, for randoms only play a handful of games.

tl;dr:

Pros:
Freedom. For something that is just on a single table, it feels as big as a sanbox (I'm exaggerating, but for what's worth, you have building blocks, something you'd see sometimes in a real life sandbox)
Variety. You get a lot for what you paid for. Try to look up chess games on Steam.
Customization. You can make your own games or copy and paste something else... probably copyrighted most likely. Because of this, you can play virtually anything you dreamed of having in your childhood for the price that is TTS.
Online. You can play board games with loved ones from far away, or with near by friends that don't want to spend hundreds on trading cards or RPG materials.
There is some anti griefing options in place, but maybe we could use more.

Cons:
There isn't a whole lot of people in the community, a lot of them are griefers.
Players currently cannot just pull card decks out of workshop items without loading it, something that is addressed for other items.
Players, except the host, cannot load custom deck items, something that may be addressed in the future.
Host is unable to change server settings once the game server is made. Such as server name, player count, etc. This will probably also be addressed in the future.
Lack of file transfering between players with custom items. Of course, this is probably to prevent porn to be traded around rather than monopoly board images by "mistake," but this is something the devs should look into.

Overall, this game is splended. We have building blocks, but could someone for the love of god add in some plastic army men?

This isn't the kinda game you wait for a sale for, this is the kinda game you buy with only one regret: not buying it sooner.
9/10 seems fair, but it will be different for everyone. I ♥♥♥♥ing love Monopoly, Yugioh, Coupe, Tsuro, Chess, Poker, etc. so I make the most of this game. For those that are not so into all of that, maybe you wont make the most of it like I do. Regardless, buy it. Seriously... buy it.

I think everyone on steam should get this game.

It is increadibly flexible and can be used to invent new games or play old ones.
its multiplayer works well and it is quite fun.

But its a good addition to your library as its the equivalent of hundreds of boardgames.
Currently it is in need of a few improvements for the playing of things like Dungeons and dragons or other freeform RPG. but is exelent for many different kinds of board and card games.
Check out the workshop for a look at some of the games available.

A fantastic way to play board and card games online! The unlimited ways you can create mods currently extends as far as emulating real-life board games, but sooner or later it'll be interesting to see if some new games are created with this engine, which is very possible. In any case, grab a few friends, get a server sorted, play some UNO, Cards Against Humanity, Munchkin, Fluxx, Tsuro, Lords of Waterdeep, or something much simpler like chess and anything with playing cards. Couldn't recommend this enough for playing board games when it's not possible to do so in personal company.

This review is specifically aimed towards anyone looking to play D&D with tabletop simulator. I will also compare it to Roll20.net, a web based system for playing tabletop games.

EASY OF USE/HOW INTUITIVE IS THE SYSTEM?

Roll20 - If you have a general knowledge of how to control most interfaces related to games, you will likely be able to accomplish just about anything after watching a brief (15 minutes or less) YouTube video about the interface.

T.S. - You will choose certain options when you may have wanted something else (Choosing "Game" instead of "Table"), but you will shake off the habit pretty quickly. I did not require a tutorial in anyway to use the system and just dove right in.

FEATURES

I will say the only feature Roll20 has that you would want in TS is Fog of War, the ability to hide areas and tiles on the table from players. With TS, I have to keep the items off the board until I am ready to play them as to leave some element of surprise for my players.

COST

Roll20 choose not to compete in this area. Where TS has the steam workshop with countless tables and models at no cost, Roll20 will charge you$5 - $9 for a 20-40 item set that not only typically looks poorly done, but you also won't like more than 2 models (https://marketplace.roll20.net/). Tabletop Simulator is still in early access and offers a huge catalogue of fantastic, and free downloads.

CONCLUSION

Are you worried about leaving Roll20? Are you worried about bringing your campaign online? Don't be. I'd go as far as to suggest you buy a 4-Pack, give them to your friends, and start rolling. I had my first game of Pathfinder a few nights ago and really enjoyed the experience.

Tabletop Simulator is a great way to humiliate and embarass your friends at games such as Scrabble, Checkers and that weird game with the like black n white minstrils.
However, it sorely lacks character development and fails to represent other shades that reside within the world on an equal slate- I was stunned by the utter racism within the 'chess' game, in that the so called, 'White Master Race' side had the first turn; obviously an example of the desire to oppress and expand, inherent to the White Man.

Furthermore, this videogame is another example of that which has been a hot topic as of late: Under representation.
Yes, thats right, The Sea is hardly seen throughout all of the different game modes (Battleship doesnt count as it is focused on the Ships, and The Sea is merely a backdrop- typical shipriarchal behaviour). As an advocate for The Sea, I would like to see more games involving The Sea, and for the developers of this, nigh blasphemous, virtual experience, to be sacrificed to the great God, Neptune.

Only then will I stop writing unfunny paragraphs on an internet-based digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer, and social networking platform developed by Valve Corporation.

I hate Scrabble, its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, random letters, ♥♥♥♥ it.

10/10, worth paying £10 to constantly flip a virtual table, christ.

This simulator is great not only for fun and playing with friends, but also for those who are designing boardgames and want to test gameplay scenarios without the need of printing cards, making components, finding physically available people and places. And it is not that hard to learn how to put your game inside the sim.

Also, table flipping is THE game-changing mechanic of the century.

"Finally, a game where I can reenact my childhood."

But seriously, the game is as the developers describe. You can play any game that you play on a table. Granted, only a handful are in the game at the moment, but you can download many games on the workshop to play while you wait for someone to recreate Warhammer-esque pieces so you can finally play it online with friends and flip the table when you find out your FRIENDS ARE HERETICS!

Amazing platform for playing, downloading, and designing social games in an atmosphere where rules are enforced by the players, not imposed by the program itself. Very modable and extremely versatile in what you can do with it. It has active developers who update the platform with new features and bug fixes on a weekly basis.

If you are looking for a general board/card gaming sandbox, this is for you.

If you are expecting a gaming system where everything is automated, this may not be for you.

Tabletop Sim is a fantastic addition to the simulator genre. I wouldn't really class it as a simulator though. It's better than that- much more, I can play almost any card and board game(and tons which don't even exist... yet thanks to the creative tools within) digitally with my friends and family anywhere in the world. I move a lot, so having this ability is extremely important and is why Tabletop Simulator gets a strong recommendation from me.

+ Creativity (Make almost any game that you would play on a tabletop, and even invent your own).
+ Replayability (With the large variety of games and mods available you will find it hard to run out of things to do.
+ Utility (Play with anyone and just about anywhere- that an internet connection is available)

- Not free (Well worth the asking price though!)

Tabletop simulator is an awesome platform for playing board- or cardgames with your friends. It's not for playing with random people online but rather for playing with friends or family. It's easy to use and with plenty of workshop content readily available, and if you are a little creative it is easy to create custom games or even invent your very own.

The only thing that it needs is ingame customizable time keeping, like a one-click x-minute timer and I'd be able to create any game I want in it.

Now if only you could buy a bundle when you already own the game, then I'd be buying the crap out of this game to gift to all my friends. Steam, PLEASE make this possible...

Do you like playing board games, but don't have friends that live anywhere near you? Well then you should buy Tabletop Simulator. It maybe in Early Access, but it's already to the point you can effectively play anything you want with it. All that is really left for them to do is polish it up a little bit and add in some nifty extra features that they could have probably gotten away with not including, but it's awesome that they're willing to work on :)
