Better late than never! Ultionus gets a set of Steam trading cards.

Hey guys and gals!
Back when I first released Ultionus on Steam, I've been virtually platform-illiterate, and couldn't see much point in having Steam trading cards, as they seemed like a lot of extra work.
But things change, and we all grow wiser, and so, as of today I'm adding a set of Steam trading cards to the game.
Have fun with those!ːbalzacːːufloppyːːumelonːːserenasːːspassː

“The levels and characters are all fun to look at, and the whole world seems lush and alive.”
3.8/5 – Mash Those Buttons

“...the crass humor may not appeal to everyone, the sharp design and challenge that’s found in Ultionus will strike some kind of chord with anyone who initially play it and nostalgia withstanding.”
4/5 – Press Pause Radio

Galactic hero Serena S has been trolled on Spacebook. This is obviously a cause to embark on an epic quest to punish the troll in question, who just happens to be The Space Prince. Guide Serena through 7 stages of shmup action, jumping, shooting, and yet decidedly more jumping and shooting to her ultimate goal of total testicular annihilation of her foe. Ultionus is a love-letter to the home computer arcade games of the late 80s and early 90s, particularly Halloween Harry, Astro Marine Corps, Duke Nukem 2 and especially Phantis/Game Over II. The game features tons of lovingly crafted pixel art, and a rockin' chiptune soundtrack by the legendary Jake 'Virt' Kaufman.

Great pixel art, great music, challenging gameplay, and you get to fight flowers.

Why does this game have a "Mixed" rating again?

From initial confustion to really pleasant surprise, I enjoyed this game once I figured out and accepted it for what it is. This feels like a game developed by one person or a small team that put a LOT of heart into it's creation.

Important Point
There is nothing wrong/broken with the Controls, Difficulty & Length of this game.

The controls are restrictive by design and require mastery. My first attempt at was at normal difficulty. I got wrecked, but learned a little more each time.

By the time I decided to switch to easy I'd adjusted to the controls enough to reach the first Boss with few to no hits. Again, wrecked. Felt like it was impossible to react in time... and then I remembered that this games isn't about immediate reaction. It's about pattern recognition and the many deaths required to acquire those patterns, which aren't that complicated but occasionally require pixel precision.

A single playthrough of this game doesn't take very long (less than 2 hours) and that was great. That said, this game wasn't meant to be played once. It's meant to be replayed, explored, mastered and appreciated, which I plan to do.

Also, I don't think the Revenge was that petty. Respect.

Ultionus: A Tale of Petty Revenge is a short sweet platformer game that everyone is gonna enjoy (well at least I hope so)

We play as Serena a space hero who is trolled by a galactic prince one day and it's up to you to go get some sweet revenge.

The game is split across 7 areas which you have to go through and fight a boss at the end of each one. Each area is alright for the most part, but I'll cover it a bit more later.

The game has some truly gorgeous pixel art and it's one of my favorite looking games to date. It brings me back to the days of playing the classic games I used to own. Everything looks top notch and if you like pixel art style you won't be dissapointed.

The soundtrack is also great and the end credits song is awesome as well. Whoever made that soundtrack deserves a pat on the back.

The game is also quite tought, but never unfair and that's what I truly liked about it. So if you don't like hand holding don't worry this game won't dissapoint you, but for those who want to experience this game without failing, the game also has a easy mode, which reduces the difficulty, but not by much.

The game also has a few things I didn't like about it.

First of all the controls are really slippery. Sometimes it's hard to makes jumps and shooting can be tricky once you are swarmed through every direction possible.

The game also locks away weapon upgrades to secrets. So if you miss one, the upcoming later might be harder, because you didn't get the upgrade you needed.

The game is also incredibly short. It took me 2 hours to finish, but this is just going through the story once. There is also multiple endings you can get, but there's only two of them.

Overall the game is really good and for the price you really can't go wrong.

+ Amazing Art Style
+ Great Soundtrack
+Decent Challenge
+Multiple Endings

- Too Short
- Slippery Controls

Final Rating:
7.5/10 - Good

Definitely doesn't deserve a "mixed" rating in my honest opinion. While it is a bit short, the graphics are gorgeous, the story is simple but funny, and the controls may take a while to get used to but once you get into them the game is no problem. Music is really good too with tons of catchy melodies that never feel intrusive.
Overall a great throwback game, recommend it to all fans of oldschool platformers, although don't expect the controls to be completely fluent, it has its own style.
