Last Dream "Ship Challenge" Competition

We’re pleased to announce the Last Dream “Ship Challenge” Competition. Players will be ranked on the fastest game time to acquire the Ship in Last Dream. The competition ends July 31st, 2014. Players may use either the full game or demo versions of Last Dream.

Key Details: No “Reborn” games, Normal difficulty, Saving in Designated Locations.

1st Place Rewards: $75, the Last Dream Expansion, an Expansion NPC with dynamic text, an Expansion Tombstone, and a free steam key to share with a friend.

2nd Place Rewards: $50, the Last Dream Expansion, an Expansion NPC and Tombstone.

3rd Place Rewards: $25, the Last Dream Expansion, and an Expansion NPC
4th Place Rewards: The Last Dream Expansion and an Expansion NPC.

5th Place Rewards: The Last Dream Expansion.

Official Contest Rules for the Last Dream “Ship Challenge” Competition

Participants shall submit a save file with the fastest game time acquiring the Ship prior to July 31st at 11:59 pm EDT.

“Acquiring the Ship” Definition:

Players in the full game and demo will be defined to have acquired the Ship when they have either:

1) Traded the two Elven Relics to the Relic Collector of Doria for the Ship.


2) Rescued the Ancient Hermit from the Deserted Island Cave and the King has gifted a Ship from the Royal Navy.

Once either of these two objectives has been completed, players MUST save their game via any allowable method (e.g. at a Church, via a Sleeping Bag/Tent/Cottage on the World Map, or at a Designated Portal Save in a Dungeon).

Gameplay Rules:

• Difficulty level MUST be set to “Normal”
• Saving option MUST be set to “Saving in Designated Locations”
Altered “Game Options” (e.g. difficulty, saving options, etc.) are prohibited.
• “Reborn” games are prohibited.
• Any encounter rate is allowable
• The “New Game +” feature may be utilized.
• Any party combination
• All competitors must use the Steam versions of the Last Dream demo or full game.

Competition Judges: Andrew Walker, Josh Mellon, and Mark Cope (the Creators of Last Dream) will use submitted save files to objectively determine the fastest time to acquire the ship.

Selection of a Winner: All Last Dream save files submitted prior to 11:59 EDT on July 31st to will be analyzed for fastest game time to acquire the ship. Any save files that do not meet the criteria above will be disqualified, and the remaining entries will be ordered from fastest to slowest game time to acquire the ship. The five participants with the fastest game times to acquire the ship will be awarded prizes. If multiple participants acquire the ship in the same game time (to the second), then the participant who submitted their save file first will win the tie-breaker.

Competition Prizes:

1st Place Rewards: $75, the Last Dream Expansion, an Expansion NPC with dynamic text, an Expansion Tombstone, and a free steam key to share with a friend.

2nd Place Rewards: $50, the Last Dream Expansion, an Expansion NPC and Tombstone.

Geographic Area of Competition: Residents of all countries worldwide and of all states in the U.S. are allowed to participate in this competition. This contest is void where prohibited. Contests and promotions are subject to all country, federal, state, and local laws.

Start and End Dates of Competition: The competition begins May 26th, 2014 at 12:01 EDT and ends at 11:59 EDT on July 31st. Save files received after 11:59 EDT on July 31st will not be considered.

Winners Documentation: The Prize Winners for the competition can be obtained from Last Dream Community Hub on Steam on August 3rd by 11:59 EDT.

Excluded Participants: Last Dream Creators (Andrew Walker, Josh Mellon, Mark Cope) and other White Giant RPG Studios, LLC owners (Chris Moore, David Moore) are excluded from participation in the competition, as well as anyone younger than 13 years of age.

General Release of Liability: Contest winners and participants agree to defend, indemnify, release and hold White Giant RPG Studios, LLC and the Last Dream Creators harmless against any and all claims or liability arising directly or indirectly from the prizes or participation in the contest.

Agreement to Rules: By submitting a save file to you acknowledge that you are fully aware of and agree with all the terms and conditions of this competition, per the Official Contest Rules for the Last Dream “Ship Challenge” Competition.

Extra Credits, Yogscast, and Last Dream Update #2

A thoughtful Kickstarter backer (Jeff Szudzik) kindly introduced us to the Extra Credits videogame development series. We carefully study their insightful videos and were thus shocked and thrilled when, today, their Chief Developer published a highly favorable video review! Please enjoy and click the video's "Like" button!

Simultaneously, the UK's mega-channel YOGSCAST Sjin released an entertaining overview of Last Dream. They will continue posting videos if they receive sufficient Likes; thus, please click away! :-)

Finally, a second Last Dream update has been made live. Over 20 bug fixes and improvements have been implemented based on your comments.

For those interested, here is the entire list of bugs that were fixed in this update:

1) Possible issue with the Puzzle Master puzzle count.
2) NullDark classified as both Recovery and Assist.
3) Mysterious clouds are unresponsive in "Blue and Yellow" block puzzle of the Dread Woods. Should still be active to allow for another way to reset the puzzle besides L+R.
4) Reservoir Staff incorrectly adds -25% INT state.
5) "Current game" puzzle counter isn't reset in New Game + so Puzzle Master rewards are bugged.
6) Mr. Cope's parents can become stuck and block treasure chests.
7) Experience split is not handled correctly when party members are dead.
8) Can land Airship on Riverdale and not be able to reenter.
9) New Game + bug with Daedalus where he says you've already completed the puzzle despite only having done it in a previous play through.
10) Master Fisherman's End Credits are bugged. He will talk about showing him a Leviathan based on your acquiring one, not showing it to him.
11) Moa Races End Credits are bugged. Talk about defeating the Gray Moa even though you never raced him. Possibly related to New Game +.
12) Game doesn't check if game options are altered when giving Abyss achievements.
13) Can become stuck when talking to Cid after the 3rd Tier of the Hunter's Guild if you haven't talked to Locke at all.
14) Characters can dodge Healing Herbs.
15) Blue Moa passability errors with Snow Slug area and Dvergar Secret Passage.
16) Terran Treasure Hunter achievements are not working correctly in update.
17) Tiling issue with the stairs when going to the Asgard Resistance Hideout.
18) New Game + loads very slowly on some Windows 8 computers.
19) Black Mage portrait changes at some point in the game.
20) Death animation sounds for bosses still play at full volume when muted.

Other improvements:

1) Changed how screen resolution is adjusted. Now use F5 and F6 to switch between windowed mode and full screen mode and the windowed mode resolution, respectively.
2) Z (mapped to D by default) will now act as a Fast Forward in-game.
3) Allow direct opening of the Map menu when on the World Map by holding cancel button (mapped to X by default).

A great example of a JRPG. If you enjoy the genre, i would highly suggest this game.

It has a good system for classes, with a lot of diversity that can match anyone's gaming style. The combat system is very well made, especially for an RPG. The storyline is interesting and keeps you involved in the game, even with its sandbox like envrionment. I would buy this game, especially if it was on sale. It's worth the price it's at.

This gane is amazing. If you grew up playing the old Final Fantasy games you will love this game. Great skill tree, and leveling tree. Lots of items. The story is pretty good, the text is a little boring to read some times, but the story is over all good. The sound track for this game is kick ♥♥♥.

Very great game so many hours to use up in it and over 236 achivements the game reminds me of many elements from the original Final Fantasy such as creating everyone in your party and then farming gold for equipment and skills would play several playthroughs of this game many times cause i love the style of the game if you like old school classic JRPGS give this a try now

This game is more amazing than you can possibly imagine while looking at the $4 price tag and the Final Fantasy 1 graphics. The game description lists its selling points well enough, but what really hooked me was being able to play on the highest difficulty and chase after very difficult or impossible achievements while never having played the game before. I loved starting off the game and getting my ♥♥♥ handed to me in the newbie dungeon against 3 slimes, then trying to figure out exactly which kind of improvement on the 10 stats on which characters might help me to take on these challenges with more success. There is a great deal of randomization involved here and always a chance that your healer will get two-shotted in the next round. Will this break you, or will your tank be able to last through the fight? Can you reach the dungeon exit with your three dead and one guy with 10% hp left or will you be seeing the Game Over screen? Anything might happen in this game, and that is why I love it.

If ever you loved old JRPGs, this game will make your year. Last Dream is a tribute to classic gaming with an original story, written with humour any FF or Chrono vet will enjoy. You can follow the plot... I guess... or you can sink hours into exploring every corner, hunting for the Guild, crafting, running errands, fishing, or being savagely beaten in roguelike dungeon crawls. There's a Cid. There's a Cecil. There's an airship. And amazingly enough, after all that, there's still a story.

I don't know what you had planned for the next few months, but I suggest rescheduling. This game will be worth every minute, and every penny.

Autant commencer par ce qui fait mal : Last Dream essaie un peu trop de ressembler à Final Fantasy premier du nom. J'ai eu l'impréssion d'y jouer pendant les 2 premieres heures je dirai, ensuite... Bah on a toujours l'impréssion d'être dans FF quand même, mais j'arrive enfin a trouver une âme au jeu tout de même à present

Ensuite, la résolution du jeu : soit en 640x480 (ce qui est vraiment petit sur un écran 1920x1080 quand même...) soit en plein écran mais celà rend mon 2eme inutilisable, et c'est embetant

Moindre mais un peu chiant quand même : les controles, obliger de jouer avec le stick et non la croix d'une manette, et les touches L et R sont sur Start et Select. Mais bon c'est pas super génant non plus ça. J'ai pas essayer au clavier en revanche.

Maintenant, les points positifs, car mon but n'est absolument pas de foutre le jeu en l'air. Déjà pouvoir choisir sont équipe de départ je trouve ça bien, ca permet de faire des truc àlakon du genre 4 mage noir ou ce genre d'équipe exotique

Pour ceux qui ne sont pas super famillier avec l'anglais, bah c'est une bonne occasion d'apprendre car ce n'est pas de l'anglais ce qui a de plus compliqué tout en étant de qualité. Au pire si vous en avez rien a fiche de l'histoire, vous n'aurez qu'à prendre un peu le temps de lire un ou deux dialogue sur les PNJ pour savoir ou aller, bien que vous risquez de tourner un peu en rond si vous faites ça (mais vous pouvez passez les cutscenes)

Le systeme de level-up (ou de nivellation positive, comme vous voulez) est sympas dans le sens où vous gérez vous même les points qui seront attribuer a votre personnage. Je m'explique : a chaque monter de niveau, vos personnages recevrons des points. Ces point seront a dépenser dans un menu dédier pour augementer au choix votre vie, votre réserve de mana, votre force, votre précision, votre chance de faire un Coup Critique, etc... ce qui vous permet de jouer librement sur vos classe (il est donc possible de faire un mage blanc qui sait se battre au corps à corps). Cependant, ces point sont plus ou moins couteux selon la statistique et la classe. Par exemple, il faudra 5 point pour qu'un moine augmente de 5 sa reserve de mana, alors qu'un mage blanc n'aura besoin que de 3 point pour augmenter sa reserve de mana de 8 (sachant que les carac peuvent devenir plus couteuse en point au fur et à mesure et qu'ils peuvent donner encore plus de bonus par la suite)

La peche, parce-que pecher c'est cool! Même si j'ai jamais pecher de ma vie... Plus sérieusement, au début vous n'aurez que des poissons sans intérets, mais par la suite vous pourrez pecher des poissons au effets curatif bien supérieur aux potions et qui peuvent soigner le groupe entier au lieu d'une seule personne (sur mes 20 heures de jeu actuelles je n'ai encore jamais trouver de potions qui soignent le groupe). Cependant une intéraction aurais été la bien venue, car il sufie de choisir sa canne a peche, son appat et le jeu s'occupe du reste par un systeme aléatoire un peu frustrant quand on a pas de chance... Comme moi...

Les monstres ne lachent pas d'argent a leur mort (bien que le voleur peut changer celà), mais drop toujours à 100% des peaux, os ou tout ce genre de chose, qui peuvent soit être revendu pour vous acheter vos équipements, soit crafter de nouveau objets via un forgeron. Même si en soit l'idée de devoir chercher (et surtout trouver) des feuilles de recette pour utiliser ce systeme, celà permet de prendre une avance confortable sur la zone dans la quelle on se trouve et ainsi faciliter un peu les choses, avec notament des craft un peu exotiques parfois comme un bouclier qui renforce l'attaque de 20 point en plus de donner des stats comme les autres bouclier (ce qui est pas mal il faut l'avouer)

Le jeu permet de changer quelques paramettres, comme la difficulté, la fréquance des rencontres aléatoires et les lieux de sauvegarde. Vous en avez rien a fiche de l'histoire? Enlevez les cinématiques! Vous voulez exp? Augmentez la fréquance des combats! Vous voulez pouvoir sauvegarder n'importe où, même en plein milieu d'un donjon? Celà est possible! (surtout que y'a pas de sauvegarde rapide dans ce jeu, au cas où on doit s'en aller en plein millieu d'un donjon). Vous voulez relever des défies plus brutaux? La difficulté va de très facile à légendaire (soit 5 ou 6 niveau, je sais plus...)

Les combats sont parfois un peu répétitif dans les RPG, on entre toujours les mêmes actions et parfois c'est long de naviguer dans les menu pour entrer tout les coups spéciaux, mais Last Dream propose 5 macro que vous pouvez personaliser pour les utiliser en combat afin de rendre celà un peu moins fatiguant, ainsi il n'y a qu'à entrer la macro avec vos coups spécieux pour pouvoir la réutiliser a volonter en combat (attention aux PM tout de même, voyons!)

Je pense avoir fait le tour de la question. Je ne pense pas que Last Dream sera le meilleur RPG au quel vous n'aurez jamais jouer, ni que se sera un souvenir éternel, mais en tous cas ce sera un bon souvenir et une bonne expérience si vous voulez mon avie (et vous le voulez forcément puisque vous lisez ça!). De plus le prix n'est pas si élevé que ça, au pire pour les plus frileux attendez un petit promotion (il est à 4€ a l'heure où j'écris ces lignes).
