Hey guys!
Quick update on life. My moms treatment is continuing as planned so thanks a lot for all the emails asking how she is doing! She is fighting her best and I am hopeful. Thank you all for your kind words.

So sadly due to the poor nature of the MMF2 engine I used to craft Two Brothers there are a variety of issues on certain hardware.

I've been programming the game from the ground up with a new engine and it plays like a dream. I will be releasing this update for free (obviously) as soon as possible.

I also changed somethings in the engine to make the game better after I read some criticism aside from the glitches in the initial launch. Enemies will be much smarter, the game will have a wide screen option without stretching and some graphic updates have been made from things that always bothered me with the animations. There is no longer the Z sorting issues so no one will stand on anyone else... so that's another fix...

I'm sorry I disappeared! More updates coming soon. I'll also post a trailer that someone cut of the new version and release info next month.

The Linux and Mac versions will come along with this update. Hopefully only a few more weeks til I put this up!

For the tech minded up of you here are some details of what we did. We reprogrammed the engine from the ground up in Unity and imported the maps. So besides remaking the cut-scenes and the engine it wasn't TOO much work so it's been a very realistic task.

Two Brothers Patch/Mac/Linux Release update

I must apologize once again for the delay of both Mac/Linux version of Two Brothers!

My mother recently was diagnosed with very aggressive cancer and it has sadly put everything on hold. I am working as much as I can through all the confusion and strife but it's delayed me again. I've brought in a friend to help me out so I hope to get everything out within the next few weeks.

About the Mac/Linux/Console builds we've been polishing the game and fixing things up according to reviews and user feedback to ensure the game is awesome. Of course we'll patch the PC version to match... we're making some significant improvements so it's taking a bit longer than we had hoped, especially with my mothers illness.

I'll keep everyone up to date more frequently now too. I've finally got my head on straight and I'm ready to keep working.

Roy Guarder, inventor, scientist, and philosopher, is on an expedition to discover the origins of life. This quest has brought him to "The Cursed Lands," a stretch of land so dangerous and shrouded in mystery that it hasn't been explored in over 700 years. When Roy finds what he's looking for, he is met with a terrible fate. Roy no longer finds himself a living man. He is greeted with a world of colors he never believed could have existed! One obsession leads to another and Roy begins to walk the line of life and death - sometimes intentionally ending his own life - just so he can see this land of beauty and color again.

But something is strange: Why is Roy the only man who can cross so easily between the worlds of the living and the dead? What has given him this unique ability? How will he reconcile the existence of an afterlife he never believed could even exist?

What makes Two Brothers unique:

Two Brothers takes a long hard look at death in video games... when the player is killed in combat or triggers a deadly trap, instead of being greeted a familiar GAMEOVER screen, the player finds himself in what we call the "Afterlife Hub".
This realm of the dead is a colorful and mysterious place where the player can explore, find clues, and interact with characters who have passed on in the games story... sometimes even bringing some of them back from the dead.
When the player wants to return to gameplay, they can jump from the edge of the heavens and get back in to the action and exploration!
This mechanic is vital to the gameplay, as sometimes interacting with the dead is just as important as interacting with the living... this feature often requires the player intentionally ending their session in a game over, just to cross over to the other side.

The game looks like it has potential, but the developer also looks like he has given up on it. Its full of broken things, glitches, bugs, and constant crashes. The dev said a patch was coming multiple times, but nothing has come out for half a year.

I'm disappointed in this game, well, actually I still like the game but there are so many bugs I can't even get past the first dungeon. My friend bought me this game and I feel bad because I can't even play the game properly. I heard the developers were making a new game and I hope they fix the bugs in this game before going onto a different game.

I think the storyline is really good based on a couple of videos I have seen and watched. I wish I can play it .・゜゜・(/╭╮\)・゜゜・.

Well, I played this for a few hours and I think it's absolutely amazing, I just love it. There were a few bugs but they more added to the personality of the game than anything -for me atleast-. I did not come across any game-breaking bugs or currupt saves. I AM waiting for patches though, only because I enjoyed it so much I want to play through in the best possible shape. I mean, if they're going to improve combat/hit detection, and add more quests...I want all of that.

I LOVE the music, love the art, and the story is just ... interesting, and sometimes even subtly creepy. I'd prefer it to be in color, but atleast they use the Black and White as a plot device, which is really neat. Sometimes I even get a bit of a "Hotline Miami" vibe, just from some of the...trippy psychedelic things that happen, but maybe that's just me.

I actually never played many portable games. I'm an older gamer and most of my RPGS were NES/SNES/Genesis and this still brings back memories. Something about it gives me a real "Crysalis" vibe. "Lagoon" too. I'm sure it's closer to the Gameboy "Final Fantasy Adventure" game, but I didn't really play that.

Probably also inspired by GBA's "Sword of Mana".

Anyway, I love it. If it weren't being patched more I'd just play through it right now and enjoy every minute of it (which is rare for me nowadays, I have almost 200 games and only a few really keep me interested.)

Нет слов, одни только "М-да". Сколько плюсов в игре, столько и минусов.

Сюжет - определённо главная причина, по которой в эту игру стоит играть. Тема жизни и смерти, пропущенная через призму классического геймплейного Game Over, а тема цвета проходит через стилизацию под чёрно-белый Game Boy. Вам предстоит примерить на себя роль видного учёного и изобретателя Роя Гардера, который в одной из экспедиций теряет жену и сам расстаётся с жизнью. На том свете герой видит такие удивительные цвета, о которых в своей чёрно-белой реальности он даже и подумать не мог. Но смерть отказывает Рою в вечном покое и отправляет обратно в реальный мир. С тех пор жизнь учёного круто меняется: он забрасывает свою научную деятельность и посвящает дальнейшую жизнь осмыслению увиденного. Мир решает, что учёный лишился рассудка на почве потери жены, лишь только Биваре - брат остаётся с ним. Вместе они и будут пытаться найти новые цвета в этом мире.

Мир же упорот. Но в хорошем смысле. Поедание вырезанных сердечных мышц поверженных врагов, использование внутренностей живых животных и птиц в качестве квартир и подземелий с сокровищами, игровые глюки в качестве боссов, сумка с геройским инвентарём размерами с домик в деревне. Постоянные отсылки к классическим играм.

Саундтрек отличный. Живая музыка вкупе с ядерным чиптюном, нойзом и Бог знает чем там ещё. Уйма композиций, общая продолжительность которых немногих более четырёх часов.

Теперь о плохом. Глюки, баги, глитчи - вся банда в сборе. Игра постоянно находит причины лишний раз заглючить Вам всё. Начиная от банальных багов с коллизией, когда герои застревают в груде пикселов, заканчивая сбоями с инициализацией спрайтов в момент загрузки. Ладно бы происходили они только по праздникам. Но будьте готовы перезапускать игру каждые полчаса. Для этого разработчики привинтили автосохранение, поэтому прогресс Вы рискуете потерять только в самом плачевном случае.

Боевая система больше для галочки. Действие атаки не всегда работает хорошо, поэтому порой можно словить пару ударов ненароком. С боссами вообще всё грустно. Иногда их может заглючить, из-за чего порубить их можно одной левой, что сводит на нет смысл боссов как таковых.

Финальный вопрос: стоит ли вообще в это играть? Попытаться имеет смысл. Стилизация на любителя, чиптюн на любителя, баги выводят из себя, зато есть внятный сюжет и множество крайне приятных композиций в саундтреке.
