A fun top-down shooter thing with levels randomly generated based on your music. It is very entertaining, and the more songs you play the more weapons, difficulties and progress you unlock. This game is seriously fun, as well as rewarding you for making things difficult for yourself by giving you higher score multipliers for weaker weapon loadouts.

I'm rather enjoying this little gem my missus found earlier, it's a bit like Beat Hazard in that it's a bullet hell game whose levels are based on your own music collection. Each song can generate special items ranging from new weapons to in-level pickups like smart bombs.

It's cheap too, which is nice. And if you're anything like me and my 12,400-mp3 music folder you're not exactly going to be running out of challenges any time soon. My only issue thus far is that you can't turn the main menu's music off, but that's as minor a gripe as I've ever had with a game.

Symphony is one of the better randomly generating rhythym games. Creating its levels from your music library, it creates levels perfectly tuned to the music as if it were personally made, going in my opinion, way beyond the capabilities of Audiosurf in terms of level design. The controls with mouse and keyboard work well too, but a lack of controller support has me wanting. With an upgrade system and all for your ship, it only entices you more to play one more song. The only issue that I have with the game is the fact that you have to pay extra to access your itunes library which brings the entire price up to 10 USD. A fantastic addition to ones library if they are a music lover especially , if not, this is still a great arcade shooter well worth your time and money.

ok so this game is very good. If you like to play games that youse ur music it is great. 2nd best muic game on steam. Melody's escape is better but that game ...that game is great. This game is completly* difrent than melodys escape and is great for some high pased but less pressued action instead of hitting keys at precisly the right time. Your opononst spawn and behave according to your music and the fact that there is no pentaly to dieng is great so you can play a fun little mini game whlie ur lsiteng to your music great for when ur bored

Symphony is a game that is powered by yuor music, much like AudioSruf and Beathazard. There are some things that make Symphony stand out.

At first launch of the game, an "unknown entity" has seized control of your music, and you must liberate your library by defeating 5 bosses. Not only does this game have an arcadey feel like AudioSruf and Beathazard do, but it also incorperates a story, which I think is really cool.

When you play a round of one of your songs, you will die, however the song won't end and you'll be able to continue to the end of it (but your score will take a hit). After completing a new song you'll unlock a new weapon, and if you have enough Kudos and Insperation (earned by completing more songs), you can buy it and be able to equip it on your ship. So having a large music library is an advantage. Your ship can hold 4 weapons in any configuration you desire. You can even change the angle these weapons can fire, and the firing mode (fully automatic, semi-automatic, manually etc.), so there is a TON of varation to be experimented with.

This game supports all the formats you need (.MP3, OGG, FLAC, .WAV, and .AIFF are officially supported). Symphony will not play any song that is less than 1:30 minutes long, but there is no maximum cap.

I love AudioSruf and Beathazard, but IMO this game has a lot more going for it, and I highly recommened it.

For Linux players, this is a good working port. I play on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and it plays flawlessly. Thank you Empty Clip Studios for deciding to support Linux :D.

I didn't know what to expect with this unique little indie title. From the logo, it looked like it was going to be boring as hell and pretentious. But once I installed and got it going, I was pleasently surprised. This game takes a unique concept-scan every single music file on your hard drive (iTunes music is excluded because .AAC files aren't compatible-the only downside), and create a bullet hell game about a horde of demons invading music-your music. Sounds ludicrous enough, but what really makes this game work is that not only each "level" designed like a traditional bullet hell game, but you get to play it as your music's blasting in the background with varying difficulty depending on the song. It's a suprisingly enjoyable, over-the-top (can't believe I'm saying this) blast.

I got this game as part of a Humble Bundle a couple of months ago and I regret not playing it until now.

The game struck me like Audiosurf before I played it (I didn't look at the store page)
I was horribly mistaken.

This game has one huge thing that Audiosurf did not. Purpose.
In audiosurf, you're just collectng blocks for the sake of it. There's no real rhyme or reason as to why you are, you just are.

In this game, you fight against monsters who use your music against you, taking it away, and making you weaker. The intro struck me because the game throws you straight in front of these two glowing eyes and a glitchy demon voice, explaining how, 'Music is the product of intelligent beings' and how it's his gateway.

You fight to free parts of "The Symphony of Souls" which was created by the demon, or whatever he is for that manner, and his subordinates, who, coincidentally, are abducted composers. Go figure.

The weapon system is very cool, the fact that you can choose four different weapons, each working a different way, to fight off the waves.

The leaderboard system is interesting as well, because, the weaker you are, the higher your base score multiplier.

You also unlock different difficulty levels as you free parts of the Symphony.

Now for the breakdown:

Built in song library
Fleshed out weapon system
Weapon Customization (Upgrades, Rotration, firing type, etc)

You Die, A Lot (Unlimited lives though)
Having your own music makes the geme more personal
Leaderboards don't always recognise songs
Mildly annoying firing effects

tl;dr Veterans and newbies alike will enjoy this game that fuses elements of classic vertical shooters, and rhythm games

Your music is under attack! Go save it!!!!
Seriously though, this game is great fun. A top-down arcade shooter, it employs a mouse to move your ship and the left mouse button to shoot.
It's a wonderful idea that's well implemented, and different from other music base games. Yes, I'm referring to Beat Hazard.
While Beat Hazard is certainly fun, the tiered unlock system leaves something to be desired. In Symphony, all items, whether they're ship weapons or power ups picked up in the game are generated per song. So each song is its own item, which can be unlocked or not, and upgraded or not. Oh, the choices.
Other than that it's pretty straightforward. Lots of flashy neon graphics and the use of your own music means the replay value is high. Just don't try any EDM if you're not ready for that kind of insanity.

Symphony is not your average bullet hell shooter. It seems to be more flashy and the story it has seems a bit like "ah, we need to add a plot, what should we do?" "just add something it doesnt matter anyway...". And it really doesnt matter because:

+You can add your own music to be played as levels!
+Has at least a little build-in "Plot" and also 5 different bosses to fight
+Nicely done diffuculties
+Customize your ship to suit your playstyle

-Controller works, but the menu controls seem to be buggy. Sometimes you hear the courser move but u dont see it Oo
-Stage design is always thesame. It only changes colours depending on the speed of the song
-You have to beat each boss 5 times and they seems to not change their movesets

To put it all together:
Love it. A great game for all bullet hell and music lovers out there!

Fun little Shoot 'Em Up that uses your own music to generate the waves of incoming enemies. You only have a small play zone to maneuver, with enemies coming in from the sides & top of your screen making for some intense close combat game play. The responsivness of your ship with the mouse is great giving you minute control over your position & graphically the enemies & weapons fire is easy to distinguish even when there is a lot going on, on-screen.

Each song completed will grant you a random weapons upgrade drop, with a chance of a rare drop. These can be purchased (& upgraded) to increase your firepower of the four weapons slots on your ship & you can even change the angle of fire for each slot to customise your layout further which is cool. This is needed as you progress up the difficulty levels & to kill the random bosses needed to complete the story mode. Scoring is combo based, so the more you can kill in sequence (with less enemies escaping), will grant higher scores but stay nimble as each death will cost you a score penalty. Each kill also drops a bonus '♫' to pickup, granting health, power-ups & score increases so you need to be quick & get them all before they disappear for the best scores.

I found all but the top two difficulty levels relatively easy; each difficulty level unlocks after killing three bosses. This can take some time making the start of the game feel rather dull to grind out the first few bosses, but if you stick with it, it becomes far more enjoyable later. For me, I just got a little tipsy off a few ciders, cranked up the volume & enjoyed some of my favorite tracks which certainly helped make the initial grind pass by much quicker :p .

Although your music generates the enemies, you don't really get a sense of any pattern to the beat which would have been nice. For example, sometimes it goes into 'hardcore mode' in parts of songs you wouldn't expect & this seems to increase in frequency the higher the difficulty you go. It's not a big issue though, as you do get the feeling of randomness in the waves so each run feels different.

Regardless of the few shortcomings, if you love your music & your shoot 'em ups it is very easy to waste away a few hours in ♪ Symphony ♪ liberating your music!

This is... Just beautifull. I played this for a hour, and fell in love with this already.
The bosses feel very powerfull, when they are introduced. But have some awesome weapons and kill them easilly!
You get points and new unclockable weapons every time you play a new song, story is amazing, just, PERFECT.
I reccoment it to everyone.
And is it worth the money, you ask?
It's worth MUCH more. I maybe will get the iTunes & m4a support DLC, just for supporting the developers, because i don't even have iTunes.
Just buy it. It's awesome. You won't gonna regret it.

Symphony is an example of an interesting concept let down by poor execution.

The idea of a shoot 'em up influenced by your music is a good one, and the plot conceit of fighting to rescue the composers of your music is neat.

Unfortunately, it is let down by basic elements. Gameplay is simply not good. Everything is pretty much the same colour and the screen can get very full. Audiosurf's stark contrasts made for gorgeous visuals. This is just a chaotic mess.

You can unlock and equip a variety of weapons but little information is given about them and the strategy seems to be mostly just holding down the mouse button and moving around.

There doesn't feel like a lot of gameplay difference in the songs. It seems to go from low intensity to high intensity and back with nothing in between, and often not in places you'd expect.

The interface is quite clunky, and so badly designed that in some places text actually overlaps. How that is still happening after multiple patches is beyond me, but it certainly doesn't leave a good impression.

It's not outright awful, and there's some nice ideas in there, but it just hasn't come together.
