To play Red Faction on Windows 7 (And possibly Win 8 or any new PC these days) you need to install Pure Faction
http://purefaction.org/
Easy to install and once done you can run the game in widescreen aspect ratio and up to 1920x1200
a guide shows how here - http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=187911016

For an old game this has aged well and still holds up as a terrific fast paced first person shooter. As I was playing I couldn't help finding Similarities to half-life (although not quite as good or long) which when you think this was released in 2001 and half-life in 1998 it actually shows how great half-life is and was for the time.

A massive arsenal of weapons and unlike Half-Life there are destructible sections where you can basically blow holes in to your surroundings. It never feels as linear as it is, as you can often take two or more routes to your destination which I liked a lot and found myself wanting to explore all routes and even go back to kill the enemies on the other route.

Quite challenging at times and had to retry some sections after dying and changing different weapons for different enemies. Also near the end there aren't many health packs available so make sure you don't auto save like I did with 3 health!

Vehicles are fun to drive and you get the chance to pilot a submarine, flying ship, armoured vehicle which all have guns attached as well as using turrets on the backs of vehicles and stand alone ones too. The game has a lot of everything youd expect from a shooter including lots of explosives (C4 remote charges, rocket launches although the grenades sucked).

There is a small stealth section in the game where you have to holster your weapons and navigate the section without being seen/recognised which I didn't like, but this is only a small part. It just didn't seem to work very well and slowed down the pace of the game.

Without Half-Life this would get 10/10 but sadly for Red Faction there is and due to the length in story as well and that bad stealth section It cant quite be the game that beats the king but still deserves a respectable 8/10.

I bought the Red Faction Collection for £3.99 so this cost less than a quid which for a game of this callibre is great and well worth it. Now on to Red Faction 2

One of the great classic!

One should definitely try!

THE BEST: First game where you can almost freely destroy terrain and make shortcuts to areas that are otherwise impossible to reach:
THE GOOD: Weapon are really inaccurate! and some enemies take a whole magazine to defeat.

I have yet to finnish the game, but I like it. I can't help comparing it with Half-Life, though, and while it doesn't feel as good, it certainly is a game that deserved more apreciation from the public. It is a certain reccomendation for players that wanna get a feel for classic shooters, but don't feel like playing Half-Life or classic Quake games again.

The only thing missing from this amazing classic of a game is Multiplayer bots. PS2 version has multiplayer bots but PC does not, WHYYY!?!?!

10/10 Framed as one of the greatest mechanical games of its era.

The game is hard but not ludicrous amounts. The digging mechanic was hyped and there is little of it actually used in the single played. Buy it for nostilgia, I can't see a reason people would any way else. Also far warning there is a few timed section of the game that become impossible if you save at the wrong moment.

It is amazing how nostalgia can affect memories in your mind after enough time has passed.
I remember this game being so realistic with its flashy grapics and geomod technology, along with a really cool story.

Now I play it, and I find it to be a fairly standard story of rebelion. Though the graphical capabilities of the game are ok, even geomod, just not as impressive as I recall.

That being said, I still thouroghly enjoyed this game(then and now).
The gunplay is good, and it's alot of fun blowing big holes in the map(at least in the sections that allow you to do so).

Is is a descent first person shooter with a neat gimmick.

Give it a go.

I can't believe that haven't played this game when it was released, it's looks so advanced for 2001. Still is playable in 2016.

Pontos positivos:
- Bom jogo pra relembrar velhos tempos.
- Boa jogabilidade.

Nota final : 9/10
