“...playing is winning, and there’s something quite satisfying about leading your house to power and glory through whatever means you can, for as long as you can.”
9,5/10 – Strategy Informer

“In short, Crusader Kings II is a majestic feudal sandbox, the greatest generator of hilarious medieval soap opera ever created and Paradox Interactive’s best title to date.”
90/100 – IncGamers

“It's perfectly possible to have made a few too many enemies, anger the Pope and find most of Europe out for your blood. That's really what makes the game so damn fun.”
9/10 – Destructoid

The Dark Ages might be drawing to a close, but Europe is still in turmoil. Petty lords vie against beleaguered kings who struggle to assert control over their fragmented realms. The Pope calls for a Crusade to protect the Christians in the Holy Land even as he refuses to relinquish control over the investiture of bishops - and their riches. Now is the time for greatness. Expand your demesne and secure the future of your dynasty. Fill your coffers, appoint vassals, root out traitors and heretics, introduce laws and interact with hundreds of nobles, each with their own agenda.
A good lord will always need friends to support him. But beware, as loyal vassals can quickly turn to bitter rivals, and some might not be as reliable as they seem... Stand ready, and increase your prestige until the world whispers your name in awe. Do you have what it takes to become a Crusader King?
Crusader Kings II explores one of the defining periods in world history in an experience crafted by the masters of Grand Strategy. Medieval Europe is brought to life in this epic game of knights, schemes, and thrones...

Determined to unite Ireland. Crazy Norse wife kills all my spymasters, poisons 2 of my sons in less than a year.

Half a year later adventurer from spain threatens me and I think "It's fine, he's no threat to me." 1 year later, 30,000 angry men attack my fledgling, petty kingdom, vassals declare independance, revolt happens and king dies from head injury in battle.

3 year old son put on the throne only to be poisoned by wife.

10/10, would play again.

Was Emperor of Francia, suddenly every ruler I had was mysteriously murdered until there were 3 members left. The person who inherited was German and a very distant cousin of his first victim. As a German, my subjects were not best pleased and assainated me placing my French niece on the throne. I went from around 70 family members to 2 because of this one German cousin. 10/10

Endless replayability. CKII may take a while to get into, but once you learn about most, if not all game features, you'll find countless things you can do or try to achieve. Story unfolds itself, because while there is no narrative or script, your actions and actions of others really change the world and characters around your dynasty. Vast personal traits and characteristics that every single one character in game can have make up the story, as their actions are mostly defined by the personalities they have.

Okay, I'll be straight forward about this. I like Paradox, and I love this game. Note: I LOVE THIS GAME.
But, since this game gets so much positivity from its community; I'm going to try and point out all the downsides of this game.

First of all, DLC wh***ing is outright ridiculous. I need to pay an extra dollar or two just so my ruler can be black? What th-
I can understand DLC for maybe Ruler Designer, Rajas of India, and other major additions to the game; for the sake of income. But, the excessive amounts of pain it brings me to need to pay extra money for my temporary levied troops that wander around the map to look like soldiers with holes in their shields rather than soldiers with regular shields, is getting out of hand.

Secondly, it's the sad fact- admittedly, following most grand strategy games- that multi-player is broken. Broken, oh- so, so broken.
Crashes will kill that grin on your face at your victory of restoring the Roman Empire with your buds, and the multi-player seems to be intended for small groups of friends rather than the public community.

Thirdly, is the obvious broken AI during wars. Sure, it's amusing when your enemies have insufficient boats or none at all; and thus they're unable to take that island of yours that they declared war for, and thusly lose the war by default, but sometimes it's just stupid.
Maybe there should be advantages to holding enemy territory in long-term wars, too; like temporarily ruling over those lands as you hold them, generating a fraction of the income you normally would. Seems fitting in large-scale long-term wars.

Lastly (Though I could go on if I really wanted to), is the fact that as an Emperor/King/anyone ruling over a collection of vassals, /your vassals hate you and want to bring you down/.
I get it; vassals are usually supposed to be ambitious, and I understand that they don't form factions when they have positive opinions of you, but..-
When it comes to common sense; I find them lacking. When given the choice between working with their current liege, or breaking away temporarily for the sake of independence; only to be conquered shortly afterwards by another ruler and possibly losing their lands, culture and very religion, they'll take the second option. Why? I don't know.

In conclusion; I can't stress how much I love this game, honestly. Don't get me wrong. It's worth buying, and playing, and I really wish there was a neutral button for 'Do you recommend this game?'. But, one or two of these issues need to be at least somewhat addressed, and I would not recommend buying this game at full price.

Speechless with this game!

There are only positive facts to mention about the gameplay. Literally nothing negative!

Unfortunately, it gets really interesting and pleasant once you get 2 or 3 important DLCs. To be honest, DLCs make the difference in this game imho. Indeed, Paradox is way too greedy when they ask you around 100 Euros to get all DLCs! And that's the game's only, but in the same time, great drawback.

Gameplay: 10/10
Sound and Songs: 10/10
Graphics (not of big importance): 8/10
How long you can play it until you get bored (cannot count it): 10/10
Need of DLCs: 8/10
Fact that Need of DLCs is very high: 0/10 (i really hate this fact)
Historical Backround: 8/10 (much more accurate than the Total War series but still not 100% accurate and this can be seen in the Byzantine Empire)

All in all, 9/10 simply because there is a great need for the DLCs.

Where do I start. This game is addictive as all hell. It is a pure character role play orientated game where you play generation from generation of your family throughout the dark ages with everything revolving around how YOU as the player mould your character and his/her successors. This does mean that a single playthrough from just 1066 to 1453 can take in the excess of sevral days.

Have you ever wanted to play as a Spaniard with Russian culture who is a staunch believer of the Zoroastrian faith and conquer Germany? In this game, you can! That is just the tip off the iceberg of insanity. I have had a succession war with my 1st born son who was also the SPAWN OF SATAN, literally a hell baby.

Now understand this game can be daunting to new players especially because there are no real good tutorials provided by the game. That is definitely a shortfall and has to be made up with Youtube tutorials or experienced friends who play the game. The other problem is how random some events can be which can royally screw over a fresh game. I wont go into details but I am sure many of my fellow players can recount situations the destroyed their games. Also It pretty much a requirement to get game mechanic DLC such as Old Gods and the Republic to get the most out of the game.

That is the only real problems I can think of with the game. Otherwise its an excellent game with challenges and character driven role play. Fantastic modding community always re-inventing the game and extending the hours of life this game has. I don’t think this game can be adequately compared to any other just because how unique it is.

I rate this game 11/10

Grand strategy game (real time with pause) taken to a very personal level: rather than making sure your country prospers, you are the head of a dynasty and growing prestige of your dynasty is your main interest.

Being a ruler of a prospering country certainly helps with growing prestige, but at the end of the day your dynasty must prevail, not this or that country... When you die, you take up the mantle as your heir - and really the only way to lose is not to have a heir at all, never mind the possible ruin you put your kingdom (duchy? county? empire?) in.

Feel like assassinating your old, barren wife yet? Or at least making some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s to legitimize on the side?

Have you seen the cinematic on the store page? Go see it. If you think they're joking - nope, stuff like that can really happen. Every bit of it. And more. Much more. Real game of thrones material here. You can build an army and conquer, but dividing with intrigue and tactical assassination is also a big thing.

Emergent gameplay in a true strategy at its finest. The stories you can tell after you're done with your playthrough? Priceless.

There may be quite a bit to take on at first learning-curve-wise but it *so* much worth it.

I've enjoy this game a lot. I don't think I would have had as much fun playing it without watching Youtube videos mostly Arumba. You made this game great ^^ I've most enjoyed playing the Republics, I highly Recommed the game to just about anyone who played Sengoku or Europa etc. If your a Total War buff or like the old school total wars this is the game for you no doubt. ^^ take care all.

I'm going to try and keep mthis review short and simple but take note this review is hard to make short. To start off this gmae is like no other it is pretty much the most interesting game you will find. I Truely suggest you atleast try the demo. This game is for all gamers no matter whoever tells you its not. I have been playing this game for awhile to know this isnt just one game you forget about! You will make more momments in this game alone or with freinds that you will never think twice about how much money or effort you spent. The developer's are truely great and are always updating the game. There are many DLC's and i do suggest you buy them to get the full experience this game has to offer. The most defining game features in the game are:

700 years of gameplay (with dlc)

Your own history in the medieval ages with one family

Tons upon tons of days of replayability (no two games are alike)

Conquering europe

I Give this game a 10/10 and its my opinion that any person and/or gamer can get into this and love it to death !

If you have any questions about Crusader Kings 2 or just want to enjoy a nice group full of people that love the game PLEASE contact me, freind me, or even join my group we would love to have more people interested in this game !

10/10 A must buy

Well...I killed my wife by burning a barn down while she was in it, To stop her from having her give birth to a boy (A very desturb way of killing a person for a birth), But it was a waste of time sense I died of a illness and my son took what was rightfully his with his unborn sibling dealt with, Overall, 10/10 ALWAYS WHATCH WHAT YOU DO UNMORALY!.
