Bardzo udana kontynuacja Alana Wake'a.
Wątki konkretne, nastawione na akcje. Wartka fabuła.
Jedyny minus to fakt, że przeszedłem ją w jedyne 5 godzin:)
Jeśli chcesz postrzelać, rozładować emocje i zrelaxować się,
rywalizując ze znajomymi to dodatkowy motyw
"przetrwać do świtu" jest dobrą opcją.
No i grywalność dobra, skoro 1 części mój komp nie uradzi a tą tak.
Polecam.

My review of Alan Wake's American Nightmare will be based on 4 categories: Performance, Gameplay, Graphics, and Story. As a summary, Alan Wake's American Nightmare is an
arcade spin-off that's more action-focused and varied than its predecessor in terms of gameplay. For the currrent price, I'd say that this is a must buy for fans of Alan Wake but newcomers may want to wait for a sale or even skip the game entirely because of its incoherent plot and repetitive gameplay.

Performance
The PC port of this game was handled by Nitro Games (who also ported Alan Wake to PC) so performance really shouldn't be surprising considering that the first game was optimized as heck.
Performance on a FX-6300 processor, R9 270 GPU, and 8 GB of RAM in a 1080p resolution at ultra settings yields an average of 50 FPS.

Graphics options available:

No bugs or crashes experienced during playthroughs however be wary that no game is bug-free. If by chance you do encounter some bugs and crashes, please visit this page for a list of possible fixes.

Gameplay
American Nightmare is basically Alan Wake in an arcade form with gameplay that is very simple and fitting for this type of game. The mechanics are very much the same; they just added a whole lot of tweaks like new automatic guns, a minimap that shows you where manuscript pages and points of interests are, and the very welcome improvement to Alan's lungs and legs as he can now dash for more than 2 minutes with an added bonus of a faster running speed. It's repetitive, tedious, and lacks challenge but for an arcade title, you really don't need all the fancy stuff that AAA games have and sometimes, lesser is better. It just goes to show how much tweaking the first game needs if its combat transitions very well to an acrade title. There's some minor reworks as well like how light only affects the taken if you focus it and the faster shield burning. Remedy added this unique feature where you can unlock chests containing powerful guns only if you meet the required number of manuscript pages that you have on person. It's not needed to complete the game, it's not forced, but it's a very good incentive for those who like to go around and collect all the collectibles that they can find.

Graphics
Aside from a new shader and yellowish filter, American Nightmare features a more varied set of locations than the first game; instead of trudging through miles of vegetation and old, creaky industrial buildings, you'll get to walk through a fictional Arizonian desert which includes a roadside motel, an observatory, and a drive-in theater. Though few in number, the constant change of scenery always makes the game feel fresh and interesting. The world even looks more lively than its predecessor because the places that you visit are all functional and traces of civilization still exist. Alan Wake would've benefited from a change of scenario once in a while. Aside from that, everything else remains the same, even the emotionless faces and horrible lip-sync.

Story
Buyers beware! If you've played Alan Wake and finished it, then get ready for a story that mocks the sequel-hungry fans as it leaves you with a happy and satisfying ending - only to remember that this was just a spin-off game (yes, that's how good American Nightmare's story is). If you're a newcomer, then don't even bother with buying this game as the plot and the events that are happening will just make you uninstall the game after the first 10 minutes of playing. Being a spin-off, I was very surprised at how well Sam Lake created the story for this game. In fact, it was very well done that, as stated above, I even forgot that this was a spin-off in the first place. I thought that the events that are happening was a direct continuation of the cliffhanger ending in Alan Wake. The reason why it was very believable was because they took every question that fans had and played with the unknown character, Mr. Scratch, from the first game then fleshed him out while giving him a goal that's so believable in Alan Wake's world. Alan journeys through a world that is very different from the first game yet contains all of its story while cleverly masking the seams and cracks so the light can't pass through. Very clever, very amazing, and I personally can't wait for more.

And there you have it.

With independent additions happens that they are often quite different than what after the contact with the basic version players expect. Wake's journey gets less creepy and more shooty in the fun but still somehow manages to be entertaining.

I have just ended this game, & I am still impressed with the engine and still love the protagonist as much.

For various reasons I preferred the first in the series by far.
-The setting was more cozy to say it quickly.
-The story very engaging. In this installment automatic weapons are introduced, which is a nice break-letting the lead fly. The forest [AW1] is something I appreciated rather than a heated "Texas" diner in the desert [American Nightmare] (Where I reside it's QUITE hot, letting my imagination roam was enjoyable).

I recommend the game;

-It is my favourite genre; 3rd person shooter.
-I compare it favourably with Alan Wake 1, I just prefer 1.
-It is HD (high definition), I played it on my Vista.
-Compatible on most systems.

If you like you may look at my review for AW1, it was the first review I ever wrote, "glowingly" and "praising" the game. http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197991756666/recommended/108710.

I feel like re-playing Alan Wake 1 right now, that's a reflection of the positive effect this game had on me :-)

Alan Wake's American Nightmare is a game that folluws up on the succesfull "Alan Wake", starting it's story where the DLCs of the latter left of. So you should definitely play the original first, because of spoilers and because that is still better.
But is Nightmare good as well? I'd say yes, but for different reasons than the original. Where Alan Wake had a story of horror, confusion and mystery, in Nightmare this is simply not possible anymore, since the player (or at least the Protagonist Alan) already knows what is behind it all. So the game has to go into a different direction.
Nightmare has a good and fun combat system, great soundtrack (that raises some of the moments in the game to nothing short of awesome), an interesting story that fully embraces the new possibilities now that Alan knows what is going on, and most importantly one of the best villains in Video Game history: Mr. Scratch. Said villain appears on screen only as a real human played by an actor, who does a marvellous job at looking like the perfect psycho killer. With superpowers. And an army of unholy monsters.

Admittedly, the game's world is not that large and the game doesn't take that long to complete (except if you really like the combat and get into the arcade mode), but if you happen to get it on sale, for say under 5 bucks, you should give it a try, especially if you liked the original.

★★★☆☆

Pros:
- Continuation of the exellent torch/shooting mechanics
- I like the games style and though visually was really good
- Increased difficulty as game goes on, I love how the AI circal you
- Both a Story mode and Arcade levels

Cons:
- Repetitive to the point where it got silly
- Corny storyine and narration

Verdict: A decent stand alone piece of DLC, despite the repetitive nature the action was enjoyable enough for me to see this through.

I loved Alan Wake. However I was skeptical coming into American Nightmare and rightly so. I'd call AN a spin-off rather than a sequel to Alan Wake given its slightly brighter color palette and more action-oriented gameplay. The story, as well, while having some connections to the original it doesn't have the same amount of effort put into it and seems to only be there so that there's something to call a story.

However, the game itself is not delluding itself that it's something that it's not. I feel this was done consciously to give Alan Wake fans a quick fix of what they liked while I suspect a sequel is in the works. But therein lies the game's biggest caveat: It's a game for Alan Wake fans. People coming into the series with American Nightmare will find themselves confused and lacking valuable backstory information, no matter the game's good intentions and attempts to bring everyone up to speed.

The graphics are doing new and interesting things with color and lighting in this new western desert setting as opposed to the gray and blue of the Rocky Mountains' nights in the previous game, but the soundtrack seems to fall short this time, lacking the storyline integration that made the first one great.

All in all in spite of all this I had fun with Alan Wake's American Nightmare and I'm giving it a thumbs up, but with a footnote: For fans of the series.

Positives:
+ Enjoyable graphic style
+ Voiceovers
+ Story (at least the first "go through")
+ Mechanics are interesting

Negatives:
- You essentially repeat the same story three times. There are some shortcuts in the later versions, but this was still annoying
- Some of the conversations are needlessly long and uninteresting
- Short. I finished the game in 3.8 hours, and considering you repeat essentially the same story multiple times, that story is pretty brief.

Comments:
I purchased the original Alan Wake game with no real expectations, and was extremely surprised at how much I enjoyed it. American Nightmare has the same interesting mechanics, but the story is not nearly as well done, and the fact that you basically repeat the same thing multiple times is disappointing. Still, it was enough fun that, if you liked the original Alan Wake, it's worth a playthrough if you can pick it up on sale.

While Alan Wake's strongpoint was it's narrative and storytelling, American Nightmare seemed to think it was the gameplay. Because of that, Alan Wake's American Nightmare is a definite step back from the original, and unless you really liked the combat of Alan Wake, to the extent you'd play a mediocre game just to have a more refined version of said combat, then don't bother with Alan Wake's American Nightmare.

The game take place at an indeterminate time after Alan's been stuck in Cauldron Lake, he escapes by rewriting reality, and he ends up in Night Springs. It turns out Alan is some "Champion of Light", trying to defeat the "Herald of Darkness"... who the hell wrote this ♥♥♥♥? This isn't Alan Wake, it's some weird pseudo-fantasy cliched bullcrap. Anyway, he's looking for his doppleganger, Mr Scratch, who is the Herald of Darkness, and seeks to destroy him. Along they way he meets secondary characters who seems to completely oblivious to everything that's happening, and just sorta wait for ♥♥♥♥ to go wrong.

Eventually they do, and Alan goes to a new version of reality where he didn't ♥♥♥♥ up. Rinse and repeat a few times until Fin. The story is uninteresting and unnessarily padded, with the same sequence of events happening 3 times over. The villain is just a ♥♥♥♥ version of Alan Wake. He's not even like some evil destroyer of worlds, or some Orange/Blue Morality Nethergod or something; he's just slightly more dickish Alan Wake.

Aside from the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ plot, combat in the game has been changed a bit. It features more weapons and noticebly faster than in the original game. While the combat is more enjoyable, it still doesn't make up for the bad narrative.

If you liked Alan Wake (at least for the reasons I did), then skip this one, it's not worth your time or your money.

A kind of spin off sequel from Alan Wake. The graphics were good and it ran very well plus the story was decent. It was however very short and a bit repetitive. 5 hours only needed to complete. If you like Alan Wake though its worth a purchase when on sale.
