Super Toy Cars v1.0.5a


It's been a while since last update, so I think it's about time we added something here :o)

So we've implemented quite a few fixes and minor features that have been requested both in the forums and by people either personally, through mail or in youtube videos. Here is a list of the features:

- Changed start grid FX to be 'after' the start gate, not before it so that they are more visible. We have fixed the issue whereby it triggered every lap in replays too.
- Added a new step in the tutorial explaining the different camera options.
- Sensibly improved collisions using 'invisible walls' all over the game to replace per-object collisions. The cars now behave a lot better after crashing against a wall.
- Fixed audio bugs in the engines due to sudden rev changes.
- Added the possibility of revving the engine in the count-down (although it has no gameplay utility yet)

As always, we're open to more suggestions and if you find any bugs or issues with the new (or old) features, please let me know and I'll do my best to fix them ASAP.

Super Toy Cars is a tabletop arcade combat racing game featuring fast and cool looking cars, impressive tracks made of everyday objects and a bunch of power-ups that will let you destroy your opposition. Collect all cars and upgrades to keep up with competition while you progress in career mode or have a quick race either against AI opponents or against friends. You can play up to 4 players locally and up to 8 players online. Go and build your own tracks, share them with friends or play with them in your tracks. Super Toy Cars is big and with lots of options for you to tinkle and play with, but most importantly this game has been carefully crafted to be fun play and fun to race, either alone or with friends.

There are 16 different cars in the game each one with its unique handling model. You can experiment with them and play the ones that best suite your driving style and the different situations you'll find in our 12 tracks. Oh, and maybe you'll want to use different cars depending on which type of event you're playing, because we have 48 events in career mode, but not all of them are races! And if you grow tired of the tracks in the game you can always check what other tracks have the community built or even build your own and share it with our in-game track editor.

Early Access Roadmap

We have a roadmap in place for the period the game is going to be in Early Access. We are aiming for a final release date in the first or second week of May. We have roughly 10 weeks to that date and we're planning to do, at least, weekly builds with improvements. We'll be announcing what's new in every build in the announcements section, but anyway here's the planned roadmap:

  • March, 3rd: Mostly bugfixing and online improvements. Possibly some improvements in the HUD and menus.
  • March, 10th: Improved menus backgrounds, improved HUD, better and more consistent AI accross the game. Achievement icons.
  • March, 17th: More effects and particle systems. Bugfixing.
  • March, 24th: First batch of vehicle paintjobs.
  • April, 7th: Mac version. Second batch of vehicle paintjobs.
  • April, 21st: Linux version. All vehicles have, at least, 2 paintjobs available.
  • April, 28th: Some easter eggs, and other bonuses. Maybe provide a first alpha of a vehicle editor.

Bear in mind that this list is meant to change and adapt to your suggestions and feedback. Although we can't guarantee we'll implement every detail and suggestion we receive, we'll do our best to react to community feedback and make of Super Toy Cars the best game we can with your help.

A very nice game, I completed the main part in nearly 3 hours. Its fun! Not only can you get new cars, But you can get styles for cars and stuff. Very nice game.

Best Micro-machines racing so far.

+ DRM free - The game will run without steam.
+ Brilliantly designed.
+ Running pretty well and smooth.
+ Delivering tons of fun with a short budget.
+ Level editor.

- Buggy multiplayer.
- Few soundtracks.

Super Toy Cars=Super Fun!!!

Its simple, yet challenging. I played it one weekend, and finally, just dominated every race. I was kinda disappointed, as I enjoy a good challenge. I then got busy for the next 3 days. When on the fourth day, I tried it, I was surprised at how rusty I was that I even failed at a race challenge that I usually had no problem with!

One down side is, that the online mutli-player lobby is usually empty. I first tried an online race, June 14, 2014. I was the only one on. I tried a second race. Again, only me. So I checked the time. 9:27pm Eastern time. This game will be complete once the online lobby fills up completely with racers.

This is also the perfect game to try to get used to racing games, bumper car type games, games where you get items to use against the other racers(such as MarioKarts.)

Ill be keeping my eye on the multi player lobby. Hopefully, it'll start filling up and I can fix the part of this review and say multi player is going smoothly.

This game is pretty awful.
I wanted to try and like it, but there is very little here to like.
The track editor is just annoying to use.
The cars range from not handling at all to soap bars with wheels.
The Mine Race mode is the worst thing ever.
Physics and collision boxes are just completely random.
There's only 4 different variations on track themes, which don't add anything except a different look to the tracks.
It's almost hard to believe that with such an enormous breadth of games to draw inspiration from that this somehow ended up being worse than any of them.

I was expecting something like the Re-volt games, but boy was I wrong. The cars don't feel like they're small; they don't feel like the toy cars they're supposed to be. As any racing game, it does get repetative, but this one lost my intrest quicker than other racing games I've played.

Now, lets set somthing straight before we get started

I was raised on Re-Volt, Crash Team Racing and Mario Kart

Do you now what all 3 of those games have in common? They are all interesting with a fair bit of replayability

Re-Volt made you feel like you were handling actual toy cars, in addition to having an impressive selection of cars/tracks
Crash Team Racing was just the best. Small-ish selection for cars and tracks. But the power-ups and the sheer uniqueness of the entire game made this a gem
Mario Kart was the great grandfather of kart racing, and had a fairly large track selection and had plenty of multiplayer mayhem

Does Super Toy Cars do this?
Yes. For about an hour and a half. Then it gets *really* dull *REALLY* quickly

The number of tracks described in the description is slightly wrong, or at least pretty misleading. They mean there are 12 tracks TOTAL, and there are 4 different locations TOTAL. It doesnt mean "there are 12 tracks in 4 locations for a total of 48 tracks" Moreover, the tracks are very simple affairs, nothing really unique about them at all

The cars are meh. Between the hitboxes being helariously random (as they collide with the track funkily, making drifting a chore when you clip a tube wall wrong, or get bumped out of a drift by a guy 3 feet away). This also makes ramming quite literally a hit or miss situation

Also, each car has stats that determine how they run. The only way to see these stats is to go into the campaign mode and memorize them, as you cannot see the during "quick race" or "multiplayer" modes. But again, unless if its an extreme stat (insanely high or low) you will not notice a difference. Without fail the high speed models (formula 1 car generally) will have a piece of cake for the races, where as the more maneuverable or more weighty models get lapped constantly with very little balancing

The powerups are lame. There is not much really to be said about them other than they feel weak because of the funky physics on the car's part. If a car gets hit with an 8ball (a very powerful weapon) it kind of gets spun a little... It also has the annoying feature of replacing your powerup whenever you drive over a new one. Making sure that you cant save them for when you need them

So in summary, I would give Super Toy Cars a 4/10

Its not a bad game, just a game done poorly. Pick it up if its on sale for 4 dollars or less, but dont expect much

Ok racing game gets boring quickly. Spend 10 dollars elsewhere

Great Game! Many hours of gameplay, especially when trying to win on every track with the Sputs Golem! Great for evading mines but the top end and short duration of the boost made it very difficult, at least for me. There was another car that i spent quite a few hours trying to win in, but i forget now. Once you do win with one of those cars though, it's like "YESSS!" The devs, namely Barkley, has been here since day one and is still here solving any issues that arise and just letting the player base know that the game is being backed by Eclipse Games , the creator of STC. I am impressed and hats off to Barkley!

I assumed this was going to be Micro machines by another name but its not. Its fast paced madness with lovely bright cartoony circuits. This game aims for cheap thrills and that is exactly what it provides, but who doesn't like some cheap thrills every now and again..?

I see a lot of future potential in this game! It is a very simple concept but still very fun and challenging at times. With a good multiplayer base, this could be a really interesting online play experience. It could use better graphichs though, it is a bit rough.

SUCH fun. Recommend to anyone who enjoyed Mario Kart and who wants a very casual co-op game on Steam. Really annoyed by the music but it's easy to turn that off and play your own stuff in the background.

I really love this fun racing game because of it's many games modes. There's Career, Quick Race, Online Multiplayer, and Track Editor. All of these game modes are super fun and worth the time. There are some downsides like "bad" physics but the creativity of this game balances it out.

Below you'll find both a 3min video review as well as a comprehensive written review:
Super Toy Cars tries to bring their influences of the micro machines series to the today's era. Sadly, the effort is mostly in vain.
The graphics are ugly, especially the edges are very rough, even with 8x MSAA activated. The screenshots shown above are highly post-processed and do not represent the ingame graphics. The sound design is plainly bad. While the music is good, the few tracks get repetitive very quickly and the sound effects are incredibly hideous. The gameplay overall is also subpar. The cars, while feeling distinct from another, all are floaty, act unpredictably in terms of physics, the sliding mechanics requires you to hold a button, which feels unnatural and there are also very few tracks in the base game. However there is a track editor, thus this problem might be solved by the community.

Overall, I would not recommend Super Toy Cars. If you are desperate for an action-racing game and are looking for a couple of hours of enjoyment, maybe with friends, Super Toy Cars could be it, since there is not much other stuff out there. But it's no Mario Kart, Blur or Micro Machines.

Worst racing game i have ever played, and one of the worst games ive ever played of all time. DO NOT BUY. unless maybe its for your 5 year old kid. i had originally purchased this game thinking it would be something like re-volt and it come nowhere close to being the same. anyways yea dont buy it sucks.

Yep! Old micromachines were better. What I didn't like in this game: permanent camera view, camera is too close, there is no ability to drive out from the road, too strong drift effect, turbo is not for this game.
