What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access will allow players to give feedback and influence the development as we move towards a full release. We have built a solid foundation of Winkeltje that is fun to play as is but we realise that it needs more love and attention to make it a shop keeping game that is unique and truly stands out. With this in mind we have our development pipeline set up to release updates and fixes on a regular basis while we work on more content and features.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We aim to have Winkeltje in Early Access for about a year or longer for as long as the resources to develop allow us.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will have more content and features. We intend to add more objectives, furniture, items, decorations, walls, floors, events, and probably more.

We already support community translations but we intend to translate if there is a significant enough demand to the most popular languages in the full release.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Winkeltje is already fully playable with dozens of furniture, items, structural assets, customers, events, seasons and three supported languages (Dutch, French, and Russian). Players part of the closed-alpha have reported enjoying the game for over 10 hours.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“As the game grows in content, features, and entertainment value we may increase the price of the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We have an active Discord community where people provide feedback and suggestions. We have three branches in which we develop the game (default, testing, unstable) where players can try upcoming features or help with community translations.”

Update 3295: Cooking & big planters!

Hey Shopkeepers!

This week you have some new things to sink your teeth into. Next to tailoring and forging, you can now also enjoy cooking! This lets you cook meals using ingredients bought at the trader or grown using planters. Of course, with so many vegetables needed to keep the kitchen running you can now also unlock the Large and Huge planters through diligent farming!

A new update also means fixes and improvements but more on that in the patch notes below!

Finally, thank you so much to everyone on the unstable branch who helped find major issues, and shared suggestions on how to improve it, over the last few days. The game wouldn’t be the same without you all!

Check out the full patch notes below:

Content
  • Community Request: Added the Stove. Cook meals to sell to your customers!
  • Community Request: Added 4 new meals to the game (Vegetable Soup, Vegetable Stew, Applie Pie, Meat Stew).
  • Community Request: Added 2 new planters. Speed up farming by unlocking and buying the Large and Huge planters!
  • Added objective tree for cooking.
Controls
  • Furniture placement will now be cancelled (if not paid yet) or returned (if already paid) with (Tab/ESC/F/) & (Square/Triangle/Circle) & (X/Y/B).
Options
  • Community Request: Added a ‘fancy graphics’ checkbox. Uncheck it to improve performance at the cost of some graphical fidelity.
Improvements
  • Community Request: Planting UI now opens again after planting if the station has slots left and the player has the seeds to fill them
  • Compressed assets to bring down build size.
  • When the day ends, customers will stay around until their patience meter runs out.
  • Changed the way the game tracks if all customers have left the shop or not, should feel a lot snappier now.
  • Shopbuilder: Updated controls for controller users.
  • Trying to edit a wall when you can't should now show an info pop-up telling you why this is not possible.

Bug Fixes
  • The right arrow in the buy/order menu was not animating
  • The info pop-up telling you that you don't have enough capacity was not showing for controller.
  • Losing selection in the main menu could soft lock the game when playing with controller.
  • Switching input device in the main menu should now show the correct prompt graphics.
  • The main menu did not support the Xbox360 prompt graphics.
  • Switching to shopbuilder using a controller would nog show the correct prompts.
  • The window for the difficulty description has been made wider to support the longest description

Patch 3222, fixes and some changes!

Hey Shopkeepers,

Today we’re pushing some more critical bug fixes that came up since the last patch. We've also spent some time working on some quality of life improvements that should smoothen out some of the gameplay. Some of the controls have been changed in this process, so make sure you check out the notes below!

We would also like to take this moment to inform you guys about the unstable branch here on steam. By playing on the unstable branch, you have the chance to be the first to play the newest versions of the game! In fact, this branch is updated nearly every day with the latest fixes and in-progress content! Because of this, we do recommend joining the discord so you can remain updated on the changes from day to day and report issues as they come up. If you are interested in joining those who live dangerously, more information on how to join the unstable branch can be found on the discord as well!

Patch Notes:

Changes
  • You can now rotate the camera when placing wall mounted furniture
  • Added an indicator on the ground when placing wall mounted furniture with a controller
  • Restock UI should now always appear to the right of the furniture you click on.
  • Made the animation on the unlock button in the options radial more noticeable.
  • Selling furniture is now moved to the F key as player reported frustration having it on the RMB click.
  • Cloning is back to holding the clone button and placing to trigger the cloning behavior. Teaching the player to run with the clone button was evil.

Improvements
  • Buying or delivering items can now increment by 10 (Shift/LB/L1) and 100 (Ctrl/RB/R1).
  • Better error handling when the game tries to load in an objective that doesn't exist anymore.
  • Sprint, clone, and snap are now shown as prompts on the screen when relevant.
  • Added an info pop-up for a less intrusive way to tell you things.
  • Save files now ignore furniture & items that can't be loaded in, allowing us to deprecate those through updates if necessary.
  • 'R' is now a hotkey for restocking in the restock UI.

Bug Fixes
  • Some of the button prompts in the bottom left of the screen were not highlighting when they should.
  • When changing the walls with a controller it now correctly replaces a wall instead of deleting it first.
  • Fixed some issues with particle states with planters
  • Fixed multiple issues with label positions not being placed or released correctly.
  • The wall masking was triggered in the main menu intro animation.
  • Entrance would sometimes become unusable.
  • Opening the shop before the day transition was done caused the day to stop at night.
  • Cost indicator would show wrong price when cloning upgraded furniture.
  • Sunflowers unlockable again, as intended.
  • Decorations should no longer be interactable when the shop is open.
  • Furniture that has its accesspoints blocked will now correctly be updated when the blocking object is moved.
  • When no historical data is found, the starter categories are used to determine customer interest.
  • Added a check to see if an item exists before trying to add it to a display. This would in rare cases cause an error.
  • Customers should now correctly spawn in front of the door.
  • Furniture modifiers in scenarios would not be loaded in correctly when loading a save file.
  • Prompts should now update when opening and closing the restock UI.
  • Updated various objects with incorrect or non-existing label positions.

About This Game

Winkeltje is a game about building, decorating and running a small shop in the days of old. You will deal with the day-to-day business as the shop owner while you unlock new things that will help you run a lucrative enterprise.

As the shopkeeper of your very own shop you are in charge of buying, selling, and making a profit. Items can be bought from passing traders or delivered at a fee. Items can be placed on displays in order to sell them to customers. When you are ready, you can open your shop to start the day and let customers in. Customers will buy what you have on display if it matches what they are looking for. If you don't provide what a customer wants in time, they will be sad and leave. A day of shopkeeping can be stressful but rewarding!

Bring out your interior designer by freely placing and rotating all furniture or use snapping if inaccuracy drives you nuts. Furniture comes in a variety of categories. There are displays which let you display items to sell in your shop. Decorations will make your shop more appealing and increase the amount of customers that come to your shop. You can increase the item stock capacity by placing storage type furniture. With crafting type furniture you can produce items to sell in your shop.

When you have amassed enough money you can decide to expand your shop. The shop building is tile based where you decide what floor to place and what walls surround each tile. Walls can also be windows, archways, or doors. Expanding will also make your shop more appealing to customers as each piece makes your shop more appealing. Each wall type has a matching entrance to really tie the place together.

Crafting lets you create items that you can sell in your shop. Crafting requires resources but lets you gain experience so that you can create higher quality items than what you can get from traders. Currently you can craft tools and weapons at the forge and clothing at the tailoring station. As the game develops, more crafting options will become available.

In Winkeltje you can buy seeds from traders, plant seeds in planters, water plants, and harvest crops. Crops are items that you can sell in your shop. If crops aren't cared for they can wither and die.

As time goes by you will encounter events and seasons. Events and seasons can affect the supply and demand for certain items. It can be profitable to stock up on certain items so that you can sell them for more profit when the time is right.
