About This Game

Across the surface of Shoal, ten thousand guns sound at once. The keen of laser beams build, punctuated by the staccato thrum of orbital landings. A choir of voices rises as the armies of the galaxy’s oldest and newest civilizations meet in battle. From the vast reaches of space, the chaos is almost musical—a symphony, drifting into the void.

Cantata casts you in the role of a Commanding Officer of one of three factions - The 111th Reign of Harmony & Prosper, The Unified Spirit, and The People of Sun & Shadow - with the goal of assembling a formidable force and expanding their hold on the mysterious planet Shoal. With a strong focus on logistics, supply lines, and region-based area control, Cantata forces players to think critically about every move they take on this treacherous planet.

GRAND TACTICS

Combining elements from Grand Strategy titles with the small-scale skirmishes of classic Tactics games, in Cantata you’ll start with a small base of operations and crucial few units, and then bring your grand strategic vision to life by building new structures, managing your regions, and expanding your army. As your presence on the planet Shoal grows you’ll be keeping a close eye on not only the empire you’ve built but also growing threats across the map.

EXPLORE AN ALIEN PLANET

Cantata comes with a fully authored narrative campaign complete with a weird sci-fi story, gorgeous character art, and intricately detailed environments and terrains to explore. A far cry from standard strategy mission design, each Campaign map plays like a fully self-contained sci-fi story, offering you glimpses of the deep lore and history behind the game’s three factions. Additionally, the maps are largely non-linear, with every map holding secrets to seek out and find and help you over the course of the campaign. You'll need to do proper recon to determine the best route across the landscape to your opponent, however; the planet of Shoal isn't one to let you idly move across its surface. Just like any other faction, the planet itself takes a turn every round, giving it the ability to fight back against the war on its surface with weather, fauna, and other mysteries.

SINGLEPLAYER & ONLINE MULTIPLAYER

With both local and online multiplayer you can challenge friends and strangers across scenarios. Bring your fully strategic mind to bear as you strategise to claim regions, out-manoeuvre your enemies, and surprise them with your unexpected ambushes. Cut off their supply lines, or meet them head-on at the front of battle. The choice is yours.

MAKE THE GAME YOUR OWN

We’ve gone out of our way to make Cantata incredibly mod-friendly, to the point that we create every single campaign map in the exact same tool you’ll have access to in game. You have the full suite of options in your hands to make amazing tactical strategy maps. And if you get bored of our units, you can import your own custom units and terrains and make your own fully custom maps to share with everyone else in Steam Workshop.
