What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“PC Building Simulator is nearly feature complete however the process of creating accurate models of real hardware and implementing them into the game is a long one. We currently have a wide range of hardware we still need to integrate into the game so we plan to use Early Access to continue to expand the range of playable hardware while also incorporating any feedback from the community on existing features of the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are looking to have a short period in Early Access, around 2-3 months depending on feedback from the community.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“During Early Access we will be adding a few more features, but mostly it will be about adding more hardware to build with, our shortlist of things to add before we exit Early Access is:

  • Water Cooling
  • Overclocking
  • More licensed components
  • Fully localised into select languages
  • More benchmarking options
  • More job types in career mode

For more information on future features, please check our public roadmap here: https://www.pcbuildingsim.com/early-access-roadmap/

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“When PC Building Simulator launches into Early Access we aim for it to be mostly feature complete and as polished as possible. During Early Access players will have access to:

  • A wide range of fully licensed PC hardware to build with, PC’s can be constructed and powered on to a (simulated) working operating system and include a range of simulated programs from benchmarking (including 3DMark) to control of any RGB lighting in the system.
  • ‘Career Mode’ with multiple job types from a range of customer types.
  • Free Build’ mode that allows players to experiment with any available parts currently in the game without any career mode restrictions.
  • ‘How to Build a PC’ mode to teach players how a PC goes together.
  • Game tutorial for new players.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“There are no plans to raise the price after we exit early access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Real-world PC building is a passion for so many people that we are keen to learn from our players what features we should be concentrating on to make sure PC Building Simulator is as accurate (and as fun) as possible.
Being a small team with a complex simulator it is important that we engage with our community so we can make the best decisions for the game going forward.”

PC Building Simulator Update v0.8.3.1 - Overclocking has finally arrived!

Hello PC Builders,

It has been a busy few weeks for the PC Building Simulator team but we have finally reached a point where we can release the initial version of our next big feature: Overclocking.

Please Note: This is a major feature update to the game and will be tweaked and improved in the coming weeks based on feedback and bug reports. Various art will be improved once functionality has been confirmed as working as expected.

Build v0.8.3.1 Highlights

Overclocking

With this update PC builders will be able to overclock their creations by adjusting areas such as CPU clock speed, CPU voltage, RAM speed, RAM voltage, GPU clock speed, VRAM clock speed and more.

Just like in real-life the aim with overclocking is to push the performance of your hardware to the maximum while maintaining system stability and balancing the heat generated from doing so. Be careful how much you push your hardware, if you push things too far you can break your overclocked components!

We have added a new PC app based on OCCT that will allow you to run a short (yes, this is shorter than the 3DMark time!) stress test of your overclocked hardware so let you know if the system is stable or not.

Overclocking things to know:
  • Overclocking is unlocked for CPUs at level 6 and GPUs at level 13 in Career Mode or right away in Free Build mode.
  • CPU and RAM settings are adjusted in the Bios which can be access via holding the DEL or F2 while booting a PC.
  • Enabling XMP in the Bios for RAM will auto clock your RAM if you don’t want to manually set values.
  • GPU settings are adjusted via a new PC app called GPU Tuner.
Pushing the CPU and RAM too far can result in the part breaking permanently. GPUs can not currently break.
  • Each purchased component has a variance in overclocking ability to simulate the silicon lottery.
  • Overclocked system stability issues can result in blue screens on a PC and CPUs will throttle back performance when overheating.
  • Jobs in Career do not currently request any overclocking features, this will change once the feature is complete.

Career Additions

The player level has been increased from 20 to 25 in this update to allow for 5 new story missions that will appear during these levels.

In addition, we have added random job support for both Dual GPUs and Water Cooling.

New Parts

Antec AIO Water Coolers

Kühler H2O K Series - K120 / 240
Mercury 120 / 240 / 360 RGB

NZXT Aer P 120mm /140mm Case Fans

SilverStone PS14 (Non-Windowed) Case

System Info Upgrade

This application has had an upgrade, if you have it running/open on a PC and run 3DMark it will now overlay information about your temperatures while the benchmark runs.

Full Patch Notes:
  • Overclocking feature enabled, you can now overclock your CPU, RAM and GPU.
  • Added Bios screens for each manufacturer.
  • Added GPU Tuner application to adjust GPU settings.
  • Added new stress testing app in the form of OCCT.

  • System Info app now displays temperature details overlayed on 3DMark if open at the same time as 3DMark.
  • Added the ability to power on a PC with ‘P’ when focussed on a screen.
  • The Will it Run app will now take into account SLI performance when checking a PCs specs.
  • Added further detail for RAM throughout the game to help with overclocking.
  • Fixed the bug where pre-installed case fans would vanish when removed.
  • Fixed the missing costs for workshop furniture in all non-English languages.
  • Fixed a hang that was caused by using the compressed air in some jobs.
  • Fixed an issue where cables were detached apart from their connections when vsync was disabled.
  • Fixed an issue where the rear connections on the EVGA Z370 were out of alignment.
  • Fixed an issue with the case side on the Cooler Master MasterBox 5 MSI Edition that would block installation of parts until it was removed.
  • Fixed various reported cable clipping issues.

What’s Next?

Bug fixing and improvements to the new overclocking feature in the short-term, plus a bunch of new hardware partners we are excited to announce!

Work has begun on Steam Trading Cards, we get asked about these a lot so it will be great to release them as soon as this work is complete.

We are looking forward to seeing how everyone gets on with overclocking, please do share your results with us on the Forums and our Discord server!

Happy Overclocking!

This weeks update is mostly to fix various issues that have been found since the previous update while we continue development work on further career improvements and the overclocking feature. We get asked alot when overclocking is coming, but it is going to be a few weeks yet due to the work involved so please be patient.

Build v0.8.2 Patch Notes

New Parts

  • Added a Restart option to the OS start menu.
  • Cable connection points that cannot be connected for some reason now highlight in Red.
  • Diagnose and Repair jobs now require replaced parts to be similar to the ones that were broken.
  • Fixed PSU fans no longer spinning.
  • Fixed the duplication issue on the PCI lock of the SilverStone PS14.
  • Fixed the issue with Build job post-it notes vanishing when transferring them from bench to bench.
  • Fixed some SATA connections not being connected to the actual motherboard.
  • Fixed the alignment issues for Water Coolers on the CORSAIR Crystal Series 570X RGB case.

What’s Next?

As mentioned at the start of these notes work has begun on the overclocking feature, alongside this we are working on further career objectives to support features already released such as Dual GPUs and Water Cooling and even adding some more storyline missions!

There is lots of exciting things coming for PC Building Simulator in the coming months, I just wish I could say more!

Happy Building!
