What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We believe that the best way to develop games is with the help of the people who will be playing the game when it is finished. Since the game's inception, there has been a publicly available version, and the feedback and excitement it has generated has been invaluable to the development process.

We have previously run a very successful Early Access campaign with Broforce, and we will be using lessons learnt from that campaign to ensure we use this Early Access campaign to make GORN the best game it can be.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The length of the Early Access campaign will depend entirely on the reception of the game. Currently we are moving towards the end of our Early Access campaign.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“For us, a large part of Early Access is figuring out what people like about our game - so most of the work will be prioritised by what YOU would like to see.

More and better content will be the focus of our work - we'd like to add many, many more weapons, more enemies to fight, and more and better champions to defeat. The feeling of progression and variety in the campaign also has a lot of room for improvement as of Early Access launch.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We believe that it is important that a player receives their money's worth at day 1 of Early Access. We believe GORN currently is the best melee combat game available for the vive, and is already capable of providing hours of entertainment in its current state.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price of the game may change after Early Access, depending on community feedback and the amount of content added during development.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Up until now, much of the content and features that have been added to the game since the first public demo has been guided by community requests and this will continue to be our focus going forward.”

GORN EARLY ACCESS FEBRUARY 2019: THE TEACHINGS OF ODALBE UPDATE

Heed the wisdom of the prisoner, gladiator. He was once as you are now.

Your favourite over-the-top VR game is back with an update of monumental proportions. As we fight our way closer to final launch, the Free Lives team are pouring blood and sweat into polishing existing content and improving the game experience for new players.

That said, there should be plenty of content here for GORN fanatics to sink their teeth into. Here are some of the major features you can expect from ‘The Teachings of ODALBE’:

CAMPAIGN
We’ve reworked the progression and unlock system of the game, which now feels a bit more complete. This hasn’t been finalized, so any feedback is highly appreciated!

THE DEATH PIT
Now, finally, you may do battle in the arena where it all started.

MORE FEATURES
  • We’ve updated our Unity engine to a more recent version, mostly for performance fixes.
  • Several weeks of optimization, including everything from sound to physics to rendering. For us, GORN is running much better than before, and this allows you to battle more enemies simultaneously.
  • New sound spatializer engine: This should allow you to better tell where sound is coming from, as well as fix some audio issue some have been having.
  • Several hundred new voice lines for the gladiators, as well as other character and AIimprovements (they now look around at interesting stuff, cool).
  • New VO for the emperor.
  • Polish to most existing bosses.
  • Reworked the Grapple Caestus.
  • Entirely new Cell environment, with many unlockables.
  • More narrative content than anyone could realistically have expected given the nature of the game.
  • One of the most unnecessarily complicated carved graffiti decal systems ever.
  • Improved seagulls.

DO YOU LIKE CONTENT?
If you’ve been sleeping under a rock, you may have missed BE KIROOD and superstarproducer Jaybooty’s new Rap EP, TAVUES ES ROKIBE. It’s available on all major platforms.

We also released a devlog showing some of the making of this update, which you can find here:

A little update on our next update

Hi everyone,

It's been quite a while since you've heard from us so we thought it's about time we give you guys an update - with some good and bad news.

First the bad news. Unfortunately GORN will not be getting an update this year.

The good news is that the next update is not too far away. This update is going to be a bit different than usual - we're restructuring a few of the systems in the game and adding some flavour to the world. The nature of this update means that it takes a fair bit more work to reach a point where we can get meaningful feedback from people, hence why this past update has been developed a bit more in secret than usual. If you are curious what it this update is all about, or would prefer some kind of video evidence that we are in fact still working on the game, we made a devlog for you!

We'd also just like to say a special thanks to everyone who supported us this year and who has contributed to making the development of GORN the awesome journey that it has. We have some cool surprises (including the much requested EP from BE KIROOD, TAVUES ES ROKIBE) coming up in 2019 so stay tuned!

About This Game

GORN is a ludicrously violent VR gladiator simulator, made by Free Lives, the developers of Broforce and Genital Jousting. Featuring a unique, fully physics driven combat engine, GORN combatants will be able to creatively execute their most violent gladiatorial fantasies in virtual reality. Savagely strike down an infinite supply of poorly-animated opponents with all manner of weapons – from swords, maces, and bows to nunchuks, throwing knives, massive two-handed warhammers or even your blood-soaked bare hands.
