♪ There's a great big round balloon... But what are you really drawing? An online party game for 2–4 players built on Japanese draw-along songs. Everyone follows the same song without knowing the subject, then every drawing replays stroke by stroke to show who went astray, and where.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“There's almost no precedent for a game built around draw-along songs, even in Japan, and for most English-speaking players the whole idea is brand new.
That's why learning from the people who play it matters so much to us.

What makes Drawaoke fun is how drawings of the same song end up going in different directions.
Whether a song works, and whether a way of playing works, only becomes clear once a room fills up with real players.

During Early Access, there are three things we want to figure out together with you:
- which songs to keep, and which to rebuild
- which new way to play to add next (we have candidates, but nothing is decided yet)
- which way of playing should become the standard for first-timers

Songs that a lot of you find unfair will be actively reworked.
And when a song gets people going because they drew it in ways we never expected, we'll carry what made it work over to other songs.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We haven't set a number of months. Drawaoke will leave Early Access once both of these are true:
- the song count reaches our target (50 at launch, aiming for 100 or more)
- we've finished adding the new ways to play and musical styles chosen during Early Access

Progress may run faster or slower than expected, so our promise is these conditions, not a date.
Until then, we'll keep updating the game and adding new songs.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We're aiming for 100 or more songs. Not just a bigger number, but a lineup chosen based on how players respond.

We also plan to add new ways to play and new musical styles.
For new ways to play, we're working through a number of ideas. For example: everyone teaming up to build one big themed picture, hunting for the one "impostor" who's the only player who knows the subject, or splitting into teams of two to compete.
We're experimenting with how to bring out what makes draw-along songs fun, and we keep looking for new ideas beyond these.
For musical styles, we're prototyping genres such as rock, rap, ballads and swing, and working out how each one fits the draw-along format.
We're also still exploring other genres that could work as draw-along songs.
What we add will be decided by your feedback during Early Access and by how the game is actually played.

Songs where we find a better way to express them, and songs that turn out too hard, will be reworked or replaced.

Your Draw-Along Collection and the rounds you've saved to your Album during Early Access carry over to the full version.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“All the core features are in, including online matches with players you don't know.

- 50 draw-along songs
- 2 musical styles (Nursery, Synth)
- 3 modes (Classic, Whatsit, Guess-Off)
- Private rooms to play with friends
- Online matches with other players through "Play with someone"
- Draw-Along Collection, Album, Gallery
- English and Japanese (songs are sung in each language)

That said, the song count is only half of what we're aiming for in the full version.
Controllers are not supported (play with a mouse or pen tablet).”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to raise the price slightly when the game leaves Early Access, so Early Access is the more affordable time to buy.
If you buy during Early Access, you'll get the full version at no extra cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“There are three places to tell us what you think.

In-game ratings and feedback
Rate each song "Liked it" or "Hmm."
Choosing "Hmm" also opens a box for a quick note on what bothered you. (You can close it without writing anything. Your rating still gets sent.)
Your settings and the song name are sent along with it, so we know exactly which song, played which way, the feedback is about.
This system is already running, and we're using it to make decisions during playtesting.

Steam Community Hub and discussions

X (@2P_START)
Update announcements, plus conversations about which songs to make next.

Here's how we put your feedback to use:
- Low-rated songs get their drawings or lyrics fixed
- Songs that a lot of players find too hard will either be moved to the higher difficulty settings or have the song itself reworked
- New subjects are picked with priority from your requests
- New musical styles and ways to play are built in order of demand

Bug fixes and small song adjustments happen on an ongoing basis.
New songs are added through updates as each one is finished.
Bigger updates, like new ways to play, come out as each one is finished, too.
Every update comes with patch notes explaining which feedback we acted on and how.”

About This Game

What's a draw-along song?

In Japan, kids grow up with ekaki-uta, or "draw-along songs." You sing along, and each line tells you what to draw: a circle here, a couple of lines there. Keep going to the end, and your scribbles turn into a picture.

Kids usually know the song, and the answer, by heart. In Drawaoke, every song is brand new, the subject stays hidden until the very last line, and everyone draws at the same time. It stops being a kids' game. It becomes a puzzle.

The song won't tell you where, or what (not until the last line)

Everyone hears the same draw-along song and draws at the same time. But the song won't name the subject until its very last line.

The song won't say "now draw the hand." All you get are lines like these:

♪ There's a great big round balloon that's floating gently to the sky—

♪ And a little dancing ribbon hangs below and sways to and fro.

The balloon is easy enough. Put it in the middle. But the ribbon? Below where, exactly? What shape? How long?

Every line splits the room a little further, and by the end, everyone has drawn something completely different.

The reveal: every drawing, replayed to the song

When the song ends, everyone's drawings line up next to the answer, drawn by Coach Sketch, the game's resident art teacher.

Then the song plays back and every drawing is redrawn at once, stroke by stroke, in time with the music.

Which line was it? Who drifted off, and which way?

Every fork in the road you couldn't see while drawing is right there on screen.

As the replay rolls, vote "Nailed it" for drawings that impress you, and "Chaos" for the ones that leave you asking how on earth that happened.

At the results, the drawing with the most "Nailed it" votes wins Masterpiece, and the one with the most "Chaos" votes takes the Chaos Award.

Nail it or wreck it. Either way, you're the star.

The more you play, the better you read the songs

A few songs in, you'll catch yourself thinking, "That phrase came up twice. Hands, maybe? Or feet?"

It's less a test of drawing skill and more a puzzle to crack.

Three modes

Classic

Everyone hears the same song and draws together.

Whatsit

The answer is hidden in the song and sung as "you-know-what." Once you're done drawing, guess what you actually drew.

Guess-Off

One player is the guesser, watching everyone else draw and trying to name the subject. The faster the guess, the more points.

Give a "Thanks!" to the drawing that gave the best clue. Everyone takes a turn as the guesser.

Set the pace and the difficulty

Two ways to move through a song: Echo, with an instrumental break after every line so you have time to draw, and Live, which never stops.

Two musical styles: Nursery, the classic sing-song style, and Synth, a punchier electronic style. Different tempos mean different difficulty.

In the room settings, choose how tough the songs get: Easy-going, Meaty, or Merciless.

Songs that are almost impossible to draw on a first listen carry a "SUPER HARD!" sticker.

Getting together

Invite friends with a room code.

Pick "Play with someone" to jump straight into a game with other players.

Short on people? Bots join in to keep the party going.

Every round, kept and ready to share

Draw-Along Collection

Every song you come across gets added here. You can practice on your own with Coach Sketch's drawing as your guide.

Songs you haven't met yet come up first, so there's always something new.

Album

Rounds are saved with full replays (the last 10 automatically, plus any you choose to keep).

Watch the reveal again, or export it as a video (MP4), GIF, or image (PNG).

Gallery

Pin your favorites to the cork board.

Every song, written and sung in English

Almost every child in Japan grows up singing draw-along songs.

Chances are you've never heard of one. There isn't even a standard English name for them.

So we didn't just translate the menus. Every song was written in English and sung in English.

Even in Japan, we couldn't find another game that turns draw-along songs into a contest where several people draw at once and go head to head in the reveal.

Change "Where to look for rooms" in the settings, and you might even end up in a room with players from Japan. Each of you hears the songs in your own language.

What's in Early Access

  • 50 draw-along songs (more coming during Early Access)
  • 2 musical styles (Nursery, Synth)
  • 3 modes (Classic, Whatsit, Guess-Off)
  • Draw-Along Collection, Album (save and export replays), Gallery
  • Online play for 2–4 players
  • English and Japanese (on-screen text and songs follow your Steam language setting)
  • Play with a mouse or pen tablet (controllers are not supported)

Streaming and videos

Stream it, make videos of it, monetize them. It's all fine.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

This game uses generative AI in the following ways.
All of this content was created ahead of time — nothing is generated by AI while the game is running.

- Draw-along song lyrics — generative AI produces the first drafts, and the developer reviews and hand-picks every song
- The stroke order of each model drawing (its line-coordinate data) — same as above
- Singing voices — synthesized with VOICEVOX (Shikoku Metan / Namine Ritsu) and Synthesizer V (Sheena 2, for the English songs), and shipped as pre-rendered audio files

[What we don't do]
- No image-generation AI is used. Every model drawing is rendered as lines from coordinate data
- The game never connects to online AI services during play (the only network traffic is for online matches)
