About This Game

The wind is real. The sea wants to sink you. The cargo won't pay for itself.

Leeway is a physics-first sailing game set in a procedurally generated age-of-sail archipelago. Every wind shift, every wave and every cannon shot is simulated. There are no canned animations, no invisible walls - just you, the breeze, and the consequences.

MERCHANT

Buy goods cheap at one island, sell them dear at another. But a fat hold sits low in the water, and the pirates know it. Use the wind, the weather and your wits to reach port before they do.
  • Real sail physics: trim your main and jib to the groove, or go soft and lose ground
  • A living economy: prices shift with supply, weather and what the harbourmaster is missing
  • Cargo is weight: a full hold changes how she sails, how deep she sits, and when she sinks
  • Evade, outrun, signal the navy, dump a decoy - but never fire back. Merchants don't carry guns

PIRATE

You carry guns. Board prizes to steal cargo without sinking them, because a sunken ship pays nothing. Build heat, spend gold at the black market, and don't let the revenue cutter run you down.
  • Cannons that fire round shot, chain and grape - each cuts a different way
  • Subdue, don't sink: overwhelm the prize's crew so you can board and take her cargo
  • Five black-flag hulls from the nimble Corsair sloop to the three-masted Leviathan flagship
  • Square-rigged ships sail like square-rigged ships: they fly off the wind and struggle to windward

LEEWAY TOGETHER (BETA)

Play both roles against each other in peer-to-peer multiplayer. The merchant runs a real campaign; the pirate hunts them down with the same economy and weather. A host-authoritative Reaving mode pits one hunter against a convoy of haulers racing to bank a shared purse before he breaks them.

THE SEA

  • A procedurally placed archipelago that changes every new campaign
  • Storm cells you can see from a distance and try to avoid - or sail straight into
  • Day-night cycle driven by elapsed sailing time, not wall clock
  • Rain, fog, squalls, swells, and a barometer that tells you what is coming

OTHER THINGS WORTH KNOWING

  • Voice chat over WebRTC for crews (proximity-faded for strangers, always-on for crew)
  • Gamepad support with remappable controls
  • Three quality presets, so it scales down to weaker GPUs

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Some content was created with the assistance of generative AI tools: 2D store and
marketing art (library capsule and library hero), the game's localization into
non-English languages, and portions of in-game flavour text. All localization was
reviewed before shipping. All in-game visuals are generated procedurally at runtime
from code, all sound effects are synthesised at runtime, and all music is
human-composed and licensed under CC BY 4.0. The game performs no AI generation at
runtime and connects to no external AI service.
