What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I plan to continue developing Temporarium throughout Early Access based on player feedback, suggestions, and my own ideas as development progresses. New species, mechanics, decorations, and features will be added over time, while existing systems may be adjusted, expanded, or redesigned as I learn what makes the experience more enjoyable.

Temporarium is a very personal project, and Early Access gives me the opportunity to build it alongside the community. I want players to help shape the experience, whether that's through suggesting new creatures, requesting quality-of-life improvements, or sharing ideas for future content.

As development continues, I expect portions of the game to change significantly. My goal is to use Early Access as a way to refine the experience, expand the game's scope thoughtfully and without much hassle to the player.

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Temporarium will remain in Early Access until I feel it has reached its full potential. As a solo developer, I don't want to set an artificial deadline and then rush features or compromise on quality.

My focus is on continuing to add content, improve existing systems, and listen to community feedback throughout development. There are still many species, mechanics, and ideas I'd like to explore, and I expect the game to grow considerably over time.

I am aiming to have this game done sometime in early 2027!

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of Temporarium is planned to include additional species, decorations, plants, and aquarium customization options beyond what is available during Early Access. I also hope to introduce more animations, visual improvements, and other features as development continues.

Because development is heavily influenced by community feedback and new ideas that arise during production, the exact scope of the full release may change over time. My goal is for the final version to feel richer, more alive, and offer many more ways for players to create and enjoy their creations and creatures.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version contains the core foundation of Temporarium. The baseline systems are in place, allowing players to build aquariums, raise creatures, manage water conditions, and experience the game's central gameplay loop.

While the current version is fully playable, much of Temporarium's potential still lies ahead. Additional species, decorations, plants, animations, mechanics, and quality-of-life improvements are planned throughout Early Access. My goal is to continue expanding and refining the experience until it feels complete.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No. I do not currently plan to change the price of Temporarium when it leaves Early Access.

I want players who choose to support the game early to know exactly what they're getting without feeling pressured by future price increases. If that decision ever changes, I will communicate it clearly to the community well in advance.

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I intend to listen closely to player feedback throughout Early Access. Community suggestions, bug reports, and quality-of-life requests will help shape the direction of development and influence future updates.

As a solo developer, I can't promise that every suggestion will make it into the game, but I want Temporarium to grow alongside the people who enjoy it. Early Access is an opportunity for players to share their experiences and help me understand what parts of the game resonate most.

At the end of the day, Temporarium is a very personal project, and I hope to build a small, welcoming community around a shared appreciation for often-overlooked unique creatures.

Explore the world of building aquariums for incredibly tenacious yet temporary creatures. Choose and unlock a variety of substrates, backgrounds, plants, and other decor to customize the tank. Take care to keep track of water conditions, mixing regular aquarium tank conditions and conditions specified for each critter to create a thriving ecosystem suitable for younglings and adults alike.

What kind of animals live in the Temporarium? Vernal ponds in the wild can host many creatures, but with the freedom of this tank, you can combine many cohabiting freshwater critters! Raise Triops, fairy shrimp, clam shrimp, water fleas, and even mystery snails along with unique variants of species. Each one has its own life cycle stages, behaviors, eggs, and quirks.

About Development

This game was created over two years during my recovery from a severe brain injury following a car accident while I was riding my bike. Building these tiny living worlds became part of my recovery and gave me something to look forward to every day.

I've been raising Triops on and off for more than 20 years, and creating this game has been a deeply personal journey. In many ways, it reflects a lifelong fascination of mine that has been cultivated over these two decades.

All art, assets, characters, worldbuilding, and game design are my own. I used Codex for coding support during development; however, every creature, sprite sheet, art piece, song track, and creative decision in this world comes directly from me.

“Being temporary doesn't make something matter any less, because the point isn't for how long; the point is that it happened.” - Robyn Schneider, Extraordinary Means
