About This Game

Fly. Race. Mind the shark.

Whisperthorn is a multiplayer flying game for witches, set in a voxel world. Gather in the hall with up to 20 players, then ride through a series of rites: race through rings, shoot open sealed rune gates, deliver potions without spilling, or duel with fire for your familiars.

Speed is a skill

There is no boost button. Speed comes from how you fly, as it does in a real aeroplane.

• Dive to build speed, climb and you spend it.
  
• Wide, clean turns keep your momentum. Hard turns bleed it away.
  
• Hold a top speed and it fades only slowly, so a fast line stays fast.
  
• Hit the brake to cut into a corner, then dive to win the speed back.

Easy to start, deep to master

Fly with W, A, S, D and the mouse. When you want more, hold Shift for acro flight.

• Barrel roll: tap Shift with A or D for a clean roll on a straight line.
  
• Acro mode: hold Shift and A/D rolls the broom, with no turning and the attitude held, so you can fly inverted or on a knife-edge.
  
• Loops: hold Shift and pull back to go over the top. The camera follows you all the way round.
  
• Advanced moves: Immelmann turns, split-S, double and triple rolls.
  
• Every trick is named on screen, scores bonus points, makes your broom flare and gives you a small burst of speed.

A world that bites back

• Sharks cruise under the waves and leap out at you. If one catches you with its head out of the water, it drags you under.
  
• Birds fly alone and dive-bomb you if you get close.
  
• Rare, giant dragons sleep in their lairs. Come near one and it will hunt you, and its fire will knock you out in a single breath. Run.
  
• Stone golems, spirit stags in the blossom groves, schools of fish, weather and a full day and night cycle.

Magic that looks like magic

Aim with the mouse and your spells fly to the cursor: comet-tailed bolts, layered explosions and fire salvos, with one glowing gauge for both health and mana.

Race together, or against the clock

• Up to 20 players in a Steam lobby, with a LAN fallback.
  
• Rival witches flown by the computer, from gentle to fierce, so a lobby is never empty.
  
• Time trial: fly the same course against your own best, with F1-style sector colours.
  
• Rites: Ring Run, Potion Run, Rune Gates, Lantern Gathering and the Familiar Duel inside a closing storm.
  
• Steam achievements, some of which make fun of your friends.

Music

An original soundtrack: a fast electronic theme for the race, songs in the Phrygian and Mixolydian modes, and a calm Lydian piece for the hall.
