What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“VIVID offers a completely new digital framework for simulating plant growth in a playful way. Because of this novelty, VIVID stands to benefit greatly from early feedback from the gaming community. To validate our core systems, it therefore makes sense to give our target audiences early access.
Since VIVID is also about promoting general interest in environmental education, we need to explore the preferences and core interests of cozy and simulation gamers and incorporate them into our design.
At the same time, Early Access provides us with some initial financial support while we pursue other options to create a solid foundation for the game’s success.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“By the time Early Access begins, we will have already spent 4 months on the proof of concept and 8 months on the prototype. We are planning for a flexible Early Access period of 6–12 months, which means the 1.0 release could be in March 2027 or September 2027.
Developing such an innovative game can only be done iteratively, so we need to allow for some flexibility in the timeline.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“In the full version, we plan to include a total of three different plants and biomes. All plants will feature unique abilities and skilltrees.
We also intend to refine the balance between plants, biomes, events, and seasons leading up to release to provide the best possible gaming experience. We are planning various DLC's featuring more biomes and plants for the future.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“For the Early Access launch, we have the following plans:
• The plant selection will be limited to dandelions and the “Mixed Forest” biome.
• Players collect the main currency, “Metabolism Points,” and must either save them for the long term or use them in the short term to prepare for and withstand random events.
• The goal of the game is to produce a seed. This can be used for a new playthrough. The game ends when the plant dies due to a lack of water, nutrients, sunlight, or failure to reproduce.
• Random events can significantly affect the plant’s vitality and alter the biome’s resource availability. The player determines the plant’s metabolism in response to these events.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, the price of our game will vary during and after the Early Access phase. For Early Access, we plan to offer a low introductory price to reward players for their valuable time and feedback during the development phase. Once the game reaches version 1.0, we will adjust the price of the full version to reflect standard market rates.
This tiered pricing also reflects our ongoing efforts to secure suitable publishers and funding partners to continue supporting our pilot project – which offers social and environmental benefits – in a sustainable manner and to facilitate long-term access to the game.
We greatly appreciate the community’s support during this Early Access phase and hope that many more players will join us on this journey.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Through direct surveys on our Discord, developer diaries, regular updates on development, and direct communication with our players via the Steam Community. This also includes reviewing and addressing requests, questions, ideas, suggestions, and other feedback from players.”

About This Game

Experience the life of a plant in a calm, atmospheric exploration game about growth, responsibility, and the long-term impact of humans' actions on our environment.

Set in a living, reactive world shaped by procedural systems, VIVID invites you to slow down. Observe how plants grow, how ecosystems evolve, and how even small decisions can leave lasting traces. Ecological responsibility and long-term consequences are central themes – mechanically and narratively.

DIVIDER: Play at your own pace!

There is no rush, no constant pressure – only space for curiosity, reflection and meaningful interaction with nature. You can pause at any time to take well considered decisions – or just to enjoy the scenery. But be careful, every action is permanent, as there is no way to turn back time.

DIVIDER: Adjust your metabolism!

Use metabolism points to refine your resource intake & production in relation to the selected biome. Each environment offers unique challenges to overcome and varying resource availabilities to adjust to – a diverse and mixed forest differs a lot from a smog-ridden metropolitan city.

DIVIDER: Specialize yourself!

Decide wisely on which paths to specialize yourself in. Every plant comes with a different skill tree resembling it’s unique strengths & qualities in real nature. Enhance your abilities and unlock skills on multiple paths like water-, and resource-intake, photosynthesis or producing defensive pesticides.

DIVIDER: React immediately!

Random events demand immediate action through the skills you unlock. Correct use and good timing will be key to your survival. The events you come across can be either naturally occurring, like rain, drought and insects – or might be caused by human influence.
